    BryanDB:

Though the NY Times did indeed initiate this article, this particular article we are talking about is from Newsweek. Unless you are insinuating that Newsweek too is losing circulation and will do essentially anything for press coverage, you are very misinformed my friend.

Everything Newsweek wrote is Documented. Repubniks can't handle the truth

Hmmmmm...Is it a smear if all of the allegations turn out to be true and McCain has been lying to the American people all along?

    Just wondering.

Lie about what? Where is the blue *** stained dress?. Hellll, lie to a grand jury, and a half a dozen other courts. The democrats take all this in stride. It is a daily occurence for them.

Senator McCain's record has been OUT THERE all along. Maybe most on this board are not old enough
t o remember the Savings and Loan Debacle of the 80's. I certainly do. REmember the Keating 5.

Obama is the greatest candidate we have ever had that has absolutely no clue in regards to what he's doing. He's the Eddie Murphy character from "The Distinguished Gentleman" when he makes a speach.

  • Posted By: dweckster @ 02/22/2008 4:22:42 PM

Hey Mike I., you have parse what McCain said in his denial: ""No representative of Paxson or Alcalde & Fay personally asked Senator McCain to send a letter to the FCC." The quote in your article from his prior deposition says McCain spoke with Paxson, and not that anyone "personally" asked him "to send a letter to the FCC." That's leaving open a lot of wiggle room, i.e., they could have asked" "Can you help, can you make a contact?" without literally asking for a letter to be physically written. Or maybe someone didn't "personally" ask McCain, but "impersonally" (through another channel?).

How long before the Times starts featuring Britney and Lindsey on the front page? Actually, I really don't mean to degrade the National Inquirer, they actually have facts in their articles.

Natalie Rosen-I would hardly comment that they ooze through and through with slime when the Deomcratic party still gives voice to Ted Kennedy. Did you morons ever stop to think about unity instead of bashing? Perhaps the biggest detractor to split the party would be the Kennedys supporting Obama. Is it really support for him or an anti-Clinton posture? There's your slime for you.

When I heard that the NYT were bringing up improper relationship issues I really wasn't interested, but when it shifted to a clear misstatement on whether he'd had any contact with Mr. Paxson, my interest changed. I think the issue should be why a man trying to reform campaign finance would fly on corporate jets and take $20,000 from a man who was obviously seeking his favor? And why his campaign would make a blanket statement that he'd never spoken to Paxson personally, when that information is clearly contradicted in a sworn statement by McCain himself? Someone should get fired. Maybe it's McCain. Do you think Mitt Romney is at home banging his head against his multi-million dollar wall right now?

Did any of you read the article you are commenting on? None of the comments made thus far have anything to do with the subject of the article...

I guess my mind is made up! This is politics as usual, it is time for a change! Obama is the ticket, what have we got to lose? it couldnt get any worse than it is.

Greg1234,,,You prersent a good arguement but you don't go far enough. All that you said is true, if this story is true, than McCain lied about talkibg to Paxton, and that is the real problem.. Do you four more years of a lying President and Administration. I knows I don't!

  • Posted By: ara9557 @ 02/22/2008 4:19:19 PM

This story is all about nothing? Did he do something illegal or not? The position that the NY paper and this newspaper writer is that John McCain knew lobbyist and therefore he did business for them. I don't see any proof that is the case. Now, they talk about facts that are many years old and they have had the time to dissect it and go over the transcripts of what John McCain said. I put to anyone if they can remember every meeting, every flight and every conversation that they have had from last couple of years and remember every detail. Come on this is weak! Let's move on to more pressing issues. Sounds to me that some papers have an agenda.

  • Posted By: meowslitterbox @ 02/22/2008 4:18:48 PM

If it was such an important story, why did the NYTimes wait til now to run it? They had it on their desk in December, and they have had no additional sources confirm or deny it. I'm disappointed that the rumors of what 2 staffers think MIGHT have happened once, years ago, are all of a sudden headline news.

To "steelcactus"...........boy are you an idiot! All I can do is shake my head and laugh at people like you. I'm sure you're makin your house payments, puttin fuel in your vehicle, payin your bills, goin out to eat, etc. etc. etc. And probably still able to buy things you need and want. Why don't you just move to any other country in the world....See how you like that. Wake up and enjoy life while your here instead of bitchin about it!

Get over it! We need to concentrate on issues important to the US such as healthcare and the war in Iraq. I am an independent voter--not prejudiced in McCains favor necessarily. Just think investigative reporters want corruption stories and do their best to keep these kinds of stories going. If McCain didn't ask for a favorable ruling from the FCC then it seems overblown to me.

I agree with Arentrepubsembarrased comment entirely without question. The Republican party the party of morality is utterly, deeply, hugely entrenched in corruption both sexual and monetary. Through and through they simply oooze slime. No wonder Obama draws such humongous crowds. The little guy is simply begging for better government. The Republican hypocrisy is simply utterly STAGGERING!

    • Posted By: charlie'shorse222 @ 02/22/2008 4:17:18 PM

Obama's vast experience is that of a lawyer who's job it was to keep a slum lord in Chicago, out of jail and yes that is a proven fact!!

  • Posted By: thatwasme @ 02/22/2008 4:17:15 PM

Sam Huff. Bill Clinton? Which rumor? groping Kathleen Willey, Raping Juanita Broderrick or exposing himself to Paula Jones?

  • Posted By: dzimmer382 @ 02/22/2008 4:17:05 PM

Steelcactus, it sounds lioke you need something to do with your life. I am a die-hard republican, but I am no fool. Don't believe for a second that McCain is going to have the backing of the conservative republicans. No matter what Rush says. We know that we could put a Democrat, as long as it is not Hill-Billy, in the whitehouse and take over congress in the nest few years. The Democrats are no different than the Republicans at this moment in time. If you think that, then you need to go out in your back yard and find a stone to unearth. All you want is more money to fuel some pointless venture. Clean air, taxes are going to solve it? Clean water, taxes are going to solve it? Cleaner buring fuels, taxes are going to solve it? Let's do damage together. Only oil from North America, yes open ujp Anwar driling. Money not going to the Arabs will cause a collapse in the middle-east. McCain, Huckabee (Huckleberry Hound), Ron Paul are all out in left field.

It is interesting to read the comments here: Some of you say things that "suggest" or it "appears" that immoral behavior or some illegality has taken place. Whether it is in criminal or civil court, there must be preponderance of fact (evidence) to come to a guilty conclusion. It's clear that those who use these words are basing it on a "feeling". Because they dislike Mr. McCain politically, they want you and I to believe he is not worthy of leading our country. If this is their best shot, they should take up another sport.

I haven't made the decision on who I will support in the general election in November. Consequently, I put petty innuendos aside. I hope that everyone else does as well. While it is clear that Mr. McCain considered Ms. Iseman a friend (his words), there is no "smoking gun" that clearly indicates that he did anything wrong.

What is wrong is that all lobbyist have way to much access to our polititians. I have no real issue with lobbyist. They have their place in the political process. However,in my opinion, only individuals should make campaign contributions. Contributions from corporations, lobbyist, etc. should only be made to the political party of their choice (be it local, state or national).

What is clear is that the far-left-wing media is looking for any way to trample on the Republican challenger. That has been their history. They never give clear, concise facts. They only give "suggestions" and publish things in a manner that gives the "appearance" of something wrong (the old "where there's smoke, there's fire" theory). This DOES NOT HELP THE ELECTION PROCESS! Some of you have brought up the perfect example: Bill Clinton. I have no doubt that Mr. Clinton had affairs other than Monica (albeit it never has been proven). But it didn't change my opinion of him. While I didn't care for him personally,(because of his lack of morals) he was a pretty good president. Further, the Rebublicans should have never brought that up - although we all know it was to (hopefully) force his hand on the "scandals" of his administration. We all know what a waste of time and money that was.

It seems the hard-left and hard-right wingers will never learn. We should all focus on the candidate, their stance on the issues that are important to us and our belief in their ability to lead. This other petty crap is just that.... CRAP.
