    Ps. To people like Chaoszen:
I bother to vote because it makes a difference and right now, the way things look, I'll probably consisder Mccain very carefully if my alternative is just a lot of mouth and no substance. Us older folks are not fooled by fancy speeches and big smiles. We know who works well and hard for what and we know who is good for the country and who is good for nothing. You don't give a three year old the keys to the car.

Fooling us older folks is like taking candy from a baby. We're most succeptible to any scam that comes along.

McCain has a long history of both being a tool for lobbyists and floozy-mongering. In the Iseman scandal, he combines both by being a tool for the lobbyist with whom his campaign workers thought he had a romantic relationship. This is not the first ethical lapse by McCain, nor the first affair. Is this what the Republican Party wants in the Oval Office? After all of their hysteria over Bill Clinton, do they really want a man whose past history of adultery surpasses Bill Clinton's? And do they want another president who, like Bush Jr, is a tool for special-interest and corporate-interest groups? Finally, is anyone with McCain's inability to judge what is ethical and what is not suitable for the Oval Office?

What rubbish. Name me politician that has not spoken to a lobbyist? How about Bill Clinton jet setting with his million dollar buddies who have and continue to buy access through the Clintons. Now that is a story. Now if McCain was selling secrets or giving the Chinese access to missile technology, than I want to know. When this came back on Bill Clinton it was mentioned in the back pages. Why doesn't the NYT see what they can dig up on Obama. Maybe while in college, Obama was in the same study group as a fellow student who was a radical muslim. Wow! Now that would make the front page. I guess when you are the New York times you will reach and grab for anything whether it is right or wrong. Then when you are wrong, the editor can just brush it under the rug after the damage of their story has already been done. I would like to see a study on how many trees they kill in publishing their wreckless and worthless stories. What rubbish!

Wow, something minor that may or may not have happened years ago is a big scandal ... hmmm. Yet admitted drug use by some in the opposition party is really no big deal. Goes to show you which way the media is slanted here. This story was broken by ace cubby reporter Lou Natick. Nyuck nyuck nyuck.

    • Posted By: mark2008 @ 02/22/2008 5:01:43 PM

The current idiot occupant of the White House did a lot of drugs and hasn't even denied it, except to suggest he didn't do it recently. What do you say to that? Half of American teenagers today experiment with drugs. Are they all automatically disqualified from running for office?

Michael Isikoff is and always has been a gutter feeder. he has never presented a relevent storey of his own.

The point is that there IS evidence that points to possible corruption and innapropriate contact with a lobbyist. Is there enough to put John McCain befor an ethics hearing? I do not know if that is the case.
But it IS certain that the looby in question DID contribute 20,000 dollars to John McCains campaign. It IS cetrtain that Senator McCain ACCEPTED transportation from this lobbyist. It IS certain that he personally asked for resloution that was made IN FAVOR of the Lobby in question's interests. It IS certain that MCain's aides stopped a lobbyist from seeing Senator McCain because THEY thought that there might be something inapproprate going on.
If I was a member of the Senate Ethics Committee, The certaintees that I have just mentioned would be enough to call for a hearing, whether he be a Republican OR Democrat.
The certaintees of this matter certainly demand resolution-not muddy denials.
For instance-why have we not heard more from Senator McCain's Aides about WHY they suspected inappropiate contact of the Senator with the lady in question. What led them to stop her from seeing Senator McCain and why is THIS not being pursued by the media?
When something this fishy surfaces the public needs to know what happened from all pointsa of view and should demand that questions left unaswered are satisfied. And because of this-Newsweek and other media have a journalistic obligation to pursue the answers to the circumstances and NOT accept murky "just trust me" answers from Senator McCain.

How does the incident described in this article qualify as saying something about OUR country? This is a report about a potential candidate for President of the United States and his political (shady?) connections. I am not surprised, many sketchy things could have been done in McCain's 70+ years on this earth. The only "sad" thing about this article is that it won't change enough people's perceptions of McCain.

  • Posted By: bigbrewhaha @ 02/22/2008 5:00:36 PM

Uh oh looks like the GOP may have to resurrect romney, what a sad state of affairs.

Another sleeze ball article posted by another sleeze ball oportunist. I used to be a card carrying democrate and wore my Union tee shirt with pride. After yesterday I am still a proud Union member but am switching my party affiliation. Mr. Isikoff, My grandfather, Dad an me are cancelling our Newsweek subscription today. piling on a none storey is pretty classless. i used to love your articles but you are no more the a gutter feeder just like the times.

Obama is being sued by his gay lover and did drugs with this guy lover. I wonder why we have not heard about that? If the news people would just report the news and not take side or slant to one side or an other. That would be great. But they do not. I pray that God will put the right leader in the White House.

So God puts people in the White House, but Satan rules the rest of the world? Your thinking is skewed...Try to breathe deeply and get some help!

Maybe we haven't heard that story because it isn't true! Sounds like just another Swiftboat Slander for Christ.

BTW, God has never picked the President, or any other politician. If some scoundrel gets into office, it is owr own fault.

When when you folks finally figure out that we don't really give a crap what the news media has to say any more. You all have an agenda and it's uaually not a good one.

Let???s see, he favors staying in Iraq for 100 more years, McBush tax cuts for those making over $250 K, chases lobbyist skirts. He has a combination of bad qualities of the past two Presidents that we can do without. My Friends, he???s cooked!

  • Posted By: acktaxman @ 02/22/2008 4:56:10 PM

Candidates don't have to sling mud at each other any more. They have the New York Times to do it for them.

  • Posted By: reader100 @ 02/22/2008 3:12:36 PM

I am a Democrat. But for the first time I will be voting the other way, Republican and for McCain. I am not a McCain fan, and would have preferred the other route, however, as it appears, Obama will most likely be the Democratic nominee and I will not feel secure with his leadership. He has no substance but is a great storyteller. He has no accomplishments to tell under his belt, so he uses great story lines from other speakers who he indicates as "his friends" . If Clinton gets the nomination, I will rethink, however, still not satisfied with the Democratic nominee choices. However, Obama is an emphatic "no" as far as my vote goes, so until the Democrats choose their nominee, I will be voting Republican and for McCain. I do not believe the "smear" gossip, and frankly don't care if it were true. Not a big deal. Let's get on with some real issues that matter. Democrat to cross over

    • Posted By: OBAMA SUPPORTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @ 02/22/2008 3:26:42 PM

You need to stop listening to tag lines and become informed.
Time in the Senate: 1,141 days
      Total bills sponsored: 129
      Total bills past committee: 9
      Total bills enacted: 1
      Total bills cosponsored: 545
      Example bills:
Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006
      The 2007 Government Ethics Bill
The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act
      The 2007 Government Ethics Bill

Also, keep in mind that the republicans had a majority until recently. Furthermore. the democratic majority is so slim that its been next to impossible to pass anything.

Please............ He has no experience where it counts. If he is elected, it will be because he is black and that is all. Most people can't tell you what he has or hasn't done, because he comes out of nowhere to run against one of the most experienced and qualified candidates that we have had in years and if she loses it will be because she is a woman, just as his winning would be because he is black. He has nothing else going for him. Maybe next time!!!!!!!!

        • Posted By: damilkman @ 02/22/2008 4:55:58 PM

Because he's black? Then why didn't Jesse Jackson get elected? Or Alan Keyes...they're black, the last time I checked. They didn't get anywhere. Your comment is a classic self-loathing expose...you're a racist. Deal with it.

      • Posted By: Eronohio @ 02/22/2008 4:10:27 PM

Out of all those bills and other statistics that you have brought up, how many has Hillary Clinton done? Try comparing that to McCain as well. Obama and his supporters love to talk about what he has done (or what he may or may not do, considering he has zero plans about what he will do in office and keeps changing his mind about it), but they are unwilling and even afraid to compare and contrast his record with others. The fear of his campaign and himself of being shown to be transparent is too much for him and you to handle.

    • Posted By: dcusseaux @ 02/22/2008 4:02:34 PM

too bad so sad we won't hate to see you go. a shaky unstable vote would not have stood on it's own anyways.

Reader100: Finally, a person who can think on their own without being influenced by the Obama hype and weak-minded bandwagon his has in tow. These are the same type of people who change their favorite teams depending who looks like they may go all the way or who has the hottest cheerleaders. I commend your flexibility and open-mindedness. I am Republican but would switch to Democrat if someone of credibility would run.

    • Posted By: jlittleb @ 02/22/2008 3:15:45 PM

Just tell the truth, you will not vote for a Black person nor a woman!! It is your perrogative to vote for whom you want to for whatever reasons you have.

The only "holes" in this story are the ones doing the reporting. MSNBC is a joke.

  • Posted By: markrolfes @ 02/22/2008 2:48:04 PM

What is the big deal here? Isn't this part of a Congressman's job? If a constituent is getting caught up in the morass of the Federal bureaucracy, isn't it part of a Congressman's job to make calls and help the constituent wade through it, and help prod them to act?

A congressman does not have the authority to order a staffer to do anything, but hopefully he/she can get their attention. And here is something that was sitting on the FCC's desk for over a year? And all McCain did was ask them to make their ruling, whatever it would be, so his constituent could get the decision, up or down, and then move on with the rest of his life?

    Sorry - no story here.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 02/22/2008 2:51:12 PM

Is it his job to lie about it when asked about it?

      • Posted By: cobaka @ 02/22/2008 4:52:28 PM

An Arizona Senator steps up to help out a Florida constituent? Edmund Burke discoursed on the importance of "Virtual" representation, but this is ridiculous.

  • Posted By: dotshock @ 02/22/2008 2:58:17 PM

Republicans are liars and deceptionists with cesspools for mouths. King of the whiners. They love to talk big and they love to talk pro war, but go to the Congressional records and look up how many of them in Congress actually have military service. The ones, other than McCain, (an exception, but he wasn't good enough to avoid capture) that did enlist, didn't see any frontline action. Republicans are the biggest hypocrits and blow hards the world has seen.

Oh and the person citing the Whitewater fiasco. First of all there was no criminal prosecution because no criminal activity was unearthed; however, George Bush is still under investigation for his insider knowledge and sell off of his stocks in a company he was part of and knew was going down. This is by far and away on a much grander scale than Whitewater, yet these things don't and won't get reported on a Republican. What liberal media? There is none. How can there be. All the major news outlets are owned by rich Republicans.

Take back your country people. This is the time. Its past time for a behavioral change in Washington. We all can make it happen and we all will benefit, not just one party.

    • Posted By: jokraina @ 02/22/2008 3:25:42 PM

It appears your facts are abit amiss. The major networks and news outlets are owned by liberal, Jewish Americans. Your Republicans are liars is a small coment from a small, angry mind. There are liars in all political parties and when the stakes are so high, vying for the highest office in the land, everyone of all parties needs to sit up, pay attention, and do their own investigating. Look up the voting records, the campaign finance contributions, and do deep investigations into their personal lives. Look and see for yourselves the character of these front line politicians.

      • Posted By: ceriman @ 02/22/2008 4:51:52 PM

"Major networks owned by Liberal Jews?" Maybe that's why Rush Limbaugh, Bill OReilly, Michael Savage, Ann Colter, Michelle Malkin, Cal Thomas, Pat Buchannon, etc. can't get any broadcast air time or newspaper articles or books published.... Yea, right... LOL!
When did Rupert Murdoch (owner of Newscorp tabloids, Fox TV and cable, newspapers, radio, magazines) suddenly switch and become a "liberal jew"?
Sarcasm aside, you are far more likely to see a conservative article appear in the "liberal media" than to see a liberal article in the "conservative media".

Can we have one single Presidential campaign without the mud slinging? Every President and Presidential candidate has skeletons in their closets. Yes, EVEN OBAMA has some. Give it time, reporters will keep digging as long as he's in politics and report anything they can find even if it isn???t true or if it???s completely inconsequential. If the press is going to sling mud at McCain, I think they need to do equal justice to Obama and Hillary. Where are the news stories about associations with slumlords and Whitewater? It's amazing how credible the NY Times is all of a sudden. Wasn't it just a few years ago a certain NY Times reporter named Jayson Blair was busted for fabricating and plagiarizing numerous stories that his editors of ???high integrity??? approved over and over? Enough with the mud slinging, I want to hear what the candidates are going to do about the economy, the war, the environment, etc. I'm an independent and at this point the only place anyone is going to actually get the truth is by looking up each candidate's voting record, not through tabloid journalism, partisan reporting (both sides do it) and listing to the hardcore liberals and conservatives (or as we independents call them, ???nutcases???). The hardcore party faithful of both parties and biased media (either way) are what is wrong with politics in this country and I don't take a word of what either side or any reporter says seriously because it is so biased in their own opinion, not fact. Voting records don???t lie, people do.
