Why don't you try setting aside your Clinton-hating for a moment and do your job. Try pressing Obama for some real substantive info on his experience and his plans for this country. Stop being so reluctant to ask the hard questions; hey, you have no problem when it comes to McCain and Clinton. The bias by the MSM for Obama is embarrassing. This election feels like Bush all over again! The MSM didn't do its job then, and they're not doing it now. And your suggestion that Hillary step aside is insulting to all Democratic voters that have voted and those who would like the opportunity to vote in their state's election.

If he had made any big mistakes, the public wouldn't know about it because the MSM is afraid to press the guy for anything substantive. You are all kissing his ass! I have lost all respect for the majority of journalists. Looks like Bush all over again! I didn't want to have a beer with Bush and I don't want to have a hand-holding revival meeting with Obama. Give us the facts; report the news; treat each candidate with the same deference. Obama lucked out with you and the MSM...he owes you a dinner and some flowers.

    Mr. Alter,
SNL was dead on how the media and press is pushing for Sen. Obama to be the nominee. This is what's wrong in America, the media decides who we should vote for and what issues we should support as if they were the holy grail. I have a suggestion, why don't you leave your opinions to yourselves and just report the information we need to know in order to make rational decisions. I am disgusted the way the press and television tries to influence everything we do in this country. Give the people back it's democracy and stay out of trying to shape it's political landscape. Mr. Alter, I think you should resign for gross negligence to the American people.

A fact that all media analysts and writers will not acknowledge:
There are millions of voters that have supported the Democratic Party their entire life and will not support anyone that endorses Obama. We see Obama as incapable of doing the job of President of the United States. With his lack of accomplishments and experience, how can we expect that he will not be worse than the Bush Presidency? Also, we see a total sell-out, by the media, to the Obama campaign. This is a sad day for older Democrats.

comment: You Clinton suppoters need to give Hillary an Oscar and send her home. Her performances are pathetic. I live in the center of Texas in Bell Co. Texas where Ft. Hood the largest military base in the U.S. is located and I can tell you folks right now she will not win Texas. If Hillary thinks even for a nano second that we Texans will overlook the fact that she voted for this damn War, then she is the one thats delusional! We eat , live, and breathe the War here. It's in our face 24/7. For every Hillary bumper sticker you see around here theres 50 for Obama., and I live in a damn big county. She's toast. Texas toast....!!!!!! and another thing...there aint nothing that will make a Texan cussing, spitting mad more than the word N.A.F.T.A. We hate N.A.F.T.A. and Hillary is lying thru her teeth every time she trys to spin herself away from it. Barack the Vote!!!!!!!!!! Were going to do the Texas Two-step here on March 4. We vote in our primary and then vote again at our caucas party that night. YEAH!!!!!

I think it's too soon to drop out. It's still a close race. I would at least wait and see how things go on March 4th. Although, I do not think she should rely on superdelegates, Florida and Michigan if she doesn't win big next Tuesday.

The decision by the Florida and Michigan delegates to disenfranchise the voters was tragic . If Hillary Clinton decides to make it an issue to make their votes count just to win, then it's all about her. If anyone should be responsible, it's the delegagtes of those states. They should have asked their constituents before they decided for the voters to have their primary outside the convention rules. If the voters agreed then, so be it. But they didn't.

Barack Obama needs to sweep all 4 states next Tuesday in order to prevent a cloud on the nomination. Besides, if it happens to be a do over in FL and MI, he just may win those states too. It is important for our political process and to maintain the voter confidence that it does not get messy. If it gets messy, then voters will slip back into the complacency spurred by the 2000 elections.

I watched Hillary Clintion at the State of The Black Union.. Tavis Smiley asked about her position on Florida and Michigan and superdelegates. She did not answer. She spoke on the superdelegate point, but did not comment on the direct question about the two states. I suspect she plans to use thoses states to try and win the nomination. I hope she doesn't.

I don't know if my previous post went through. The gist of what I am saying is that people should be more tolerant, accpet that Alter has a right to his own opinion, and disagree with him (if you must) in civil fashion. Hilary is not being asked to quit for McCain; she is being asked to quit for her own sake. Honestly, she looks and sounds more disjointed, confusing, desperate, over pugnacious, and unecessarily angry by the day.

  • Posted By: EmilyWiseman @ 02/26/2008 4:03:43 AM

The posts here have shown that there are too many intolerant people out there, and to think that they are supposed to be democrats makes me sick to the marrow. People should come up with reasoned argument if they disagree with Jonathan Alter. It is not even that Alter is calling on Hilary to quit for McCain; Alter is calling on her to quit for her own sake. He has not called anybody names; he has a right to speak his mind. Speak your own mind if you diasgree with him, but all this name calling is uncalled for.

Past articles of Mr. Alter have favored Senator Clinton, significantly. This one slightly favors Senator Obama. The title has a strong tone and may come across as offensive to Hillary supporters, but the overall content is true.
What amazes me is not the article, but how much hateful the fans of Hillary are with their comments to it. The best you guys can come up with is words such as: Muslim, hybrid, Osama Bin Ladin, African, etc. You are more delusional than your candidate. Negative attack with below the belly punches is not going to get your candidate elected. It isn't what you racist, hate mongers want, but the will of the people (perhaps, God's too) and so far, the people have spoken. Do you truly believe, in this day and age, you can convince people by lies and fear tactics? Barack Obama was two when his non-practicing Muslim father left to go to Harvard, then Kenya. Barack lived in Indonesia from age six to ten with his mother and step father, before moving back to his Grandparents in Hawaii. He is not just words. He has been walking the talk ever since he was a grass-roots organizer. Barack and his campaign have done a wonderful job of attracting voters young, old, black, white, brown, women, men, republicans, democrats, independents, poor, middle class, upper class, blue collar workers, highly educated, etc. Barack's presidency is inevitable. Deal with it.

    To: The Honorable Hillary Clinton:
You are certainly no stranger to difficult times. You still have a vital and important message and following. You are a strong woman with passionate convictions. I admire you. Only you can decide whether or not you should stick it out through the remaining primaries. I think many Americans, including me, would like to see you stick it out. It is just not over until it is over! There???s no shame, albeit easier said than done, in sticking it out until all voters have their say! But, no matter what you choose, or what the outcome: YOU ARE NO LOOSER! You are, and forever will be, an American Icon - I would love to call you Madam President, and also be honored to call you Madam Vice-President. I must say I also respect and admire Senator Obama - but when it comes to Experience and Political finesse - you have him beat hands down. I think that perhaps the most difficult obstacle you face is that of the American sentiment or perception regarding ???Enough of the TWO FAMILY (The Shrubs & The Clintons) System??? ??? That these two families have just been in Power too long. However, you are NOT your husband - Tell The American People that, and put some meat behind it. Like my sister says, ???When God gives you a gift; you???ve got to work it!!!

The whole world is looking at the American Election process and hopefully it will measure and stand the test of time. I have admiration about Sen. Barrack Obama and his mature healthy campaigns and most importantly his passion and committement he has about America and the whole world in general. I would imagine his a God send, to make the world a human friendly and habitable, and make life more meaningful to all. I would imagine that each and every one of us is just as important as the other. Let's give him a chance to save this world. I personally wish him every success in his ever endeavors. May God bless him ever so much and God bless America, we love you all, thanks much.

I never could understand how Hitler was chosen by the German people as their leader. Now watching how Obama rose out of nowhere to be the next U.S President, I feel something déjà vu. Mixing demagoguery with oratory eloquence, and taking full advantage of a revulsion against a sitting President, a largely untested green tyro could be the leader of the strongest nation on earth. I just hope that four years under this tyro would not lead the US down the path of self-delusion and galloping national debt from which we will never recover.

When is poor, dumb, Alter going to realize that Newsweek doesn't decide who gets nominated...the voters do. Hillary is ahead in TX, OH and PA, and Alter is an Obama "cheerleader"...so it's no wonder he wants her to quit, after all, he knows she might win. Fortunately, NOBODY cares about this loser's opinion. Hillary ain't going anywhere pal, and when she wins, you are going to look mighty stupid...but then after NH, NV and SC...you Newsweek/MSNBC boys are used to that, aren't you bald boy.

USMC1980 I agree with you completely!

The whole world is watching the American Democratization process, if at all it will measure to the standards the world imagines. The one thing about Barrack Obama, that's so interesting is his passion and perception about the whole world; to make it more human friendly and habitable to all, by going for the countries that Bush onces called the Axis of Evil. I think that was absurd of President Bush to say so. I would personally say Sen. Barrack Obama is more of a Leader than a Ruler. I personally wish him ever success in his ever endeavors and may God kindly bless him ever so much and God bless the Americans we love you all.

COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU, MVIDMASTER!! THE PRESS IS TRYING EVERY WAY POSSIBLE TO TILT THIS ELECTION. READ ABOUT EACH CANDIDATE FROM THEIR OWN WEBSITES AND MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION WHO WOULD MAKE THE BEST PRESIDENT. DON'T LET THE PRESS TELL YOU WHO TO VOTE FOR! THAT'S HOW WE GOT BUSH!

  • Posted By: home4rent @ 02/26/2008 3:22:55 AM

Why should Clinton quit now? All the white males of the world would say she was weak, she couldn't take the heat, etc etc. Obama was no one when this started, McCain was down and out and look at him now. Politics are at the whim of the voters and they are VERY whimsical. First Iraq was the main issue, now it's the economy. What's it going to be next week?? Obama is an excellent orator, but Clinton has the experience and the drive to see this through....as she should!
