Comment: Hillary Clinton Goofs Again
A Commentary by Dick Morris
Who was it that defined neurosis as repeating the same mistake again and again, and expecting a better outcome each time? That???s really what the Clinton campaign is doing in its post-Chesapeake primary strategy. Now Hillary defines Obama as the candidate who makes speeches, while she is the one who provides ???answers??? and ???solutions.???
Why is Hillary embracing this new line? It???s not that she has any great record of solutions or answers of which to boast, but rather that she wants to highlight Obama???s lack of a legislative record. Once again, she and her campaign geniuses are making the same mistake they made when they decided to use the experience as their defining difference with Obama. It???s not that she had much, but they sensed an opportunity to highlight that he had even less.
Of course experience not only didn???t work. It backfired massively. By co-opting the experience tag, Hillary bought into the status quo and left Obama to be the agent of change. A candidacy that could have excited tens of millions of women, the first serious prospect of a female president, became merely a boring part of the status quo, shorn of its novelty.
Hillary???s claim to be the solution-person won???t work either for the same simple reason: She hasn???t passed any...she hasn???t walked the walk so now she cannot talk the talk.
As a first lady, Hillary???s sole important legislative involvement came during the first two years of her husband???s presidency when she sought to pass her ill-conceived health care reform, an effort that failed so miserably that it cost her party control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. Between 1995 to 1997, she was largely absent from the White House, traveling the world, promoting her best selling book and helping to raise funds. She never attended strategy meetings and her only intervention in the singular legislative achievements of Bill???s administration ??? welfare reform and the balanced budget deal ??? was privately to urge a veto of the former and to oppose the latter because it provided for a cut in the capital gains tax. Hillary returned to the White House in 1998 to oversee the defense to the Lewinsky scandal and the impeachment attempt, but the Clinton administration essentially folded its legislative efforts during those years and hung on for dear life. No portfolio of accomplishments there...
Her only actual legislation included one bill to increase nurse recruitment, another to aid respite time for Alzheimer???s care givers and another to expand veterans??? health benefits, a paltry output for six years??? service.
In her second term, she has spent full-time campaigning for president and has the worst attendance record of the three senators now still in the presidential race.
Thank you marketingtruth, couldn't of said it better myself.
Thankyou. If people REALLY want to know the truth, they'll find it.
You cannot address a citizen of America who is not, nor has not been president of this country the title of "President"
I plan to forward this to every media medium to show your abuse and lack of respect to America!!!!
Under our constitution you can and do call anyone what you like, you can even lie knowing it for a lie. I thought he showed some insight with his byline, but I wonder where he picked his "story" up from, ya think he could be one of those secret forum bloggers we've had to deal with?
I agree: we should stop this "War on Terror." First of all, terrorists are not countries. They cannot wage war. They are mere criminals and calling this a war dignifies them beyond anything they deserve. In reality, it is a manhunt. Secondly, this is not technically a war. Article I Section 8 of the Constitution says that only Congress can declare war. They haven't done so since 1941. Finally, whenever we declare war on an abstract concept, we fail. Think about it: we have declared War on Drugs, War on Cancer, and War on Poverty, but drugs, cancer and poverty still plague us. It seems to me that the best way to end terror is to stop this "war" altogether.
I agree that terrorists are criminals and the 'war' is only a metaphore. One should put the terrorist threat in perspective. In the US there are certainly thousands of criminals who would kill you and there are 16,000 murders every year. Some of them are crackpot extremists who engage in mass murder. We try to deal with this treat in a reasonable manner without sacrificing our freedoms. Clearly, we should do the same with the foreign threats.

This is another brainless writing by Mr. Hirsh, the man that is not aware of the Khmer Rouge, or labor camps in Vietnam. And, he's missed the mark again.
The war on terror was ended by another president; Bill Clinton. Pity the successor to any president that 'ends' it again... and the country that suffers the consequences.

People who complain that Barack Obama lacks experience must be unaware of his legislative achievements. One reason these accomplishments are unfamiliar is that the media have not devoted enough attention to Obama's bills and the effort required to pass them, ignoring impressive, hard evidence of his character and ability.
Since most of Obama's legislation was enacted in Illinois, most of the evidence is found there -- and it has been largely ignored by the media in a kind of Washington snobbery that assumes state legislatures are not to be taken seriously. (Another factor is reporters' fascination with the horse race at the expense of substance that they assume is boring, a fascination that despite being ridiculed for years continues to dominate political journalism.)
Obama has a superb voting record -- he voted with the liberals 96%-97% of the time. I approve of his voting record. But I have reseached his votes and his record; he does not have any legislative achievments -- there's nothing for the media to cover except his voting record. I don't blame him-- it's hard to get bipartisan support to pass laws, and he's not been in the Senate very long. But his strength is how he voted.
The police proved to be Obama's toughest opponent. Legislators tend to quail when cops say things like, "This means we won't be able to protect your children." The police tried to limit the videotaping to confessions, but Obama, knowing that the beatings were most likely to occur during questioning, fought -- successfully -- to keep interrogations included in the required videotaping.
By showing officers that he shared many of their concerns, even going so far as to help pass other legislation they wanted, he was able to quiet the fears of many.
Obama proved persuasive enough that the bill passed both houses of the legislature, the Senate by an incredible 35 to 0. Then he talked Blagojevich into signing the bill, making Illinois the first state to require such videotaping.
Obama didn't stop there. He played a major role in passing many other bills, including the state's first earned-income tax credit to help the working poor and the first ethics and campaign finance law in 25 years (a law a Post story said made Illinois "one of the best in the nation on campaign finance disclosure"). Obama's commitment to ethics continued in the U.S. Senate, where he co-authored the new lobbying reform law that, among its hard-to-sell provisions, requires lawmakers to disclose the names of lobbyists who "bundle" contributions for them.
Taken together, these accomplishments demonstrate that Obama has what Dillard, the Republican state senator, calls a "unique" ability "to deal with extremely complex issues, to reach across the aisle and to deal with diverse people." In other words, Obama's campaign claim that he can persuade us to rise above what divides us is not just rhetoric.
I do not think that a candidate's legislative record is the only measure of presidential potential, simply that Obama's is revealing enough to merit far more attention than it has received. Indeed, the media have been equally delinquent in reporting the legislative achievements of Hillary Clinton and John Edwards, both of whom spent years in the U.S. Senate. The media should compare their legislative records to Obama's, devoting special attention to their heart-and-soul bills and how effective each was in actually making law.
Charles Peters, the founding editor of the Washington Monthly, is president of Understanding Government, a foundation devoted to better government through better reporting.
That is far from true...do more research.

Consider a bill into which Obama clearly put his heart and soul. The problem he wanted to address was that too many confessions, rather than being voluntary, were coerced -- by beating the daylights out of the accused.
Obama proposed requiring that interrogations and confessions be videotaped.
This seemed likely to stop the beatings, but the bill itself aroused immediate opposition. There were Republicans who were automatically tough on crime and Democrats who feared being thought soft on crime. There were death penalty abolitionists, some of whom worried that Obama's bill, by preventing the execution of innocents, would deprive them of their best argument. Vigorous opposition came from the police, too many of whom had become accustomed to using muscle to "solve" crimes. And the incoming governor, Rod Blagojevich, announced that he was against it.
Obama had his work cut out for him.
He responded with an all-out campaign of cajolery. It had not been easy for a Harvard man to become a regular guy to his colleagues. Obama had managed to do so by playing basketball and poker with them and, most of all, by listening to their concerns. Even Republicans came to respect him. One Republican state senator, Kirk Dillard, has said that "Barack had a way both intellectually and in demeanor that defused skeptics."
Here is an Obama fallacy Obama says we must Change the Cast in Washington, because you can't get change with the same old players.
But he also says that he is the only one who can reach out to Republicans and Independents, and be a uniter to get things done.
Well Obama, which is it? Can you only get change by changing the "Cast"? Or, Can you get change by working with the people in Washington now.
Obamas supporters are blind to this obvious incompatibility in Obamas rhetoric.
Obama could say he just drowned a litter of kittens by throwing them over a bridge and his glassy eyed followers would still wildly cheer.
Excellent thoughts, Johnny. In Obama's thinking, though, you have to wipe out EVERYTHING, EVERYBODY then he sets the rules and you play the game he wants it played. That's not uniting; that's destroying.

The "head in the sand" approach to radical/militant Islam will only need to more attacks like 9/11. No, the terrorists have not struck a significant blow since that terrible day in September, but perhaps that is because they are on the run, their communications and command structure disrupted. Your policy would only allow them to regroup and sharpen their plans.
The terrorists must be located, pinned and killed. Until they can be killed, they must be pursued and harried, bloodied at every opportunity.

I believe Obama is the MAN, "war on terror" is the biggest lie ever invented to invade a country and purchase its oil, and the international community? where are you guys?, don´t you forget that Osama bin ladden was bush father partner in afghanistan Russian´s invasion? ando who destroyed the World Trade Center? I can tell you fellows americans, GEORGE W, BUSH!!
READ: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9/11_conspiracy_theories
I thought that George W. Bush was an idiot? How could he pull off the biggest coverup in US history without ANYBODY who was involved spilling the beans? I guess those loyal bushies are even more loyal than we thought. Oh, I know! I bet he had them all killed. He probably had the CIA take them out with those programmable Women-and-Children seeking bombs like we always use in the Middle East.
Read the book....9/11 Commissions
Obama has funneled $700,000 to Superdelegates, more than 3 times as much as Hillary, and almost all of it recently, since superdelegate came into play in the nomination process, and since Obamites has been ranting about the unfairness of superdelegates. Everyone does it , you say, so he just doing the same thing as everyone else. Yes, that 's right, but here's why it matters: Obama's campaign is founded not on policies but on the assertion that he's somehow above politics and he's different from everyone else in Washington. We'll he's not. Yes, he has his own PAC; yes he's received millions; and yes he's paying off superdelegates with one side of his face while he's dissing them with the other side. He's just like all politicians, but even more so.
Oh, and you want a cite. Okay. http://www.capitaleye.org/superdelegates.asp It's the Center for Responsive Politics, not associated with any candidate.
And I'm not trying to persuade any Obama fans -- you can't argue logic to hysterical mobs --- just providing information to any rational people out there who still have the ability to think.
That's really interesting! The only thing I'd like to know is which were done in '06 and which in '08. I see absolutely nothing wrong with contributing to their '06 campaigns. After researching fec.gov, I've found that the Obama contributions happened in '04 and '05 to help the Democrats gain a majority in both the House and the Senate. It seems to me CapitalEye.org needs to separate the two different campaigns ('06 vs '08). I applaud Obama for his generosity to the Democratic Party. Too bad Hillary didn't contribute as much.
And if Obama drowned a litter of kittens I'm sure you'd applaud him for that too.

The "war of terror" w as just a ruse that bush used to get his way and the take advantage of the non partisan, unified feeling the country had after 9-11. Ending it is the only option. Of course we should continue to fight terror, like we should have the whole time its been a problem. Whatever president needs to change the way we go about defending our counrty. Bush's war on terror and unilateral approach has only depleted our resources, human, financial, good will and support among our allies, fear and respect among our enemies. This is the wrong way to fight this battle. Perception means alot - and the way a president acts and goes about framing our goals with regard to other nations directly effects our chances of success.
Continue the fight. Just be smart about it, our current course is not smart.
President Obama - we'll see - people need to get over thier issues with Newsweek and Obama - they will turn on him - The media cant be trusted one way or another

ranchbutcher for President!!! If he is qualified to judge who and who is not ready, then he is qualified to serve.
How long have YOU served in a state legislature?
In all since he entered the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who is supposedly nothing but platitudes and empty rhetoric. During the first (8) eight months of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included the following:
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.
geeeezzz.... Your so-called list is so misleading it's comical. First of all, your "introduced" list is in fact a list of his failures; means he couldn't get bipartisan support to get the job done.
Secondly, your list of co-sponsored bills represents bills that he signed onto, along with dozens of others, after the original sponsors wrote the bills. He did absolutely nothing unique in regard to that list.
Thirdly, let me tell you what he did author and get passed:
The "lobby reform" law requires that when lobbyists feed politicians, they must stand up to eat the food and use their fingers -- no seats and no forks. Everyone in Washington agrees, and as everyone who watched the Christmas parties on TV saw, the banquet spreads were just as expensive and just as elaborate as they ever were.
Next, Exelon spilled nuclear waste into the water in Obama's home state, Illinois. He introduced a bill to supposedly make the public aware of these pubic health threats. Then he agreed and voted for a watered down version that merely allows the so-called watch dogs to decide whether the public should be told about spills-- and that's the version that passed. Also, he voted to give massive loan guarantees to the nuclear power plant operators, which was called one of the worse pieces of legislation by Taxpayers for Common Sense and Citizens against Gov Waste.
Oh, and might I add that during this time. Exelon (the nuclear power plant that spilled waste into the public water) gave Obama $200,000, the largest contribution they had given to any candidate.
I'm not saying he's a bad guy because of this -- he's like all politicians and he's not been in the Senate very long. But he sure as heck has not accomplished anything useful yet.

Obama is also one of the Senators primarily responsible for the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law) and The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law), passed and enacted during the 109th Congress, Obama's first two years in DC, while the Repulicans controlled the Senate. So three major bills sponsored and passed by Obama. It can hardly be insignificant: Hillary has not authored and secured passage of a single important bill in her seven years, despite being a former First Lady and a Senator from a very large state.
So much for the woman of action. If Obama is a lightweight, then Hillary is a flea weight. All talk and she don't talk good.
You simply make things up -- you just flat out make false statements. If an open-minded person wants to know who wrote and secrued passage of federal statutes, they can research the Senate's website or non-technically worded secondary sources.
It's interesting that you can't make a case for any accomplishments by Obama except by denigrating Hillary.
Your criicism of the Nuclear Spill bill is misplaced. It was somewhat watered-down by opposition from Republicans but still has meaningful notification requirements and was a significant improvement over the status quo. Indeed, it was hailed by Hillary Rodham Clinton as such and she signed on as a co-sponsor.
I am so tired of this routine. We have all seen this ad infinitum. Give it a rest already.

You're the one imagining it. Who said anything about surrender? Did you read the article?
If I joined a gang in America; Am I a Terrorist? If I start slapping the stupid people in my life; Am I a Terrorist? If I start stepping on people just to make it to the top, Am I terrorizing them? How do you fight terrorism, that is the question. There are good people abd bad people everywhere in the world, America doesn't have the wealth to fight everyone of them. There are always going to be terrorist organization, I.E. Mafia's, KKK. Crips,Bloods, Latin Kings, They will never take over the world or be a super power because the are more people who won't stand for that crap.
the kkk, crips, bloods, latin kings haven't killed 2,998 civilians in one day like Al Qaeda
you fight terrorism by killing or punishing those who want to kill you.
Punishing people for what they "want?" Ever hear the term "thoughtcrime," Mr. Orwell? You punish people for what they DO, Al Qaeda included.
i thought i implied Al Qaeda did what they did, guess i wasn't clear enough, thanks for the clarification
Actually, you stated it outright, but it wasn't immediately clear that you weren't also advocating the destruction of everyone ELSE who wants to kill us. (Having read more of your posts since, you make more sense than that.)
at the cost of sounding too pre-emptive, to a degree intent can be proven to be a threat
