blues391 , which McCain do you believe? The one that admitted to it under oath...or the one who denied it to the press?

Where's the beef? I fail to see the contraction here. McCain said "No representative of Paxson or Alcalde & Fay personally asked Senator McCain to send a letter to the FCC." The fact that he had conversations with them about the issue in no way contradicts that statement! This story is even more hollow now than when it was first brought up eight years ago. And I think it will backfire on the New York Times. This may be just what was needed to galvanize the conservitive base behind John McCain.
Who gives a rat's a__ about this petty issue. Between Clinton's dubious scandals and Obama's questionable roots (Obama rhymes with Osama, no?), McCain will not have anything to worry about. I wish there was a better Democratic candidate out there, but this is all we got, so we probably will get 4 more years of Republicans again.
Wow, Obama rhymes with Obama, so he is of questionable roots. That's quite an analysis, and obviously sheds much light on this whole issue with John McCain unethically using his political clout for a little hottie he was diggin' at the time. Must have taken you weeks of thought to come up with that!
And of course McCain rhymes with NoBrain, and CumStain, and AcidRain, and HemorrhoidPain, which clearly has to mean something!
Obama doesn't want your vote, and very likely won't need it. Racists are free to vote for McCain or otherwise.
This is all much ado about nothing. It's the NY Times attempt to plant suspicion in the minds of voters. I can't remember who I might have talked to in business affairs twp years ago, let alone all the details, and I might speak with 50 business contacts every week. I respect, admire and trust Sen McCain and Sen Obama. Let's move on. I believe the nation is looking forward to a spirited contest and that intelligent voters (hopefully) won't take statements out of context, like McCain's comments about troops being in Iraq for 100 years (he didn't say anything about a 100 year war and they have been in Europe and Japan/Korea since the 1940's and '50's), and Obama using phrases from a friends political speeches. If this what the media (Newsweek, etc) and many voters think is important, then we need to send a lot of people back to school for some good old civics lessons and to get a better sense of our nation's history.
For those of you who are obsessing on this matter of him being on corporate jets and flying around on the dime of the lobbyist, this is the very thing he out-lawed in McCain Fiegngold. And with all due respect to our Democratic Colleagues, would you really like to know how many times Clinton flew out of the Mena Airport on jets that were coporate owned? It was once a common practice, and now, thanks to people like McCain, it is no longer common practice. Looks like your trying to villify your heroes again. Much like you vilified our troops.
It's not about the affair...it's about the lying.....Sound familiar?
He lied about it. That's what this article is about.

comment: the article published by the New York Times would make the National Enquirer proud. It is replete with inuendo and short on facts. It begs the reader to make a "leap of faith" that McCain had an illicit affair with zero evidence. The NYT used to be a standard of Newspapering and now it should be considered a standard of wallpapering.
The story simply sticks to the facts. They have quotes from McCain handlers that they had to separate the lobbyist and McCain. Simple fact.
Everyone should read the whole original story so that they don't believe distortions such as this of the content of the report.
We all knew mccain had links to lobbyists, despite his pledge to have no contact with them and never accept money. But what's more disturbing is that he has declared over and over again that he wouldn't go and raise moeny for teh Presedential race (only use the public funds). He's even gone as far to call Obama a coward if he goes after donations instead....Now McCain says he's also going after donations for the presidential race. So is McCain a liar and a coward?
You can never trust a man who thinks he looks good in a bad comb over.
OMG.....side step////....double step.......we need to read more of these before the Republican Party should be allowed to exist,
20 out of the last 28 years with Republicans in office(most of my adult life), and I'm not sure if I don't need a do over to see all of the improprieties that must have taken place, that I simply missed. JJ in Houston
Does McCain's wife look wicked? Sort of witch like?
Too much plastic surgery....it happens!
Mc Cain takes the high road because his past doesn't need too much scrutiny Just Google :
marley hensley and cindy mccain
to see who gave him his start...he is already tarnished
Just google Larry Sinclair and you will see a true picture of Obama
It's pretty laughable you call this a story. The REAL story was the one the Clintons wanted you to pick up but you refused. Developer Tony Rezko and Michelle/Barack Obama bought adjacent lots in Chicago (even closed on the same day). Obama builds his house on his lot and the Obama's then buy the lot from Rezko for 1/2 of what he paid for it in 2005. Clinton dropped his name in a debate in hopes that the press would follow up on the story but instead the press published a 1994 picture of the Clinton's with Rezko totally ignoring the story. The Clintons did not want to come out with the details themselves as they had similar problems in the 90's. THIS WILL BE AN ISSUE IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.
Actually The Trial starts Monday, and the way The New York Times slammed Mccain earlier in the week, and Hillary got slammed today, I wonder if the Times is going for the 3 peat and has the guts to go after
this Obama story,
If the story has legs, they will pursue it. They are opportunists.
I am totally disgusted...it doesn't appear we will have a viable candidate for President. McCain can't tell the truth (we already know what happens with Presidents who follow this path), and Obama doesn't have any substance behind his political rhetoric. Obama speaks well, but tell me HOW he intends to accomplish his promises!
He plans to be president. That's how he will accomplish his aims.
so far, crampon and the comment about Obama, where does he live--not America? (can't find the sender) are the only ones not tqlking thin air
I believe McCain and am really sick of these smear campaigns. McCain has been and will be an excellent representative for our country. Why doesn't Newsweek stick to somthing worth readying - like how to solve the problems facing our country, immigration and the millions spent paying for these lawbreakers. We could solve the insurance crisis if all the money was spent on our citizens.
For any sane voter it is easy to see the recent muck-raking excursions of reporters and their editors have scoured every possible swamp to find something - anything - on which to base an attack on McCain's credibility - and this is all they can find. Well, we now know what they have come up with - nothing! This article proves it - but to read the headline - all that counts - one would think McCain has lied. If anyone's vote is influenced by non-facts such as this, they are being duped. I would say the same if this article was about Senators Obama or Clinton. The press needs to be more concerned about its own credibility than selling its wares. Let's see - is Newsweek a liberal publication, selling to liberal readers? I think so. Can they sell to their readers with headlines like this? Sure can! Is the press corrupt for selling headlines that have no factual basis? You be the judge of that.
The old "liberal media" canard. That myth doesn't have legs anymore.
This is the most ridiculous from of news or attempt at news. I will not read any more articles of this type. It's a waste of time til the next idea of a slam comes from.
smsb : it's ok to bury your head in the sand, the sun is shinning, the birds are singing and the politions are all telling the truth.....
Wow. Criticism without content. Brilliant!
Why is teh Liberal media making up stories about what he said underoath....McCain would never lie. And liek he said he will never take private money....
There is no liberal media. McCain lied, or "misremembered". Which is it? Liar or dementia sufferer?
As the saying goes, where there is smoke there is fire. When will people ever learn, if you tell the truth, you don't won't have to worry about remembering what lies you told. Sooner or later it catches up with you, as McCain is finding out. This man has lied his entire life. He lied to his first wife. She wasn't the model anymore when he returned from the war, so he had numerous affairs, which lead to his year long affair with his current wife, who he left his first wife for. Let's not forget his role in the Keating scandal. He lied about his involvement and got off with a slap on the wrist, while the others involved were punished. He has been wined and dined by special interest groups his entire political career. Why would anyone call this article a smear campaign? This man has no character, no integrity, and is not honorable. Liars and cheaters have none of those qualities. I had a good laugh when his wife went before the media and stated he would never cheat on her or her kids. I guess she forgot he cheated on his first wife and kids with her.
ho johnson (that kind of goes together doesn't it) have you ever heard of Rezko. Every one of them is corrupt on some level. The key is to find the one that is less.
