Talk about McCain, the S&L scandal, how he cheated on the wife who stood by him while he was in prison camp in Vietnam, and the rest all you want.

The real issue is this: The ENTIRE WORLD is sick of what these "conservative" religious prigs, hateful racists, and agents of international aggression have done to our country. You want McCain? Okay, but first you have to pay off the ten trillion dollar Bad Debt left by the other "fiscal conservatives", Reagan, Bush, and Bush.

I have read some comments here and some of you just seem uninformed and lack good judgment (to be nice about it).
Listen, I don't care what your stance is. But to blantly call Barack OBAMA by the name of a know terrorist {Osama} is utterly disrespectful, in poor taste, irresponsible, and ridiculous!!

    • Posted By: mouseinboots @ 02/22/2008 1:28:11 PM

Last time I checked this is still America and one still has freedom of speech. Better enjoy while we can because if osama is elected president this forum and others like it will be a thing of the past along with freedom of speech.

Yes, one is totally free to display ignorance and bad taste. The rest of us are free to point out those characteristics.

I think you have to take this whole debacle with a grain of salt. First off, were talking about anonymous sources and if this is such a tight story (which I believe is a crock of you know what), why did the NYTimes endorse McCain as their Republican candidate? They supposedly already had this story and were sitting on it. Sounds like the paper has other motives in mind if that's the case. It sure sounds like a smear campaign to me or very sloppy reporting and, I don't even like McCain personally. I'm tired of corporate media agendas in today's liberal news reporting. What ever happened to truth in reporting and ethics?

If you are going to attack McCain, at least let it be on facts instead of this made up stuff. The man can't even comb his hair because of the dedication he has to his country. He endured five years of torture that most of us would not have survived. He is an American hero and deserves better. He is not perfect but come on...don't let your emotions make you attack just because you want to attack... Besides, it will backfire....

    To All Readers,

May be some of you are too young to remember the S&L Scandal, or The Keating 5? Senator John McCain was instrumental in orchestrating the bankrupting of many companies and their pensions. This so called smear campaign is just a warning signal of what is ahead for all who vote for this sad person. When Mccain ran against George Bush JUNIOR, McCain endured terrible abuse about his personal life, and how did he retaliate, by sucking up to Bush so he could be annointed by bush, hence bush's endorsement of McCain. Ladies and Gentlemen, please read about John McCain and you will find out he is not so patriotic.

Two comments, can someone explain with real examples how Obama lies and steals? And the other is to Eddie o - the reason Wyoming and the Dakota's have the same number of senators as New York and Cal. is because our government also has a House of Rep's where the state's population determines the number of representatives, i.e. New York and Cal. have more than Wyoming and other less populus states.

I have had basic civics and I understand the original reason for the Senate (differing regional interests among roughly equal state population numbers at the time) but today besides requiring a super-majority vote for anything these days to reach closure against a filibuster I???m not sure what purpose the US Senate serves beyond that of the House.. I thought that the one man one vote concept had some meaning in a democracy but it certainly does not as far as the US Senate goes.

Additionally all three presidential candidates (from both parties) act as though they worked in Alaska for the last 25 years and have had nothing to do with the current state of governmental affairs and are absolutely shocked at the current circumstances here in the US.

No one has to explain anything anymore in detail. We just simply follow the osama way. Just throw out a few empty inspirational words such as "hope" and "change" and let the indvidual fill in the blanks with their own imaginations. So just fill in the blanks with osama obama lies ____ and steals ____. American's should have no problem filling in these blanks since osama has provided plenty of opportunity for America to practice it to a perfect art.

This is typical for Wasington........whats the big deal ? Let's get back and let our lawmakers deal with other important issues like drug use by professional atheletes......WAKE UP AMERICA........IT AIN"T YOuR COUNTRY ANYMORE !!!!

One (or more) of the posts commented on CIndy McCain's drug abuse. Ok, she screwed up, we all do, but she should have been appropriately punished and of course she was not, as it's "good ol boy politics" here in Arizona, which includes getting your cronies and relatives off the hook for any and all indiscretions. However, in Arizona if you are a female drug abuser and are NOT connected, here's how they deal with you:

Who exactly is your impeccable source, and if you will not say exactly the I say you are a Liar!!! I am not a McCain supporter, but your story's bias is so obvious it makes me want to puke.

I find all this change stuff to be amusing; our system is designed to PREVENT change, and support the status quo until things are almost unbearable. (Hence things like the Civil War and the Great Depression happening).

Also amuses me people who argue Democrats vs Republicans. That's like arguing over what to have for dinner, dog poop or cat poop.

Also people who always talk about America being a Democracy. We are not a Democracy; there have been very few of them in history, like Athens in ancient Greece. We are a Representative Republic. A Republic is a form of government advocated by Machiavelli (who wrote "The Prince"). He advocated Republics because they are stable. Essentially you have rule by the elite and the rich, but it is more stable than an outright Monarchy or formal Plutocracy, since you give the people the illusion of self-rule. That is why you always see an emphasis on voting "inclusion" and participation; voting serves to legitimize the appearance of rule by the people instead of rule by the rich.

tboone...Your ignorance and racism is showing.

    • Posted By: tboone @ 02/22/2008 1:36:34 PM

If I am anything, it's elitest. And based on your inability to understand that fact, I would guess that you're one of the masses that continues to support our current tyranny. Also, calling me a racists is hilarious, but you would have to see me to understand; not to mention my support for Obama.

Is Cindy McCain glued to his side? I didn't realize he was unable to take care of himself.

    • Posted By: quetzl @ 02/22/2008 1:36:13 PM

gmccraw, sounds like a bit of jealousy or envy on your part. Maybe you are repetitively divorced, abandoned, lonely, and terminally ugly. Mrs. McCain is a very attractive and successful lady, so perhaps your anencephalic comment reflects upon you. At least Cindy McCain has ALWAYS been proud of her country in good times and bad times as well. Further, who with any modicum of self-respect and intelligence would want Shrillary glued sidesaddle. Yikes.

From this to the Keating 5 to the political pandering to the religious right to get the nomination, McCain's supposedly straight-talkin life is actually full of inconsistency, flip-flops, lies, and scandal. Is the teflon finally wearing off in the media in time for us to be saved from another Bush-like presidency? Remember Bush was a "uniter" and "moderate" when he ran in 2000.

  • Posted By: lryan100 @ 02/22/2008 1:34:56 PM

Your impeccable source, who is it? and if you will not say, then I say you are a liar! I am not voting for Tom McCain, but you are full of it buddy.

  • Posted By: llaroche @ 02/22/2008 1:34:50 PM

This whole story sounds like classic Karl Rove... Is an affair anyone's business besides his and wifes?

  • Posted By: winter22 @ 02/22/2008 1:33:55 PM

McCain still has my vote. I believe him and you are just showing your bias to the Democratic Party by printing this article.

  • Posted By: Nuqueen1 @ 02/22/2008 1:33:51 PM

BTW another Arizona senator is in the news today- Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz., has been indicted for extortion, wire fraud, money laundering and other charges related to a land deal in Arizona

As for McCain, get the whole scoop here- from another vet- http://www.usvetdsp.com/story22.htm

Lets bring up the Obama /Campaign donor/shady land deal to expand mansion/questionable source of funds issue again to balance out the sides. the problem is that Mccain's issue does not cancel out Obamas issue as it seems to be more serious due to his possible benefit from this donor and his funds. it is out of the realm of "ordinary politics" classification and into the questionable ethics and profits.

Why was this seemingly swept under the rug and no coverage has been dedicated to this subject? Obama is a media darling that has won the media beauty contest not to mention his totally lefty liberal orientation which makes no concession to the moderate. Well nothing can make me vote for him or subscribe (or even read )to theNYT.
