Bravo to schatzismom--you posted my comment for me. I'd like to add: What, exactly, has Mr. Alter done in his career to help women, children, the poor and disenfranchised that qualifies him to dismiss Hillary Clinton with such self-satisfied disrespect? I'd like to compare their public service resumes. Does it ever occur to him that there are hundreds of thousands of us out here that are passionate supporters of hers, and that it is hardly the media's unbashedly biased and sexist role to decide this election for us? The sense of entitlement and arrogance is shameless and repulsive! Does it occur to you that Hillary does not quit because half the Democrats in this country are begging her not to, despite the relentless forces determined to undermine her from the beginning? She is listening to us, you pompous fool. Where do you think that $35 million she raised this month came from? And as a poll showed today, a large percentage of white, blue collar Democrats are going to defect to McCain if Obama is the nominee, and once again, the spineless Democrats will lose. It's not enough that Obama is profoundly unqualified--do you think he'd even be an also-ran if he was a woman with his thin resume?!--but he also shares Alter's arrogance, and like others, I will consider McCain, Nader, or be a conscientious objector if he is the choice. This has been like a repeat of the media's drumbeat for Bush and the war all over again. What an inane culture--people would rather vote for a fantasy, than deal with reality. That is why the infrastructure of this country is disintegrating. We don't want someone who is not glamorous, but works hard day and night. We want a movie star for President. That's worked out really well so far...

Was this a tongue-in-cheek article? If so, it was an extremely poor attempt at humor. Who says sexism isn't alive and well in these United States? Mr. Alter and his ilk seem bent on putting that "uppity woman in her place"! I am a disenfranchised democrat from Florida. If Sen. Obama has his way the party will just step right over the corpse of our wasted votes. They should be careful though, we've been known to cause a problem or two in general elections. I WILL NOT vote for Obama under any circumstances! I will, however, vote for McCain. After all, at least Sen. McCain has a record to run on. Obama is an unknown. I fail to see the cause for the press' big crush on this very weak candidate. Since I won't be renewing my years' long subscription to Newsweek perhaps Mr. Alter can see some of the young chickeepoos who scream and faint at Obama rallies want to subscribe. Although all those I know who will be voting for Obama have so little interest in politics I doubt they would be interested in his magazine. I feel like I'm living through mass insanity or a very bad dream that just goes on day after day. What a shame the great promise of Hillary Clinton is being ignored for this nonsense. Surely no one takes Mr Alter's columns seriously. There has not been a column that is critical of Obama. Why has not Newsweek, New yorl Times, Washington Post reported on the fact that CTV , a Newspaper in Canada is reporting that the Obama Campaign called Michael Wilson, Canada's ambassador to tell him that he was going to make statements about NAFTA and please ignore as it is only campaign rhetoric. The only thing I have seen is a story in a blog that is pro Obama that it's not true. (won't give name because they don't deserve any more press than they already get) However the newspaper in Canada is standing by its story. Why don't we have debates paid for with tax dollars and a primary vote like the general where everyone votes on the same day so that everyone has the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice.

I respectfully disagree with Jonathan Alter on this subject. Just as many voters on Super Tuesday were cheated by having one fewer candidate to choose from (sadly, Edwards dropped out before we Californians went to the polls), voters in upcoming primaries would be cheated by not having a choice at all if Clinton bowed out beforehand. Staying in the race is not undignified in any way; she owes it to her supporters to continue with her message all the way to Denver.

Hillary was so far the best in the last debates! Just against a fake media press and against a political Mafia, orchestrated by the most reactionary corporate and foreign interests. All these factors make desperate efforts for handling the puppets !
