Mr. Alter - apparently you are turning a blind eye to what is a dead heat race - the race is NOT OVER - we have TX, PA, and Ohio and its not as if Obama's margin is wide enough for Senator Clinton to give up the race. You are absolutely biased and thats not true journalism. I admire Senator Clinton's tenacity and perseverance - its a testament to her strength as a leader and as somebody who is passionate and committed to serve America and Americans. Remember - its not over till its over.
For a magazine such as Newsweek I expected more professional journalism - obviously Mr. Adler is too partisan to see things objectively. Thats pathetic.

To Debra: The future of this country is serious business. Were it not for compromise across the aisle and political correctness, there would be no women's suffrage. And you would not be the beneficiary of the Civil Rights legislation of '64 and '65 that benefited minorities and women.
    Think before you rant.

Wow, I guess you have never heard of the First Amendment in Texas???. Yes I am quite familiar with the Civil Rights Movement and perhaps you should not ???rant??? when another fellow democrat expresses his or her opinion- At least I am not hiding behind texasdemo.

I think men in this country just can't stand the idea of smart women running things and that is one of Hilary's biggest problems. But I also think the Democrats have a bigger problem, because if they want the White House they gave it back to the Republicans when they decided to go for Obama. I try not to be a biggot but come on, I just don't see a black man with the middle name of Huessen as president of our country. Also all this hipe about change, so far I have not heard Mr Obama say how he would change things. And I seriously doubt that our congress will vote with him for a real new radical changes. He speaks wonderfully, and I am sure he is very intellegent, but speaking is not changing.............................Hello McCain

I can't see why the issue of his name should be of any substance?? His father is from a different culture than the US one (I think he's from Kenya) so please accept it as that... If his name were Luigi Paolo Gardnerelli (or something like that) would his name also be an issue? I am sure that there are many patriotic AMERICAN Husseins who wouldn't do anything to hurt the US and furthermore would do all they could to protect the interests of the United States... PLEASE step into reality... Not every Hussein or Muhammad or Fouad straps bombs to their chest.

I am confused as to why the media says we are not seeing the "real" personal side of Hillary Clinton. As a former Clinton supporter, I think we've seen too many sides of Hillary in this primary run. I had to question myself and decide whether or not I believe she will be stable enough to be president of the USA. The crying, then the mud slinging and then the hugs and adoration after more mud slinging...at the least, it is confusing to voters and her supporters. As a African American woman, I believe anyone, man or woman, regardless of ethnicity or race, can be president, but I believe our presidential candidates should reflect stable and consistent views on issues and not have such extreme changes in behavior. Our USA is becoming more and more unstable in economy, in security, in health, in environmental issues, we need a stable president to help pull us together and get us back on track.

The REAL Question is: Why are Hillary and Obabma is the BEST democrats can offer???

Uh oh....Let's compile a list of Hillary/Obama 'accomplishments'....this should take all of two seconds. LOL

Obama is the one who should with-draw. His wife has publically stated that until now she has not been proud to be classifed as an American. Over the weekend Obama circulated written fliers in Ohio containing what Ad analyzers on NPR have labelled as containing false information. So much for his integrity.

  • Posted By: FolieaDeux @ 02/25/2008 11:08:41 AM

This shows the fair and equal treatment HIllary gets from the press.
So folks, you can call Hillary a shrew and say she is hysterical or an old school marm?? If you used such stereotypes about Obama you would be labeled a racist. So we have become PC about the color of one's skin but not about gender. Yeah, that seems fair too.

    • Posted By: Obama supreme @ 02/25/2008 6:10:28 PM

We are very PC about gender. I think Clinton would have gotten much more criticism for her mean-spirited, low-down tactics if she was not a woman. Saying people will not vote for her because she's a woman is incorrect. People will not vote for her because they do not think that she has shown herself to be presidential material. She's just politics as usual --- which is not working -- and she's shown herself to be very patronizing. The press didn't even call her on all the smirking she did a Obama during the last debate -- he had one smirk and it was all over the papers. They let her go on and on about the so-called "lifted" speech -- without letting him fully explain himself -- they were two lines and he had the permission to use them, and he writes more of his own speeches than the other candidates. But the press doesn't report all this. No, he's not getting a free pass because of his race, but she is certainly getting one because she's a female and a Clinton.

  • Posted By: moderatein08 @ 02/25/2008 6:10:27 PM

You know what people say when they answer why they're voting for Obama..."Because he talks really well...he really connects with the audience." That's great if we want a presidency full of inspirational speeches. We need change not hope for change. Hillary DOES have experience. Not because of Bill, but because when she graduated law school she became involved in working for a children's hospital, with very little pay...She went to Africa and helped poor endangered women get help, keep in mind all before her husband was president, she wasn't doing this to look good for him...Her 90s med plan didn't go through but she's still fighting for universal healthcare, which shows she can fight for what she wants...she's proven to be supported by both Republicans and democrats, which you need in order to get bills signed...WHAT HAS OBAMA DONE?? NOTHING. He's been in the senate for what...2 years roughly? And someone tell me what is up with that lame commercial that says "look Hollywood loves me, you should too." It is the cheesiest ploy to get the young ones to vote.

  • Posted By: jah1347 @ 02/25/2008 6:10:04 PM

wow you people are ridiculous you think that Hillary could even come close to beating mccain. And then even more whacked out you think she has a better chance than obama. Please do not regurgitate bull that you've heard from a few months back when hillary had a chance. And don't blame the media for all your problems

  • Posted By: triplets07 @ 02/25/2008 5:17:18 PM

I have read alot of these comments, and have to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am a father of triplets just born and to be honest with you I am scared to have hillary in office as president. I believe (my own opinion) that she is high on power and that all she really cares about is her own name. Mr. Obama is a nobody, or at least was a nobody, he is what the people of this country have been waiting for. SSomeone who doesn't play the same

    • Posted By: dallasiteforhillary @ 02/25/2008 6:09:52 PM

Really - dad. Have you read her books? Have you ever met her? Have you ever had an open mind? A person who stays with a man that publicly humiliates you because you believe in something bigger than yourself, like your child, your committment - that is a person I can respect. Those are actions of an untterly unselfish person. Hillary has my vote. I live in Texas and get to vote for her twice!!!

  • Posted By: sprues1 @ 02/25/2008 6:04:48 PM

I'm a 65 yo caucasian male. In the last presidential election, I voted for George Bush, as the best of slim pickings. I may, just, sit out, my first presidential election, this time.
Should, I vote for Barak Obama, as the best of a bad lot, this time, and get the same results, as I did the last time, I will sit out the rest of them, and hope, the country, doesn't go bankrupt, before, I'm gone.

So an eminently qualified woman is urged to retreat from the field the moment that a relatively untested man who's deemed to be charismatic becomes popular. I would have thought that voters would recognize the value of electing a skilled and disciplined female chief executive, whose second-in-command was a younger, energetic visionary man. Sounds like the ticket the country needs.

Unbelievable how journalists just keep getting lower and lower on the food chain...you (Jonathon Alter) are a case in point. The smart Americans are getting very tired of seeing headlines like yours, with the sole purpose of trying to dissuade a voter from a Clinton vote...I don't know what you have up your sleeve and why you journalists (I use the term very lightly here) are so enamored of Barack Hussein Obama...Headlines like yours are an insult to the American voter...I for one am getting sick and tired of journalists (not that you really are one) like you putting forth these stupid and ignorant headlines to get people to start thinking that he is going to win...thankfully, he won't win. Barrack Hussein Obama needs to quit before he and his America-hating wife embarass themselves even more. That goes for you too.

He has a history of siding with big business, not showing up for votes in the Senate, flip-flopping on questions, never truly answering questions...just little anecdotes to get the voter off of the issue and to cover up for all that he does not know.

His wife says that she has never been proud to be an American and finally, the other day, she was...give us all a break!

The last debate with Hillary Clinton, all he did was copy what she said first and add little stories to her views...no true ideas of his own...you think he can orate? Are you kidding? He said the phrase "Um" so many times, it was laughable, while if you look at the tape again and do your research, Hillary Clinton did not falter one time during any question. Not one "UM-m-m-m-m-" I am not even a democrat...I am a registered Independent and will vote for Hillary Clinton because for more than a decade, she has proven herself to be a leader, has definite plans and goals for this country and is proud to call herself an American.

This race is being decided by a bunch of headlines...you should be ashamed of yourselves...if you would just do a bit of research on him for once, perhaps your headlines would be more of a fair and balanced report...that is what you are supposed to do...report...fair and balanced journalism, not slanted to a side in the hopes of convincing people of what YOU think...save that for your living room with your two friends that you have.

Educate yourself: If we pull back our troops from Iraq we will not be surrending, we should have never started this war in the first place without an exit plan. People let's not forget our country is spending Billions per week let me repeat Billions per week. We are suffering deeply. Don't worry for all of you feel we should stay the course and fight the war on terror I agree we should fight (NOT IN IRAQ) Alfganistan that's where our focus should be. When we do get a President with enough balls to pull us out he will be critized because the fighting will increase the bombing will increase, but what I say to that is they have always lived this way. After the years of our troops presence Iraq government still can't stand on there own. Enough is Enough we have broken down bridges, schools that need funding, our transportation system needs funding. We can still defend our Country if our troops were home. Let's not stay in war because of fear that the enemy will think he won. I totally disagree - won what we are losing big time right now

    • Posted By: aandllyautey @ 02/25/2008 6:08:08 PM

I do agree that we should leave Iraq and should never have gone in. The focus should have remained on Afghanistan. None of the current candidates for President of the United States have the balls to walk away from Iraq, including Clinton and Obama. Personally I have a deep distrust of any politician. They tend to remind me of used car salesmen. They will say anything and promise anything to make the sale (get you to vote for them) then renege on the promises.

In my opinion, Clinton should call it a day. Look at the polls result. Win Clinton wins, it's by a narrow margin. When Obama wins, its by miles. Yeah she said she has experience. However last time I check, she had a back seat. Clinton was the first Lady, not the President. McCain was a war hero. But he also has never been a president. People talk about the experience Obama doesn't have, but the reallity of things is that non of the candiates have experience of being president. Secondly, yes Obama grandfather is from Kenya, but I don't see what that has to do with anything. Really let's look at the past presidents. George Washington, last time I checked, His ancestors wore wigs and dressed like women. Yet he was the 1st president. Abrham Lincoln, grandparents had slaves. Lincoln himself had slaves. Yet when the civil war was going, and the north was losing the battle, he freed the slaves in the succeeding states to help the North fight the war. And then Good old George Bush Sr. Here's a man who drugged the United States in to the Desert Storm War, and for what? Because he had a problem with how Iraq was ran. He didn't accomplish what he sat out to due. So the people decided to elect His son to office twice. Because of this, not only is this country in another war with a man who said at texas university that his reigne would be the one to end the world, as the commander in chief. Because of Bush jr. trying to finish what his father started, alot of people have lost their husbands, fathers, childrens, wives, and daughters. I could go on and on, but this is getting off the topic. Obama has not only won in votes over Clinton, but all the votes added up from the republicans varily equals clintons votes, and yet doesn't come close to Obama's votes. Face it, Mccain doesn't face Obama in an election for fear that he will definely lose. Mccain knows that he has a shot at beating Clinton. And living sake would everyone stop trying to turn this into a gender/race thing, because it's not. Obama has never said that this election is about a black man making history. He said that his election campaigne is about a man trying make a change and trying to giving the people hope. Clinton has never said that she want to be president to make history as the first Woman President. So to the racist, and sexist, wake up, cause this is not what this election is about. it's about putting the best person for the job in office and hoping that they don't screw up worse than what we already have. According to the elcetion polls, Yes it's time for Clinton to start preparing for defeat. If she cannot win Texas and ohio convincenly, Then her ime is up.

    • Posted By: Neshka @ 02/25/2008 6:08:07 PM

I totally agree with you on the subject of race/gender, and Obama not turning this into a "First Black President" campaign. I commend him for that, and that's why I make the case of his background, because he IS NOT exclusively black and he IS NOT exclusively white. But because Hillary is a woman, the media is really dividing the Democratic Party between race and gender. That's why I say, a house divided against itself can not stand. If they can't agree, then they need to at least agreee to disagree, which is a little cliche'ish. But they will have to in order to ensure that a Democratic is running the country for at least the next for years. All the people who say that they will not support one candidate over the other, and will vote for McCain is a disgrace. You are very individualistic, and are not looking at the whole picture. If McCain is elected into office, due to people with that mindset self interest, the suffering of the American people should be on your head. The blood of the soldiers who McCain plans to keep in war for another 100 years, will be on your hands, and the tears of the family and children that will lose their loved ones will down on you.

I have yet to see any proof of Barack Obama's ability to lead the country. What I've seen of Hillary Clinton's leadership skills is not much better, if any better at all. In either case, the only change we'll see if a Democrat gets elected is what's left over from out paychecks after he or she raises our taxes to pay for hand-outs and entitlements.
