I think the media needs to butt the he!! out! I'm sick and tired of the media, liberal & conservative & in between, spinning this kind of stuff to death! I'm an Obama supporter, but I think highly of John McCain and I think it's interesting that this issue is coming up now. The press has a responsibiilty to report the news, not spin it. The media has officially become more problematic that the politicians! I'm a liberal democrat and I'm sick to death of this crap. Quit trying to tell us what you think we need to hear.

what does obama, sharpton and jackson have to do with this story? oh...nothing. but whenver a racist comment can be added to a comment board, these type will do it. please go find a white supremacist site to comment on.

Funny....I read comments below, by such pillars of witty commentary as "damilkman"....or "moejoeman"...and shake my head. Doughboy57....you got it right, it's a Republican/Democrat thing, its'a media creation to sell stories. Fact is "DA-Milk-Man" aka The Milk Man, I highly doubt you remember every word or phrase you spewed five years ago either. Oh....I'm sorry, that depends on if you can spell "hold"....I mean "hld"....and who is it who's in-bred? And "moejoeman"...you most certainly got "mojo"....."experienced pack of liars" (at least you spelled it correctly)....Well, let me wave my boney finger at you "I did NOT have sex with that hamster!....er Ms. Lewinsky" Fact is, the media needs to just stick to reporting the issues with each candidate and then smart people (yuck, yuck), can make the decision on their own, without having to involve Jerry Springer.

This is an example of the media trumping a false charge and then trying to hang someone with their legitimate defense. Sheez people, what are you arguing about here?? That McCain talked or did not talk to this man, this woman, this company? Who cares?? If all he did was ask the Committee to ACT on it after 400 days when it normally takes 200---he did an honorable thing. All companies and organizations have lobbyists--the teacher's union, churches, business--they need to someone to intervene and take their case to congressmen and women and get this government leviathan to ACT. The media surround this is sick--there's enough to attack McCain on if you just stick to the issues. The issues facing this country are BIG. What's he going to do about the economy? What's he going to do to solve this problem in Iraq so my thirteen year old son doesn't get drafted someday to fight it?

    • Posted By: western hemlock @ 02/22/2008 5:19:46 PM

I agree completely, UNLESS he only does this for campaign contributors. Otherwise, it's about time someone was able to say no to the "please help me get my item passed". Giving the government a kick in the ___ to get them moving is an appropriate thing for any senator or representative to do.

Kasey, Kasey, Kasey....the Republicans already cast the first stone...you're too late with this sentiment!!!

  • Posted By: stranglerlewis9 @ 02/22/2008 5:18:46 PM

See what I mean? Why would you believe that McCain is holier than now? You guys call him St. John, and McCain loves that kind of bearing that he''s purer than everyone else. Well, that''s the danger when he advertises and promotes himself as purer than everyone else, because none of us are pure and when he runs for president as Mr. Purity and he has a blonde female lobbyist who looks like his wife and sitting next to McCain in a private plane, the plane that belongs to Vicki Iseman''s client, well it all looks pretty bad. It''s like having a backup wife that you''re hanging out with. It''s strange.

You know, this is what I said, Mitt Romney had a clean life. And everybody said, "oh, he''s too clean; oh, he''s too perfect; oh, he''s too slick". Well, here you go. You got your head up your *** on John McCain.

I personally dont know if he is guilty or not who really cares. Its not the first time Republicans have had scandal hell, they have lived with it for years. Democrats are about to same.

His own party wants no parts of him because they claim he is too "liberal". Ok, if they say so. A vote for McCain is a vote for the same BS that has plagued this country for the last 8 years. World War III is not just a speculation, its a guarantee. He is a cowboy just like his predecessor. We dont need another cowboy, we need someone who can really make a complete sentence and not embarass us. We have spent the last 4-5 years as a country being laughed at, look for the laughs to continue with this genius in office. The only way I would vote for McCain would be if God himself came to me and said so, because hell freezing over wont be enought to convince me. As an independent we are out of options its either pray that Huckabee gets the nomination or vote for Obama.

  • Posted By: Patriotess @ 02/22/2008 5:01:37 PM

This is a scandal that McCain will not be able to live down.... The GOP would be better off if he quit his run for the White House.

    • Posted By: tboone @ 02/22/2008 5:15:30 PM

Hold on, I've enjoyed bashing McCain as much as any of the liberal minded posters on this site, but if he resigns, we're left with Huckabee, whose formal education is only baptist seminary, and Romney, who I am confident is comprised only of hair-gel and lies. McCain may be fairly awful, but Republicans could have done a lot worse given their recent history.

  • Posted By: HemiJimmy @ 02/22/2008 4:53:28 PM

John McCain is not now nor has he ever been fit to be president. His only claim to fame is that he is a vet who was a Prisoner of war. Mike Huckabee has a far better record but lacks the funds to run an effective campaign.

What are you talking about brother? Looking at the candidates that are out there he is best of the crop. It appears to everyone that we are not at war, but we are. I believe some credit should be given to GW for us not having another 911. I want a steely eyed guy in charge not a mamby bamby Democrat.

      • Posted By: markmier @ 02/22/2008 5:14:32 PM

Yes, credit should be given to GW, in exactly the same way that credit should be given to this apple on my desk in front of me. It's a magic apple that keeps tigers away. See? There aren't any tigers in my office, it must be working! I give the credit for the lack of tigers in my office to the magic apple, just like I give credit to GW for "preventing" another 9/11.

      • Posted By: whyarentrepubsembarrased @ 02/22/2008 5:12:25 PM

He's steely eyed because he's in a coma.....I think you need to wake up, yourself!

  • Posted By: WMD1969 @ 02/22/2008 5:13:23 PM

goalla2002 you hit the nail right on the head. Guess who made over a dozen trips to the White House between 1993 and 2001, even staying in the Lincoln bedroom on at least one occasion as a personal guest of the President and 1st Lady(!?)? None other than Mr. Kenneth Lay of Enron. Amazing that his chain of corruption and the damage it caused was laid at the feet of the current administration alone, rather than the one who allowed far greater acces for a longer period of time. Look at the dates-'93-2001 was none other than William Jefferson Clinton. No one at the NYT or the WP made mention of that fact. Why? Because it does not suit their agenda.

His own party doesnt want any parts of him because he is to liberal. What is that all about. McCain is just like Bush in another form, same s***, different package. The only way I will vote for McCain is if God himself comes down and tell me to, because hell freezing over just wouldnt be enough. As an independent, there truly is no one left but Obama to vote for. My original vote was going to be for Mitt Romney.

  • Posted By: Rubensr @ 02/22/2008 4:22:25 PM

I guess my mind is made up! This is the same old thing politics as usual, I guess it is time for a change! Obama is the ticket, what have we got to lose, it couldnt get any worse.

Be careful what you wish for...

      • Posted By: wawa8444@hotmail.com @ 02/22/2008 5:09:55 PM

Be careful with Obama. He only tells you what you want to hear. He is clueless as to what government is all about. He does not even know the problems of the people. He is only concern for the rich since he is one of them. Even his wife who is a Harvard graduate admits she does not like her country until the opportunities for her husband are there. Wait and see if and when he gets elected. All you people who thinks that he will be good for you will be very disappointed. The only people who can go the White House will be Jesse jackson and Sharpton. Wise up.

This doesn't surprise me -- what does however is the fact that the Lincoln and Loan scandal hasn't been remembered and the fact that McCain was a part of the Keating five (senators who influenced federal regulators from doing their inspections) -- whereas, Keating (owner of Lincoln Savings & Loan) stole millions and millions of dollars from Investors.

    • Posted By: ara9557 @ 02/22/2008 5:08:36 PM

Old news my friend and I guess that is why the NY paper wrote the story to bring up something that happened many years ago. I guess you do not believe in redemption. A vast number of people know John McCain's story and see that he is not perfect being, but person like us trying his best to get there. John McCain has my deepest respect.

Wow, this is the biggest dirt they can dig up on a guy that has been in politics for as long as John McCain??? So many speculations about Bill Clinton's numerous affairs that proved true with at least one, and yet he continues to be the Dem's 'dream boy' even as a former president. I expect EVERY politician HAS to lobby for someone or some business at some point in their career in order to stay in the game, that doesn't make them the property of that person or business....we don't have a Manchurian Candidate story going here. At least these reporters are trying to give us something other than the Britney Spears (or insert other celeb that I don't care about) escapades! I don't see the smoking gun here, just a liberal controlled media group digging for ANYTHING negative they can possibly find on one of this country's greatest heroes.

Nobody is perfect..we all have things we've done that we wish no one would find out about. It appears digging for dirt is America's way of drowing out a candidate for office. If it;s not cheating, it will be gambling, trying drugs, shoptlifting, avoiding the draft, plagerism, bullying a classmate in grade school, using illegal fireworks, numerous speeding tickets, lying on a job app, etc...etc..The point is, nobody is perfect, judge a man not by some misdoings but by his overall character and accomplishments. Guarantee you that every single President that has held office has done immoral things, that does not mean he is immoral. The one who doesn't sin, please throw the first stone!

Everyone makes mistakes, that's true. If you don't make a mistake, you aren't doing anything! However, lying under oath - PERJURY - is an entirelydifferent matter!! PERJURY is not a mistake - it's a CRIME!! We, the American people, cannot continue to accept the behavior of those who commit crimes, be it perjury, or whatever!!

Boy is it frightening to see how many ignorant Kool-Aid drinking, water-carrying, ditto-heads there are here. You need to stop getting your "news" from Fox. "Why won't NYT or Newsweek cover X story or Y story?" Hmm, maybe they believe in printing things which have some basis in fact. Typical Repugnantcan riposts here--talking points and projecting your own party's sins and crimes onto your opponents. Who has easily fooled ignorant people in their base?! Waving the flag and praising the Lord sure are handy tricks aren't they, Repugs? All the people who keep focusing on the sex aspect and saying "why does everyone focus on sex?" crack me up. Typical hypocrites--if you had a clue at all you'd know the article is about POSSIBLE corruption. Possible, people. My God, if this were about a Democrat you people would be slavering and crying for blood. Oh, and by the way...those comments about the NYT putting Britney on the front page? Who owns the New York Post which does just that, hmmm? Could it be your precious Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox (aka fixed noise)? haahahahahahaa
