Nobody will win! America will be the big loser!
Nobody will win! America will be the big loser!
Agreed it would be best for USA for her to get out now.
Perhaps not enough media attention has been paid to Independents like me who find Obama the most desirable Presidential candidate ever; and H Clinton a repulsive one. M ooooooneoneone.oThThis
what a bullshitter you are, my friend.
What's best for America is that that smooth talking naive slickster Obama doesn't become president. Hillary should therefore stay in the race.
Nobody will win! America will be a big loser!
Couldn't agree more. It's time for Hillary to stop. If you agree, sign our new petition at www.youarehurtingtheparty.org
you people are so pathetic. don't you understand? you NEED the hillary people to win. you're all morons.
My Precious Hillary, Do not take counsel of this Alter nonsense. Stay with your great Message: Universal Mandatory federal government health insurance for all (No exemptions, see Cuba).
You might want to see Michael Moore's 'Sicko' before you diss cuba's health care
Does Newsweek have to register as a 526 PAC for Obama? I've never seen such a railroad job as they are doing to everyone in the path of Obama. Calling on Hillary to get out of the race is ludacris, shes down by 100 delegates. Probably McCain should just concede too, and just stand aside to the man with no substance
I actually really respect Obama. I have been supporting Hillary and will continue too. But I am not thinking that the country will be "in ruins" with Obama. But here is what I am saying-- I keep hearing that Obama is an outsider to Washington. Well I have put out the arguement- is that a good thing for the President? I mean it like this- the President has veto. But they cant pass legislation. They have to work with the congress. A complete outsider with no pull- no leverage- no favors to call in-- will have a hard time to get their own agenda passed. I am not saying that is great reality-- but true. An outsider as a PRESIDENT is a hard pill. He has the backing of Ted Kennedy and unions-- do you believe they will not expect loyalty? I am just pointing out- I think having a certain amount of inside knowledge and history can be beneficial. The President is our commander in chief. Day one. I hope we realize with this time in history with a war raging-- I dont know if this is the time to have a President that is learning and trying to do it from the outside. I dont think it is always bad thing to be on the outsider. If you use your connections and your knowledge for good- I think its okay. I think everyone needs to take a step back and realize we are not choosing the "right" one and the "evil" one. They are both qualified. Just to different degrees.
Everyone, I invite you to listen to Ralph Nader on NPR's interview today: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=19341666
No matter who you are voting for, it is worth hearing what Nader has to say about if and how the candidates are really addressing what we Americans are truly concerned about. He also talks about how the two-party system prevents us from having any other choices except that of the two major parties.
There are plenty of people who aren't happy with ANY of the 3 final choices in front of us at the moment. But the reason why Nader can't get on the ballot is because of state election laws that vary from state to state to make it too expensive for any candidates outside of the Democrat or Republican to get on the ballot.
It's an interesting interview by one of the most articulate champions and advocates for the everyday American to have ever graced our country's history.
Nader has no personal agenda. That's what just makes you want to shake your head in disbelief that he gets ignored by the political parties. In a way, he represents how all the rest of us are getting ignored also.
I swing for Hillary, its a double header.
You should quit by writing this kind of none sense commends, Clinton is the best candidate. She devoted her life to improve American people's life. Not only she should be honoured, she is experienced to lead the country. How much Obama pay you to write something like this?
They should fire you Jonathan Alter! I know they won't as they ask you t write carp like this for Senator Obama . Your long history of Hillary Clinton bashing is showing again. Maybe we have become wise or maybe you just are not any good at it anymore!
hillary clinton would have had a lot more supporters if she had not tried to toe the middle ground for the past year. she teamed up with rick sanitorum n jack thompson to go after videogames. she seem to forget that most videogame players were 16 when she went after their chosen past time and they are now 18 and will never vote for her due to that one thing. and buddying up with sanitorum is unforgivable.
I've been to an Obama rally, and it's pretty exciting. I've heard the same speech numerous times on TV and to those who roll their eyes when they hear the same lines over and over again, do I need to remind them that for almost everyone who has attended one of these rallies, it will probably be the first and last time they will ever see a presidental candidate in person. Of course, they're excited. The point isn't that he repeats the same lines, the point is that people feel connected and hopeful and inspired. When was the last time a presidential election inspired so many people to come out and vote? When was the last time so many people actually believed their vote matters? While there may be a few delusionals out there who think he's a messiah, the vast majority know full well he's not and they don't have such unrealistic expectations.
And if anyone needs proof that he can actually unite this country (or at least most of us), just look at his campaign. No other candidate has been able to bring this many people out of their homes, dems, repubs and indies alike, to caucus and vote and cheer at rallies.
and i hear, after an obama concert, that everyone levitates, and then at night, when they go home and go to sleep, they wake up the next day and a piece of candy and a beautiful magical amulet is under their pillow, and the beautiful magical amulet takes you to unicorn land, where there are rainbows every single day, and you get to eat your candy with all the other special, magical believers, who know everything there is to know.
There was a day early in this campaign when I was sitting on the fence wondering who would get my vote. I tried to determine if I was sold on the Clinton name or the fact that I am a black man...by sitting on the fence, neither mattered. Something had to push me one way or the other...and it has. The issues shows no big difference and the experience is not a factor. Hell...it's really about the admin team you build and how you manage it when the issues difference is so low. Looking at how Clinton campain team has mismanaged funds concerned me. Barrack's team is strong and smart...it's not all about his speeches. Clinton's ego of her team had her screaming victory on Super Tuesday...sounds like Bush being premature in claiming victory just days into the Iraq war.
I could go on and on about this but something woke me up in the past several weeks and that's the difference between tough and nasty! I like tough as Clinton has claimed to be, but what I see now is just a NASTY politician.
So finally I asked myself. Who would I trust simply coming over one Saturday evening and babysitting my kids? Well, without a nannycam, it would not be Hilary!
Voting for a president based upon the idea of who you would let babysit your child is absurd. The presidency is not a babysitting service!! You don't need someone who is going to hug, cuttle, love, encourage, bribe.... you need someone who will have an agenda, plans to pursue that agenda, and create a strong front. In the "real world" what happens to those who love, cuttle, encourage? In my city they get abused, run-over, and attacked. Do we want that???
4-As far as a previous comments stating that she couldn't keep her eye on Bill. Whatever issues she has with her husband are personal. And this does not determine the capabilities an individual has on their job performance or success. If anything, she has been very committed to work with no time to babysit her husband. We can all agree that no one needs to be babysitting anyone else in the first place. I find these comments to be unfair and invalid. No relationship is perfect and this shouldn't even be a topic of discussion.
Obama is all talk with no real credentials...
It just goes to show how people just love to hear certain words, but don't really think about the real issues.
And if Obama ends up winning the presidential elections, lets just wait and see how he measures up. It will just be another administration like the previous one. An idiot with no experience running the whitehouse.
I completely agree with the previous comment posted. It is obvious who the media is supporting in this democratic election. I cannot believe that an article like this would even be posted by Newsweek.
If this writer thinks that Hillary will even consider backing out of the race now, he is completely mistaken. If he wants her to exit gracefully she will... she will stop fighting when the race ends, and it's not over yet.
1-As far as total contributions are concerned, Hillary is in the lead with a total of $118,301,659 versus the $103,802,537. With Hillary having more cash on hand than Obama. This information is provided by CNN in case anyone has doubts. And even though this information is provided by the media they decided to make it "world news" when obama raised more money during Super Tuesday, but failed to acknowledge Hillary's overall lead.
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/money/dems.html
2- Neither Candidade has or will obtain the required amount of delegates to win the democratic nomination. Both candidates are very close in numbers. This article is completely misleading... making it seem as though Hillary doesn't stand a chance. Do I need to remind the readers that she is still ahead in terms of SuperDelegates (73 to be exact)? At the end of the day, these SuperDelegates will more than likely determine who the presidential candidate will be. And assuming they will make the correct choice, they will vote for the most QUALIFIED Candidate. The candidate that has proven and will continually prove they can make changes for America.
3-In regards to the vote on war in Iraq. Hillary has been criticized time and time again on her vote. Some voters even changed their mind and voted for Obama because of this but they failed to take into consideration that Obama was not put under the same situation as Hillary. He was not even Senator at the time of this voting and he also claimed that he was not sure how he would have voted on it.
It's ridiculous to me how one might ignore many of Hillary's accomplishments by one vote, a vote that no one really knew what the outcome would be. And if any fingers should be pointed, they should definitely be aimed at the Republican Party and the Bush Administration.
3-Hillary has clearly done better in the most critical states. States which are essential in winning a primary election. Have people forgotten that she has won California, New York, Florida? It's unfortunate that no one is counting the votes of the people in Florida, a State which she clearly won by a landslide.
People need to get a grip. Obama has come further than Clinton in the poles and continues to do even better with time. He started out being the underdog and has turned it around with the support of all of the Americans who know we need something different in the White House. Hillary staying in the race just further divides the democratic party which is terrible for the November election against the Republicans. Hillary's dirty politics shows her ignorance and desire to win at any cost. That is not what we need in the White House. He has relied upon his message to get him where he is in the poles and not just BLACK people have voted for him. That is evident by his 11 straight victories where he has cut into the Clinton pool of voters and gotten all races to vote for him. Should Hillary cut some "back room deal" to get the votes she needs to become the nominee, she is no better than George W. Bush. Wake up Hillary, your time is limited.
As the Democrats divide, due to all this in fighting, the Republicans will conquer!
Just to add, lots of people are calling Barack Obama the next JFK, that's where he gets the idea of a democratic savior.
I reject the idea that all of us must unite under one candidate. Freedom to vote for the candidate of our choosing, and on his/her own merits is the right of every citizen
I do not care for Obama, for his pandering, for his Black-preacher tactics, for his stumbling in impromptu interviews, for his words which smack of the same rhetoric spoken by every candidate that has ever lived. Every candidate promotes and campaigns on change. It never happens quite the way they wish. This does not make me hopeful. It makes me cynical and jaded.
I do not have to support Obama if he wins. No president ever lives up to their words, and some fall quite short. I don't like him and there is nothing that he has said yet that rings particularly sincere or true.
He believes his own hype and the Republicans are setting him up.
Here here, I could not have said it any better, Why should I vote for Obama just because Clinton did not win the polls, I don't like Obama and I will never vote just because that all there is left
