I am surprised that the Republicans in Congress continue to ignore the will of the 2006 mid term elections. It will come to devastate them in the 2008 elections. If there is substance to the McCain affair, it will have a cummulative negative effect. I don't think it will sink him alone. His flip flopping on the issues and his support of Bush's unpopular policies will doom him. The Dems will be chanting "do you want four more years of the same" and that alone will kill McCain, unless the Dems are too fragmented from the split between Clinton supporters and Obama supporters. If both sides have upset the other enough through the ordeal of this campaign, then enough Dems will stay home and not vote, then the Republican wins by default. That is the only way the Republican wins the next Presidential election.

If Dems rally behind one candidate, like they have traditionally, the election will end up like it did in Bill Clinton versus George H.W. Bush. Do not underestimate the power behind the movement to nominate Obama. There are voters on both sides of the aisle fed up with Washington politics and the politics of only helping the Wealthy. Independents are flooding to Obama. Seniority, Experience, and having the support of the Right Wing media, will work AGAINST anyone going up against Obama, if he gets the nod. There will be more people voting in this next election because they see a chance to throw a wrench in the works of the Washington Political machine and get it working, as it should, for the majority, and not for the priviledged. It will be historic in nature. It will be fun to watch the MSM trying to keep up with it and explain it. It will be the death of the Republican party as it is known and recognized today. The Republican party that rises from those ashes will be interesting to see. Anyone with a 3 digit IQ, that leaves "W" out, is tired of politics by coercion. Politics by deception. Just down right corrupt Politics in general. Voters see that as being the label of Republicans, and the trend seen in 2006 will be even more obvious in 2008.

Voters don't like their agenda to be ignored. From what I'm hearing, the blame goes to Republicans, not Democrats, so it won't be good being a Republican in 2008 regardless of what office you are running for.

One of those things that makes you go hmmmmm. Are we sure this is the man we want in the White House? If a person can't stay faithful to their spouse they made a vow to on their wedding day, how can we expect them to remain faithful to us and the country????

if the best you can come up with is a letter that asks for a decision and has no yeah or nay request, what is the issue? My guess is that every senator and every rep has on numerous occasions made similar requets. If they haven't - they haven't been doing their job. To try and tie this to immorality is a DISGRACE of the press as a whole. Find a dress or a dead body and then make a story!

Mr. McCain should try and clear up this immediately. We don't need more lies from Republicans.

Typical Repubnik attitude. Help the extremely rich and forget about the poor and middle class then lie about it. MCCain is a war mongering nut.. Listen to him speak and you can see he is tilted towards the senile. If he were to be elected we would be at war with Iran also.

    • Posted By: douglassoileau @ 02/22/2008 2:34:29 PM

Bryan you are right about him being senile already, he couldn't recall he met with the president of the company that was lobbing him.....boy is he ever like Reagan............only in that aspect though. he is deffinatly not the communicator Reagan was nor does he have vision, Mccain is surely not an original.

Drop the story? Why? Yesterday, in the press conference, McCain said that he had no contact with Paxson in '99 regarding the decision before the FCC. Yet, he stated clearly in the depostion at the time that he DID have contact with Paxson. Either he lied yesterday, or he lied under oath in '99. The man is corrupt, and has lied numerous times over the years, including during the Keating Five investigation. He is unfit to be president and will be resoundingly defeated in November. Count on it.

I Think the democrats are starting to get scared of John. Can't figure out there own house and worried about in house bickering. It is very sad the media is so far left. Where is the unbiased media at? BLINDERS!!!!!

  • Posted By: eswaze @ 02/22/2008 2:33:28 PM

I agree, the relationship/sexual conotations of the story are irrelavent if there is no concrete and even still is a matter between anyone's family and anyone's mirror to reconcile with. Had the same feeling about Bill Clinton and was only let down when he lied about what they had clear evidence about.

That said, the mingling with lobbyists and flying on jets sponsored by the corp the lobbyist works for?? I mean come on people, there ain't that much room for an argument against something shady is going on (not relationship wise) given his sworn deposition that he had contact with Paxson and the many "I do not recalls" strengthen my apprehension to believe any person that can't recall important facts out of one side of his mouth but them wants us to trust him based on his Hero status out of the other side of his mouth.

I want a President that is clear, direct, able to admit, be truthful, honest, etc and any hint of the otherwise is a turn off regardless of heroism. Just like Rudy can't run on his 911 experience, John McCain should not run on his heroism because though we all respect it without any once of doubt, it's who you are when you joined politics (got elected to whatever office) to now (running for president) that should play a bigger role in how you will lead. Since being released from being a POW, your political record should weigh heavier now and his political record is stained with lots of instances of affairs like this.

Can you imagine under John McCain that we would be in IRAQ for 100 years??

The man is a nut case! Pure and simple!

And with a memory like his, we certainly don't need a "forgetfull" person in charge!

"now, where did I send those troops"???

    • Posted By: crampon @ 02/22/2008 2:31:58 PM

OH, I am sure Obama can CHANGE everything. What a moron!

  • Posted By: One of God's creatures @ 02/22/2008 2:30:25 PM

He's a politician and he's corrupt. Well, duuuuhhhhh

  • Posted By: ireadnewsweek @ 02/22/2008 2:30:24 PM

Media fierce scrutiny is good for the public, but it's only fair and even if applied to every candidate. No favoritism. We are about to elect the most powerful leader in the world and the public needs to know if this person can lead in the sincerest and most credible way as he/she speaks. We need a leader who can lead for every living creature on earth and not just for special groups and interests.

McSHAME, McINSANE I would not trust this guy to be left alone with my grandmother. He wants a 100 year war he is crazy. Im voting for Ron Paul the only real American hero a true patriot. A person I can count on to get the things that are important to the future of America done.

get over what? if he's a cheat and he told a lie he should be held accountable; whether or not you served your country that does not give you the right to break the law. anyone who wants to be president should be held to the highest levels of honor! or are you telling me he's selling those medals for a get out of jail free card? look you and i both know that PR people can make a draft dodger look better than a man who won a silver star, ala (swift boat).

    • Posted By: AlaskaBoy @ 02/22/2008 2:27:34 PM

"If" being your operative word. He didn't cheat. He already said he didn't write off any favors to lobbyists, which meshes with the other's stories. Get over it. No, really.

NEW YORK TIMES - WRAP FISH, START YOUR FIRE PLACE OR PLAY CATCH WITH THE DOG, OTHER THAN THAT - WORTHLESS

    In regard to the Keating 5;

The S&L regulations were "relaxed" by Regan in the 80's, which allowed people connected in the S&L industry to make fortunes LEGALLY, even though the easing of said regulations were thought to be immoral by many. The S&L people made big bucks with these new relaxed regulations; I know a former S&L executive, and those times were pure gold for him. The problem was, some folks got greedy and sloppy, like our friends John McCain and Charles Keating. With that said, do we really want a greedy, sloppy guy like John McCain in the White House?

This is not an attack on republicans, as I am a registered independent and will vote for a republican (and have) if I think they are the best candidate for the job. I am merely stating the facts.

Research for yourself if you don't believe me, but please spare me any baseless attacks or name-calling.

    • Posted By: divad @ 02/22/2008 2:26:36 PM

I agree with your point. Let's see, S&L meltdown under Regan, mortgage/credit crisis under Bush, and let's not forget the biggest meldown in history...the Great Depression under Hoover. Does anyone see a pattern here. BTW...I'm an independent too and I also try to vote for the best candidate regardless of party. This time I'm voting for Obama.

This is an effort by the media to swing the people to a more liberal canadate or canadates who either do not have the experience or the ability to effect change in the system. The liberal canadates are willing to make promises to whom ever they are talking to at the time to get the office and do not care about the well being of our great nation here at home or abroad. Does our system have problems, YES, but the media is not going to help to solve them, they are just going to stand on the side and reap the profits.

  • Posted By: lucyfurr @ 02/22/2008 2:25:48 PM

So Newsweek joins the smear campaign. It is obvious that there is no fairness in the far-left liberal media. If you are a conservative, you are guilty. Innuendo not facts now rule the day at newsweek. If I had a subscription i would cancel it.

  • Posted By: crampon @ 02/22/2008 2:24:56 PM

You guys are going to have to do better than this. It is a liitle to obvious that you are joint-conspirators with the New York Times. Is this MSNBC or MOVEON.ORG. Hard to tell the difference. No wonder you are losing the news battle. Why don't you decide whether you are going to be journalist or political assassins - oh, I'm sorry you probably think that is one in the same.

  • Posted By: buck1 @ 02/22/2008 2:24:52 PM

Oh Please! None of the candidates can take America where it needs to go. It is a sad day in our history. And who believes anything they read inte New York Times any more anyway? Spin is everywhere!

  • Posted By: atldmc @ 02/22/2008 2:24:25 PM

It looks like McCain, to use the workds of Roger Clemens, is "mis-remebering" what happened to suit his own purposes.
