Although I tend to agree with the author that Senator Obama's rhetoric is the ground he stands on, it's unfair to say he's "hypnotised" the people. If this election is any evidence of a complacency, the people clearly are tired of politicians like Senator Clinton and Senator McCain. People are aware of the overzealous and poetic nature of Senator Obama's rhetoric, but they have CHOSEN to do accept it as token of their interest in a fresh face. Regardless of whether change of policies is achieved, Senator Obama has made an extraordinary prediction: a change of guard is necessary in Washington.

All you Dems should have voted for Biden or Richardson - both of them have experience and even I as a Republican could respect them and maybe even consider them. Now you're stuck with Hillary and Barack. Nice going.

Did everyone read this >>*Now you're stuck with Hillary and Barack. Nice going.* We were stuck with Bush !! Now what ..Maybe you should have ran for President . I tell you the posts I have read today on this subject has amazed me. That is why we are and have been in trouble in this country. The narrow minds of some of these posters really scare me.

The present Administration has nearly destroyed the reputation of this country around the world. Mr. Obama is well on track to recover our dignity and our good name. In addition, the mere fact of his newness should hardly be held against him; Mr. Lincoln was a bit green on the national stage, too.

Tellingly, it seems that the electorate disagrees with you. If he is elected President--a long shot, but possible--we will see a change in Washington harking back to the sixties. This may finally be America's chance to shine again.

You really think so? I think that the leaders of the democrats have done their deeds of making us look bad. We were the laughing stock of the world after the Clintons got done with us. The ones who wanted to destroy us were able to work in the open to make plans for our destruction. Democrats admit they want to accept defeat. I say fight on till we win. There is no alterantive except to win. If we lose this war on terror I hope you can get a burqua to fit and that our women will accept being slaves of men and if you don't agree you will get your tongue cut out. Yes, I fear the alternative but I wil fight untill there is only one man left, then I will lay down and rest.

Our country needs a leader more than a motivational speaker.

Let's just keep the same ole farts in office draining our taxpayers by spending $9 billion dollars a month on a war we will never win..better yet if McClain win..we can keep this war going on another 100 years.. this seems so much more cost effective that Obama's plan.

Since the Clintons are using the idea that people are voting for Sen. Obama because "He is such a captivating and intelligent speaker who speaks so passionately of changing the political arena and giving hope to all Americans" might I mention that those are some of the very reasons most people voted for President Clinton in 92

It just shows how short sighted and delusion you are.If you can come up with such nonesense I really dont know why such a repected media outlet like Newsweek still keep paying you. This young man has a plan , agenda and all.If he was of your race you will want to be his campaign manager...Boy just get out of town and wait until we finish running this place.

Give me the unjaded candidate any day of the week over the tired , cynical views of clinton and McCain. Obama may be young but he can and will learn and get stronger and hopefully listen to Americans wishes not some political machine agenda.

I would like to know what outstanding pieces of policy that Hillary has been jamming down the American people's throats that Barack hasn't? Each of them have been campaigning for a year, they've been asked the same questions a million times. For the Hillary supporters who believe that Obama doesn't have any real stands on issues, you haven't done your homework, you've arrived late to the party, and you are the true "sheeps" because you have blindly followed Hillary because her name is Clinton and blatantly ignored Obama and the views he's expressed. The man has given countless interviews, written even more essays, and TWO books. How can you say that you have no idea what he's about? You don't know because you don't want to know. The truth is that he's been forced to focus his stands on certain issues for the sake of running a national campaign, just like everyone else. No one can be all things to all people. He's come from behind, with NO name recognition against a Clinton, a remarkable accomplishment. And he's done it because the more people get to know him, the more they like him, plain and simple. Meanwhile, Hillary's campaign has resorted to (petty) negative attacks because they have nothing else to say. I equate it with a person who curses because they can't express themselves with eloquence or intelligence. He doesn't have the following he has simply because he's a great speaker, there are many great speakers, the American people aren't idiots, for the most part. Although you should remember that the highest educated of us are leaning strongly towards Obama. The people are following him because the old way of doing things hasn't been working and he has expressed his desire to do things differently on a number of issues. We know Hillary, we know the good work she's done, but we also know the mistakes she's made. Obama, from what we know, has a much higher percentage of being right, before it's too late.

If there is something the writer doesnt get, Obama offers this country something thats still considered unique. The world is watching and i have to say that even though Bush is embarassed everyone was asking about Obama on his trip to Africa, thats the reality and thats the same message we are getting from all of Europe. When you speak to the world and the world listens, thats a great start.

As regards to the politics of the US, Obama will elect the best people fit for the post and his cabinet either Republican or Democrat and i bet that will really surprise everyone. Hes going to challenge the senators on live tv and hes going to post the bills online for the American to see. This is not a close door president that we seek...all we want as Americans is the truth, and if the truth is shown in black and white, then we will be ready to make the necessary sacrifice for change.

As regards to the $4000 for college students, they have to volunteer 100hrs in community service, and i bet most of them will volunteer even more once they start. What does that mean? It means that the money is not "free money" as he has often said, and this will not only prevent the free money from Financial Aid that students get, but it will also save the government substancial amount of money having the college students fill some void at the places they will be volunteering at. This is the government we seek. The government of involvement and not of exclusion. Thank you

Deep down Robert you know you wrong or maybe conservative. This change and Obama's ability to make us beleive in ourselves is what America needs right now. Hillary with all her experience can't even run an organized and decisive contest. Expereince is nothing but countless years of the same old thing. We want change, we want something new and yes we can. Ask the millions who have and will vote for OBAMA.

Say that to the red states when they win their states Electoral College votes.

    Hillary...the other white meat.

Comment: I can tell by the tone of this article that the author is anti-Obama. I never considered him as a real candidate but somehow it is relevent now. Most conservatives would be quick to say that the mass majority is being brain washed by some type of hysteria. I can simplify it for those that believe this nonsense and Obama is sweet talking person that has hypnotized americans. The truth is that most average Americans don't trust politicians and the same lines about how long they have been in publis office is actually a drawback. President Bush with all of his so-called experience has put the country in what most might say the worst position its ever been in. So why elect another person with " experience" to continue down the same path. That's what change is.

The problem with the Hillary and McCain is they do sound old and outdated. I was listening to McCain's victory speech and my God, I thought he was either going to kill over right then and there or in once intance, I found myself nodding off. I'm not saying that a president has to have the charisma of Bill Clinton or Obama, but i am saying that they at least have to make me want to be interested in what they have to say for more than a few seconds. And Hillary, she's so tired. You can see it in her face. Mrs Day One needs to get a day of sleep.

So Candy, you're rebuttal is built on the premise that simply because Obama's rhetoric is fresh it has merit. Also, it sounds like you believe that because we can't prove that Obama's words won't really translate into concrete and beneficial actions for all Americans, we have to give him a pass.

And the last argument: that because Bush's handling of our country's issues has been less than stellar means that Obama will do better, is just wishful thinking. I'd love to believe that ANY of the candidates could right this ship in four years. Realistically, I'm not sure which one has the best shot to get us on the right track but simply voting for the guy with the best line is like marrying the guy in the bar with the best pickup line - not a really good idea.

Personally, I don't think it matters whether we elect our Republican or Democrat, in a few years, this country will have to face the piper. We have huge unpaid entitlements and a burgeoning national debt. We have a crumbling infrastructure and even our education system is no longer the darling of the world.

We still have not mobilized the resources to develop an alternative energy strategy and yet we can mobilize resources to run political campaigns and mount wars. Until, we start looking seriously at alternatives to fossil fuels, inflation will continue to rise and the US dollar continues to plunge.

I have not seen one concise proposal from any of the candidates. Nothing that invokes confidence.

I personally would love to see Social Security abolished and put a real spending cap on the budget. Many of you laugh but guess what, Social Security was supposed to be a pay as you go, not a piggy bank and who ever heard of taxing somebody on their taxes. That is what social security is. The government took out a portion of your wages but if you earn a certain amount, you can be taxed up to 100 percent of what they took from you to begin with.

My main question all along has been "Exactly what kind of change do you want?". No one has actually asked that simple question of him, and it would probably be the down-turning point in his campaign if someone actually did. We all have a vague notion of how broken America is, yet the power stays on, most people still have plenty to eat (the rising obesity rates should negate any argument to the contrary), and we still manage to survive in a crazy changing world. I acknowlege there's room for improvment in several areas, but I would hate to think we would fail to ask the question "what kind of changes" just to appease our sense that life is unfair.

Robert, Robert, Robert stop! You have been around Washington and the news media way too long. You are just not getting it. We are so sick and tired of the Bushs, Clintons (who have more baggage that can fill a steamer trunk) and the rest of them who vie with lobbists rather than for the good of the American people and the rest of the world. And you better start listening to the other 6 billion folks if you want to win this war on terrorism

  • Posted By: emmarcee @ 02/20/2008 1:33:49 PM

OK, do you see the pattern?, as we always been trying to scream out loud: Media is playing the game , for Mccaine: They pushed up Barack Husein Obaama (666) and now trying to bring him down before the general election. If they knew these facts why did n't they come up with this before Obama made such headway already, enough to topple Hillary? AND WHERE ARE THE OTHER SIGNIFICANT ISSUES ABOUT HIS AFFILIATIONS AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS RACE? Where is money coming from? They created this hysteria and now trying to pour water over the fire.

I was too young to vote at the time, but did any of you people who are commenting on Obama's experience vote for John F. Kennedy? Before you become critics of Obama, you should ask yourself that question, because Obama has more experience at this point than JFK did when he took the oval office. I'm personally tired of choosing between a Bush and a Clinton. We don't need another 8 years of either one. We need change.
