Is talking about 9/11 a scare tactic. Those who ignore history
are doomed to repeat it. Total Victory over whining peaceniks.

I thought these telecom companies were American corporations. Since the Bush Administration has been so quick to denegrate and condemn anyone who questioned their activities and actions accusing them of bein un patriotic and Anti-America why are they being so supportive of money machines? If these Companies are doing everything legally, why wouldn't they stand up for America. Why shouldn't they live in the same fear this administration wants all Americans to live in and cooperate with the illegal surveillance of anyone the Bush Whitehouse wants to investigate. Sounds to me like the telecom corporations are suddenly showing their true colors. Loyal only to Money and not to America. How much more un-patriotic could anyone be? Live in Fear America, the Corporatist are in control.

Randy Yuseff was the responsible for first WTC bombing and he was trained and had connections in
Iraq. Clinton wanted to sue the terrorists. Hindsight on Iraq maybe 2020, but less than two
years after 9/11 about 95% of democrats were on board. Playing the past against the future.

Its really this simple . Why would they need immunity if they havent broken any laws ?

    • Posted By: notmyrealinfo @ 02/22/2008 10:04:27 PM

I would be the FIRST to file a class action law suit and boycott any telecommunications company that allows the government to spy.

  • Posted By: splamco @ 02/22/2008 10:03:00 PM

Bush is "endangering" the country to give the Telecoms immunity - how pathetic. Thank goodness the Democratic Congress has finally stood up to Bush's incessant fear-mongering. We need to get to the bottom of Bush's criminal behavior.

You only need read the first sentence to know that this column misses the truth mark. "...since the Democratic-controlled Congress allowed a temporary electronic spying law to lapse." is factually false. George Bush actually allowed the law to lapse. The Democratically controlled Congress offered an extension and Bush threatened to veto it if it got his desk. His GOP lackies refused to let an extension get that far. So remember, Bush let politics trump security, by his actions alone. That, my friends, is unarguable. Yet our media can't seem to understand it.

Reminding people their was a 9/11 is a scare Tactic? Hmmm So remembering Pearl Harbor
is a scare tactic also? And Terrorists in airplanes are really a misunderstood peoples
group that are unfairly portrayed. We should just be kinder to them. Let me crawl back in
    my cocoon.

    • Posted By: lombardi @ 02/22/2008 9:56:33 PM

Wow just as manipulative as Bush, I said that he says Iraq and Sadaam were related to 9/11 which they werent. Yes go crawl back into your cocoon

    Terrorist: 1) a person or group that uses fear and threats to coerce and manipulate a population;
    2) Bush administration.

Not about listening to private citizens? Do you read? They are saying that they looked through every site that was visited, every email that was sent on these companies networks, and that doesnt mean people out of this country it means people inside this country as well. If there not doing anything wrong why all the hush hush? This country was founded for the people and by the people and was set up to be a system of checks and balances. LIberal this liberal that, anti American I've heard it all, the question is when did it become anti-American to speak our mind, when did it become anti-American to hold our government accountable, when did it become anti-American to have an expectation of privacy? Is this a communist country now, did I miss something? Its not about Democrat or Republican its about right and wrong! Its too bad that no matter what you are Democrat or Republican there is no change coming just more of the same old BS. propaganda from the media, he said she said, meant to keep us at each others throats. If we were really in any trouble than the criminal George W. Bush would sign the bill, if not wouldn't he than be soley responsible for putting Americans lifes at risk? He is the king of using scare tactics to get so many people riled up, linking 911 to Sadaam all his talk of imminant danger etc. The younger generation (which I am a part of) is sick and tired of this rediculous propaganda, while you all are scared and hang on every word we see right through his BS. So enjoy your self righteous unAmerican talk and fight to take more and more of our freedoms and expectation of privacy away, fight to take away what so many people before us gave their lifes to get, fight to take away one the one things that separates us from so many other countries, fight to give the terrorists and all the other anti-western people out there what they have wanted all along; us giving up the one thing that is so sacred, us fighting to take away the one thing that is our God given right OUR FREEDOM. When its all said and done and your inside for your government imposed curfew, when your grandkids no longer have the right to speak their mind, when we no longer have the right to question our government, when we no longer have the expectation of privacy you will be to blame! Just a little quote from Benjamin Franklin in closing: "He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither."

In the past I was a pilot for some members of our congress. I can tell you they will listen ,if you make the phones ring. We did it with the Amnesty bill.

      • Posted By: jakebpg @ 02/22/2008 9:53:08 PM

        Yes they will.

My question is what is GWB trying to hide?

Is he trying to hide the fact that they were spying on Americans before 9/11?

Is he trying to hide the fact that they were spying on the democratic party just before the 04 election?

Is he trying to hide the fact that the spying is directly linked to the firings of the AGs because they refused to use illegal information to bring charges if there was in fact something going on?

Just what are you trying to hide GWB?

In order for government to exist, serve the people, and uphold the laws there must be oversight. The Bush adminstration has placed itself above the people and beyond the law. You can now be apprehended, interrogated and incarcerated without the benefit of due process, all in the name of freedom and democracy. Now they are asking for unlimited access into a private citizens daily communications without any type of oversight, monitoring by the members of congress, or process from the judicial system, . Why don't we just pass a bill that says' " President Bush, do whatever you think is necessary and nobody can lawfully oppose you". That is what Bush and his cronies are hoping will happen eventually.
I once thought we lived in a nation that included the right to privacy and fair trails for the accused. I can see by many opinions posted here that I am mistaken.

    • Posted By: paulcjeff @ 02/22/2008 9:20:27 PM

What are you talking about? Where can you be "apprehended, interrogated and incarcerated without the benefit of due process"? Once again, this is NOT about listening in on "private citizens daily communications". It's about listening in on FOREIGN terrorists speaking to FOREIGN terrorists!

Any US citizen can be whisked away at anytime the GWB determines them to be an enemy combatant loosing all right to due process without one single shred of evidence to support the accusations.

I highly recommend that you read the un patriot act and not just read it but comprehend what is actually written in this constitutional law breaking bill.

You forgot to mention he essentially does do what he wants by his over 800+ signing statements

      Here's a few gems:

Aug. 8: The Department of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and its contractors may not fire or otherwise punish an employee whistle-blower who tells Congress about possible wrongdoing.

Bush's signing statement: The president or his appointees will determine whether employees of the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission can give information to Congress.

March 9: Justice Department officials must give reports to Congress by certain dates on how the FBI is using the USA Patriot Act to search homes and secretly seize papers.

Bush's signing statement: The president can order Justice Department officials to withhold any information from Congress if he decides it could impair national security or executive branch operations.

How about that Airport List - not even based on SS# just a name and you can't get your name off the list with the proper legal channels - enjoy the strip searches every time you travel people. Yes the list goes on and will continue to grow because there are plenty of people too dense to see through it.

Liberals and leftists as a rule are cowards as well as self loathing. They are not even sure of their gender in many cases. In upper Manhattan when a group of youths or ruffians or down right criminals would board a train and start to act crazy I wish you could see the fear in peoples faces. I remember thinking in this great liberal bastion why don't any of these cowards confront these muggers? Try their girly men lisp and reasoning with them? Never happened but it wa a pathetic sight. Same today on an international scale. No one cares about your email you numnuts,,,,,,,,,,,but someone needs to stand up and it will never be you.

    • Posted By: Steve-Nevada @ 02/22/2008 9:39:44 PM

Spoken like a true coward who has never had to do anything to protect himself and others. I am a liberal (after being a Republican for 28 years until Bush arrived), been through three 'conflicts' and stand-up when needed personally- rather than spouting the rationalized moronic rantings that you classify as 'American'?

Who in their right mind would believe anything that George Bush says about anything,he's lied about everything having to do with iraq and there part in 9/11,and invaded their country on bogus claims of WMD's and chemical weapons,so why would anyone believe that he wouldn't step on americans rights also, and as far as Clintons medical records go,what does that have to do with anything, that's his personal business, does George Bush tell you how many sheets of toilet paper he uses to wipe his ass?

    • Posted By: paulcjeff @ 02/22/2008 9:09:52 PM

He NEVER said they had a part in 9/11. In fact, he specifically, they did NOT have a part in 9/11. But, Hussein WAS supporting terrorists. This has NEVER been disproven. He was giving $25,000 to families of Palestinian terrorists killing Israelis, and he tried to assassinate President George H.W. Bush In Kuwait in 1994, which Clinton should have done something about, if he hadn't been so busy below his desk.

      • Posted By: Braes @ 02/22/2008 9:31:57 PM

The Saudis supplied far more money for terrorism, why haven't we invaded them? Syria?

  • Posted By: Leebert @ 02/22/2008 9:31:33 PM

paulcjeff, are you saying that Thousands of Americans have died (and many more to come) and Tens of Thousands have been crippled due to the need to protect Israel and the fact that Hussein tried to but FAILED to assassinate President George H.W. Bush? This does not seem a very strong argument for going to war and destroying the US creditability around the world.
We went into this war to protect Israel and to gain control of oil in the Mid-East.. Sad state this country has been through the last 7 yrs. Since we have been bouged down in Iraq the true terrorists have had a free ride in Pakistan due to Bush mishandling of events since 9/11.
