Comment: the best solution is if the new Pakistani government does not cooaperate with the u.s is to send our U.S troops into pakistan and hunt down those terrorists wether it be airstrikes or ground offensive

Comment: Unfortunate that we have placed all of our American Idealistic Eggs into the proverbial Musharraf basket. If the Pakistani people elected a new leader or leaders? Is that not Democracy in action?
Is Democracy not what our own leaders have touted as most important for every country worldwide? I strongly suspect our idea of Democracy comes with stout strings attached though. The U.S.A. seems to want to run everyone else's political business, but simply does not want to face everyone for face value. We throw money around the world and expect to buy world leaders. Funny, if their people do not want what is in the best of the U.S.A.? What can we do about it? The aid sent to Pakistan is gone!
Bad news for the USA maybe! Back to the drawing board.

Comment: i am extremely depressed on the result of recent election in Pakistan where once again the people voted to the parties and their leaders who have been thrown out twice on the charges of corruptions, plundering, looting and nepotism and their cases are still going on in internation courts. Mr. Sahrief run away from the country under the agreement reached through Saudi government with Mr. Mushraf and was constantly denying it. And now the both corrupt leader have been imposed once again through the votes of masses ignoring the true leadership of Mr. Mushraf who is a man of his words who fullfiled all his promies and last one was free, fair, transparent and peaceful election. In history of Pakistan he was a leader of vision of did a lot for this nation, but nation did not worth it. God help us and Pakistan now.

Comment: With reference to??? We Will Work Together??? By Ron Moreau and Zahid Hussain
There is no other chance left by the PPPP, PML (N) and Asfand Khan,s Awamy party and Musharraf to work together for the solution of country???s problems mainly comprising of security, peace and welfare of the people and delivery of justice.

The emerging two biggest parties have been in power in the past twice but were dismissed on financial charges and after their dismissal there was no strong public resentment. This time they have polled the vote of the general resentment against 8 years rule of bad governance of Msharraf and sympathy of deaths and boycott of others.

In 1970 under the similar circumstances General Agha Muhammad Yahya Khan (later declared usurper) conducted fairer election then the present election of 2008 because he did not has his own political party in the field but at the end he started post poll rigging and deprive the elected representatives to rule the country, with the result Pakistan lost its largest part East Pakistan now Bangladesh).

The new Chief of Army Staff is sincerely withdrawing army personnel???s from civil departments by giving the indication that the army shall no more take part in any politics; that is a healthy sign in our political field.

It was the lawyer???s movement and the Judges steadfastness and particularly justified stand of Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry (CJ) and of Pakistan Bar Association???s most caliber presidents Itizaz Ahsan, Munir A Malik and Justice (retired) Tariq Khan and Mr Kurd who led the campaign for the rule of law. The whole lawyer???s community with support of general public is determined to restore the deposed judges not for the sake of their salaries but for the noble cause of the Rule of Law. This is writing on the walls, the political leaders should read it.

Comment: Pakistan was termed "The world's most dangerous place". It can now be termed as "The world's most resilient nation". Despite years of western supported dictatorship, doses of jihadism, drugs and weapons during fight against Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. Whenever,Pakistanis given a chance to chose their destiny , it foolowed relative peace, tranquilty and ecnomic growth. Again, on February 18, 2008 when Pakistanis got the chance they rose to the occassion. They rejected religious parties, wiped out parties allied with dictator and chose parties whose agenda is democratic, rule of law and moderation. Again Pakistanis are jubialiant, going about the business looking forward towards a better future. Truly, its " The World's Most Resilient Nation". I feel proud being a Pakistani.

Comment: The very thought of using unconstitutional means to promote the interests of US is tribal. While it is popularly quoted that citizens of US as well as US corporations should not conduct business or trade using methods that are considered illegal in the US, I am surprised at how the US government is able to flout all ethical as well as moral code of conduct? It is a shame and possibly the onset of decay for the much touted US supremacy and leadership.

Comment: One of the set-backs often experienced by the propellants of Coupcracy designed to meet special targets under covers, is the danger of the "good dictator", spoiled by unchallenged authority in uniform, assisted by the conveniently supporting police becomes head strong enough to start daring the power responsible for bringing him as the "good dictator", for specific and covert reasons. Bloodless counter-coups in a Coupcratic government being a difficult proposition, short civilian sojourns are provided as the necessary safe transitions. President Musharraf has exactly fallen into such a situation and therefore, is trying to shift into a civilian sojourn. He needs to feel the wind and decide his direction of sail. War against terror has already lost its steam and may soon sublimate into something humane requiring other type of allies.

    Comment: Merlin5x5:

A bad idea would be having isolated idiots like you sitting where the hell ever you are not taking a look at the root cause of disparity in the country. No one's saying land distribution is the only thing that should be on the agenda, education is a must in order to raise the intellects enough in order for them to have a better grasp of their own lives, but trust me, and since u didn't have *** to say about this point, the wealth gap is TOO DAMN WIDE and it needs to be broken down. Land reforms in the past have been rife with corruption and foul play, indeed those of the seventies were leaked to the land holders way before hand allowing them enough time to devise ways of keeping control of most of it (mainly bequeathing their land to all and sundry who cud be controlled and breaking up tracts of land which were basically useless).

This NEEDS to be done in conjunction with everything else as well. Less turmoil? WHo the HELL do you think spreads and fuels the turmoil if not the religiously and culturally segregated political parties? How the hell do you think they win if not by keeping their people solidly against another group of people and ensuring that their party is the only one who can keep things going and in their interest?

PLEASE don't give me a utopian point of view of how parties work for the betterment of their people BLAH BLAH BLAH cuz that has been said and not been done TOO many times for it to make any sense.

Comment: Both Asif Zardari and Nawaz Shariff are known to be corrupt and both are bad for Pakistan. However if the Pakistanis have so voted for them, then they (the Pakistanis) deserve to get whatever they voted for. I only hope that they will not later complain if their politicians plunder the country again. The Pakistanis are making the similar mistake like the Americans who voted Bush for the second term.

    Comment: To LesserMortal,

Why is it that morons think redistributing land to common people will help them? Has this EVER been historically true? Only a City born idiot would think that poor uneducated people can farm, or develop wealth merely with a handout. Only a middle class fool would think that dissapating wealth would help politics.

Redistributing property of ANY kind has only dissapated it. Take a look at the African governments. They wish they now had the infrastructure the colonials left them. Rawanda happened after land reforms, how did that help?

What iraq and Pakistan need, and have always needed, is clear, stable markets, better roads and transportation, and LACK of turmoil. Psuedo reformers like you, simply are selling a BAD IDEA.

Comment: This is all just part of a bigger game. At the end of the day the secrets behind the doors of government will be revealed to these opportunistic thieves who are crying democracy for the cameras right now, and they will be forced to fall in line. They plan to steal even more because none of them have the most important issue: LAND REFORM AND REDISTRIBUTION in order to let wealth trickle down to the masses, on their agenda. 5% of our population holds 95% of the wealth, and hence whatever economic growth may occur will be concentrated in the hands of a mere 5% of the nearly 180 million people.

Make no mistake, the threat of extermism is drowning Pakistani society,. And Musharaf is the only one with enough of a will and less of a personal agenda to take it head on. Zardari is hands down the most corrupt person, politician or otherwise, in Pakistan, and Sharif is the protege of Zia Ul Haq, the dictator credited so rightly with destroying the name of Islam in this country and leaving it over to a pack of rabid senseless barbarians to do with as they please. It is due to policies of his govt that the Islam of Fear was Spawned as a means of social control.

I hope and pray the international community digs deeper into the past records of these leaders of our tainted history, and see where their previous leaderships made us stand, and see if they can truly say that democracy has ever existed in Pakistan. This country needs to be cleaned up a whole lot before we aspire to the Ideals of democracy. And that's a job thats too long overdue, and can never be achieved by a political framework that is divided and broken utterly and completely.
