SHUT UP LILLEA- people are going to think you missed the short bus to school and are playing on mommy and daddy's computer.

You can post ANY web-site that makes up crap and claims it's true. But can you post a legitimate newspaper that backs up your point? I didn't think so.

This is how you do it:

I sense the same degree of fervor with getting Obama elected the next president as when the masses were rallying for the current president and his team which took nation into a costly and mistaken war in Iraq. If anyone spoke up about taking the time to consider the realities and facts, supporters of the cause would not hesitate to cut them down with unkind words, back then for being unpatriotic, now for being opponents to the winds of change. Ideas for changes must pass the test - changes have short and long term impact that must be considered and how they will be funded must be examined with a fine toothed comb. Fiscal irresponsibility will further weaken America's position in the world - we cannot go on living on borrowed money and put the next generation further into debt.

The mob mentality giving Obama a pass on actually speaking truth to his power is the scary aspect here. All the candidates should be called to task for explaining what they'd do (or not do) - don't you dare give a candidate a free pass on that because he learned to copy some eloquent words from Deval Patrick.

I'll give you some promises, and facts, and if you can reconcile them, then your support of Obama is well warranted. .and you are ahead of Obama in terms of planning..

    1) He'll end the war in 2008 - military logisticians have been quoted as saying even an aggressive evacuation would take 20 months. There are over 30,000 vehicles in Iraq - all of them have to be driven 400 miles, washed, loaded into ships, and sent back. Helicopters have to be shrinkrapped. And hopefully we wouldn't sacrifice speed to the safety of the troops in a retreat. And hopefully we wouldn't ignore executions of Iraqis that worked with the Americans, especially if groups started to move in to take over the power vacuum. His talk of ending this (not just beginning to end it, which I believe in) in 2009 isn't just wrong, its naive, and if he believes it, malicious.

    2) SS/Medicare - his talk of reforming Social Security involves just raising the earnings cap - basically, adding 12.4% to the tax bracket of anyone earning $102k and upward. So a 28% tax bracket become 40%, and a 39% tax bracket (the former Clinton top rate) becomes 51%. He has no stated position on Medicare, which become insolvent in 11 years. Its already a single payer system - where would the savings come from - the BIG savings necessary so the boomers don't bankrupt it

    3) The AMT - elminating the AMT on middle income voters will cost $1 trillion over 10 years. He hasn't stated how he would end it, but we assume he will, so if he lets the top-rate Bush tax cuts expire, then its a wash - 1 trillion in revenue goes to 1 trillion in tax reductions.

    4) The Bush tax cuts - many effect the rich, but not most - every bracket was lowered, and middle income families with kids saved well over $1-2k. Does those expire too? And capital gains - with baby boomers retiring, and selling stocks/bonds to finance their retirement, do you want to raise the capital gains quite a bit? In fact, since the capital gains tax was cut, revenues from it have skyrocketed. Do you raise them and watch the revenue plummet?

    4) Immigration - he didn't sign onto the comprimise McCain-Kennedy plan (one that over 60 senators supported) - what's his plan?

    5) FISA - he didn't sign onto the renewal of FISA wiretap laws, which over 60 senators supported. what's his plan? If two identified terrorists route an internet call through a U.S. router, can we listen in?

And he's been campaigning continuously for the past 8 months.. doing nothing in the Senate. We've had 8 years of arrogance and incompetence in the White House - I feel Obama might drop the arrogance, but leave us with the incompetence.

just look at the comments all over the web (exept FOXNEWS of course)...people want Obama to lead this nation. No matter how hard the naysayers try to discredit him, he keeps gaining. When it comes down to it, Barack Obama has created the largest political movement this nation has seen since the 1960's. Think about that, revel in it, and then formulate an apology for this atrocious "journalim". I've enver really liked NEWSWEEK anyway, they'll say whatever as long as they sell magazines. In this case, they've decised to use a negative approach to garner publicity...real original. You should show more respect for your future commander in chief. HOPE & CHANGE might not be original ideas, but for a politician to inspire the masses in the way Barack Obama has, is unprecedented, and no amount of negative attacks will stop this movement of change and momentum. OBAMA '08!!!

You ain't seen nothing yet. When the general campaign starts and
the media and Republicans start their pro-McCain coverage and
mudslining, Obama won't know what hit him.

Let me first state that I'm an Obama supporter. What the author points out is not, in fact, that Obama's policies differ significantly from Clinton's, rather that hsi policies don't attain the level of his lofty rhetoric. The suggestion that he might have 'plagiarised' his platform from hers is ironic (it's been suggested that Clinton 'stole' her health insurance plan from Edwards, but I digress...) Change in these times of deep partisanship cannot possibly be anything but incremental and while I too agree that some revolutionary policies, polcies that look deep to the foundations and sources of our current problems are necessary, such change is difficult at the outset. What I see in Obama is, indeed, the *possibility* that we can attain these kinds of changes. Take hsi propoosal of $4,000 per year tuition with the REQUIREMENT that recipients engage in public service. That not only helps the students, it helps their communities, and it instills a sense of ownership in the society that has faded in the last two decades of BOTH the previous Clinton and the current Bush. If Clinton were to win the nomination, I would gurdgingly vote for her because the overall policy platforms of the Democratic Party are closer to what the country currently needs, HOWEVER, I firmly believe that Obama is better suited and better positioned to actually enact these policies, and if indeed he can turn a corner on the politics of partisanship, then perhaps he can move deeper to the root causes and push for faster, more revolutionary policy changes. Indeed, voting for Obama is voting on hope, but it's not voting on false hope. If his policies are similar to Clinton's, but he's better able to engage the country and bring citizens back to the table, and again feel that they SHOULD be sitting at the table of governance, then there is no delusion at work except the unfortunate belief that change is indeed impossible... I leave it to the voters to decide, and indeed hope they will, but I hope again in my lifetime to see an electoral map like that of 1984, a landslide of support from coast to coast for a single transformative figure. This time I hope to see the sweep of states fall to Obama as thy did to Reagan 24 years ago...

Hmmmmm........Obama will unite. Seems to me like he's doing a pretty good job of splitting his own party.

this is the problem with the present emotion-based politics on both sides. what feels good is often what's not good for you - the media remind us of this when it comes to our wastelines. government spending's totally out of control, politicians are promising more largesse in order to win votes, and the stage is being set for economic disaster. how are we going to collect the dozens of *trillions* of dollars in taxes for all the unfunding liabilities on the books without crashing the economy and destroying the country? meanwhile bizarre government regulations and tax preferences have made medicine ridiculously expensive. solution: permanently shrink the federal government, remove ridiculous controls, flatten the "progressive" tax, and stop meddling with the economy. china and india are going to drive the u.s. into the ground if we continue this - and if we keep teaching kids everything but the basics of rationality and self-responsibility. get the political correctness out of the classroom.

You know, you really should read history before you make such comments. Obama has more than a decade of voting history that you might want to take some time to read about. HIllary does not. She has only one elected position in her life. Obama has had two. Hillary has been investigated several time for crimes. Obama worked for two international companies before becoming a community organizer. Hillary does not have the experience she claims. Senator Joe Biden has been and election senator for the United States for 35 years. And yet to hear Hillary speak she has more experience than Biden. Bill Richardson has been a member for congress, was appointed ambassador to Israel (by Bill Clinton) and is the governor of New Mexico and has actually balanced budgets. And yet in typical Clinton spin, Hillary claims to have more Experience than Richardson. Keep in mind she never claims to have years in Legislative experience (that would be a lie) she claims to have experience in "understanding how Washington works". Well we all know that Washington works through a series of deals, handshakes and winks that seem to make the politicians rich will the the rest of us suffer. I am not interested in voting for someone whose only claim to fame is playing the political game.In December 2006,

As far as international understanding, President Bush signed into law the "Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act," marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor.

As far as McCain, In 2005, Obama co-sponsored the "Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act" introduced by Sen. John McCain and Senator Obama is also an original cosponsor of the Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act , which was introduced by Senators Lieberman and McCain and would mandate 60% reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Now I know that it takes time to read and understand these facts in order to see where the candidate is coming from but just because some people don't want to take the time doesn't mean that the information is not there.

Get Real you and everyone that do not understand. Republicans quote Regan all the time he never sent one solider to die in a far off country for someone else. he worked with Tip O Neil a Boston Democrat to get things done. Why because he could communicate, understand communicate. When will you tell us what original ideal John McCain has 50 years of more war. To the author is your son or daughter dieing over there or getting maimed for life I bet not. What has this country become the Bush/Clinton Kingdom only they can govern. Look at the mess his father left and Clinton was no better. Have you all forgot the tech bubble that burst and we all lost money from our 401 K's. Delusion let me tell you delusion to continue to do the exact same thing and expect a different outcome. That's idiotic. Guess what the people of this country is not buying your BS about delusion. Got news for you buddy for once the people are not reading the media or listening to the talking heads on TV who claim to know something. They are making decisions for themselves. Now let's address this pride in country issue . It has taken over 220 years for even a Woman or a Black man to be considered for the presidency of this country you think that's right. I bet you do. You know for me as far as I am concerned he not do any worse than all your tried and true experienced people have done. Take for example the two people you laud Mccain and Clinton this man has not only raised more money but has managed his campaign brillantly. You keep Obama and not let these so called press people who never gave him a chance slow you down. The American people support you and that's all that matters.

Barack Obama, truth sayer, Muslim, Black American,an Individual, a christian, what is he--- all of the above. I BELIEVE SO! I read the article as well as most of the comments for and against and what I need to understand is WHY we are having this discussion about, experience, plans, or ack of a "track record." The truth for me is look at the last 7 years-- where are we-- are we not in the worst possible shape that we have been in for centuries. We have suffered the worst Terrorist attack in recent history and have actively started and contiued a war-- not with the ones responsible for the attack-- but some other terrorist who just happens to have the resources we need. We are in a deficit beyond contemplation that will take decades to recover. Most of are realestate is owned by those outside America's borders-- and we deploy our military to aide other countries and cover the cost (some of which have more wealth) -- and our military- filled with strong and brave men and women who have lost and continue to loose their families and given their lives in a fight to perserve our freedoms against terrorism yet we do not persue the true terrorist. Our education system is last among "super powers"- the "no child left behind" policy is a joke-- most recently, funding ear-marked for HBCUs -- 85 million have been tranferred from education to continue to fund this WAR (you don't have to be educated to kill)--the healthcare system-- well what healthcare is more likely-- social security in its present state-- a thing of the past in a few years-- our GREEN space is decreasing-- Our pollution increasing-- our water is disappearing--our health failing- our way of life sinking and what you think we need is the SAME THING THAT WE HAVE HAD FOR THE PAST 7 YEARS- IN THE WHITE HOUSE !!!! a person who had a "track record" who had 'experience" who had a "plan." II PRAY TO GOD-- please give me something different-- please give me- the inexperience candidate that does not realize that he can not make a CHANGE-- please give me the candidate that speaks of hope and salvation and the light at the end of the tunnel-- please give the the candidate that believes that if we all come together, we can make America a place were are are second to none in education, healthcare, economic growth and military strength. We as Americans need the promise of something more, the promise of something special, the promise to turn the page and reach beyond what EXPERIENCE has brought us!!! WE WANT AN AMERICA THAT IS ETHICAL, GOOD, HONEST, HONORABLE, HOPEFUL, OBJECTIVE, MORAL, TRUTHFUL, UNBIASED, and COLOR BLIND!

How much did you get paid by the Clintons to write such a poorly disguised propaganda piece?
How about Hillary Clinton vacuum and total incompetence at running just her campaign> How is that showing that is a known entity? Who could ahve known that the Clinton machine was such an empty threat? She is out of money and in complete panick mode. Why can't you beelieve in change ? Are you that desilusioned?
Thankfully the majority of the American people are not, and with Obama we may take this good country back on track.

Oh, and Hillary doesn't tell people what they want to hear? Those of us who support Obama know how devisive she is and believe that Obama has the ability to be an agent of change rather than an agent of partisan politics.

Obama's 10-0 run has alot of people scared. They first thought he would be gone by Feb 5th, but he's still there raking in all those states that don't matter. Don't worry he'll be gone by March 4th.

    • Posted By: Obamaisagoodtalker @ 02/20/2008 3:39:58 PM

No one wants the good talker Obama gone, some of us simply want to hear some specifics instead of the same change, change, change, change broken message--change is a good thing but it shouldn't be a shield to hide behind for fear of alienating potential voters with specifics...change, change, change, hopefully Obama won't end of changing the value of the America dollar with non-specifics about how best to handle the current economic conditions here at home in America. CHANGE your words, Senator Obama, and talk specifics for a CHANGE. Won't blame you if you don't because you may just risk alienating the very people who only hear the words change, change, change instead of specifics.

In response to stellahoss...I'm not sure I agree with you on the statement that no one could do more harm than GWB has done. Although I certainly am not a fan, and did not support him in either of his elections, we have to come to grips with the reality that his administration is still holding this country together (albeit by a thread). If someone is not put into office who is READY to take the reins from "day one," then this country could be in serious trouble. We can't afford a president who needs shakedown time. We can't afford to have the world watch as we stumble through the first year of an administration's youthful mistake. We need actions, and we need them now.

I don't like the idea people vote for Obama just because its their chance to elect a black president.
I have seen people on exit polls stating the fact that "this is my only chance to elect a black president."
so if I went on TV and said I voted for Edwards or Clinton because they are white... oh god could you imagine the backlash of that... we even have the two? black super delegates switching positions because they have to VOTE BLACK.
Its always cracks me up that people think racism is a one way street. If you are white your racist. If your black its OK to be proud of your heritage. Enough said. yeah I am a racist. I am white.

Now, that's personal - I lost a good friend on that day. Know why Rudy was walking around all the time? He had his office in WTC after, they bombed it in 93? WAKE UP! you're believing their lies...
