I am a registered Democrat. I know Obama is going to raise my taxes because that's stated on his web site. Given the projected $400 billion budget deficits and the $9.2 trillion national debt, you've got to be drugged to believe he can deliver all his expensive promises. I was not born rich. That is why I hate my govt giving out freebies like what he has been promising. I also look at this election as a promotional exercise. Who should I promote to the White House? Somebody who has voted 192 times "present" in the Illinois legislature instead of sticking his head out? Those 192 times will fill out his otherwise blank resume. Here is a job applicants with a blank resume kept promising he can do a better job than those who are battle-tested in your own corporation. I would rather cross party line to vote for a war hawk like McCain than somebody who would take my money to experiment while he is facing a steep learning curve. At least a war hawk would protect the American way of life - petroleum - from Iran.

Mandolin....Hello? Anyone home? ....and you don't think a clear leader and winner is emerging now? Get a grip! I second "ISawYourMommy" comment! LOL!

I believe Hillary should fight as long as she chooses. I also believe she would be as good a president as Obama. Man or woman, black, white who cares? We can all hope for the perfect president but it is a fair statement that we have no one truly desireable running for president just as we don't currently have a desireable president. Hillary would humiliate the country to a level never realized and Obama would humiliate himself to the same degree. That leaves McCain... oh crap.

Hillary was never going to win anyway. She was living in a fool's paradise out east. I don't know what the east honestly thought of her, but apparently a great deal of the rest of the country didn't think much of her. I don't think she can ever lose the aura of being married to Bill Clinton with the icky things he did. His pants down in the Oval Office? Forget the morality of it, what he and that woman did was just plain messy and icky. I don't even want to think about the neighbors doing whatever it is they do in the privacy of their own home, and here was Clinton shoving it down our throats (well, not exactly OUR throats) from the White House.

I haven't liked Hillary since she tried to push through an insurance program when Bill was first in office. Cold, hard women don???t play well in Peoria.

I don't think what's-his-name is going to be elected President, Barack Obama, and it's not because he's black or because of his politics, but because of his name. Yes, his name. America makes changes slowly, and we've yet to have a president who didn't have a neat, tidy English/American sounding name, usually both first and last, sometimes only first or only last.

Think about it. How else did we get stuck with our current President? His name won it for him, a nice neat tidy all-American boy-next-door kind of a name.

Now, please understand me. I'm not saying that there is something superior about an English/American name. NO, NO, NO, NO. And I'm not saying that English/American people are superior to other nationalities, NOT AT ALL. I???m CERTAINLY NOT saying that men with English/American names make presidents because they obviously don???t. I'm just sitting here looking at a list of our U.S. Presidents, and all of these guys have nice, neat tidy English/American names. And I don't mean to offend anyone by using the phrase "English/American." Maybe someone else can phrase it better for me.

Back to Barack Obama....... he just might be the man to change this trend in history.

And "Mommy"....appaling arrogance is highly unflattering....go to your closet now and kneel on your prayer rug.....With any luck, Osama will adopt you.

      All Aboard!

The Idiot Train is leaving the station!

She should stay in until a clear winner emerges--it's better if the person who gets the nomination had to really earn it.

Oh I love your comment, Nephilim. You cracked me up! Hahaha ... I couldn't help laughing out loud to read your sentence. Yes, he should pick up a book. OMG :-)

your comment is completely ignorant. Hillary is a fighter. It's not over yet, why quit? you just wish she'd quit or that's what you would've done, because you are a wuss. You are not worthy enough to talk about Hillary. Unfortunately you are one type of ppl supporting Obama, but one day you people will be extinct as the society advances. There are some civil Obama supporters, but you my friend is a LOSER!

HEY MARINE: I support the troops just not YOU. If you are indeed a veteran I suggest you rush to the VA to get immediate psychiatric help for your anger problem...........either that or put down the crack pipe.
I kinda hope the problem is crack cause the thought of you near weapons is scarier than Javier Bardem with that cattle bolt.

Too bad someone let you think your opinion was necessary to post in a public forum. Yet again the media pushes this election in the direction it wants to. Too bad also that there are actually people out there stupid enough to listen to the "Obama-hype"...next thing you know he'll be telling us all to drink his special "kool-aid"...

Nice asinine 'commentary' from someone who cannot possibly know the outcome of this election. My subscription to Newsweek, which I've had for years, by the way, will be cancelled immediately. Jonathan Alter, you obviously have your own personal agenda on this issue and Newsweek sees fit to let you spew it out to the public. Shame on you. Your 'commentary' just lost your bosses my support for good. When Hillary ralies forward, and wins, I will write back so you can eat crow. Newsweek should fire you. Do you think you are some kind of god or something?

Why do so many women feel that many of us men don't like Hillary because she is a so called "Strong" Woman. I don't think she is a nice person and would hurt our country as President. If say Margaret Thatcher was on the dockett in her prime I would definitely vote for her because she was a great Prime Minister.

    • Posted By: ISawYourMommy @ 02/26/2008 2:20:52 AM

Exactly. Man, woman or hermaphrodite, she's just a nasty person. It's starting to show now - she's like a cornered dog, on the attack with saliva dripping from her fangs.

All this orchestrated Hillary hatred has absolutely no base since very beginning. It has been a right wing conspiracy building strong for so long and some of our naive Dems got trapped in it. Whenever I asked why hate Hillary, nobody ever could give me a specific answer. They just repeatedly say people feel this way. Well, this is not an answer. So I finally figured that out. It is purely jalousie towards Bill who has done a fantastic job and even is praised and adored by the world community, and solely jalousie plus sexism towards Hillary who is an intelligent female having exactly same level of competence as Bill. Their intelligence make the dead ordinary folks without sense of security feel very inferior. That's why Hillary is always accused to be too bitchy but not too competent. People who dislike Clintonites probably fear the same, they are more sensible and intelligent because Clintonites DON'T follow empty words, they follow logics and Hillary's past performances.

Hillary absolutely should not withdraw without a clear result, not mention FL and MI delegates problem have not been settled. In both states, Hillary won big time. Have you heard about fighting a good fight? Are you telling me when fighting the terrorists, American soldiers should just lay down their weapons and withdraw if enemies insurgency is getting high so they can look graceful? Tell me Jonathan, are you hiding behind jalousie or sexism for you to trash a highly qualified candidate who has contributed so much to our country? Are you behind Obama because his "words" made you feel you are one of those "up-scales" even though they are probably not really? If they are intelligent, they wouldn't just follow what the Obama master says. They will analyze and make some sense out of this total "tea party" campaigning.

Bleming, you are right on. I've been telling people for a while now that he reminds me of the antichrist in revelations. Watch the movie "Left Behind" and the antichrist is this great orator that brings everyone together and lulls them with his BS just like Obama is doing. Next thing you know there will be peace in the middle east and a common global currency just before judgement day that is. Not serious by the way, but Obama gives me the heebee jeebee. he talks and talks and talks and says absolutely nothing.
Alter, as far as you are concerned this is a classic example of why this republic will eventually fail. The democratic process is being perverted by people that know better and the general voting public is to politically ignorant to know when they are being handled. I'm an ex-Democrat turned Republican that voted for Bill clinton twice and would consider voting for Hillary because I am not to sure about Mcain but I will not vote for Obama. The dude is to slick. And anyone endorsed by Oprah is not my candidate.

The antichrist will come out of the East...not the United States.

  • Posted By: T.J.Adams @ 02/26/2008 2:08:16 AM

Mr. Alter, how heartless of you to ask Sen. Clinton to quit when she is fighting for her political life. It is especially sad considering you were fighting for your life at one time - did anyone ask you to quit? Well cancer has a funny way of coming back - perhaps we can all offer you some ill-wishes when it does.

Hillary and Obama are both socialists and their health plans won't work. There is no reason the government should "provide" (mandate) health care for any of us who are capable of getting and keeping a job. I know a great deal of people who have money for cigarettes, eating out, going on expensive vacations, buying brand new vehicles etc., but "they can't afford insurance". They are a part of the expectant left who feel entitled to free health care, free education, free national and international security, tax breaks and government subsidies because they have children.... blah blah blah. I don't necessarily feel McCain should be president but I absolutely feel neither Clinton nor Obama should be. How would you like to have to pay an additional 15% tax on any private retirement funds you may have accumulated in order to "rebuild" social security? That is the REAL Hillary. How would you like to have a president who pledges his allegiance to Africa. We should be VERY careful falling for someone because they make the best speech- we may end up with another Bill in office. God bless America, we need it.
