Are you kidding me - There are a thousand reasons why your article is absurd! You are actually saying that she should just drop out 'nicely' - Sorry but that is the same sexist crap that girls are told all of the time. You need to drop out now or people won't think you are 'nice'. I want a president who is a strong fighter for me and for the ideals of our country. Someone who has the experience and the compassion to be angry when they see injustices . It is HARD for her to put herself out there and I am honored to have voted for her and hope that my Michigan vote WILL count! As you see - I am a member of party and an American and I should not be denied my voice and Hillary should be supported in her quest!

whether you like clinton or not, you can't blame her for trying on March 4th, however, if she loses those states or somehow falls further behind, then she should look at stepping aside. Obama is starting to get more endorsements, Dodd being the latest.

Nothing would hurt nominee Obama more than for the nomination to have been "given" to him by Clinton, as opposed to winning it for himself. If Clinton pulls out before Ohio and Texas, then we'll never know if Obama would have won those states or not. If he does, that gives much more legitimacy to his candidacy. If he doesn't, then the fight goes on, and let the best candidate win--either candidate will be viewed as having bested a worthy rival (who will quickly endorse the victor).

I believe that we miss the point when we critique Hillary as being wrong for the country. The major problem is that she is up against an idea whose time has come in Obama. He makes us feel empowered after the years of the Bush making us frustrated and helpless. It is no fault of Hillary's that she didn't recognize the needs of the electorate. She has spent to much time in the power structure of the country to sense the will of the people to shed the yoke of corporate oppression that has saddled us and Obama did. OUR TIME HAS COME!!!

I enjoyed this letter written by someone - I don't know who - Enjoy:

    My fellow Americans,

As your future president I want to than k voters of all political stripes for their mindless support, despite my complete lack of any legislative achievement, my pastor???s ties with Louis Farrakhan and Libyan dictator Moamar Quadafi, and my blatantly liberal voting record while I present myself as some sort of bipartisan agent of change.

I also like how my supporters claim my youthful drug use and criminal behaviour somehow qualifies me for the presidency after 8 years of claiming Bush???s youthful drinking disqualifies him. Your hypocrisy is a beacon of hope shining over a sea of political chicanery.

I would also like to thank the Kennedys for coming out in support of me. There???s a lot of glamour behind the Kennedy name, even though JFK started the Vietnam War, his brother Robert illegally wiretapped Martin Luther King Jr., they both slept with Marilyn, and Teddy???s negligence caused the death of a young girl. I???m not going anywhere near the Kennedy cousins, especially Michael Skakel.

And I???d like to thank Oprah Winfrey for her support.

Her love of meaningless empty platitudes will be the force that propels me to the White House.

Americans should vote for me, not because of my lack of experience or achievement, but because I make people feel good. White people who vote for me get some relief from their racist guilt.

I say things that sound meaningful but don???t really mean anything because Americans are tired of things having meaning. If things have meaning, then that means you have to think.

    Americans are tired of thinking.

It???s time to shut down the brain and open up the heart.

So when you go to vote in the primaries, remember don???t think, just do.

    And do it for me.

    Thanking you in advance.

    BarackHusseinObama

(I???m Barack Obama and I approved this message)

I, for one, would be upset if Hillary Clinton dropped out of the race now. She is the best candidate to get our country out of the downwind draft it has been falling in over the past seven years. We need her strength, courage, determination and experience. Barak Obama is an untested leader and too risky during this crucial time to reestablish the U.S. on the world stage. He has the words, but not the experience to pull it off.

I, for one, would be upset if Hillary cCinton dropped out of the race now. I believe that she is the best candidate to get our country out of the mess it's in after the past seven years. Barak Obama looks good, but his ability to lead is untested. The U.S. has lost it's luster on the world stage and we can't afford the risk of a "new leader". Barak has the words, but not the experience to pull it off.

If one can attribute anything to her downfall, it is the biased media. You are supposed to report the news, not tell people what to think.

  • Posted By: spirit @ 02/26/2008 9:23:57 AM

I hope Obama has enough sense not to pick her for VP, I would worry about my life if I were him and did that ( just think Foster) . SHe is very scary and I don't love Obama but would vote for practically anyone but her. Look at how is has been coming unglued lately. You really want her by the red phone? She is killing herself not only for now but for the future too.

I will say there has been mis steps on Hillary's side. But come on? Do you want someone who makes a few missteps during the campaign OR the presidency? I do support Hillary- but I am not blinded. I have a brain. I see the faults and the strengths. The people who keep posting with posts that suggest Hillary is next to the anti-christ are being being very extreme. She is qualified. She is educated. She knows the political system- and also know the foreign leaders. if everyone would take a deep breath and simply be fair- they would see they each have weaknesses and strengths. What we should be looking at is - which weaknesses could harm our country most. A person can be inspirational and not be able to execute. I am one of the people that believe that Obama will be a viable candidate with the right qualifications in 8 years. Give him that time and the arguement over experience will be gone.
I do believe that Hillary has always been fighting a battle that has never been fought. No one knows quite how to take a woman candidate at this level. Even Obama supporters have to see-- there has not been one thing that people see as a possible detriment simply because of his color? NOR SHOULD THEY. It matters none. But Hillary has constant pressure about how a woman handles things differently. If shes too touch-- shes cold and uncaring and unlikeable. If she warm and fuzzy- shes too emotional. All I am saying is there has to be a better way to argue this-- not about if we "like" her. Not if hes more inspirational. Facts. Positions. The number one thing that concerns me is Obama's reportedly voting "present" 129 in the Ill senate. Present? That position shows me one who is scared to go on the record on hard issues. Now - they all have some voiting record like that. But 129 times during the time you say qualifies you for President? You have to be a leader. You have to make hard votes. You have too. And then you have to be able to fight the fight to defend those positions. Hit her hard for her record- but it shows she takes on issues. Before the mongers come after me- I know she has voted present too. But his experience is what we keep hearing about- so he has to have silid experience if hes going to fight McCain. The delegate count in the USA Today as of yesterday showed a 96.5 difference and 90 uncommitted. And now we have so many at stake. Lets let it play out. Like the elections before. They are both good people- but we have to look at the facts.

Tonight would be perfect time for her to back out gracefully, eliminating any more bitter embarrassing moments, like those recently, preserved forever on videotape -- while this could be the beginning of the real fight - against the right wing lie machine.
It is a marvelous to many of us, to see the ebullient and sincere reaction to Sen. Obama - even when we may have strongly supported equally qualified candidates earlier (myself-John Edwards) - and accept a fact -- we have a unique and positive candidate that is winning over all groups of Americans.

Senator Clinton is just a little behind in delegate and the media is advising her to quit. Why they are not advised Obama to quit after super Tuesday when Senator Clinton was ahead? Obama's solutions has no different than the Bush Administration, what kind of change he will give? Senator Clinton is ahead of Obama in Texas and Ohio, based on what the media reporting she is losing? Why the press is praising Obama and attacking Senator Clinton? Obama's followers are not blindly followed him why they cheer when he blowed his nose? Obama talked about Unined the country, did not President Bush talked the same thing? Imagine when Obama become president, what change will he lead the country into? Will he change the ecomic crisis? Will he able stop the forclosure? Will he able to improve our relationship with the world or he will keep it as it is now? He is uplifted by his speech writers and not he himself, what will he can do if he take the leadership by himself? Senator Clinton will change the country, Senator McClain will keep it as it is, and Senator Obama will make it worse.

I assume you have ESP to determine Hillary will do all things correctly...now that is a true fairly tale.
None of us truly know what any of these candidate's will do once they are appointed. These are nothing but opinions. So to exclude Obama based on your negative theories...those same negative aspects could come to surface with Hillary....truthfiully this country will come up with an excuse in the world to find something negative about a good potential African-American candidate and leader. Look at history...we have had few great African American leaders. What did this world do...kill them, Fair and equal rights are still very far from the eyes of this so called America we live in. People are still very blinded by equal rights and an African American can lead this country and the ability to understand neither one of these candidates are perfect....AT the end of the day this race will be about whether you stay in a old and ignorant thought of the goverment or move into a change for unity...which has not happen yet! until Obama proved this from the states he has won.....GO Obama!!!

      • Posted By: peterpolitic @ 02/26/2008 10:01:58 AM

Race or gender is not the issue for choosing a president candidate, the qualification of the candidate and his or her way of leadership is the main point. What is the reason we have to vote for the president? Are we looking for someone to lead the country to be stronger or are we choosing someone who is more favorite to us? Unity and United have the same meaning. Obama says unity and president Bush called for united. Both unity and united of a country are good; but if the people of the country is suffer, how can its people united or be unity. We based our vote on our opinion and see not into the outcome of our action will lead us into ashame. Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton is two persons; do not blame one person for the other's mistake. Hillary has learned from her husband's failure and she will do it better than him.

I am an African American woman and I was ready to vote for Hillary Clinton "From Day One" due to her experience. I have changed my support to Barack Obama because of his views and he seems to be a sincere and stable (unchanging) candidate for change. But the clencher for me was the dirty fighting by the Clinton Camp. I think we all know the "low blows" have hurt her campaign. The Clinton Camp realized this a littlle too late, but it came just in time for voters like me. If I had not seen the many sides of Hillary Clinton, I probably would still be supporting her in my ignorance.

Please dont ask me to believe you were ever a Hillary supporter. With the free ride the press has given Obama and the extreme negativity the press has show Ms. Clinton, i Say she should have started her attack earlier. Since when is stating facts negative. The picture that came out yesterday of Obama has been floating on the internet for years and was attributed to the Clinton campaign. Obama shouted from the rooftops foul. He should have been proud to show his respect to another country--much ado about nothing but seized upon by his campaign. If that is how loyal you are to the Hillary campaign she does not need supporters like you.

  • Posted By: nsanders @ 02/26/2008 9:48:02 AM

Hillary has mismanaged her campaign so badly, that even her most devout supporters must wonder...is this the disarray and incompetence that would follow her into the White House? So laughable that she found her voice in New Hampshire...what is the average shelf life of these voices. They sure seem to come and go with the wind. Not a good omen for the Oval Office, either. Hillary's harangue of attack on Obama, signals desperation. Doesn't she get it, that the more we see (and hear her, for sure) her, the more we dislike her?

  • Posted By: bethie_mama @ 02/26/2008 9:13:22 AM

Wow, I guess people are just really sensitive about this campaign from the comments left here. But I'm glad that we finally have a race that makes people stand up and take notice. Regardless of which of these candidates take the nomination, for the first time in history we have someone other than a white man running for the most powerful position in the world. And it couldn't come at a more perfect time in history!
I am an Obama supporter myself, but to be completely honest, I hope sincerely for an Obama/Clinton ticket this fall. Hope and experience joined together? Now THAT would be a race to be seen!

Jonathan Alter is an ass. He states that Hillary would show class and the voters would look favorably on her if she threw her support to Obama. How naive. Hillafy haters would not look favoribly on her if Jeasus Christ came to earth and annointed her a saint. Hillary Harters are just that. They do not want to listen to reason. How can anyone with any brains vote for Obama. Time and again it has been shown that a wonan with the same credentials as Obama would not have the chance of a smowball in hell to even run in this election as win. Hillary supporters know she is the best candidate but the press have played into the anybody celebrity mind set of this generation and also played against her. I have no use for reporters because they do not report. Just like Fox's fair and unbiased reporting they are all full of bull and elevate their own positions. Be thankful for the lemmings in the crowd. Hillary should stay in it till the end. And those of us who are able to cast a write in vote in the general election, will write Hilllary Clintons name if need be. We are still fiercely hoping that she will be able to turn this around dispite articles like yours but you are not going to tell me who to vote for no matter how much your self inflated ego tells me to.

  • Posted By: dolphin25 @ 02/26/2008 8:52:30 AM

Why in gods name should she drop out now? The fact remains the race is still very close. Clinton won all of the important states on Feb 5th, including California which MSNBC said was the most important state. I guess it was only important if Obama won it. After Feb 5th, Obama was behind in delegates and no one said, Obama should drop out. I have never been so disgusted with journalists as I am today. Mr. Alter you should resign. How dare you and yours think you can dictate a presidential race. If the media had covered Obama in the same way they have covered Clinton, he would be out by now. Your love of everything Obama is disturbing and unprofessional. Hillary Clinton has gotton no credit for being the first woman in the history of our country to win a presidential primary. Obama sneezes and he's a god. I am a moderate and will not vote for Obama if he gets the nomination. This guy comes out of no where, no one knows the first thing about him, the media won't press him and you want him to give him the most powerful position in the country-scary, very scary.

  • Posted By: DavidoAbroad @ 02/26/2008 8:50:32 AM

By your logic, Mike Huckabee should have gotten out before he started. It might be nice for some of you pundits to "seal the deal," but you might want to let primaries run their course. There is more to the story, much of which the media doesn't seem to know how to handle. Apparently this is another "free ride" from the media on Obama's behalf. Let's not talk about his shortcomings -- or his attendance and voting record in the state legislature and the Senate -- after all, we do not want the people to have a choice and even express their wishes through primaries and other channels. This is, in case you forgot, about the American people having the right, the freedom, to express their views and choices. The analogy for the press is to say...well, that article on XYZ in sufficient therefore we don't need any more. Well, the press might have a very different response, eh? Get real.
