Obama proved persuasive enough that the bill passed both houses of the legislature, the Senate by an incredible 35 to 0. Then he talked Blagojevich into signing the bill, making Illinois the first state to require such videotaping.

He played a major role in passing many other bills, including the state's first earned-income tax credit to help the working poor and the first ethics and campaign finance law in 25 years (a law a Post story said made Illinois "one of the best in the nation on campaign finance disclosure"). Obama's commitment to ethics continued in the U.S. Senate, where he co-authored the new lobbying reform law that, among its hard-to-sell provisions, requires lawmakers to disclose the names of lobbyists who "bundle" contributions for them.

Taken together, these accomplishments demonstrate that Obama has what Dillard, the Republican state senator, calls a "unique" ability "to deal with extremely complex issues, to reach across the aisle and to deal with diverse people." In other words, Obama's campaign claim that he can persuade us to rise above what divides us is not just rhetoric.

Avian flu: Obama was one of the first Senators to speak out on avian flu, back in the spring of 2005, when it was a quintessentially wonky issue, not the subject of breathless news reports. There's a list of Democratic efforts on avian flu here; Obama shows up early and often. He has sponsored legislation, including what I think is the first bill dedicated to pandemic flu preparedness. It's a good bill, providing not just for vaccine research and antiviral stockpiles, but for the kinds of state and local planning and preparedness that will be crucial if a pandemic occurs. (I was also very interested to note that it requires the Secretary of HHS to contract with the Institute of Medicine for a study of "the legal, ethical, and social implications of, with respect to pandemic influenza". This is actually very important, and not everyone would have thought of it.)

Mr. Obama sure sounds like "osama" he also practices the muslm faith and it the most un patriotic person I have seen. One: He wont play our national anthom he plays another countries; Two: He wont place he hand over his heart when our national anthom does play; SO do we really want OSAMA running our country?? All this "EXPERIENCE" has America in the state of it is now......Bush's father had experience being President and see what he passed down. The Clinton years were so overshadowed by his scandals and partisan fighting that he didn't get as much done and he could have. All this "experience has been passed down to my generation and we are pretty much hated by many countries.....I say thanks but no thanks to experience. I have learned in my lifetime that white people only see things one way and that one way is their way. It is pointless to try to have a civilized conversation with them. Considering his background, I'm sure he, like all of the other Presidents, will have knowledgeable people at his disposal to ensure that the decisions that are made will be the right ones for America. Uh, yeah, he is beating her, and pretty bad! The delegates are not just some round estimate that the news stations just throw up on the screen to give us a "some where in the neighborhood" tally. Also, some of McCain's supporters are going to swing over to Barack's campaign as well just because of the mere fact that some people feel that a woman should not be president. Secondly, Barack is not the same ol' politician-he won't even bite on the negatives that McCain and Clinton are throwing at him, or his wife. While Clinton may have a great deal of experience in foreign policy, Barack will be surrounded by people who know the system, and people who are on his staff, so yes, of course they will get paid.

I have been reading the comments being posted here today. I must say that there seems to be a lot of hate and prejudice being batted around. It seems that all the bashing going on in politics is definately being carried on here. It seems to me that it doesn't matter who gets to sit in the BIG chair, our country is in a very bad place. It doesn't matter which side of the fence you are on, both sides have cvery serious issues. It doesn't matter who wins, we are all going to loose. We as a country are fighting each other. We are not united in anything. Each side just has to be absolutely right and the other has to be absolutely wrong. It doesn't work that way. Everyone is right and everyone is wrong part of the time.

So, we will bring our families home from over "there" because we feel we are in a war that we don't belong.in I wish that were true. "They" brought that war here first. What were we supposed to do, just sit back and say they didn't really mean it? Let them continue to bring the war here? So, we will bring them all home. Now we will be able to loose even more of our loved ones. It could be here that is getting blown to bits. It could be our babies that we see on the news blown to bits. I don't think it is right that anyones babies be murdered. I really don't want that war to come here again. If it does they have already won. We can't unite as a nation, how are we going to defeat them?

It shouldn't matter what color we are, what we choose to call ourselves to identify our heritage. We are supposed to all be "Americans". One Nation Under God, With Liberty and Justice For "ALL".

You only look at one side of voting statistics. You complain about black people voting for Obama but don't care about white people voting for Clinton,. The point is that there are two sides to every story.

mr.obama has done absolutely nothing to garner the enthusiam that this country seems to be crowning him with, it is almost perplexing to try and figure out what this man is doing to attract the masses as he has, and the only conclusion is that carl rove has his finger in the pot, and is sending the masses in droves to put this figure on a pedestal as he did with george w., and into the drivers seat to be manupilated like a puppet as they did with georgie for eight years, and this country has seen what that has given us, "the house is not divided, it is falling down" not with blue vs red, but with hate, we will indeed bury ourselves because of it, as khrushev, former pm of russia stated would happen, it is finally happening, turn your flag upside down

The masses are so hypnotized by the preaching abilities of Mr Obama they have lost the ability to understand the consequences of not sending a nominee that can stand tall over a Rebublican. He is actually sweeping them of there feet like the best arena church leader. He uses church methods to frenzy voters who will be left mightily cold if he gets elected. His cabinet will be so mired in commitees that nothing will get done.
