Does anybody even care that this spying started BEFORE 9/11? Does anybody care about the millions of people that died in WW II to defend our freedoms? does anybody even care that it is these kinds of powers that our founding fathers fought and died to liberate us from? Giving the president the power to spy on the citizens of the U.S. goes against EVERY principle that this country was founded on.

Saddam was NOT a terrorist., not a nice guy, but not a threat to us.

Kier42 Not so fast, your right their was no electronic monitoring in revolutionary war, but their where spies
and counter spies. But its a mute point because all the wars mentioned 99.9% of the time the enemy wore
uniforms. Non uniformed combatants were hung, no gitmo for them. Swearing to uphold the Constitution and protect & defend the people. Were talking Int'l phone calls. By the way Cold war your wrong on that.

We managed to fight a revolution, a civil war, 2 world wars, and the cold war without spying on our own citizens. Is the threat posed by these "terrorists" greater than all of those threats? Does our constitution not state that citizens can NOT be spied upon without a warrant issued by a court? Did the president not swear to "uphold and protect" said constitution?

Robert, please post all of your phone records and all e-mails for us to look over. If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.

    Face.
Iraq was a police state under Sadaam. Their was a distinct lack of information, but
I bet dollars to doughnuts their was more than terrorists than sadaam. I didn't realize
we limited ourselves to one exclusive group of terrorists.

Charko, I kinda agree, but someone mentioned before that he is worried about the FBI
getting his moms receipe for rolls that had cinnamon in it . I don't know if its worth risking
    his moms receipe.

No terrorists In Iraq. Was Sadaam a terrorist? He was paying insurance policy's for suicide Bombers.
I haven't lost any civil liberties, unless I'am forgetting one i don't use. I don't really follow the Canada anology since Canadians and Brits are in Afganistan plus Iraq. Protecting access to access of oil markets, was even a u.s. policy with jimmy carter. The issue is protection from terror plots vs appeasement & retreat..

When we are attacked the blood of Americans will be on the democrats for limiting our intelligence gathering ability...it's only a matter of time...President Bush deserves much credit for keeping us safe up until this point... America needs to see that the democrat party will not keep our homeland safe.

I would have never guessed that expiration of an intrusive Governement program could restore (temporary) guaranteed rights provided in the U.S. Constitution.

Does this mean the Controllers of Congress are finally up-holding dictates of our Constitution and demands of the people? Actually, I don't beleive it will last too long - such "in-actions" are politically unbeneficial, and until we get a president with guts in that office, suspension of habeas corpus, etc will continue until the people will have sold themselves to the devil for the false claim of protection against terrorist.

Robert, can you please explain to me how scaling back the search for the Saudi Arabian terrorist living in Afghanistan and Pakistan who attacked NY on 9/11 to invading Iraq for their oil reserveres protects us? You mentioned below war was waged on us first, and you are correct. However, invading Iraq for 9/11 is like invading Canada for 9/11, as neither country and anything do it.

There were no known terrorists in Iraq before we invaded them. Now it is a the biggest terrorist recruiting grounds in the world.

It is the neocon fascists trying to take away our civil liberties for their personal pursuit of oil, money, and power that you should be worried about feeding.

Laws are to protect people, their not inherit to aclu propoganda. The question
is protection from Muslim Fascism or appeasement policies of the left. Appeasement
is like feeding a crocodile hoping it will eat you last. Churchill

    Six
George Orwell, The leaders of the left, have to give them credit have made their people more afraid W then
the Head Choppers in Robes. Harry & Nancy are experts at the fear & race cards.

God Damn that George Orwell that put all these ultra paranoid ideas in everyones head. The first thing that comes to mind is why the hell do I care if the government ,who is only trying to keep someone from blowing up a couple thousand more Americans; is listening to me talking to my buddys about going fishing for the weekend. Or heaven forbid, someting like " Hi mom, how are you doing today?" .

I can already hear all the screaming from all the ultra paranoid idiots that think NO ONE should be able to know or find out anything about any one, blaming the government for not knowing in advance about the next terrorist attack. Of course the government has to protect me, but they can't have any of the tools available to do it. Because it would be such a tragedy if the FBI found out that my mother puts cinamon in her new cake recipe.

Thank goodness for the democrats, and the token attempts to stop it by the most corrupt president in US
history. Slick Willy, when WTC blow up in 93, he called his lawyers, when the American embassy's blew up
in Africa. Nothing. When he was offered Osama, is it legal. Then blew up a aspirin factory. I like Obama but God help us if he doesn't have more backbone than the group of malcontents for appeasement.

Lawsuites are about weasals taking money from legit businesses, frivolous lawsuites
are like terrorism. You can make a call to anywhere in the world using your liberty
bestowed you, if you plan harm and are caught, the law will protect you then also.
We are talking about the ability to protect you. Personally I like protection.

Republicans did not leave the House of Representatives to protest FISA. They left to keep their comrades from being questioned under oath about breaking the law.
The police stat the Republicans would have you to live in will expand if FISA is made permanent. We should have the Bush administration on trial rather than giving them outright permission to break the law anytime they want.

Thank goodness for the Democrats. If not for current elections, republicans would continue running right over the constitutions. For a short time, perhaps ilegall search and seizures will again be ilegal. Down with bush, the short-sighted idiot.

    Lombardi,
I also believe in the constitution and the man that Wrote it Jefferson my Favorite president
The wmd is a non issue, it doesn' t advance the war against Islamic Fascism. Defending
Sadaam is a weak. arguement also. Taking him out is a service to Humanity.
