John Mccain was a hero, he is now a traitor, liar and a Demo-Rat trying to act Republican,,,,,,,He has nobody fooled, if we are going to get a Democrate I will, "Keep it Real", and vote for a real, true Democrate.........Mccain has blocked permanate tax cuts, the death tax, true borders, conservative judges and free speech. He turned his back on our Troops and the American People, saying water boarding is torture, really, of all people he should know, torturing is, breaking arms, teeth, pulling toe nails, starvation, deprivation. and what does Mccain do, turn "Pansy", and say water boarding is torture, he cares not that it would save Americans harm, this communist, terrorist sympathizer is a KOOK....

HOW MANY YEARS DIDMYOU SPEND AS POW??????????????????????

      • Posted By: douglassoileau @ 02/22/2008 3:24:56 PM

waterboarding/pow may i remind you that when we say the enemy we could shoot and kill them and not have our soldiers tried in court for murder like they are now..........being a pow does not make one president material, (air police), as you well know, mccain has the "stockhom syndrome". Mccain is not fit to serve as a republican but sure would make a great democrat - just like a broom stick, nothing is required but to be present and collect dust.............

May I remind you that Japanese war criminals were executed for using waterboarding during WW11..

while comments about race or gender (obama~clinton) can't be made, why is it all you hear are comments on mccains age! isn't that discriminations also?

  • Posted By: dadfife @ 02/22/2008 3:23:10 PM

It seems strange that if all this has been so negative but did not appear until McCain is the likely unbeatable Republican nominee. It would appear one of the others running for the nomination would have run with this story themselves. Curious happenss

  • Posted By: caprpicorn7 @ 02/22/2008 2:54:17 PM

dear winthrop888 : what is so questionable about Mr. obama"s roots? you wouldn't be a racist would you?

    • Posted By: lucyfly @ 02/22/2008 2:59:48 PM

Oh yes, that is an intelligent response!! Does this mean now that if someone is of a different race we cannot criticize their ideas and agenda; which in this case happens to be socialist.?? I don't care what color someone is, if I don't agree with the direction they plan to take the country I will speak out against it. It is a pretty sorry state of affairs when we have people running of the cliff of "Obama" like a bunce of lemings just so they can vote for the first black president. If you ask some of these people what Obama's political ideology is they often really don't know. Come on! Change can be bad as well as good. Let's not jump from the frying pan into the fire in the name of "Change".

You are right a lot of people don't know Obama's records. However, we should not criticise his God given talent in speaking. I believe that if people who are supporting Obama learned more about him and his accomplishments, they would like him even more. It goes to show his ability to lead with the way he is running his campaign. A "freshman" as many continue to call him has ran a better campaign than people who have been in politics since the "ice age". He does have records in the senate. For one he was leader on the biggest ethic reform policy since Watergate. He has been the leader on many other things in the senate. It has been overlooked but goes to say he is capable of running our country. He has also been blessed with a natural ability and charisma to tear down barriers. This gift will be helpfull in negotiating worldwide. All the candidates are qualified to run for president as of now I am behind Obama. I am not counting out a possible support of McCain either.

No. It means that someone who tries to link him with Osama Bin Laden simply because of his name, is a moron. Which is it? Racist or moron?

As a resident of Arizona, I have lived through and with McCains antics. Remember the Keating Five? He is just another corrupt politician who is only looking out for himself and is too lazy to get a real job and work for a living like the rest of us. Oh, and by the way I am a republican.

shoulda never let bob dole loose in dc with a jar of VIAGRA!

They all do favors for people. Even Queen Biliary. Check out the story in the NY times 4/12/2003 or do a search related to Corning Inc being happy with her after they donated $10,000 to her.
I see another Republican has been indicted but still haven't anything about that Democrat that the FBI raided his coingressional office and also found the "bribe cash" in his freezer at home. Wuz up with that?

  • Posted By: raider @ 02/22/2008 3:20:42 PM

Does anyone out there actually believe that we can get any politician to walk on water? Let's face it-we are all human and the smarter of us can and will learn from our mistakes. You tell me you never made one and I'll point out that you're also a liar. The Clinton Chronicles were far more interesing reading. As for Obama-the book has a beautiful cover but all the pages (as a politician) are blank. We actually get to see first-hand what gets put inside.

If, in fact, Senator McCain's statement that he did not request special FAVORABLE treatment for the lobbiest, but merely requested that the committee ACT, then I have no problem with this. I do believe that NO ONE in Washington is pure as the driven snow as far as working with lobbyists is concerned. Who among the candidates would offer legislation that would clean up the system as it stands? Who in Congress would vote for curtailing and seriously re-organizing transactions with lobbyists?

    • Posted By: DemInMissoula @ 02/22/2008 3:20:39 PM

The answer to your questions is a resounding "Obama"!

  • Posted By: denverleft @ 02/22/2008 3:19:10 PM

Things are coming home to roost on John McCain's head. I once thought his biggest offense was his pandering to the far right and his chamelion-like personna. Now he's added hypocrisy and, perhaps unethical or even illegal behavior. And he'll try to crybaby his way out, if facts support the charges, blaming the press and the liberals of America, while Limbaugh, O'Reilly and the rrest of the far wrong continue their their tirades, in between their racist rants. Gotta love that GOP, eh?

  • Posted By: patriot 2 @ 02/22/2008 3:18:28 PM

The American people let McCain skate in the Keating five debacle. Why not let him
lie his way out of this one.At the age of 71 Im certain his faculties are somewhat
diminished. He may not even realize the truth when it slaps him in the face.

  • Posted By: lakbell64 @ 02/22/2008 3:10:03 PM

Seems really odd to me this story came out the day after Michelle Obamas statement of not being proud to be an American until now. Took the heat off of that. Huh!

    • Posted By: whyarentrepubsembarrased @ 02/22/2008 3:18:26 PM

First of all, that's NOT what she said. Like her, I'm proud to be an American...I'm not always proud of my country (which IS what she said!)....especially these last miserable 7 years. There's a big difference! I love the way Republicans try to rewirte the truth! How anyone could align themselves with that party is amazing to me!

    Mr. Isikoff,

As a lawyer, I do not see the discrepancy. In response to the NYT article, McCain's reps stated that " "No representative of Paxson or Alcalde & Fay personally asked Senator McCain to send a letter to the FCC." The depo testimony is that he talked with Paxon about the issue -- McCain never says Paxon asked for the letter to the FCC. The key phrase is "asked McCain to write a letter." Seems like you missed that point. Usually a fan of your work, but think this may just be your obsession with the potential for an Obama presidency getting the best of you.

  • Posted By: GJSGINA @ 02/22/2008 2:52:47 PM

WHY CANT PEOPLE SEE THAT HE'S COVERING UP? THEY DONT WANT TO SEE THEIR " PERFECT CANDIDATE" OF ANY WRONG DOING. YOU'LL SEE THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Posted By: oldjarheadmt @ 02/22/2008 3:04:24 PM

Right. Rush has a lot of infuence at the Times, Yiu are atypicl lefty.

      • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 02/22/2008 3:18:23 PM

"atypical"? Why do people not know what this word means? Anyone who uses the term "lefty" an thinks its a pejorative has already lost the argument.

  • Posted By: onepoker @ 02/22/2008 2:56:35 PM

not remembering a letter you had written for someone 8 years ago is not a lie! this is a mundane everyday task for a senator. He wasnt selling out his constituents he wasnt stealing money he was responding to the request of a respected friend.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 02/22/2008 3:16:01 PM

You obviously can't read. He lied about talking directly with Paxson about the regulatory matter, not about the letter he sent.

  • Posted By: smsb @ 02/22/2008 2:58:58 PM

Keep digging--this is ridiculous and after carefully (with no bias) looking carefully at McCain, Obama and Clinton--give me Clinton. Knowlege and information that it would take someone else years to obtain she has and she knows what to do with it.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 02/22/2008 3:14:47 PM

Yep. She knows how to host a fabulous state dinner for visiting dignitaries. She does have that on Obama.

  • Posted By: yourstruly666 @ 02/22/2008 3:14:28 PM

Oooops!!!! McCain is starting to look like a Democrat when it comes to campaign ethics. Here in Washington State, the big abusers who make sure big donors get all the pork are Democratic Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Dicks (according to a well researched Seattle Times Article--lib paper). Patty is one of the top ten in bringing home pork for her doners--something like $300M + another $25M for military contractors doing research. The story points out how much she received from doners whose projects she got funded.

Washington as usual. We could have had a turn around artist and pretty much incorruptable President in Mitt Romney. He simply has so much of his own money that he doesn't need lobbyists to fly him around in their planes or to give him money for favors. He warned conservative voters a vote for Huck was a vote for McCain--another political insider like the other two Senators (D's) still in the race. Oh well! You prejudiced Huckabites voted for Huckster (also very corrupt--named as one of the "Top Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians of 2007 by Judicial Review and keeping bad company as the list includes Hillary and Barak) and Mitt warned you a vote for Huck was a vote for McCain. You bought him. You got him. Way to go!

Romney the turn around artist--not a Washington insider for VP now and Pres. 2012

  • Posted By: greenvilleSC @ 02/22/2008 2:59:17 PM

The republican party should have backed Romney - McCain has a few skeleton's in his closet - and can't win over the Democrats (sadly I say)!

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 02/22/2008 3:13:49 PM

Romney couldn't have won against any of the Democrats. McCain is their best chance. They were smart to support him in lieu of Romney and Huckabee. McCain's got a small chance of winning, but he's better off than the rest of the cons.

Dumped his first wife for a sugar mama; was one of the "Keating Five"--wife was one of the investors. . .it's according to McCain though: they had a pre-nup; shilled for media conglomerates; diddled a lobbyist; cozied up with the very people he called "agents of intolerance." How can anyone say he has inconsistent principles? Another shameless politician.
