Too little, too late. The press had an obligation to inform the American people about Sen. Obama's empty suit months ago and it failed utterly. But Obama's day is coming; after the press has built him up, it will turn on him as it did on Gore, Kerry, and Hillary, and we will have yet another Republican president (although, luckily, McCain is no George Bush).

People who complain that Barack Obama lacks experience must be unaware of his legislative achievements. One reason these accomplishments are unfamiliar is that the media have not devoted enough attention to Obama's bills and the effort required to pass them, ignoring impressive, hard evidence of his character and ability.
Since most of Obama's legislation was enacted in Illinois, most of the evidence is found there -- and it has been largely ignored by the media in a kind of Washington snobbery that assumes state legislatures are not to be taken seriously. (Another factor is reporters' fascination with the horse race at the expense of substance that they assume is boring, a fascination that despite being ridiculed for years continues to dominate political journalism.)

I do very well agree with the writer. I'm glad there is a journalist who has not been swayed by the empty, borrowed words of Obama. I am of African descent, but I believe choosing a president has nothing to do with history making - being the first black president. Choosing a president should not be based on issues such as race, gender or eloquence; it should be based on substance, and Obama has none!!

He is the best I've seen in 40 years! He not only can win but win big, with coattails that will get other Democrats elected. Democrats who can pass legislation that is sorely needed like health care. There is nothing delusional about this.

I know this post is probably getting slammed by Obama supporters as being unfair or a vicious attack. I have a different take. I'll let you in on a little secret. As an Obama supporter, I know that he doesn't walk on water and does go to the bathroom. In other words he is just a human being. More importantly I know he is a politician, not some great statesman. So why do I support him? Because, like Michael Jordon in basketball,

he is the best I've ever seen in 40 years.

Obama's so called change is nothing more than more tax and spend failed policies of Democratic dinosaurs of the past like McGovern. If the media would do their job the gap between the image and the reality of the candidate would come to light. In fact, this is the most socialistic agenda of a candidate in years. That's just what we need is a socialists for U.S. President. It's a real warning sign when Clinton looks good next to a surging candidate.

I share the hope that we will someday come together as a nation, but since Mr. Obama has no record, there is no evidence that he can accomplish this. We have eloquent words by Abraham Lincoln in the 1860's, and Dr, King 100 years later. Mr. Obama cannot compete with that -- he is merely exploiting America's guilt and unwillingness to look its problems straight in the eye. Obama offers generalizations, platitudes and over-simplifications. In fact, he may do more harm than good. We cannot afford to take a chance on such an unknown quantity. The "fierce urgency of now" is for a chief executive who can get our national affairs back in order. What is wrong with Obama serving in the Senate for a few years, gaining some experience, and allowing us to find out who he really is? Hillary Clinton is not perfect, but she has DEMONSTRATED an awesome command of the issues, she is detail-oriented, compassionate, and ready to go on Day One.

I have been reading several blogs regarding the Democratic Primary. I think that it is sad that the supporters of Sen Clinton and Sen Obama both feel that it would be better to vote for Sen McCain if THEIR candidate is not given nomination. Sen McCain is a great hero, but his ideals are contrary to those of the Democrats. Are you all so childish that you would rather put someone whose basic idealogy is opposite to yours simply out of spite? You all sound like toddlers screaming "I am taking my ball and going home because you won't play my way!" Neither candidate is perfect, but they are YOUR candidates. When November comes around, I hope you will vote for the candidate whose idealogies best match yours, whether that is a Democrat or a Republican is up to you. Countless people have died to give us the right to vote for our leaders. You dishonor their memory when you make it a game.

I understand want you are saying, but you have to realize that we can not support what we do not believe in. I will not support someone whose main promise is just hope. Hope is not a plan.

I have been waiting for someone, anyone in the media to finally have the balls to write or talk about this topic....You know who is winning this campaign for Obama...the media. It is unfortunate that style wins out over substance in America but it always does....look at the worship of the celebretards who check in and out of rehabs like we clock into work everyday......bottom line people are sheep

Finally, someone who is willing to take a hard look at the candidates and not just follow the rest of the lemur pack. I am certainly open to hearing about all of the candidates about who they are and what they stand for, and MOSTLY about what their plans are for getting the country back on track. I was beginning to think there was some kind of media sell out the way they have been promoting Obama since day 1. All great leaders have at least one thing in common, A GOOD PLAN, I don't think Obama has one, if he does, he is not telling.

I've heard Barack Obama say that he'll work to shift Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy back to the rest of us who need it. That combined with the end of the war in Iraq, as well as the dividends we'll see after we invest in a green energy industry, will help fund a lot of his proposals.

He has said he also wants to invest in building our infrastructure, like roads and bridges, instead of sending all our money overseas, and that will help drive the economy up for the working men and women of this country.

Maybe his proposals aren't that different from other clear-thinking progressives, but he brings with them the power to generate grass-roots appeal and wide-spread support, and judging by his record in the Illinois state senate, he is a genuine uniter, which this country desperately needs in the bully pulpit.

Mainly because their policies have caused more people in this world to hate us, which elevates the threat instead of diminishing it.

We need to get back to the fight in Afghanistan and get Osama Bin Laden. The whole world was behind us on that one. Iraq made a lot of oilmen and petroleum/military logistical support company shareholders extremely wealthy from your tax dollars.

Just because we haven't been attacked in the US since 2001 doesn't mean anything. We weren't attacked here after the 1993 WTC bombing until Bush was in office.

He demoted the best counter-terrorism director we've ever had (Richard Clarke) who happened to be the expert on Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda.

He ignored a PDB that was entitled "Bin Laden Determined To Attack In U.S." a month before 9/11, which talked about hijacking planes and using them as missiles. All Bush had to do was tell the FAA (a White House entity) to mandate that all cockpit doors remain locked during flight, but instead he did nothing.

...and his friends got rich. Unocal got the Afghani pipeline that Don Rumsfield tried to help them get for 2 decades, Halliburton got their hands on the 2nd largest oil fields in the world, and Cheney's other friends at Exxon, Chevron, and Shell made Billions in the obsure Iraqi Hydrocarbon Law (look it up).

That's why we need to change them.

Let's think about what Mr. Samuelson reveals about himself before valuing his positions. First, he does not like risk. He wants to deal with what is known to him and with which he is comfortable. Second, he is change avoidance, a natural consequence of avoiding risk. Third, he is not interested in the "correctness" of McCain's and Clinton's positions, just that he knows them. I might interpret this as he is limited by what he easilty understands. Now on to his positions: he devalues Obama''s positions as being that of Clinton's, after saying that he is comfortable with hers. Confusing. Second, Samuelson lacks courage of his convictions by saying that most polititions pander, ect but that Obama is to be held to a higher standard. True, but whay not just say that he believes that Obama is pandering and all that. Finally, he rather distains the voter as being dulped by this, while his higher intellect, he is not. BORING!

"FlyDiver", I couldn't agree with you more. But this is what's called sour grapes from the camp of the so called "Next in Line" candidate, Hillary Clinton. {To the Author of this piece} Ya see, the American people aren't stupid. Nor are we nieve enough to "know what's good for us". Yes, Mr. Obama's candidacy scares the pants off some, not all, some, old establishment baby boomers. But fear is a healthy thing. It's that same fear that should encourage us all to find new answers and to support those amongst us brave enough to stick our necks out in the grand quest to find those answers. That is why I'm supporting Barack Obama. Not because of his message, but because he represents my generation and he's the candidate with the most youthful potential to find those new answers. Truthfully, I feel sorry for the man once he takes office - WHAT A MESS! The Clintons and The Bush's have done their very worst and now this young man, this young man, has to try to rebuild a respected nation from the ashes of a politically corrupt institution. And he has to do it from within. He'll need all our help. He'll need gods help. So understand this if you've never understood what these words mean - God Bless America. And God Bless Barack Obama.

This is good. A journalist sees the same "elephant in the room" that some of the rest of us see. Barack Obama is succeeding based on a pop-culture type of fame. Where reck stars sing and actors act, Barack speaks. Is this so hard to understand. I for one do not want to see the next president of the U.S. elected based on his pop-culture appeal. Experience and a known quantity is what the country needs. Save the idolatry for "American Idol" and the "reality" shows on the boob tube. I sincerely hope the electorate is not so stupid, but unfortuneately these are the same people who buy-in to all the "pop-culture" crap out there today.

Obama is all talk and no action - the time has come for "Oprah's Political Club's Pick" to put up and step up or shut up and step down. I admire the man's oratory skills and agree it's important that a leader inspire. But that doesn't exempt him from having to answer questions with specifics or give him a free pass on having to prove he can move the political freight it's going to take to make things right with America.

I've seen this figure of 890 bills written, can you site a source for that number, because I have not been able to find it.

Yea she really has great picks.
Do I recall that she could not even pick a school administrator? So we should trust her judgement?????

Please do your homework and research before writing an editoriral. Senator OBama has more political years of experience than Senator Clinton. Being the wife of a politican does not count in her record for years of public office. Would you let your surgeon's spouse operate on you? Of Course Not. You are entitled to your position, but please be reliable with accurate, factual information.

Few voters do this type of analysis. If Obama is able to carry his inspirational message of unifying people into the Presidency, he is more likely to fulfill his promises than either Clinton or McCain would be in achieving theirs. Both are polarizing personalities who would only perpetuate the current political stalemate in Washington.
