just a short response to zombiehero about Barack's comment that his supporters would probably not support Hillary Clinton if she gets nominated: I have to say that Barack is mostly right(even if it offends you). I am just going by myself and the other Obama supporters I know--most of them say they would never vote for Hillary under any circumstance. I don't think he is being arrogant when he says that--I think he is going by what he is hearing from his constituents. Sorry.

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 02/21/2008 12:59:53 AM

Thats fine if you can't support Hillary but is it Obama or nothing? WIll you just not vote? Thats your business. I just don't like that attitude that if your not for Obama then your against change and hope and I see a lot of that kind of though. Thats as bad as Guiliani saying that if Dem gets elected we are going to attacked again. Only this time is comming from the left.
Obama saying that just makes his message of Hope and Change a little harder to swallow. And like you said I'm no alone. So don't be offended when a lot of Dems vote against Obama come november if he is the nominee. Don't belittle us that would supports McCain over Obama.
That elitist mentality is what needs to be changed. The arrogence is what needs to change in washington and isn't that what Obama is preaching? Then why is he as arrogant?

  • Posted By: lillea @ 02/20/2008 12:50:25 PM

What kind of changes does a candidate that won't wear an American flag pin on his lapel, won't salute the American flag and his wife has never been proud to be an American until now, want for America? To be like Kenya? To be like Tiawan? God help us all and God help America.

    • Posted By: carolcpalmer@cox.net @ 02/20/2008 12:58:58 PM

Obama salutes the American flag. And he swears oaths on the Bible. Who's supplying the Kool-Ade that says otherwise? Rush?

      • Posted By: lillea @ 02/20/2008 1:22:47 PM

Who decided to remove the American flag pin from his lapel on 9/11 when the rest of the nation was flying flags from their home, cars and anywhere else they could???? Obama. WHY?????

People who complain that Barack Obama lacks experience must be unaware of his legislative achievements. One reason these accomplishments are unfamiliar is that the media have not devoted enough attention to Obama's bills and the effort required to pass them, ignoring impressive, hard evidence of his character and ability.
Since most of Obama's legislation was enacted in Illinois, most of the evidence is found there -- and it has been largely ignored by the media in a kind of Washington snobbery that assumes state legislatures are not to be taken seriously. (Another factor is reporters' fascination with the horse race at the expense of substance that they assume is boring, a fascination that despite being ridiculed for years continues to dominate political journalism.)

I was initially captivated by Obama when he came on the scene in 2004. But once you get past the rhetoric I have not been able to figure out what he stands for besides "change." Unfortunately, most democrats just want to hear the feel good catch phrases and not deal with his lack of issues.

Obama's campaign theme of "change" isn't centered on changing policy; it is centered on the fact that he is different from other candidates because he transcends policy. He does this simply by appealing to more people and staying above negative attacks. His goal isn't to change the actual aims of the Democratic Party (hence why his policy is partisan); it's to alter the way in which things get accomplished. Limiting the power of interest groups will - according to Obama - restore power to the people. That's the concept of change that he is basing his campaign on, not necessarily policy change.

    • Posted By: dewcooper @ 02/20/2008 1:14:00 PM

Does Obama not realize that those 'interest groups' represent actual Americans (not all are corrupt)? These corporations and big business that he rallies against provide goods, services and jobs for many citizens? Does he actually think that he is going to whip 500+ members of Congress into shape, having them give up their pork and perks? If so, someone needs to get him a drug test.

That's not the point. Interest aggregation and articulation are the basis of a liberal society. BUT some of the interest groups have too much political influence. Not all,. The point is to limit the power. Checks and balance basically. It's nothing revolutionary; he just articulates it well.

Obama borrowed Hillary's economic plan. Then he gave an interview in Texas criticize Hillary's economic plan as disastrous. Does he really think we are that stupid?

Bravo! My nickname for him is Barrage Oblahma. Last night's endless speech was an ego orgy. I have voted democratic since 1984. But this year, if Oblahma is the candidate, I vote for John McCain. Oblahma is an immature man on an ego trip who will make rash decisions. His Romper Room rhetoric is the liberal equivalent of Bush '00 and '04.

All Obama does is say one thing, dazzle, dazzle, dazzle and then say something different if it helps him.

All we have to go on are his words:

    Copied others speeches.
    Copied Hillary's policy proposals.
Agreed to Public Financing, now won't agree.
Several sexist comments directed at Hillary.
Trying to change the rules on "superdelegates".
Called the popular votes in Michigan, Florida and Washington a "beauty contest" (represents over 4 million voters) but wants us to care more about the number of "contests" he has won including when on 400 people vote in Alaska.

Come on people, think for yourselves. Don't be brainwashed.

He has not suggested any change in the rules for super delegates, he has merely done the same thing that Sen Clinton has done which is to lobby super delegates with argruments for how they should cast their votes... he hasn't suggested that the rules should be changed to force them to vote otherwise, however, Sen Clinton has argued that the DNC should change the rules for FLA and MI after she secured an uncontested victory.

I am from Washinton State and calling last night's primary a "beauty contest" was a mistake... It certainly didn't rise to that level of distinction.... 16.5% of the votes were invalidated because the voters refused to sight a party loyalty oath.

He and Sen Clinton agree on a lot of thngs - which neither can claim is their original thought.
He agreed to explore an agreement with the Republican nominee to use public financing, IF HE BECAME HIS PARTY'S NOMINEE, which hasn't happened yet.
Please provide an example of a sexist comment he directed at Sen Clinton

Obama reminds me of a few co-workers I've had over the last 30 years that were/ are intelligent and speak very commandingly but when it comes down to doing a job they're miserable at it. Some people work better 'theoretically' rather than in the real world - some are great at getting an education but can't apply what they've learned. I'm not saying Obama fits this but without any hard evidence of ability and accomplishments he is just someone that looks and sounds good - so I'm concerned.

That was a very intelligent piece. I could not agree more with you Robert J.Samuelson . To all of the Barack Obama sheep, where is your proof? Where is your evidence?, on the bills he tried to pass. Or the steps he took to save children's lives. How many of your children have been help by Hillary Clinton? Saved by her inspiring thoughts for your childrens health and their futures. She not only has the inspirational words "the media" says she lacks. But she has seen and heard inspirational peolpe. Now she has both will and inspiration. So She Should Be Perfect

  • Posted By: brbob @ 02/20/2008 1:12:11 PM

So now the final step. First, the press did a very effective job of getting rid of Hillary. Now that her delegation to the scrap heap is apparently complete, it is time to take aim at Obama. According to Mr. Samuelson, who now says in hindsight, Obama is not the one to be president. I guess that leaves McCain to be the only one capable of being the leader of this country. Could we not see this coming? The voters have been manipulated by these so called purveyors of unbiased news far too often and it is such a shame.

There Mr. Samuelson, you got to put in writing your narrow-minded little boring opinions about Senator Obama, do you feel better now? Good because the Senator from Illinois is going to win the Democratic nomination and the title of Commander in Chief and do you want to know why? Because Americans like myself have been, and will be, turning out in HUGE numbers to cast our vote for Barack Obama. We are fed up and disgusted by the negative narrow-minded propaganda being spewed by people like you and Senators Clinton and McCain. Anti-Obamans have been working feverishly to dissuade worn-out and disillusioned Americans from thinking that a little-known-somebody might be able to help make our government work and keep us from further sliding into bankruptcy, despair, and turmoil.

Mr. Samuelson and Co., Americans like me are all too familiar with Senators Clinton and McCain???we want to desperately break from the greedy win-at-all-costs mentality and go with someone who has a relatively fresh and positive lets-work-together approach. Let???s face it, Senator Clinton climbed the ladder using President Clinton???s back, that???s why she didn???t kick him to the curb out of respect for herself, Chelsea, and women worldwide when he was caught womanizing. Instead, Hillary let the former president soil her good name, set a poor example to his daughter, blame the women in question, and lie to the American people. And good ole elderly McCain is still too filled-to-the-brim with anger and haunts from his Vietnam experience. To even think that he could get anyone in Washington to work with him is mind-boggling even crazy-making???.

Senator Obama will be the next President of the United States and this extraordinary occurrence will be attributed to a degree by his intelligence, charisma, judgment, experience, inner-strength, and out-going personality but largely in part by the democratic backlash fueled by the fearful, narrow-minded, hateful, think-you-know-it-all, wannabe-president-too propaganda. Great.

    GO OBAMA!!

    • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 02/20/2008 10:57:58 PM

So basically what your saying is anyone that isn't going to vote Obama is dumb and delusional. That McCain and Clinton are Satan and haven't done anything ever? Are you just mad that finally someone in the media is taking a closer look at Obama and isn't seeing all roses and green pastures? That maybe Obama isn't living up to the hype? Guess what... get used to it! You will be hearing more people talk bad about Obama and more people that aren't believing the Hype. Are you going to call us all delusional and ingorant hicks because we aren't whole heartidly in for Change and Hope?

      • Posted By: AJ from KY @ 02/20/2008 11:37:38 PM

Nobody is calling you anything. I am just wondering why you have such hate in your heart for change. Do you really think that Hillary or McCain will do a better job than Obama? Wake up. Listen, stop your jelousy and just go vote for Hillary or McCain and don't worry about everyone else.

        • Posted By: Zombiehero @ 02/21/2008 12:53:03 AM

I actually like Obama. I think he is a great speaker and has many talents. I see him having a great future. I just don't believe in his politics. I'm not saying I don't belive in Hope and Change. I have hope and I think the country needs a change. What bugs me is how no one can question Obama. If you do then you will get a racist label. It worked well in South Carolina, turning the Clintons, who until that point were the voice of blacks in government. If the Clintons were called racist by any other person but Obama, the media would have given them no clout what so ever and would have been a big boost to Hillary but Obama's use of the card against Hillary was briliant, everyone bought it. He has used the media's distaste for the Clintons to his advantage and made the most of it. Good for him.. but I see that as a contridiction to his whole campaign premise..."New Politics" How ever you want to define that, he set the bar higher and should be judged by his own standard.
His refusal to come to Hillary's aid when the charges of racism came about, his charge that Hillary's supporters wouldn back him but his supporters won't back her, this new flop about public financing. What's next? How is this politics of change... sooner or later he'll have to stop blaming washington and the entrenched establishment. If he get elected he will be the establishment.

While I have to admit that Mr. Samuelson does touch on a huge vulnerability about an Obama presidency, the real story here is the root causes of the American's sentiment toward politics that has allowed a young, unknown, inexperienced and relatively unconnected politician storm the highest office in the land.

Americans are perfectly content to close their eyes and hold their ears about Barack Obama's shortcomings because we've seen enough of what's behind door number 1 to know that we'd probably prefer what's behind door number 2 without even looking.

Bill Clinton said that choosing Obama was like "rolling the dice". And America has replied "What have we got to lose?"

Barack Obama is not responsible for creating this climate, he is merely the personification of American's discontent with the status quo. To his credit, his campaign has had to be more efficient and innovative to capitalize on that sentiment and still be in the race today, and it is more the lack of such in the Clinton campaign that he finds himself ahead.

What should be taken from this is that Hilary's Clinton's "35 years of experience" are proving to be more of a liability than Obama's lack of experience and policy initiatives.

Watching Cult leader Obama making his speeches, you look at the audience and their expressions tell you everything you want to know about Obama. He is an empty suit, enthralling all his cult members with platitudes. Last night, for the first time, he went through some of his inspirations for "change" in this country and believe me, if the people in this country are stupid enough to continue their "pied piper" following of this man, we are DOOMED!!! Do you honestly believe Obama - or Hillary - will keep you safe from terrorism. The one man who has kept you free from terrorist attacks is President Bush - who you liberals detest!!
I really believe this country needs another terrorist attack to shake them out of their stupor!!! And it may just happen if the idiot Democrats don't vote for the Senate passed FISA Act!

    Obama staff meeting:

Worker: Sen. Obama, what are we going to do to help the American people?
Obama: We're going to change things!
    Worker: How, exactly?
Obama: By changing things we will be able to bring change that will change how we change things!
    Worker: But how, specifically?
Obama: We will change how the American people see change and change accordingly. Once they see change, we can then start to change how we change!!
Worker: Specifically, how will we change!?!
Obama: Through change, change and more change!!!
    Worker: But what will change!?!?
Obama: (Smiles) Why, the process of change and the bringing about of change through change of how change is brought about! It is all about change!!!
Worker: (falls on the floor, dizzy from the circular logic)

That was highly funny and a very clever way of getting the point accross.

I'm on the floor with laughter. Wow, how true.

The writer of this article on Osama Hussein Barak is so right.., so far one sensable person in this wilde USA media. It is hard for me to acknowledge that America is no longer the America I used to know...full of real, true americans...now a days it is too many immigrants, too much mixture, much many things lost the true american way...America is in for many troubles in less than 20 years..., America must become less FREE, less GENEROUS, less Human Rights, less Democratic and surely less dumb ! truly less dumb! Where in this earth would I ever imagine that a MUSLIM is about to be elected President of this once Great Country...because the people living in it isnt true americans any longer. God save you AMERICA is all i ask.

Obama is like the high school football star, "Flashy, carasmatic, everyone wants to be him and be around him, but get him alone and you find out the substance is not there." However, maybe what this country needs right now is a president that is more show than substance. Let Obama smile and wave and let congress run the country.

I'd vote Clint Eastwood for US President before voting for someone who only makes good speeches. Obama is a good talker though--have to give him that. But Mr. Eastwood would make it easier to sleep at night.
