How about some REAL CHANGE?
VOTE for RON PAUL!
Keep your coins, I want REAL CHANGE!
Your views of "Sens. Hillary Clinton and John McCain, I feel that I'm dealing are known quantities. They've been in the public arena for years; their views, values and temperaments have received enormous scrutiny" Is exactly what Americans are Tired of, we want and demand a change, if you didn't get the message in the 2006 Congressional and Senatorial Elections, maybe you'll get it this November. WE NEED and DEMAND CHANGE. OBAMA for AMERICA!
you think he will be concerned with the white man once in office? HA?! LOOK AT ANY BLACK MAYOR,SEE WHIO THEY HIRE ONCE IN OFFICE! i for one would never vote in a minority!
I have wondered too if Obama as Emporer will wear no clothes. He very well may - but people are willing to roll the dice in order to be inspired. Inspiration is not an emotion that our country has gotten much from our leaders of late. I guess we can always hope that Obama - if he wins - will find some suitable clothes to try on once he's in the White House.
I'm old enough (61) to know that politicians will say a lot of things to get elected. What I look for beyond stump rhetoric is character, tone and direction. Sen. Obama can speak (ah, to hear the word "nuclear" pronounced correctly!) and inspire -- which is what I believe will be required to get us through some darker days ahead. His tone is one of stripping old labels and ridding our habit of demonizing what we don't completely understand. The direction he is pointing toward is one that I wholeheartedly endorse. He may fall short in areas, he may not have all the answers, but I'll take a chance that his heart and intellect are in the right place and I'll vote for him -- despite stump speech baloney. First we get him elected ...
If Obama gets the nomination, get ready for ahuge case of buyers remorse. The Emporer has no clothes!
Let's be real: What can you say about a Presidental candidate that so far hasn't taken a dime from PACs and special interests? That promises to work with other side to set up biparitsan solutions? That who would actually talk with people who represent our greatest enemies? About someone who's fairly "clean" thoughout his/her political career? I say we should give him/her a chance unless we find someone who shows a record of doing the above. Sadly, that's not what Clinton has done and though McCain has done a little better, he's not exactly a "clean" politician either.
I personally think this is the most important sentence of the entire article: "As a journalist, I harbor serious doubt about each of the most likely nominees." While the article attacks Obama's policy, the author cannot offer any one better, nor can the current political system. The media and funding sources have their "darlings" picked out before the voters even get the chance to have fair and equal coverage for all candidates. Obama, Clinton, and McCain are more alike than different. Our political system has been turned into an episode of American Idol where the judges pick out their favorites well before the show airs, and you, as the viewer, have to pcik the best out of a lot of horrible choices.
All Candidates make promises, proposals, etc knowing that only congress has the power to allocate the funds or enact the laws to make these promises, proposals, or even high ideals come to the light of day. Given this, ALL of these potential Presidents are not telling the whole truth. The President's power is directly propotional to his or her abilty to build concenses among the factions within and outside of congress to moves these ideas forward. This is what we hoped for in 2000 by electing the "compationate conservative" and for a short time {previous to 9/11} we had this. {Rember Hydorgen powered cars in 10 years, massive aid to Africa to combat AIDS, the bi-partison No child left behind, brainchild of Ted Kennedy. Mr Bush mishandeled his popularity after 9/11 and lost site of what he was elected to do. Clinton and McCain give us more of the same deadlock as thier Washington ties will not allow them to rebuild goodwill among opponets. Obama holds the promise of action and abilty to compromise to move this government out of 20 years of malaise. At this point doing something, providing leadership, is more important than any proposal. Getting something done is better than getting nothing done ..
Stick to your guns, Latinos! Go for Hillary! Barack will be just a little kid standing with McCain, and I want the Democrats to win! So - you go change this power of momentum - by creating your own!
I just think its funny that in a world of political delusions that we cannot deny, consumes all politics on every level ,
You hold the brother more accountable.
Ha
I`m really grateful for the article; so eloquent put into words, exactly how I feel about Obama, but don`t know how to express - or get it out to the people. There`s little time left to do anything about what`s going on - people; wake up! I`m counting on the latinos in the next states!
It`s now "politically correct" to attack and label Hillary these days, it seems....while very politically incorrect to do so with Obama. He has really succeeded (with the help of "The Secret spiritual Oprah"), in putting himself out there, as the "higher ground" - clean, nice, success story; who wouldn`t want to relate to, and identify with that? Any "attacks" - false or true, realistic or not - on Obama, seems to enrage "the followers"; it`s almost an attack on them, having identified with the symbolism Obama has managed to create for himself! Especially if you`re a black man, well educated men of all races, teenagers with their dreams and hopes for life....why support "old, hard working, "know her already" Hillary? She`s become "the bad" - well done, Obama campaign! But; who will (and have) work for you, at the end of the day?
Here`s a shocker; EVERYBODY has a shadow! Every human being, even Barack Obama - despite the white lights & halo shining on his web site. You just don`t know him yet. Not to say he`s "bad" - but, as all humans, he has dark and light sides.
And I`m wondering; is he strong enough? He`s showing quite some feminine aspects of himself - successfully so, while Hillary gets in trouble as a woman for "being tough" (and for crying, if she does so...just can`t win with some, can she?). If he is as nice, buddie-like and the guy next door - or the colleague you`d have a chat by the copy machine with, sipping on coffee from a plastic cup - then is he tough enough to be President of the United States? If he is....then that is not what he portraits himself to be, and so he is not completely truthful.
But - seems to be, that it is Michelle that wears the pants in the house (will she run in 8 years?) - and, quote from the Larry King show; Larry asked her whether Barack was a man that could change? She said, that she changes him every day! So.....US president, with too much elastic?
Which, by the way.....some argue that he is not; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTz7nojEC80. If this video is true (and this guy seems to be, in contrast to some other videos on the same subject...) - I rest my case. If this is not true, it is a horrible thing to do.
Let´s see if Obama has learnt from the mistakes of Bill....just say it as it is...as soon as possible.
Here's something I'm not understanding dont all candidates make promises that they dont keep. Read my lips no new taxes come to my mind. Do political pundits seriously think that the American people are so stupid that they think that Obama is going to successfully do everything he said he would? Obama himself has said that he has seen good legislaton die. He has had some successes but he has also had failures. These political reporters are the ones who are being bias. What they've done is hold Obama to a higher standards than they do his opponents. Obama's words dont come from up above anymore than Hillary's does. So why should we expect Obama to have complete success when he dont have the same conditions for Hillary. Now you can argue that Obama is running on changing things so he should be held to those change standards more than the other candidates. But Obama has done things that has facilitated changes compared to some of the other candidates. He has sponsored an ethics bill that changes the way Washington does business. His point is if you dont get the money out of Washington it will be more of the same. And he has worked towards that goal by refusing to take lobbyist money. Money is what is corrupting Washington and what he says is that he can't be bought. Seems to me if you are going to judge him on whether he will successfully change Washington you have to look at what he has done prior to his candidacy that will facilitate that change.
Funny, how there are very little comments on this and thus far the comments posted have nothing to do with the article.
I, personally, would like to thank the journalist for giving us detailed insight. I am certain that once Obama gets the nomination there will be MAJOR news coverage to show exactly what has been said over and over---all talk, hopeful ideas but no substance.
This article reflects beautifully my own opinion of Obama. I am just afraid of the mentallity of so many people to be on the 'winning side' rather than being informed about the issues and what can , or cannot, be done, about them, and why.
one question what dose hillary have she can not and will notunite this country ifor know obama cant do any worse than bush has already done and mccain has said he wii continue 289million per day thats what will leave this country raped and broke.
My sense of Sen. McCain is that he is promising more of the same, Sen. Clinton is going to ram her agenda down everyone's throat, And Sen. Obama comes with ideas for the shape of the future, and asks us to help fill in the details. I don't want more of the same, I don't want someone telling me what is best for me, I want a voice in shaping my future. Only Sen. Obama is offering that.
Didn't Hillary tell us just in 2006 when she was re-elected to her Senate seat, that she was committed to completing her term in the Senate?
One of the most important things a leader can do is to inspire all of us to come up with solutions. We shouldn't be asking for a magic 20-step plan, but we do need someone to lead, unite, and inspire us to take on these challenges. Obama is the only one in the race doing that.
He's also the only one who has pointed out the connection between some of our greatest challenges: The rise of Islamic fundamentalism, global warming and other environmental challenges, and out reliance on foregin oil are part of the same problem - and Obama gets that in a way no other candidate seems to.
I'm ready to be inspired and led, and there's one candidate who does that for me - Obama.
