MADNESS! I pray that Obama, Clinton of McCain, or whoever is our next president will stop the insanity. America and its allies have acted recklessly in recognition of the independence of Kosovo. Of course the Albanian majority of Kosovo deserves self-determination and possibly independence, but to encourage this opens Pandora's box. Now, every ethnic minority around the world can rightly claim precedent and seek, by hook or crook, their independence. This kind of irresponsible policy led us into both World Wars and begs the question, "what ever happen to realism in diplomacy?"

Is the same man who states he will end the war in Iraq the same man threatening "racial riots" if he doesn't get the nomination? How covenient?

Your comment is vague to say the least. Are you talking about Obama and if so, please provide a "link" or proof that Obama said that there will be "racial riots if he doesn't get the nomination"? If you can not do so, then please refrain from spreading this type of baseless, slanderous, fear-mongering rhetoric. In other words, grow up.

        His "surrogates" have implied such.

People who complain that Barack Obama lacks experience must be unaware of his legislative achievements. One reason these accomplishments are unfamiliar is that the media have not devoted enough attention to Obama's bills and the effort required to pass them, ignoring impressive, hard evidence of his character and ability.
Since most of Obama's legislation was enacted in Illinois, most of the evidence is found there -- and it has been largely ignored by the media in a kind of Washington snobbery that assumes state legislatures are not to be taken seriously. (Another factor is reporters' fascination with the horse race at the expense of substance that they assume is boring, a fascination that despite being ridiculed for years continues to dominate political journalism.)

But, remember, Obama won't have us in war. He's going to go TALK to all our enemies right away. And because "when Obama talks, people listen", they'll discuss it and all will be over. That's how it works, remember? It will be just as magical as how HE is going to change Washington. BTW, Obama, the Serbs might want give the Serbs a call later. But, you will have to wait until they're done burning our embassy.

We ask our kids to behave in school and at home. Why not behave as a country and work to help others and not offend anyone. You can't please all the the people all the time, but you can work to piss off as few as possible and build economic wealth. Our country is like a big company with employees, Cash Flow, inventory etc. The problem is, Bush realizes that and has been doing what ever he can to sell his agenda, but at our expense. Level heads and sound judgements will created a stable environment for all of us and improve our reputation abroad. The real threat to us is the extreme religious fanatic that feels our way of life is some sort of sin. If the manpower and money that was spent in Iraq had been used to thwart this real threat, where would we be today?

    Obama cant even spell war!

    • Posted By: Dave in NM @ 02/21/2008 4:03:05 PM

And you can't even spell "can't."

I was about to disagree loudly with Mr. Hirsh until I read on. He's not suggesting that President Obama abandon the hunt for Al Qaeda - he's really suggesting that the hunt be called something else. I'm sick of people claiming that as President, Senator Obama would abandon the war on terror. Of course he wouldn't. Neither, I suspect, would he portray it as the current administration has, as a "war" on every group certain key U.S. allies have problems with. I think he would (will) prosecute it as it should have been prosecuted from the start: an all-out effort to eradicate Al Qaeda, and nothing more. If Mr. Hirsh thinks that effort would be more successful with a different title, so be it. Me, I have no problem calling it a "war on terror." Either way. Sen. Obama's detractors are wrong about the use of military force by an Obama administration (as they are about SO many other things).

So let me get this straight: You mean to suggest that another 9/11 like attack has not occurred because Al-Qaeda is no longer as threatening or as motivated as they once were? Of course there are a host of other dilemmas that we should also keep an eye out for, but we can assume this much: our hyper vigilance, flawed as it is, is MUCH better than it was prior to 9/11. That is why we have not seen another attack of that magnitude and have seen increasing focus on attacks abroad, in countries that might not have the resources that the US has. We are at a crossroads: an Obama might change our course, but we take our eye of Al-Qaeda at our own risk.

When Osama Bin Laden is captured and his organization is politically starved to death and eternal silence, then yes, by all means, end the war on terror.

Michael Hirsh, have you not read any of Barack's writings or heard any of his speeches pertaining to foreign policy? Including his victory speech in Houston which was on all cable news networks.

Thanks, Eyzwidopn, I couldn't have said it better myself. These lies about riots are a weak attempt to through off a message that America is so eagerly wants to hear...Obama already talked about changing the tactics of fighting terrorism.

By the title of this article it has gone too far- to assume Obama has already been named President- shameful and wrong. What is even more so is the media's distortions and lies to influence the public. There should be laws against this- this one of the CHANGES that needs to be made. As for being in IRAQ- we are there- this is not going to change, and if supporters of Obama or Clinton think so they are dumb as wood.
