To what avail is democracy for Pakistan; the defunct pilferers and plunderers are back in seats for yet another scoop?

Absolutely right that this is now end of Musharaf who is one of the great sick and all time dead person
His planned rigging are useless due to public anti sentiments against Musharaf regime who make this country one of the worst on the world map
Musharaf for the sake of power utilized Mullah and warned the world that the extremist are rising and a danger for the country sake where they controlled the nuke
But now that card is come to an end and the world and esp the US now to with draw the blind support and in case of contrary the whole public sentiments will goes totally anti US
This is very danger for the world as the secular public become extremist due to the US blind support for the Musharaf
Now this is time for US to get support of the Pakistani people to forced Musharaf out

In case the US insist support for Musharaf then almost all the masses of the country Pakistan will anti US

This anti US sentiments may creat an alarming situations in the country which is not in favour of the world

Now the US must to with draw support of Musharaf other wise the possibility of secular minded people's support and finance the terrorist will be observed

The US must to think of the people of Pakistan instead of Musharaf

First of all kudos to President Musharraf for holding, free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections in Pakistan. He has kept his promise, knowing that the party that supported him for the past few years would lose, President Musharraf still held one of Pakistan's history's most credible elections.
It's just a shame that Pakistani people have not learned from their past experience that the two front runners the two leaders in the assemblies are the same two figures who had pushed Pakistan to the brink of bankcruptcy.
I think Democracy is a the most wonderful form of government, but if the ruling parties and leadership pool is filled with corrupt individuals and they keep coming up year after year then I feel perhaps President Musharraf when he had initially taken over should have overhauled the systems in such a way that anybody. good or bad whoever had ever been elected and all those in their immediate family should have been disqualified for life.
What I wanted to see from these elections were new faces people with no baggage of the past people with new and sincere ideads. I think Pakistan is a too poor of a nation to experiment with democracy like this, as it will take years and years for the weed out process to complete.

Newsweek, or more accurately PropagandaWeek: I thought I was going to be reading an article, not an anti-Musharraf propaganda piece. If you're going to write a propaganda piece, try to be a little subtler next time. Or, here's a thought, actually live up to your purported name and just report the news!

Obviously, the Deibold machines either didn't get delivered to Mush on time or King Jorge Boosh didn't have them rigged properly. Just another example of government incompetence.
However, the rigged Deibold machines are working well here in the U.S. I mean nobody wants McPain in office - so there is your testimony to highly effective vote fraud teams. CAN DO! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! CARRY ON! and CHEERIO! to our Emperor in Command.

George Bush and the republicans strike again!

I don't see how this is a repudiation of BUSH since the Bush administration in fact supported the return of Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan and pushed for these elections throughout your "state of emergency."

Congrates to all Pakistanis to humiliate the people who have been doing so to them for the past 8 years. This is a clear verdict of Pakistanis against Musharaf and US policies, in fact BUSH. There are some reservations though in the form of Mr Zardari, who in my opinion is still no worthy of being the leader of Pakistanis, as there are proven charges against him in Swiss court. But having said all this PPPP and PML-N must not waste this last chance to uplift the down nation by their sheer sincerity and commitment to the nation who have brought them into light once again being beaten twice by each party. This is a chance for both parties to undo their past mistakes. We are welcoming both of them just to rejoice the downfall of Chaudhry brothers and Musharaf and CO. Now Musharaf and US should call it quits to meddle the Pakistani matters and both BUSH and MUSHARAF should console and repent together after resigning in US.

People of Pakistan have spoken. The dictator who overthrew an elected govt , imposed emergency , fired judjes and gaged media is in a dead end street. He will not resign gracefully and will have to be booted out . It is a lessons for the generals. People of Pakistan will not allow any general to derail the democracy. On the brighter side Musharraf can leave with peace and luxury in Turkey or Boston. Your time is up Musharraf.

The people of Pakistan made a smart and decisive decision to democratically overthrow a leader who instilled fear in its citizens and ignored the rule of law in order to keep himself in power. Musharraf should resign to save what's left of his dignity.

Musharraf must take both Zardari and Sharif into custody and charge them both with corruption as both of them had already been proven so. This is the time now to take on both of them. Then Musharraf must go into exile and Kayani be the next dictator. Pakistan does not need democracy if their leaders ar known criminals who have plundererd Pakistan of its wealth. Although the election results showed otherwise it is still bad for the people who are mostly naive and ignorant.

The two mainstream political parties have ruled Pakistan twice before and always failed to deliver. Not only that, the leaders of these two parties are absolutely corrupt, self seekers at the cost of national interests, and inefficient . It is not a good omen for Pakistan that these parties are again seeming to come to power. I wish President Musharraf tackles these elements with yet stronger hands even if he has to dismiss these asseblies in the larger interest of the nation. Pakistan does not need a 'sham democracy' at all if it has to survive as a nation of honour & pride.

The two parties symbolise corruption, bungling, self seeking at the cost of national interests. It is a bad omen for Pakistan & Pakistanis in general that these hated politicians seem to be winning the elections. I hope & pray Musharraf must take action to dissolve the assemblies in order to save Pakistan from this kind of sham democracy in Pakistan.
