Amen! As an African American I did not vote for Obama in our recent election. I feel he talks the talk but has little to no experience to back it up. In fact, I wasn't even sure what talk he was talking about. History has proven that inexperienced Presidents get whipped. There is so much politics going on in Washington that Obama won't know what hit him or when it hit him.

    • Posted By: omegara @ 02/20/2008 6:59:04 PM

If you don't know what Obama stands for then that is your fault. It is everywhere in the internet. As far as inexperienced, you also don't know history. George W. Bush was the governor of Texas with NO national political experience and he is not being whipped in Washington, Bill Clinton was the governor of Arkansas and NEVER had national political experience and he was not whipped in fact, Hillary is running on his years in the White House as her own. Ronald Regan was the Governor of California and did not have national experience. Oh and by the way the three named were all 2 term Presidents.

I am starting to believe that people are purposefully writing these uniformed, ignorant rants to twist the facts towards a particular candidate. Because if these opinions are legitimate then our school system really is bad. It is hard to believe that there are this many people willing to advertise the fact that they don???t know what they are talking about.

To all you lying bastards who portend to be something you are not; You are a SHAMEFUL EXCUSE for a human. I mean all those morons who claim to be black, mix-race, albinos, flamingoes, and white when they post a comment as if it makes any difference , By God you know you lying.
If you have something intelligent to say just say it. Dont prefix it with am a black woman/man but voted for or will vote for Hillary or am a white woman/man but i voted for or will vote for Obama.
Its a real giveaway that you are not what you claim to be.

There is no Obama Delusion, you are blinded by fear, and unable to see the change in american politics..

bottom line- if you want a democratic president, you should vote for obama in your primary/caucus because he is the only democrat with a shot of becoming president this time. all of the opinion polls show that. if you want us to be in iraq 20 years from now & for roe v wade to be overturned, then don't vote for obama. i have a phd in this stuff after studying it for years and it is obvious to me that, regardless of whether you like her or not, a vote for hillary is basically just a vote for mccain. that is why so many conservative commentators have been trying to promote hillary for the last couple years. they know that, if she gets the nomination, the republicans get the presidency.

Blah blah blah. How about some equal time? How about the John McCain illusion. A "straight talker" who changed all his positions to pander to neocons. A "fiscal consravative" who want to support endless war will holding onto the Bush tax cuts?

How about Samuelson --so worried about ourbudget --who won't own up to the fact that the cost of Iraq is significant? That having the US to continue to make over 50% of the world's military expenditures is hard to support with the end of thr "reserve currency" subsidy and the falling dollar?

Yeah Obama is pretty unclear. I am not thrilled about his excuse for a health care program, for example.

But to pretend John McCain has been properly defined is so irresponsible as to be criminal.

Obama dilusion? How about the dilusion that has been created by the good 'ol boys that represent this country that America is on the up and up. The past eight years we have managed to wage a war on false pretenses, angered much of the world, created a unsurmountable debt that clearly says "do as I say not as I do", created foreign policies that if imposed on us we would be as irate as those that we have affected, put the economy in the cellar (but we will get that great big tax cut- whoopee, been left in the dark ages by other industrialized countries when it comes to health care, continued to depend on big oil while they earn record profits all the while ignored sound, smart technology, conitnue to let Drug companies rip us off, and ignored our constitutiojnal rights, all the while telling me that I'm safe and protected when kids are bringing guns to my childrens school. Obama is anything but dilusional and Bush proved one thing - if he can run this country with sayings like " we'll smoke 'em out of their caves" than Obama has a afairly easy road to follow. He may inherit a mess but its not like our now president will go down as one of the great ones. We need a breath of fresh air and a completely new direction. We need someone who will accept criticism from their peers and not "stay the course." We need bi-partisanship, realistic goals, jobs kept here in the U.S. and more exporting than importing. We need CEOs that don't get hundreds of million dollars for ruining a company. We need to take back this country from the big businesses, from the good 'ol boys and invest it in our backyards. I could care less if Obama was a republican or a democrat, a liberal or a conservative. He is by far the best shot we have at prosperity, integrity and hope this country needs and once had. He is by far the person who can help this country lead this world by allowing actions to speak louder than words.

    Change:

In a speech in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on February 16, 2008, Senator Obama said that ???change only comes from below??? and that ???change does not come from above.??? If so, what he is running for the highest office in the country for? Senator Obama is a veteran politician who tells his supporters what they want to hear: the same charge he levels at his opponents.

    Policies of Yesterday:

We can all learn from the past successes and failures. Senator Obama keeps denouncing the ???policies of yesterday??? but at the same time he likes to use ???words of the yesterday??? from his friends and other heroes of yesterday. The whole civilization evolves from the past. We do not discard everything of the past but only the broken ones.

    ???Present??? Vote:

As a legislator in the state of Illinois, Senator Obama voted ???present??? 66 times. Is he going to vote ???present??? in the White House, too?

    • Posted By: omegara @ 02/20/2008 6:50:43 PM

Do you realize that some of you are saying that you are disappointed in Obama because he is both a political insidered making "backdoor" deals and saying anything the crowds want to hear and yet at the same time, he is not experienced in how Washington works.

I like what Barack Mentions here in your article. Its about time we even out the score for people who have to survive in this country and this world. CEO's making 1000 times more than their employees etc is sick and its time we made these changes. A rich person can only be rich if they are taking advantage of 10 poor people. Everything has to equal out somehow and to say that because my parents ripped off millions of others that it should be handed down to me is also sick. Yes Barack is going to level the playing field for all people. OBAMA08

bottom line is that obama is much more likely to win the presidency than hillary. so, if you want a democrat as president, it is prudent to vote for him in your primary/caucus. this has been proven by many opinion polls. i believe there is no poll that has ever indicated that hillary has a better chance of beating mccain than obama does. if you want a republican who will stay in iraq for 20 years and probably overturn roe v wade, then don't vote for obama. this is straightforward. -someone who has a phd in this stuff.

  • Posted By: trixiemonks @ 02/20/2008 5:39:04 PM

Because of these very reasons, I have decided that if Obama wins the nomination. I, as a longstanding proud democrat, will vote for McCain in the general election. I can not trust a man that is a puppet of stolen words and stolen policies. The President has to be able to make difficult decisions very quickly, he WILL fall short and the Democratic Party will catch all of the backlash.

    • Posted By: omegara @ 02/20/2008 6:44:39 PM

You don't know how government works, the President does not make gut decisions on the spur of the moment. When they do, the end up like Bush. Presidents have a cabinet and the entire US congress that they must deal with to get anything done. EXAMPLE: Bush wanted to invade Iraq but before he could, he went to the United Nations and to the Congress. It was Congress that authorized the use of force. Not to mention the team of advisors other than those mentioned. Before she was Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice was the National Security Advisor. Rice would read and interpret the national security assessments and report her opinions to Bush. But Congress also was provided with the same reports which they were expected to read and work on. That is the check and balance system of government that has been usurped by the Bush Administration.

Comment: This article is right on point of the Obama campaign and, indeed, the Obama movement. People are rallying around Obama not for plans, but because they believe he is GOD, like the Kennedy's. Obama actually says very little about his policies or political agenda. He opposes abortion and gay marriage, and on policy issues such as how much we're going to tax poor people.I like Hillary Clinton.

    • Posted By: jayjaydubu @ 02/20/2008 6:38:00 PM

Last night in Hillary's speech she didn't give any specifics on any proposals on how to fix America. And why does she just keep talking about herself and Barack in a campaign instead of going to work for America like she keeps talking about doing? I guess that means she isn't qualified to be president by her own standards because all she does is talk.

Do you Clinton people see how ridiculous you sound. All this talk of rhetoric and no substance can be applied to any candidate in the race. They are all on the stump speaking in generalities.

  • Posted By: julie3 @ 02/20/2008 5:06:15 PM

Ouch. I'm not sure where to begin, but this statement disturbs me the most: "Repudiating racism is not a magic cure-all for the nation's ills." Actually, I believe repudiating racism would be but one benefit of electing Obama, but it is a strong one. Racism remains at the heart of many of our nation's woes. Until we honestly address our nation's lingering race problem, we can't fully address other issues including education, housing, health care, and economic opportunity. Imagine, too, as Andrew Sullivan has written, what a message we'd be sending to the Middle East with the election of a dark-hued man with a familial understanding of the Islamic world.

Still, race isn't the main reason I've supported Obama for a year now. For me, his books - especially Dreams From My Father - show the sort of world view he'd take the White House. His website is packed with substantive, but seldom-mentioned policy proposals. The technology and community service plans are especially impressive. When people say or write that Obama hasn't been specific about his plans, it simply shows that they're not digging very deep.

The bottom line for many of us is this: Obama alone seems to have the potential to break two decades of Washington gridlock. That's why he's winning votes across the political spectrum and why he's giving Beltway insiders such fits.

    • Posted By: beaker87 @ 02/20/2008 6:36:59 PM

???Repudiating racism would be but one benefit of electing Obama???. So if racism by definition is prejudiced based on race, then how is 90% of blacks voting for a black candidate not somehow a form of racism. I don???t see how voting Mr. Obama president is going to repudiate racism.

    Mr Samuelson,

You sound like you're afraid of your original gut insintinct. Making excuses, albeit not petty ones, stopping you from moving forward. As the rest of us, you also heard the Bell in these times of darkness. We are all atrophied. But you will be asked, "Where were you when it happened?" Leading is not filing.

Maybe you should try the facts.

      Email Misrepresents Hillary's Legislative Record
      2/13/2008 5:41:09 PM

There is an email circulating that grossly misrepresents Hillary's legislative record, as well as the record of Sen. Obama. (Various versions appear on the Obama campaign website here, here, and here.)

The email only gives Hillary credit for bills where she was the original sponsor and have also been signed into law. Here are the facts. In her time in the Senate, Hillary has sponsored 21 bills that have become law including:

??? a bill that extended the availability of unemployment assistance.

??? a bill which established a program to assist family caregivers.

??? a bill that provided benefits to public safety officers who were killed or injured during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

But Hillary's accomplishments in the Senate are not limited to bill sponsorships. Among her many other legislative accomplishments:

??? Hillary worked with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to expand access to health care for the National Guard and Reserve.

??? Hillary passed an amendment that created a national program for teacher and principal training and recruitment.

??? Hillary used Senate rules to force the Bush administration to make emergency contraception, also known as Plan B, available over the counter.

Meanwhile, the email gives Sen. Obama credit for every bill he introduced or signed on as a co-sponsor, whether or not they became law. The reality is, since Sen. Obama joined the Senate (applying the same standard the email applies to Hillary) he has sponsored two bills that have become law:

??? a bill that sought to promote democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

??? a bill that named a post office.

      • Posted By: orangedude @ 02/20/2008 6:34:52 PM

And what if you apply the same standards to Clinton as was applied to Obama in the original post. How many pieces of legislature has Clinton introduced or signed on as a co-sponsor (regardless of becoming law)? I'm curious.

Way to go media! Ya'll blow it up our #@@'s with hype while all the time all he is saying is he'll pull all the necessary needed monies out of our #@@'s! Why are we as a government so capible so spending that which w do not have? If we were dependant upon our corporate banks for the monies we spend as a country we would make the sub-prime mess look like a kids 5th birthday party.

It has to end. We can no longer feed and finance the world, period. We as a country should approach the world bank and ask OUR debt be forgiven if it and the world wants us to continue to be its keeper. Call it a management fee. Otherwise we need to build a fence around this country and keep everything in house as there is NOTHING we can not do for ourselves and the monies saved (or not spent) supporting the rest of this sorry world would solve all of our problems.

Samuelson, and your point is? Geez, get on the bandwagon! That there are problems stalemated by partisanship, and here is a youngman, inexperience he may be, but willing to bring the depth and breath of disparate American talents and skills together to sovle these problems, is change enough and soooooooo refreshing; don't you think so? His is so different from Hilary Clinton or John McCain, who both focus on <I> which means themselves and single-handedly can solve the myriad national problems. Why don't you call their bluffs on this? Can Hilary alone have all the solutions to all the problems facing the antion? That Obama urges all of us to put our heads together across party lines and other cleavages, is deeper than the experience of being a consort of a president. You need to rethink your article.

God help America should Barack or Clinton win. Either one is a disaster

Bill Clinton didn't have a clue what to do when he became President. After floundering around for a while, he finally chose the economy and it all worked out just fine. Obama is as or more prepared than Clinton was, Obama will figure it out too.
