Why are you wasting space on this when there are so many more things to report about. Are we all just dying to here about someone cheating on their wife or using famous quotes from previous speeches to support their speech that they are giving. By the way the person who said "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" was Winston Churchill. So let's get on with life and from now on polygraph all canidates or better yet send them to the CIA for interrogation prior to running, then we would not have to waste our time hearing about it and can focus on the real items they stand for. Oh by the way did they ever find the hidden passages that JFK used to bring in his mistresses in the White House? Enough!!!

I think McCain will be elected. It has already been decided by Israel and Senator Leiberman has already received the orders from the Motherland (Israel) to deliver the goods. The media will do the rest. McCain's mission will be to fight Israel's wars for them with American lives and money. All they need to do is to package him in the media for the next 8 months and it's a done deal.

This is old news its been investigated, bringing it up now is just an attempt to smear the name of our next president.

Everything else notwithstanding, I am totally amazed at how the press and the pundits represented this last night. After reading the original article today and then this article, I am just amazed at their reaction. Treating the NYTimes like they committed a crime. The pundits need to read the article again. Take this articles facts and then ask about this man and what it means. He could be our next president.

Are you people nuts? I have a real hard time getting past the second paragraph of this rediculous article. First it is quite obvious Michael Isikoff failed to read the letters McCain wrote. In them he made it very clear that he was not trying to push the FCC into favorable action for this lobbyist, he just wanted the FCC to do something-anything. Like most government organizations they had sat on their thumbs for years without making a decision. Then lets not forgfet about the other documents which showed John McCain did NOT side with any of the companies the lobbyist was representing. I guess the facts must have confused all you ignorant, illiterate buffoons.

Drop this story already and apologize to McCain. You've already cleared McCain's name in this story when you quoted him as saying:
McCain: "That he had applied to purchase this station and that he wanted to purchase it. And that there had been a numerous year delay with the FCC reaching a decision. And he wanted their approval very bad for purposes of his business. I said, 'I would be glad to write a letter asking them to act, but I will not write a letter, I cannot write a letter asking them to approve or deny, because then that would be an interference in their activities. I think everybody is entitled to a decision. But I can't ask for a favorable disposition for you'."

Clearly shows no favorism. Didn't write or act on what the lobbyist was asking from him.

Why should the story be dropped? The Senator lied and got caught by his own words! Take off the rose colored republican glasses, drop the hollier than thou attitude, and admit that he erred in judgement. This attitude that we republicans can't do any wrong is what got us into this democratic backlash that we are facing now. If we standup to our faults as a party and admit our guilts then and only then we will be able to achieve respect and victory.

About 98% of the time, when I ask my kids a question I already know the answer. When McCain was asked about the flights he took for this lobbyist, he should have known that the answer was already out there somewhere. McCain is hoping we will all look the other way and not ask questions about this non-affair. There is more out there you can bet money on it. By saying nothing inappropriate happened does not make it a fact. Just ask Hillary.

Doens't it seem odd this came out after Michelle Obamas comment about not being proud to be an American until now. I guess all the other thingsAmericans have fought for, died fo,r black, white and all other races through the years means nothing!?

he NYT is doing its job and should continue it for ALL persons seeking and in public office. The candidates and their handlers will never agree that it is fair. Their supporters, Dems and Republicans, will scream and shout and always claim bias. REPORT, REPORT, REPORT. That is the best service the press can do for the American people.

    • Posted By: dgbrown1 @ 02/22/2008 3:30:17 PM

Hey mexed: The NYT and their ilk scream like a cut monkey if anybody suggests that they REPORT the news and not editorialize on the front page. The guarantee of a free press by the constitution is and always be one of the most important parts of that work of art turned out by the founding fathers. But the news media, especially the NYT and their sister newspapers take a lot of liberties with it and are never held accountable because of the aforementioned screaming. The operative word is REPORT. Also, their editors should go back to journalism school and start over.

There are thousands of "stalled" bills being held hostage in Congress. The actual corruption is within COngress for "stalling" these bills that need to go to floor and receive an up or down vote. If Senator McCain called and asked what was going on with the bill and urged them to vote on it, I see nothing morally or ethically wrong with this action.
What I find utterly amazing is that 40 people mysteriously died during the Clinton's ascent to power and you are not digging and exposing how they died, why they died, and why so many associated with the Clinton's? Those are serious, albeit deadly allegations and the people really want the answers to these questions.
Hillary Clinton was not a resident of NY when she ran for New York Senator. What is the exact time line for her move to New York, her establishing candidacy requirements in order to be eligible to run?
I ran for House of Delegates in WV and had to be a confirmed resident of the state for 3 years before being eligible to run. Why aren't you focusing on this and exposing this? Was her New York Senatorial Stint a complete fraud?
The public also wants to know a blow by blow of exactly how McCain, Huckabee, Clinton, and Obama voted on all the issues. Publish that and expose where they really stand on issues.
Barak Obama may or may not have strong ties to Muslim groups. Is Louis Farrakan one of his supporters? It appears Oprah WInfrey only donated $2500 to his campaign.
We need a complete, publicized accounting of every financial contribution made to each candidates campaign.
I put no credence in what any of these candidates says. Their political rhetoric means nothing.
Let's see their voting records, their campaign contributions reports, and down to the finest spec of dust, let's examine their lives, all of them, not one of them, all of them down to the finest detail.
Let's also put the quesitons to the public: Do you want to know these things?
How do you suggest America go about ending the war in Iraq?
How do we decrease the size and power of government and put the power back into the hands of the people?
It seems to me the New York Times Article should have been much more stringent on doing their research before going public with such inflamatory information. It also seems that if you want to go after McCain for making a phone call, you really need to go after Hillary for her gross abuses of power. You need to go after Obama and make sure there are absolutely no Muslim extremist ties to his campaign or life. If there are, 911 will seem like a child's fairy tale compared to what will happen to America should Obama prove to support Muslim views.
Please wake up and start doing your job with diligence and professionalism, without bias. Go for the truth and you won't go wrong. People will trust your reporting.

Oprah has only donated $2300 to the Obama campaign, which is the maximum an individual can donate. The Farrakhan link to Obama is weak, at best. Close to non-existent - but somehow they are both linked to Kevin Bacon...
For the complete contributions made to each campaign, check FEC.gov.
For a complete record of their votes and bills each candidate has sponsored, check Thomas.gov.
I'm sure the reason Newsweek doesn't report each vote that each candidate makes is because 1. The information is available elsewhere, and 2. nobody would buy/read Newsweek because it would be boring.

Well, if this is true it should please the so-called "conservatives" as it shows he at least partly shares their penchant for hypocrisy and lack of integrity.

It is like the famous "I did not have sex with that womane.". Regardless of whether or not he had any romatic relationship with that woman, McCaine's blanket denial about even having converstions with his aids will come bakc and bite him. That wansn't smart move. Bill Clinton did not know there was a blue dress with stain with his DNA when he made that categorical denial.
