It seems there are two groups most opposed (or frightened) by Obama: 1) radical feminists who much prefer to have a fem as our lode star; and 2) jews concerned Obama can't be bought or packed with jewish advisors.

Comment: I like the sheep. People like me are so afraid of change that we are more comfortable knowing I am being underserved by the same old political hacks like Obama than
you could ever be with a president who admits the system is broken and that it will take radical change to fix it. And to make matters worse its a black man lying to you. The saddest thing about this is that he is a parrot.

You should leave journalism and join the sheep. People like you are so afraid of change that you are more comfortable knowing you are being underserved by the same old political hacks like Hilliary and McCain than
you could ever be with a president who admits the system is broken and that it will take radical change to fix it. And to make matters worse its a black man telling you the truth. The saddest thing about this is that you are a journalist, the kind it seems have always found themselves in demand when the govt. needed a parrot.

just picturing Obama inviting Amendjhani to the white house or inviting al-queda leadership for talks and compromise.....oh how scary

Obama says Americans can safely go to sleep when he is President--his message of change and hope will make our terrorist enemy magically disappear. Obama is a good talker.

Wow I can tell how well informed you are about the Middle East. You obviously are one of the sheep that followed the administration into a mis guided war. Enough with the terrorist rhetoric. Read a little more about The History of the Middle East instead of listening to what you are being fed by this administration. Misinformed people who follow this administration on its misadventures to no where, scare me more than Barack or Hillary any day.

Comment: Amen, thank God multiple people responded to this masterpiece! I hate a Muslim, a Catholic, a Baptist, a Mormon a whatever in this country...that's what makes us suck despite the hatred the Bush-McCains are trying to instill into everyone through fear tactics. Secondly, Muslim = terrorist It's extremists are comparable to many of America's homegrown "radical terrorists", the KKK is also a terrorist organization or maybe you know that already.

Whatever we do in America, let us not vote for hope and vision. Let us vote for the same old tired people who have been responsible for this nation being in this position in the first place. That way, we can continue to *** and moan and try to figure out where we went wrong again. You know the old saying, "Do the same thing over again and expect different results." Of course Obama isnt going to be able to accomplish everything he would like. There will be plenty of opposition from inside our rotten Congress. But one thing I can assure you of, this person will not be voting for someone (Hillary) who voted for the war without first reading the NIE report, and then try to lie her way out of it. What's wrong with admitting a mistake was made and being responsible for it? The failure to do so brings back too many haunting memories of the Clintons in office from 1992-2000....Our other choice is BombBomb John. Mr. McCain flips more than the pancake maker at I-Hop. First he was against the taxcuts before he was for them. Now that he is a shoe-in for the nominee, he now is pandering again on the torture issue and not wanting to tie the hands of the CIA. The stories go on and on.....No thanks Mr. Samuelson, we need some new blood.

Obama needs to come clean and admit that he is more of a motivational speaker than a leader.

All politician???s promise us the moon, and I have yet to see a single one of them be able to deliver 10% of what they promise. Congress runs this country, not the President. Congress can???t even agree on whether to provide health care to children, let alone agree on a health care plan to cover all Americans. Our Congress is so daft they can not even come up with creative solutions to get Americans educated to the point where we don???t have to recruit software engineers from India. Please, don???t imagine that Hillary Clinton, John McCain, or anyone else will make a difference. None of them will. Our Congress has its hands tied by special interests and the agendas of its members. Their greed and lack of a true understanding of the struggles of the average American citizen is disheartening and reinforces the negative view we have of our government. They have no clue what it is like in the real world.

Obama is long on rhetoric short on substance-no differnt than Jackson or Sharpton but perhaps less black sounding when he speaks to a non-black audience. In every other respect he is the same-community activist, street organizer.Typical endeavor for those who can afford not to work for a living and supported by mysterious sponsors something Obama has never explained. It is indeed amazing how so many Americans permit themselve by be duped by a glib Elmer Gantry style con artist. Barnum was right. there is a sucker born every minute!

    • Posted By: Obamaisagoodtalker @ 02/20/2008 4:51:49 PM

Yes, have to agree that Obama is a good talker. America needs a leader though, not a motivational speaker.

  • Posted By: number40one @ 02/20/2008 1:50:22 PM

I don't care how the saying goes: We've been dealing with "the devil we know" for quite some time now and have we been satisfied?

All politicians use rhetoric and promises. Singling out Brack Obama's rhetoric just because it sounds better to the majority is disingenuous.

Please, somebody lay out Hillary's record of success. You think she's going to bring Universal Health Care to the nation? She does have a track record that department which people seem to forget: failure. In fact, that failure has been labeled by history as one of the biggest blunders of the first Clinton administration.

Looking for Obama accomplishments? Start with $100 million in tax cuts for the families of Illinois while he was in the state legislature.

A vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue an already-20-year Bush/Clinton Dynasty. And we bluster at the "presidency" of Vladimir Putin...

    • Posted By: Shadoe01 @ 02/20/2008 3:26:28 PM

It would do you good to remember that during Bill Clinton's years in office there was a Republican Congress & Senate. You can not blame her if it did not get implemented! Check facts before you open your mouth and insert your foot!

      • Posted By: number40one @ 02/20/2008 4:50:54 PM

And another thing: The Clintons' health care initiative failed in 1993. The Republicans took over the majority in the House and Senate (both are in Congress as a whole, by the way) in 1994. Political historians point to the Clinton administration's first-year failures as the REASON the Dems lost Congress the following year.

        But try again.

      • Posted By: number40one @ 02/20/2008 4:41:33 PM

No footwork required, my friend. How does that make her any more qualified and/or able to get things done? This does nothing to enhance her track record. Any way you slice it, it's still a failure, and further illustrates the point that Republican's will not work with her.

Finally somebody that gets it about the media and Obama. They are turning the primaries into a Hollywood flick. Very much indeed, a mass delusion as the author puts it. Barack is running out of scripts so he has to borough some from his old pal. That is what he calls change, going back to a speech used two years ago. The comment of Michelle Obama is disgraceful. Who does she think she is? Luckily there are no cutting scenes in this Hollywood flick. Let´s see what excuse she is going to come up with. Thanks for this great article.

Samuelson derides Obama's stated ideas and plans, saying, "They're so similar to many Clinton proposals that her campaign put out a news release accusing Obama of plagiarizing." And Samuelson makes this statement after claiming that "Whatever one thinks of these ideas, they're standard goody-bag politics: something for everyone." In other words Samuelson characterizes even Hillary's rhetoric as pandering demagoguery, yet he justifies support for Hillary on the grounds that at least she never espoused the high ideals that Obama has burdened himself with. There is an insurmountable monumental synaptic gap of tortured logical here which can only be explained via a stealth prejudice or predisposition which Samuelson brought to the discussion table and stalwartly wedded himself to ... IN SPITE OF THE FACTS and IN SPITE OF THE NON-SENSICAL NON SEQUITUR CIRCULARITY of the flim-flam logical which purportedly supports his conclusions.

You know, the literacy problem in America must be MUCH worse than I thought! Good grief, the people so vehemently against Barack Obama, who blurt out the same RHETORIC that Hillary repeats day after day about Sen. Obama being all talk and no substance (a blurb which they probably only caught flipping the channels between Maury and Jerry Springer) really need to pick up a book! And now this Jack A writes an article that's clearly biased and unsubstantiated by fact is all the sudden "the light", "the revelation" that all of you pessimists have been waiting to hear from???? Are you kidding me??? You are the same so and so's (trying to be like Barack and disagree without being disagreeable) that voted W in twice!!! Supported the war gungho, blasted those of us that knew it smelled like 10 day old fish to begin with as being unpatriotic, NOW you say, "we know what's best and Barack ain't it"???? Yeah, why don't we keep listening to you short-sighted, narrow-minded, partisan Americans???? Get real - the time is now! Obama for President! CA

Oh boy, get with the times. It's the 21st century. And more importantly, it's time to stop this ridiculous, fear-mongering mentality of the Bush era. You're the one with the empty rhetoric Mr. Samuelson. You are certainly deluded. I'm a 50ish, white female from the rural Northwest, and I've never in my life been prouder to be an American. It's just embarassing to read your absurd nonsense. Yes, Americans 'are tired of hearing promises made', and that is why we're ready for change; the type of change Obama will bring for us.

    • Posted By: Obamaisagoodtalker @ 02/20/2008 4:47:28 PM

Let's hope the CHANGE he has in mind isn't counter to a prosperous and safe America. Change is a good thing, but American needs a leader right now instead of a motivational speaker. Obama has always been a good talker though.
