Thank goodness for the Democrats. If not for current elections, republicans would continue running right over the constitutions. For a short time, perhaps ilegall search and seizures will again be ilegal. Down with bush, the short-sighted idiot.

LOOK EVERYONE, ROBERT at 56 finally realized quote can go both ways: "Appeasement is like feeding a crocodile hoping it will eat you last. Churchill" .

You go Robert, tell us why should we should keep appeasing King George, and hope that he and his cronies eat us last???

Well BOB if you read my posts you would see that I said that Democrats and Republicans alike are full of BS. Also Democrats and Republicans alike signed off on WMDs based on false information from the CIA, Cheney, Bush etc. The difference is that the Democrats admitted they were wrong unlike you blind sheep who are willing to follow your leader into the fire. Oh by the way I am (was) a registered Republican until Bush came into office. I cant stand how Democrats want to raise taxes and give give give to the people who need to get off there butts and get a job. But I am also a firm beleiver in our constitution, our court system and overall checks and balances. Oh and by the way the airliner has nothing to do with Sadaam. Robert Im still waiting for something intelligent to come out of a post from you. I might be waiting for some time....

Without protection against lawsuits, are the telecoms less willing to cooperate with government spying efforts?

Duh! That's the idea. Without the threat of lawsuits why would telecoms obey the law in the future?

The very definition of a police state is that 3rd partys feel compelled to break the law because the police-states asks them too.

Robert you are lame I'm pretty much done responding to you. I dont think that you know how to read so I will excuse your responses and just plain ignorance. More of the same ol same ol Liberal this, unAmerican that bull crap. Luckily the country is seeing less and less of you and soon enough you'll be hiding under a rock somewhere. See you are exactly whats wrong with America today its no longer about Democrat and Republican its about freedom, right and wrong, and a system that has worked for longer than we've been around. You are a hopeless follower and if I've learned one things its that you just cant help some people. I wish you well in your obvious miserable life and I pray that the terrorists arent plotting to blow up your little house in Kansas. Allthough I know if they do that bomb shelter you just got done building is ready and supplied. Your a joke

Why bother having laws if the President does not have to follow them? Heck, why bother having laws if the large telcoms can ignore the laws with impunity? Governmental tyranny needs to be opposed!

  • Posted By: Robert----55 @ 02/22/2008 10:27:50 PM

    Lombardi
Good point. How do prisioners have liberty. In the revolutionary war
Americans took prisioners that were wearing Uniforms and afforded
them rights. Non uniform combatants were shot as spies.

The telecoms should NOT be given immunity for 'spying' on American citizens for several reasons:
    - the information/ reasons from the Bush administration is as suspect at WMD information on going to war was/is and resorts to nothing more than 'if nothing else works, try and scare them to death'
    - the telecoms went into this program with eyes, and pocket books, wide open- to retroactively give them immunity is no better than changing any criminal law after the fact to benefit the rich and famous,
    - if the public lets the internal spying continue, what's next- the right of free speech because an administration doesn't like what's being said, loyalty oaths before holding a public position or ??

This has turned into the rights of a few supercede the rights of the majority. One of the commentors stated to the effect that many have died to protect our freedoms- would this legislation make them proud??

    • Posted By: thetruthfactor @ 02/22/2008 9:35:11 PM

It's not a domestic spying program!

      • Posted By: el indio @ 02/22/2008 10:27:26 PM

How do you know that. We are talking total secrecy and no over sight except by the people running the program. To much of a possibility for abuse. Give me total power and trust me not to abuse it is not my idea of a good thing. Remember J Edgar Hoover and his spying on anybody he dissagreed with when he was in charge of the FBI? They can do a much better job now. Big Brother anybody?

Why even bother having laws if the President and others in government do not follow them? As far as that goes, why bother having laws if telcoms can ignore them whenever the government requests them too? Governmental tyrany needs to be fought - not acquiesced to!

they are looking for foreigners doing or planning terrest thing.... I am not doing any of those, so I don't have any problem letting the government lesten in on or watch my action in my privacy. I GOT NOTHING TO HIDE!!!!

Are we so stupid that foreigner talk to foreigners only??? WAIT!!!! FOREIGNERS TEND TO LIVE OUTSIDE OF USA.... SO WE REALLY NEED TO TAP THE WOLD TELECOM SYSTEM... What would happen if a foreigner calls a US Citzen?? Should we listen in? Wait, how do they know I am a citizen? Perhaps we should have barcodes to id ourselves. WAIT, how would they know the other person is a FOREIGNER? Perhaps the simplest way is to eliminate the foreigners so that we don't have to worry about the foreigners.

What about the terrest in WACO or the like of Timmothy? Hmmm, we then need to place monitoring systems in everyones home to ensure that they are not performing illegal oral copulation or wide stances....

What the freakin ignorant idiots are you (willing to bend over at notion of power)? No wonder people think us Americans are idiots.

We'll do a trial run in your home and you will be like the guy in that movie "Truman Show" - if you don't mind

People think Americans are idiots because we rape their women - kill people in schools and malls - invade countries to free them yet wont bother with 3rd world aka Africa since there is no oil to be taken - lead the world in pollution - yeah they think we are idiots so take a good look in the mirror

Obama voted no on the immunity bill that passed in the senate but failed in the House and rightfully so. GWB is hiding something, it is not about the telecoms being sued as he claims he is hiding something.

Hillary did NOT vote on this very important bill so my guess is she is for giving immunity to the telecoms.

McCain I have no idea on how he voted buy my guess would be the same as for Clinton after all he says we need to be in Iraq for 100 years and he wants to start a war with Iran as evidenced by his song and dance about bomb, bomb, bomb Iran

Remembering 9/11 is munipilitive and a scare tactic? Hmm can I think about it.
Sounds like the liberal fascism and thought control. failure to deal with reality, hoping for Utopia.
I never remember seeing in History after pearl harbor, that remembering it was fear
mongering. Lets all pretend nothing happened and will be safe. Leftist policy.

  • Posted By: lombardi @ 02/22/2008 10:12:43 PM

Wow just as manipulative as Bush, I said that he says Iraq and Sadaam were related to 9/11 which they werent. Yes go crawl back into your cocoon

Also have you ever hear of the 6 degrees of separation theory? We all are connected in some way so dont give me the BS about how they trained in Iraq or any of that, they trained here IN AMERICA on our soil. So if we listened to your train of thought we would going to war with Bush as he would than be responsible for 9/11 and he too must be hiding weapons of mass destruction, oh wait we have a stockpile of them. In fact we have enough to blow the world up over and over again. Get real and please quit trying to nitpick my post for one thing to argue with and come up with an intelligent response to the post as a whole.

  • Posted By: Robert----55 @ 02/22/2008 10:09:17 PM

Is talking about 9/11 a scare tactic. Those who ignore history
are doomed to repeat it. Total Victory over lets cry about
    liberty taken from terrorists.

    Yankee Candle

Rule of law. Laws are to protect people, not make us defenseless to middle age barbarians. The
ACLU university in anarchy and lawsuite's to protect terrorists wants the me, to more important than us.

    • Posted By: lombardi @ 02/22/2008 10:08:50 PM

To protect terrorists? Are you really that naive? If they were truly terrorists and you could prove it you dont think that our system would work for dealing with them? Your saying that politcal affiliation is somehow related to whether or not we want to prosecute terrorists? Not all laws are good laws, I seem to remember learning in my history class how woman werent allowed to vote along with African Americans(I hate using that term we all have roots from outside America) and your saying that law was to protect us and was a good law? Just because a law is made doesnt make it right, and its our jobs as AMERICANS to stand up to our government and say we will not tolerate this! Its called checks and balances!
