    I fully agree with drewmelton
The media has dogged Mrs. Clinton from Day 1. it has gotten to the point where I don't even read the papers anymore. She needs to take him to task like he says, point out his inconsistencies and show that he is inexperienced and stealing words doesn't make you a leader. I can't understand why everyone is treating him like a rock star he reminds me of a mouse. Electing him would be worse than any republican. He scares me, period. His inexperience scares me and I cannot for the life of me understand how people canbe so hungry for hope to the point of blindness. This country is a mess thanks to Bush. The Clintons have done alot for African American, Hispanics and everyone how soon we forget. We were in better shape with Bill and electing Hillary would be no different.

if Obama win.. they should change White House to Black House.. it just the true.. that people can't see.

    • Posted By: ISawYourMommy @ 02/26/2008 12:57:26 AM

And they should rename your house the House for the Perpetually & Hopelessly Stupid. Pack up your computer and throw it in the dumpster - you're too stupid to use it.

  • Posted By: enja3 @ 02/23/2008 3:07:01 PM

Your proposal is not fair to the American people. It is a very close contest and there are circumstances that you are not taking into account. For one thing, the polls may be wrong. For another, the person who is now ever so slightly ahead may be less likely to win against Republicans. I don't care what the polls say who's ahead right now. The political climate may change, not from a major misstep on Obama's part, but rather because reality begins to set in with Democratic voters, and they finally wake up and smell the coffee. Doing what you suggest would also be a disservice to Obama. Are you going to suggest that the Republicans do the same thing when they run against Obama?
You and many others in the news media have been biased against Clinton and, on the other hand, have treated Obama with kid gloves.

    • Posted By: cvb1978 @ 02/25/2008 5:59:11 PM

you say the media has treated Mr. Obama with "kid gloves" could it be there is no spear campaign against him because he and his record however long or short are impeccable? or could it be that he is likeable? when did it become a crime to be likeable? when did america become the home of the gangsters land of the bullies? I support Mr. Obama (a patriotic Christian) because more than anything he gives me HOPE that you can be successful without stepping on the little people and pissing everyone off. and more than anything it's a mark in his favor that he has not been in national politics long enough to be corrupted like so many of our nationally elected officials

      • Posted By: char12 @ 02/26/2008 12:57:17 AM

That hope doesn't put food on my table, that hope doesn't pay for my medical bills, that hope doesn't
pay for my two daughters to go to college, that hope doesn't make me sleep good at night when I don't know how I am going to pay my mortgage. But I do have hope in HILLARY CLINTON. Because she
has a plan and she works hard. She is a Mother and a wife. She is a friend to everyone no matter
what color their skin is. Where was Obama on Saturday. Was he in New Orleans for the Black Forum that Travis Smiley put on??????? NO!!!! Who was there??? Hillary - because she has cared more about the
Black people then OBAMA . WAke up

  • Posted By: dmaceieio @ 02/25/2008 11:08:14 PM

No she should not. I believe with the mess that Bush has this country in around the world we need someone with experience of working with and even just knowing many of these people. and how they function .
No one wants to give credit where credit is due. Especially the male media people.
Obama keeps throwing up NAFTA. Well for you with short memories or to young to remember that NAFTA and the WTO had been in the works for many years before Clinton got into office.. He just didn't use the VETO pen. When the first Bush and Clinton and Perot were all running Ross said that if that went through there would be a big sucking sound of jobs leaving this country.. But everyone poo pooed him and we ended up with what these politicians wanted all along to line the pockets of their cronies.
We need some one that basically knows the ropes in Washington, Dealing with these scary dictators and terrorists is not like dealing with street thugs and setting up work programs. Any other time he might be fine but right now we need someone tough enough to be a "Commander and Chief" And I believe that is Hillery.
If it comes down to having to vote for that snake oil salesman I just may not vote and at 67 yrs old and an Independent, this great grand ma would miss her first primary vote. Before any of you left out there left to vote better take a good long look and think very hard about what you do when you go into that voting booth. Once you mark the ballot you can't take it back.

I absolutely agree with you! I always saw it that Bush was leading us all into strayed chaos and what more our own country is now falling to pieces besides a war going on in another country. We've lost the ability to take care of ourselves and in this President Election we need a newer president that is guaranteed in bringing us better change and aid to our country and needs. We require someone that can speak out their own opinions and ideas while not rely on others in that task for we chose them as our president ???not their secretaries. Despite this being my official first vote in the Presidential Election I too am well aware of the things our country needs and I do believe that Hillary, out of all the others running for President, is the best choice. At least with Hillary I have nothing to fear and I know she will take care of our country and us altogether. And if there is absolutely no one I can trust my vote to come the final ballot electing time, I WILL NOT vote for anyone for why would I want to force my trust into someone that only brings me such an ominous vibe? Trust your doubts and gut feelings because ultimately they are so very true in the end.

I feel so incredibly sorry for Hillary Clinton. She is being vilified by a bunch of disgruntled white males who are dissatisfied with life and are determined in their efforts to spread their malcontent. We have a political process for electing elective officials in this Country; let it run its course. Why are you and CNN and all the ???talking heads??? trying to subvert the process? Are you so intimidated by this strong woman? At least you know what she is all about, can you say the same for Obama? He is getting a free ride and no one is really questioning him on the issues. If by chance he wins the election, we will all rue the day we took every promise he has made at face value. Please let up on the rhetoric and allow voters to make their own decisions. After all, many of our nation's finest men and women are dying for our right to do so. PLEASE stop the venomous reporting, it's not becoming! We should all be ashamed by CNN and the media one-sided reporting, don't add to it. Give Hillary her chance to have a fair and impartial presidential race. When it???s over, as Americans, we will rally around the winner -- that's the American way.... for electing elective officials

    • Posted By: ISawYourMommy @ 02/26/2008 12:55:40 AM

Hillary lost the women's vote in Wisconsin. She may have lost it in other primaries, as well. That being the case, it seems that it is not simply the "bad man" that doesn't like Hillary. Think before you type.

  • Posted By: dkings123 @ 02/26/2008 12:55:36 AM

There is no reason to think that Hillary Clinton will be humiliated on March 4th. This is a close race and even if she does lose, it will not be anything near a humiliating loss. I find it amazing that the media is having such fun bashing around our potential future president. Hillary Clinton has done more in her lifetime to serve the American people than most by a long shot and these dramatic attempts to push voters to write off Hillary Clinton are the real disgrace.

  • Posted By: dkrenner @ 02/26/2008 12:55:32 AM

Having listened to the audio book about Hillary (WOMAN IN CHARGE) and also Alter's book about FDR's first 100 days, I want to share two points:
    1) Yes, Hillary's gracious withdrawal would defy the "image" of the Clinton's and display a memorable transition to her new voice next time. and 2) If Obama wins, he should read Alter's illuminating FDR book.

  • Posted By: marine1298 @ 02/26/2008 12:55:29 AM

    dennismp,

PLEASE dont tell me that like ever other NON EDUCATED person in this country, that your actually going to blame everthing that has gone wrong the last 8 years, on Bush? If so, then you need to wake up and get ALL the facts.

  • Posted By: coolrepublica @ 02/26/2008 12:54:14 AM

Jonathan Alter- I got nothing to say about your prejudicial piece other than *** IS THE NEW BLACK. BYATCH!!!!!! Hell to the Yeah.

  • Posted By: pasbair @ 02/26/2008 12:53:51 AM

Hey, flowers4girls -- Could you elaborate on the grudges comment ? Does Alter hold a grudge against the Clintons for something? DO TELL!!!! I am very curious to know why he is misusing his prestigious publishing arena in an obvious attempt to derail Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency.

My only research is that Alter and Obama are both Harvard grads -- which would make an investigation into whether or not they are both members of the same Harvard secret society (Hillary is a Yale grad).

But if there is some OTHER grudge between the Clintons and Alter...well, that would be another interesting explanation.

Jonathan, for all your accomplishments, why would you tarnish yourself by using your position for personal vendetta and retaliation?

  • Posted By: bethy @ 02/23/2008 2:59:24 PM

I can't imagine how Hillary would have the time to be an effective president. She would be spending all her time getting back at those who crossed her, or keeping the right wingers off her trail of supicious activities. Why would anyone vote for a woman in such denial about her husband's notorious infidelity that goes way beyond the one's he's been caught with.

    • Posted By: char12 @ 02/26/2008 12:52:42 AM

From a womam that has had a husband that has had affairs - I can tell I have more since in my
little finger then you have in yours young lady. Hide behind your saintly face and words. All I can
say is shame on you and Hillary Clinton has much more intestinal fortitude and intellingence
then any of you and that is why you don't like her. PURE JEALOUSY. You wish you were as strong
as her!!!!! And that is also why so many white men don't like her!!!!

    • Posted By: Trish2009 @ 02/25/2008 1:53:33 PM

          • Posted By: ISawYourMommy @ 02/26/2008 12:42:05 AM

Unfortunately, your comment is a SignOfTheTimes, relative to your complaints about education. Never mind the grammar, punctuation and spelling. But Barack Obama does not run the State of Illinois, and he never has. That person would be the governor. A succession of terrible governors in this state - George Ryan (now in prison) and Rod Blagojevich (hopefully soon in prison) - have caused the ills in this state. I'm no great supporter of Obama, but you can't lay the problems of the state at his feet.

          • Posted By: Jon of Northern Califia @ 02/25/2008 5:56:23 PM

Do you seriously think one single state representative can singlehandedly correct all that ails you? If you feel like your state is going to heck, GET INVOLVED. Educate yourself on your politicians and their backgrounds, discuss local politics with your neighbors, complain to your elected officials, participate in your neighborhood watch program, write editorials to your local papers, contribute to people in your state who are making change happen... However, blaming Obama for it all will get you nowhere.

        • Posted By: terry1234 @ 02/25/2008 5:28:33 PM

I support Hillary 100%! Hillary go all the way hon! The only people who look silly and discredit their column writing are the authors who are telling you to quit. I really think that these men and women should stop voting with their genitals. It is disgraceful! Take a look at the records, experience, and positions. Hillary I know I can trust you. I don't have a clue who this Obama joker is. He is not going to change anything except the history of blacks. I worry he will be another filling his own personal agenda (like Bush) That is not what I looking for in a president.

                GO HILLARY!!!!

      • Posted By: SIRBOBO43 @ 02/25/2008 5:49:31 PM

what about nafta and the war? Do we need to shut up about all of that too. How about we all just shut up about every thing that looks bad on pooooor Hillary. You "Hillarites" don't understand that there are so many negative articles about Hillary because she's the one that keeps throwing all of the dirt. It all seems to keep coming back and hitting her on the face.. Quit whining about poor hill and tell her to run her campaign on her merits. For Hillary to be so "tough", she sure does whine alot about how everything and everybody is so unfair to her! You don't see John McCain or Barrack O'bama whining. Hillary, stand on your own two feet, quit blaming others for your mistakes, and get out of the campaign if you lose in Texas. Do whats good for the Democratic Party for a change and not for yourself.

        • Posted By: terry1234 @ 02/25/2008 5:55:59 PM

WHAT ARE YOU BLIND AND DEAF! MCCAIN AND OBAMA ARE WHINING ABOUT COMMENTS MADE. THEY ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT. WHAT PLANET ARE YOU ON?

    • Posted By: aintwegotfun @ 02/25/2008 5:52:59 PM

Let's get real. Do you really think politicians are little perfect robots, sort of sub human. That they don't have all the personal problems that everyone else does? What has that got to do with the price of rice in China. WE ARE HEADED INTO A RECESSION! So why not put someone in office that has never had the experience of being a governor let alone a presidency. Are you so gullible that you do not understand that when politicians run for office. they tell you what they think you want to hear so you will vote for them? Do you not see that our new president will be walking into the Oval office facing a $400 billion deficit. NAFTA countries are very worried. Why? Because we spend more money than any other country. Our economy affects theirs. There will be more losses of jobs and hence more uninsured. The emergency rooms are already over crowded, so what happens when someone goes there with a real emergency? O'Bama says change starts from the ground up, translate, we have to change. Medical costs keeps going up because fof the people that cannot pay there medical bills. We need some serious help. go Hillary and please bring Bill with you. This nation needs you NOW! do what you did when you cleaned up after the first Bush. You know how to do it.

    • Posted By: terry1234 @ 02/25/2008 5:40:13 PM

Beth: How Hillary and Bill handle their marriage is their business. I am only concerned about how they handle their job as president. I think that Hillary is a very wise women, capable of taking care of herself and if she happens to have the trait of forgiveness that these so called catholics have then let her be. I doubt if you come even close to walking in her shoes or carry the wisdom she has.

    • Posted By: lorichicago @ 02/25/2008 2:00:39 PM

Mr. Alter--I agree that it might behoove Hillary's career in politics for her to quit now. But is that really the best thing for the Democratic party? As a Democrat and Obama supporter, I'd rather have Hillary attacking Obama than McCain and the Republican machine begin to attack him. By the time Hillary's done attacking Obama and the Republicans can begin attacking Obama in earnest, the American public will be tired of these same old silly, racist and anti-Muslim smears. I'd rather have the Republicans split their venom between Hillary and Obama than have it soley directed on Obama--for at least a couple more months.

  • Posted By: Dabear @ 02/26/2008 12:51:36 AM

Whitewater? Nafta? Ignoring the genocide in Rwanda? Ignoring an unstable marriage (but keeping it together for politics sake)? WTO? Voting for the war in Iraq? And Iran? No wonder the Clintons want to bring down the Democratic party - THE CLINTONS ARE REPUBLICANS. And by the way, Hillary looks like a fire hydrant in that stupid yellow coat. Where's my dog when I need him.

Alter Should Get a Haircut Now. If he goes to the barber immediately, he can save himself from further embarrassment regarding his comb-over attempt. Hey Jonathan, your scalp was showing in 2004 and we didn't say anything. Isn't there someone younger and better looking and oh, I don't know, female - that we could read?

      • Posted By: violaken @ 02/26/2008 12:49:41 AM

If they get smart and realize it could be their best ticket to an eventual presidential bid, they will!

  • Posted By: mteklund @ 02/26/2008 12:24:39 AM

Alter's column is a good example of why many people pay no attention to the mainstream press. When I last checked, there is a contest still going on for the Democratic presdiential nomination and the good citizens of Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania deserve to have their voices heard and votes recorded. It's funny how the concept of exiting "gracefully" has never come into play when only males were running for office. I guess McCain should have taken the hint last July and made a "graceful" exit to avoid intraparty bickering. Well, he didn't and now finds his old foes rallying around him. On the Democratic side, whoever wins - Hillary or Obama- will find a groundswell of support - because s/he actually won(!) and didn't just stand aside to make room for an opponent.
Shame on you, Jonathan Alter, for suffering from and then advocating such a narrow ,sexist view of the fight for the Democratic nomination.

    • Posted By: ISawYourMommy @ 02/26/2008 12:48:45 AM

The concept of exiting gracefully, and advocating that someone do so, is not sexist and did not originate with Mr. Alter in this column. Your comment reflects an absence of knowledge regarding the history of elections in this country.

I, for one, do NOT believe that Universal Health Care is called for in the Constitution. I haven't found it it there, at any rate. When those people who say they cannot afford health care, but CAN afford the latest Ipod, cell phone, dvd players, computers, chrome wheels and skinny tires on their customized rides, etc ad infinitum, then I say their priorities are just a slight bit skewed, and are in need of a real wakeup call. Family comes 1st.

No doubt you truly believe Obama won't shoot himself in the foot between now and October?? Don't hold your breath....He's a puppet for Ted Kennedy and the rest of his ilk. Not everyone is on an emotional rollercoaster; I believe we deserve more than a novice legislator with nothing more going for him than being a common gas bag. Take your mind massage somewhere else.
