What strikes me most about your article, Mr Samuelson, is not the supposed delusion of My Obama, but your own delusion.
Like my Obama's life story, what is going on today is REAL and not even people like you can stop it.

Yep, a country full of delusional adults behaving like a "bizarre cult" over Obama: landslide majorities of voters; major newspapers; experienced superdelegates. Robert Samuelson obviously has an agenda here. Otherwise, why include distortions such as the one about plagiarism? The plagiarism accusation was related to Obama's use of lines given to him by his supporter, Governor Patrick, not to similarities between Obama's positions and Hillary's. They're both Democrats, and Obama's voting record is consistent with his expressed positions on the issues. Hillary's is not.

Yes this is the best description of what Mr. Barack Hussain Obama really is: a copy machine with no real. solid, product.
Eliminating the ceiling on the payroll tax would eliminate the Social Security shortfall. I really have no problem raising taxes on people earning over $100,000/year. Yes, Obama waffled on amnesty for illegal immigrants. And yes he has other flaws. This article, however, does not effectivly show them. Why is the US in debt? We cut taxes on the rich. The "Death Tax" falls only on families with millions in the bank- why did this come up as even a topic of debate?
Poorly written and an eye opener to how our perspective can skew our understanding. And do we want a man with the middle name Hussein leading the USA? Did you really ask that question? I think someone once said we should judge people not by the color of their skin but by the content of thier character. Similarly, why are you judging this man by his last name?

This country is in debt because of politicians like Obama, Hillary and McCain carrying out the will of idiots who feel it is the governments responsibility to do everything for them. Our economy is not in the toilet because the government doesn't collect enough taxes, but because it collects TOO MUCH and spends in on worthless programs (education getting any better). You want to tax the rich? What do you think motivates people to start businesses - to be poor? So now you have taken that incentive away? Want to increase corporate taxes - now you have just driven more businesses off-shore? Yeh, that will help the economy...
I don't want somebody singing cumbaya all day long. I want a fighter that will go the extra mile to do what's right. sorry, i don't need the feel good speeches, i need someone that shows me they have the stomach to fight. considering all the media bashing hillary's gone through - it's amazing she's made it this far. out of all the candidates (repubs or dems) she's shown the greatest will to fight. that's what a commander in chief needs to look like.
If you want to know what Hillary will do as c-in-c, go back and study how she and Bill handled terrorism...
At least Kennedy was a womanizer? Obama is an obomanizer. Instead of Marilyn Monroe and the big silver screen, he's got Larry Sinclair and youtube. LOL!
Sorry, I typoed, it is Jeremiah Wright and his version of black-centric separatist Christianity. Look it up. Most American's just want to hear feel-good talk, and close their eyes to reality. Obama let's everyone of the hook, swaying to kumbaya, and feeling hip and cool.
2nd Peter 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness
To find out what Obama believes research Jedediah Wright, his pastor for over 20 years. This guy is an anti-Semitic, Louis Farrakhan booster. For those who don't know, Louis Farrakhan is the head of the Nation of Islam, a Black Muslim group that seeks to overthrow the U.S.A. and impose their version of Islam upon America. Amos 3:3 says: Can two walk together, except they be agreed? Since Obama obviously adores his pastor, and has sat under his preaching for over 20 years, and was married by him, had his two daughters baptized by him, and is a member of his church. Just find out what Jedediah Wright thinks and you got a bead on Barack's true thinking.
I appreciate your point that policy differences are policy differences, and Obama's soaring rhetoric can't change that. But you're leaving out the element of leadership. I believe Obama appeals to the hearts and minds of a broad spectrum of Americans and can bring them around to his view of things--through his intelligence, authenticity, experience, and yes, charisma. Newt Gingrich will never come around, but millions of Americans are more pliable and have had enough of Bush policies coddling the wealthy and ignoring ordinary working-class problems. They are hungry for different solutions--or, as you point out, what may be the same ol' Democratic solutions--but presented by a credible and effective leader with the support of a working majority.
No, people don't just want 'different' solution (communism is 'different' from capitalism), but EFFECTIVE solutions. Obama does not offer this type of solutions. In fact, all he is doing is dragging out dangerous Wilson\FDR policies of governemnt control of people and business. Polices that are no 'different' than anything else the Democrats drag out every election cycle.
Speaking of JFK, he proposed LESS taxes in order to stimulate the economy. Obama want's more.
Also, Kennedy was a womanizer who cheated on his wife every chance he got. And let's not forget Vietnam...
Do you really want to keep comparing Obama to Kennedy?
We have all seen it during the debates, perhaps Obama will have had a few lessons before the one in Texas. Seriously, there has been the comparison to JFK, but John had some military and more political experience. Obama is exciting and charismatic, but I don't need another great orator like Reagan. I need a President who will deliver and who knows how to get it done, not just hoping and dreaming. Thanks for putting this article out...it needs to be front page NEXT WEEK!
The people who say Obama is all talk and no substance OBVIOUSLY haven't done their homework. His work in the State Senate was amazing. Do your research...and this includes the author of the article.
He increased government control over business and personal interests. In other words, he made government BIGGER. So you want us to believe that if elected, Obama will make the Federal governemnt BIGGER and MORE intrusive? Sorry, my paycheck can't afford that...
The "goody bag politics" you disparage are exactly what many Americans need from their government - unlike an unnecessary war that costs a billion dollars every week or more tax cuts for the wealthy or a larger budget deficit or more earmarks or illegal government surveillance. Obama and Clinton at least know that. The Republicans don't. What Obama represents is the possibility of transformative political change that may result in the use of our great national resources and ingenuity for the good of the people. Imagine!
Wrong, when "our government" gives to you and yours, it is only possible if "our government" takes from me and mine. "The government can give us nothing that it hasn't taken away from us in the first place."
Amen! The Purpose of the Bill of Rights - to LIMIT government, not the people. Can we afford another Wilson or FDR?
Just so even conservatives --who often seem to have trouble with elementary arithmetic --get this --that's $10,000 per person, $40,000 for a family of four.
John McCain wants to keep the spigots open indefinitely, running up the costs proprtional every year (perhaps another $2,500 per capita each year) without any tax inccreases.
Oh yeah, that'll work great. The dollar will bounce right back, and the cost of oil will diminish.
Or maybe NOT.
How well will the dolalr be if Obama spends that 3 trillion PLUS another 4 trillions for all of his other 'ideas'?
Finally, a journalist with guts to speak the truth about Obama's shortcomings!
I don't see McCain saving social security or improving the economy while continuing to spend $200 million/day in Iraq... for another 100 years he's ok with.
Hillary and Obama have similar plans, this is true. However, the key difference is who do I believe is able to lead and bring these plans into reality?
Two main points here make Obama that person for me... his ability to inspire and bring people together to listen and work towards solutions, and his work towards transparency and accountability in our gov't.
If Obama is FOR accountability and transparency in gov't:
1) Where are his lobbyist visitor logs
2) Why won'y he reveal the facts about his relationship with an indicted mobster
Obama would pass out from exhaustion if he ever mustered up an original idea. He has developed a masterful stage presence, and that's certainly necessary for a president, but he has yet to develop and communicate a cogent strategy for the nation, other than the same old stuff. We need a president with a firm domestic vision, a sound foriegn policy that respects other nations' sovereignty, and the fortitude and political skills to see it to fruition. That's not Obama, Clinton, McCain, or Huckabee. Once again the American voter is left settling for the least onerous candidate, rather than the best qualified or most capable.
Obama is a person full of hate during his campain. I feel in his deepest heart there is a kind of feeling that is against traditional and modern American value. I am a foreigner. I tell American, be carefull about this dangerous person.
I think that this article is off base, assuming that peope are just hearing and not listening. I would assume that most of your comments are from that tired old generation who never questions why we have a crisis in our economy, energy policies, transportation, housing, military, foreign affairs, and the war on terrorism, may I go on. So it seem that the experience from these "old scholl" politicians will lead us down the same path. A leader is supposed to inspire his country (i.e. Kennedy), not espoused that same old tired rhetoric. John McClain nor Hillary Clinton can draw out the masses of the new generation that will have to lead our country forward. If you want the status quo, go with experience. If you want to move this country forward in the new century, pick a leader who will inspire you.
Finally, an article that probes deeper than Obama's "halleluia" speeches. Speeches and rhetoric alone do not constitute a even-partially-workable means to help some of the crises in America today, like taxes, retirement, classrooms and education, the war, jobs disappearing overseas, the economy in jeopardy, to name just a few. Obama has not in reality brought forth workable plans and unique ideas to solve these very serious problems. He says "change" but how? I think Washington very definitely needs to change, but again, tell me how Obama is planning to do that in a way that does not already strain the economy to the breaking point? Most of his ideas actually DO mirror the status-quo, or are so similar in content to those already being forwarded by others already in Congress, or those running for office.
I am not an anit-Obama voter, nor Hillary-lover, nor a Republican, although McCain has done well in some ways with his time in Congress. I have serious concerns, and disagree with some of their voting, with ALL of the major candidates, but it is to the benefit for each individual to REALLY, DEEPLY look at the whole package (voting record, temperment, skill, individual ideas and programs, etc) and not just personality to choose a candidate to endorse. I admit Obama is uplifting in his speeches, but is his plans able to stand and help America for 4 years? Look deeper, because personality and charisma won't cut it when hard, difficult decision have to be made. Charisma fades when facts are to be faced and America is in a place and time where it is not easy decisions and riding a cloud of idealism. Status quo in Washington does need to change, I agree, but sometimes hard cold reality interferes, and change takes baby steps, but it in the right direction.
Some will get all outraged and call me anti-Obama, or not for change, or whatever. For those who do, tell me this -- write down the way that these candidates will ACTUALLY make change happen, in a way that is realistic, not status quo, not parroting another's ideas, and that will actually be possible in today's Congress. Tell me HOW. Ideals are great-- I believe in ideals-- it gives us hope and something to hold onto-- but America is in dire need of experience for the many facets of problems that are facing each one of us in this desperate time where the economy and the earth itself is changing exponentially. Ideals will not keep America strong, and keep the lower-middle-American man/woman working. And listening to ideal speeches and not probing deeper just might put another Republican, and quite possibly the special interests, back in for another 4 years. Talk about staus quo..... and where will we be then?
