I think Raul Castro is trying ,and if the changes that are talked about in this Article come true. He is headed
in the right direction. He has already start ,by having meetings across the island for his people to discuss
there grievances. This is a good sign that he would like things to change in his country. Cya
Comment: My goodness
I can't beleive that Newsweek is printing these words "That will be no easy task. Raúl will inherit a failed socialist economy that has never fully recovered from the collapse of the Soviet Union and the resulting loss of an annual multi-billion pipeline of aid that propped up Cuba's Communist regime over three decades." How can they do that? They acknowledge the fact that communist/socialist governments are inefficient, breed complacency, encourage corruption and are basically worthless. If only the democrats in this country would realize the same facts, we would be able to shrug off the mantle of handout government. But then again, how would buy the votes of the masses?
Comment: I disagree, there may be changes in the next year as we get a new president. America will renew trade and travel to Cuba soon. I'm already planning my trip with USCubanTravel.com I can't wait!
Comment: Raul or Fidel... No Difference!
Comment: Wake up America!By the way, i recently signed up on S e n i o r Woo.com in hope to meet friends or more on Internet. Is it easy? I am 40+ mature woman. There are some hot pictures under the name KeightyKat there.
Comment: getzel, read the first paragraph again.
Comment: Long article said Nothing. Not even Rauls age. pitiful
Comment: Re-read the 1st paragraph, genius. It clearly states that Raul is 76 years old. What is pitiful, besides the plight of the Cuban people under the dictatorship, is your inability to read and comprehend simple English.
Comment: ... "country's rubber-stamp National Assembly" ... formally elected him president? Gee, those were the Superdelegates. Can you explain the difference between the Cubans and the Democratic Party cronies? Either Havana or Denever, come the DNC convention, Queen Amina Clinton will be crowned. Lets call a spade, a spade.
Comment: Cuba's Communist dictatoship is despicable. however, how can you help effect change if you won't even hold a dailog? We dialog with China, we dialog with North Vietnam, North Korea ... even Iran. Why not Cuba?
America's policy on Cuba is ineffective and has yielded no results in the last half century. Isn't it time we tried somethign NEW?
Comment: Agreed
Comment: Wake up America! Cuba will NEVER change!! my family is starving because of this communist SOB, you will get arrested for speaking your mind. Radio and TV is all controled by the communist part because they do not want the people to know what is REALY going on in the world.
WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
