The fact is, if Vicki Iseman was a man, it would not have evoked this degree of attention. Interaction between a lobbyist and a presidential candidate? Shocking. This article crosses a sacred line in journalism. It is, at best, poor judgment; at worst, partisanship. I'm disheartened by the mentality of our nation that subjugates a woman's presence to suspect of being something "intimate" rather than being warranted by profession.

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum/Convention...

The real head that should roll is Bill Keller. Shame on you for printing what amounts to gossip. Not very honorable or professional. You did say you had a degree in journalism didn't you?

I don't see the problem here. McCain is just beinf a Republican and everyone knowsa that after almost eight terrible years o0f George Bush and Dick Cheney and the lot of them that no Republican can be trusted. They are all curerupt and can not be tructed to do what is right for the American People. They only care about their BIG BUSINESS cronies and what they can do for them. Again we are snake-bit by Reagenism.

Obama did cocan with a gay lover that he picked up in a bar. This is around the same time as McCains thing may have happened. The Pbama's gay lover is sueing him. I wonder why MSN has not pick that story up? It is a REAL story. They may have to do some REAL reporting. I pray God will put the right Leader in the White House. It is going to be a long summer...

Lets bring up the Obama /Campaign donor/shady land deal to expand mansion/questionable source of funds issue again to balance out the sides. the problem is that Mccain's issue does not cancel out Obamas issue as it seems to be more serious due to his possible benefit from this donor and his funds. it is out of the realm of "ordinary politics" classification and into the questionable ethics and profits.

Why was this seemingly swept under the rug and no coverage has been dedicated to this subject? Obama is a media darling that has won the media beauty contest not to mention his totally lefty liberal orientation which makes no concession to the moderate. Well nothing can make me vote for him or subscribe (or even read )to theNYT.

idiot it was explained that's why it 's a non-issue. THERE IS NO STORY!! The law firm Senator Obama work for already went on record and said that he only did about five hours of work for a non profit organziation that happen to have been doing business with Rezko.

      • Posted By: dcusseaux @ 02/22/2008 3:45:59 PM

yeah idiot it was already explained. Leave it to a devisive stooge from Miami to try and push some garbage.

    • Posted By: sunnycat @ 02/22/2008 1:43:57 PM

Love to hear more about the side of Obama we are not priviledged to. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the real story out there?

    • Posted By: B4Real @ 02/22/2008 1:43:17 PM

idiot it was explained that's the reason it's not in the media.

  • Posted By: mahansen @ 02/22/2008 3:43:12 PM

It's the violation of Ethics as a Senator that matters - not the personal side
The personal aspect of this story is not as critical at this juncture, as is the possible ethics violations that are revealed in the NYT story - Clinton was impeached for lying about sex - This is a lot more serious, and should not be just let go, when this man could ultimately become president. NYT has a responsibility, not just to their readers, but to the country to follow through with this.

He should not be allowed to just do the "I DID NOT have sex with THAT woman" line, even though, that is not what is important in this whole expose....

I'm tired of people saying that Obama doesn't stand for anything. About 10 seconds of looking on his website brings up "The Blueprint For Change." 64 pages!
    http://www.barackobama.com/issues/
Sounds like a plan to me!

    • Posted By: yourstruly666 @ 02/22/2008 3:22:39 PM

      Markmier,

For me it is not that he doesn't stand for anything that scares me. It is that what he does stand for is left of Lenin. He keeps promising to give, give, give--tuition to college kids, tax exemption to Seniors. He must be the world's wealthiest man by far to offer so much to so many! But wait he is saying "America should give you---- and -----" I only know that when a politician talks like that he is planning on taking from "me and mine" and giving to "you and yours" (or visa a versa).
"The Government can never give you (us) anything that it didn't take away from you (us) first."

Barak Hussein Obama is LEFT OF LENIN!!!!!!!!

      BEWARE AMERICA!!!!!!!

      • Posted By: DemInMissoula @ 02/22/2008 3:39:37 PM

Pulling out of Iraq will bring a lot of money back home. Repealing the Bush tax cuts on the high class will bring a lot of money in. $4000/year isn't much for college tuition, and students have to work for it, and this is the first I've heard of tax exemptions to seniors. He's also not for Hillarycare because that would tie up too much of the budget (think Medicare and Soc. Security!).
        Research before you post, please.

Nice that you threw in the "Hussein" remark, fear-mongorer. What's McCain's middle name?

i wonder if John Mc Cain has second thoughts about his mc Cain Feingold now that a newspaper article is doing to him exactly what the critics of the bilo said would happen that it reigned in the people but allowed the "NEWS" people to put any spin or report any story with little or no consequences. kind of reminds me of the Bush - draft dodge articles that brought down a prominent anchorman!!!!! i hope Mc cain realizes that the constitutional issues involved in that bill may cost him dearly.

I am a Democrat. But for the first time I will be voting the other way, Republican and for McCain. I am not a McCain fan, and would have preferred the other route, however, as it appears, Obama will most likely be the Democratic nominee and I will not feel secure with his leadership. He has no substance but is a great storyteller. He has no accomplishments to tell under his belt, so he uses great story lines from other speakers who he indicates as "his friends" . If Clinton gets the nomination, I will rethink, however, still not satisfied with the Democratic nominee choices. However, Obama is an emphatic "no" as far as my vote goes, so until the Democrats choose their nominee, I will be voting Republican and for McCain. I do not believe the "smear" gossip, and frankly don't care if it were true. Not a big deal. Let's get on with some real issues that matter. Democrat to cross over

The NYT is afraid of McCain.
Next they'll ask him to deny that he still beats his wife!

  • Posted By: mouseinboots @ 02/22/2008 12:46:11 PM

This was relevant in 2002 not in 2008!! If I were McCain I would not even acknowledge this 6 year old trash. All this junk is just an attempt to slow down his progress in the race, just a bump in the road. It seems the only canidates taht make the news are McClain and Clinton and it's all just irrevelant trash put out the osama camp.

    • Posted By: jesuisq @ 02/22/2008 1:01:58 PM

What does Osama have to do with it? Do you mean the terrorist or are you talking about Obama? Either way neither one has control of the Times, I don't think. Why is it, everytime there is a news story, factual or not, people crawl out of the woodwork to attach it to their least favorite candidate? I don't think anyone suggested to the Times to run this story. Not Obama, Clinton, or Huckabee. The Times can screw up on their own without some one elses direction.

      • Posted By: quixel4321 @ 02/22/2008 1:30:23 PM

Yes it was proded and helped by people with an agenda to smear one candidate and help another candidate,Obama .If you are that naive to not realize that you are living in lala land

        • Posted By: Bullwinkle @ 02/22/2008 3:40:56 PM

Now that's paranoia like no one would believe! I beg to differ -- the person with the MOST to gain in this case is Huckabee! Why do you think he has stayed in the race against all odds -- hanging on after everyone else called it quits? He's even said, "You never know when there'll be a bombshell! Think about it! If someone had the nerve to approach one of the largest newspapers in the country -- regardless of the method -- to try to get them to print such a story, THAT person would be the next story! Newspapers only exist to sell more newspapers! That you can believe!

  • Posted By: Medge @ 02/22/2008 3:23:55 PM

The NYT article suggests that McCain's relationship with lobbyists and corrupt business men goes back for decades. He is not fit to be president on the grounds of corrupt ethical values.

    • Posted By: jlittleb @ 02/22/2008 3:40:14 PM

I guess that would really eliminate everyone. If we look hard enough, we can find some "dirt" on anyone. No one has lived a perfect life. By the way I am a Democrat but I am a HUMAN first .

  • Posted By: RVQueen57 @ 02/22/2008 2:50:07 PM

Barack Obama is not a Muslim, If people read before making remarks they know nothing about they'd know he is of a christan faith and goes to church not of a muslim faith. Get your information straight before writting muck that holds no truth!! I am so sick and tired of these mealy mouth people who let untrue facts flow from their mouths. FACT first then write your feelings! I feel alot of predjudice flowing in the american air and this is how wars start with folks such as yourself! This is one vote I'm ready to place knowing it's right, Obama Barack is the reason I finally want to vote!!

    • Posted By: Kirche @ 02/22/2008 3:03:11 PM

Would it be a problem if Obama WAS a Muslim? Where in the Constitution does it say that we cannot elect a Muslim as president? I, for one and like many, do not care what a candidate's choice of faith is.

      • Posted By: damilkman @ 02/22/2008 3:39:50 PM

Unfortunately, for many in America, being a Muslim would be an issue. That's why the Repugnican machine will try to paint him as such in the general election. Our leaders are chosen based on lies. Either lies that bolster a candidate or lies that scuttle a candidate. And at the end of the day, you get incompetent boobs like George Bush and his cadre of greedy corporatists taking tax payer's money and lining their pockets by waging war on behalf of our country's aristocracy. Islamo-fascists, my butt. I don't worry about dudes living in caves on the other side of the world. I worry about the fascists that run our country ten-fold. McCain is just one of 'em and to think otherwise of this "honorable man" is to deny the obvious, or evidence of a lobotomy.

  • Posted By: bigbrewhaha @ 02/22/2008 3:38:50 PM

Uh Oh looks like the GOP may have to resurrect romney.

  • Posted By: mdkp @ 02/22/2008 3:38:08 PM

To emulate the great quote by FDR on FEAR, modern times, thus, prompt us to imagine that "CA CON-servative has nothing to fear but the so called any conservative himself, quite frequently himself."
Most of us know McCain is human and makes errors, but do not confuse it with claiming Honor and Pride (blah blah) etc. to project an image of straightforwardness. That is a misguided attempt to misguide America. Just be human, and humble.

  • Posted By: Ky!e3 @ 02/22/2008 3:00:24 PM

Agreed. When did Newsweek become a tabloid?

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 02/22/2008 3:12:29 PM

      It hasn't.

      • Posted By: Ky!e3 @ 02/22/2008 3:37:31 PM

Well it's harder to tell on some days than others. I'm not even a McCain supporter. But I'm tired of what I percieve as news organizations finding which way the wind is blowing. And reporting against it. McCain is ahead, we need to cut him down a notch! McCains a liar! Obama on a winning streak, we need to find something... Obama's not GOD, he's just an effective politician!

Got sell those ads man! Nobody wants to read about why the winner *should* be winning!

  • Posted By: kevinturner01 @ 02/22/2008 3:35:00 PM

Everything else notwithstanding, I am totally amazed at how the press and the pundits represented this last night. After reading the original article today and then this article, I am just amazed at their reaction. Treating the NYTimes like they committed a crime. The pundits need to read the article again. Take this articles facts and then ask about this man and what it means. He could be our next president.
