The writer fails to mention that McCain's military record is suspect and more of an Achilles heal than an asset. While the amnesia-ridden media characterizes him as a "war hero", his military record is extremely vulnerable to attack. He has been publicly criticized as a POW "songbird" for his alleged disclosures of military secrets during captivity and has a terrible record as a pilot, crashing five jets, four of them in non-combat training. Arguably, due to his father's rank as an Admiral, McCain's failures as a pilot were completely overlooked as he was apparently awarded 28 medals for only 20 hours of combat service--a rate of about 1-1/2 medals per hour of combat. How many veterans can claim a similar success rate for recognition of such marginal performance?

Mr. Obama is seen by most Americans as an excellent orator but to that end that is where Obam lacks the credentials to be the commander and chief of the US. It is without question that Mr. Obama who is black will try to use his color as a means for electibility rather than his voting record in the senate. Obama wants everyone to believe that hecan move both parties to the muddle but it is without question that Mr. Obama has voted with the Democrats 98% of the time so to say that he will try to bring republicans and democrats towards the middle is more of rhetoric than actual substance. Mr. Obama has sounded like someone who has no clue at all as it relates to foreign policy and his only way to fend off his critics is to say that he will surround himself with capable military advisors. It will be impossible for Mr. Obama to overcome these deficiencies and he will surely be taken to school on thesubject of worldl affairs and national securityt by Mr. McCain. Americans have not all forgotten what happened on 9/11 and as much as George Bush's popularity has sank Americans will all agree that they feel safer today than they did 6 years ago. The nail in the coffin for Mr. Obama will be the US economic recovery and stronger dollar of which will gain traction right before the election and this time instead of it failing for George Bush Snr. it will cost Obama the election. The economic climate in the US will be the gamebreaker for Mr. Obama simply because most Americans own a piece of Wall Street in one way or another and many will not like the idea of the enormous costs that a national health care plan will cost most Americans. Without question there will be change but the only change that will be occurring will be the baton changing hands from Bush to McCain.

"Building the Team," is a masterful 'Red, White and Blue-print' for inclusive pragmatic governance. It ought to capture the attention of Senator Obama and that of his trusted advisors. I would appeal to Arizona governor Bill Richardson to consider coming onboard as 'VEEP-mate' and somehow involve Delaware Senator Joe Biden as a part of a crack foreign affairs team, if not as Secretary of State.

    • Posted By: scribbler2 @ 02/26/2008 10:17:53 AM

OOPS! Of course - Arizona has not been absorbed into New Mexico where Gov. Richardson presides. I must whip out my TomTom GPS Navigator!

Jordan is a tired political hack and Carters administration was horrendous. We don't need any republcan chi com supporters killing Obamas ideas. He can whip the old farts ass easy. Let him run.....

I disagree. It would be best to get the most qualified (and most effective) players if Obama does indeed have the finesse, and force of will, to rein in some of these "power elite" individuals.

No to bloomburg, he is not any more trustwothy than the clintons. He will not play second fiddle to anyone. We do not need him as the power behind the throne.

  • Posted By: gpscotty @ 02/26/2008 8:13:55 AM

I don't trust bloomberg any more than i do the clintons. He is just as power hungry.

  • Posted By: rbianco @ 02/26/2008 6:50:09 AM

I'm going to disagree. While I get Bloomberg - one CEO in the Oval Office may be enough. I don't see Bloomberg working for anyone at this point in his career.

And yeah, I get the thinking behind Nunn and Hagel. However, I don't think it necessary. First, the dynamic in this electorate seems to be playing away from McCain's strengths. College educated people are a key driver among whites. And we get what Iraq was all about. A Bush vendetta driven by energy interests. Mission accomplished. Saddam is dead and oil profits are in the billions each quarter. Let's turn the page.

Not sure McCain's military credentials (which are unimpeachable) mean much in the present national context. It's the economy! It's the reconstruction of the American brand! (So horribly terribly managed!) McCain offers more of the present course but with a more congenial face? Our military is barely winning the most expensive war in American history. It has the highest budget level it has ever had in history. Is McCain actually going to run on we need a stronger hand? A better military? Please! McCain's best possible promise of 'let me close the deal' in Iraq is not really that compelling. We want Iraq (and the Middle East oligopoly) made irrelevant through technological advances.

I see Hagel and Nunn if we think this election is going to be about terrorism AGAIN. Somehow, I think we've moved on. And shame on us if we haven't.

  • Posted By: marc50ny @ 02/26/2008 6:43:14 AM

Wow nothing to offer but other peoples ideas and accomplisjments. No wonder Carter was such a failure.Once again the Democrats will choose a lefty and hand the election to the Republicans. Imagine our economy i 4 years. Tax the rich. Why does everybody pay 15% of their income? No the rich pay 40-50% and the poor 15%. Right about Iraq? he would wait until its too late. No Thanks. One Carter was enough for this country.

All Barack Obama has to do is point out that he was right on Iraq. Just as he did in the debate with Hillary. McCain is attaching himself to GWB on Iraq, which will be an albatross around McCains neck. The American people still have a huge animus against GWB for the unjust war in Iraq that was foisted upon us with lies, manipulations, hype, and Bush's predisposed agenda against Iraq.

how surprising: another pundit in love with the new deity Obama. I must admit this was sweet, all those lovey dovey words about his brilliant campaign and the heartfelt advice on how your boyfriend can win in November. I hate to burst your love bubble bit there is one tiny fact you overlooked. The millions of Americans who are allready sick of the daily Obama love shoved down our throats. Many of us don't drink kool aide and therefore we will have to vote for someone with substance. For many democrats that means holding our nose as we vote for McCain. Not all of us are willing to gamble our futures for the new cover boy. I need a president who nows where Pakistan is. We have allready suffered under an idiot who was voted because he seemed so genuine.

Colin Powell lied on the matter of Iraq's WMD at the UN in front of billions of eyes around the globe, a big blow to U.S. credibility and his own reputation. Although he blamed others for feeding him with fake information, his naivety to take the bait disqualified him as a leader. Rule #1 for a leader: When there is a problem, it is your problem.

      • Posted By: StrongArm @ 02/25/2008 3:25:21 PM

Don't be an idiot!! Powell HAD NO CHOICE but to believe what the CIA was telling THEM ALL. And let's not forget the your Boy G.Bush was the gung-ho let's wipe them off the face of the earth for trying to kill my DADDY! I suppose you would have told the CIA they were liar's up front because as the Pres. you KNEW there were none. Please try and wake up and smell what it is your are shoveling!

Did neither of you read the article stating that Saddam WANTED us to believe he had weapons? He purposely mislead the CIA and others to cause them to think he had weapons....He just did not believe that we would do anything about it.

      • Posted By: GA.dem @ 02/25/2008 4:27:33 PM

Agreed, Colin Powell gave up his credibility as a face to present to the rest of the world.

  • Posted By: Alienated voter @ 02/26/2008 1:59:16 AM

    No, to barak.
What does Obama plan to do if he is elected President? Who can tell since his opinions change week to week. He has little political clout and even less experience.

Clinton may have more experience, but she alienates too manny voters by her snooty attitude and standofish personna. Many voters will not vote for her because she is a woman.

Despite his stand on Iraq, McCain will win by default as the two Democratic candidates sling barbs at one anothe. Even though voters are tired of the Bush Republicans after 8 years of fiscal mismanagement Right now voters are more concerned about a failing economy, unemployment, rising prices, the loss of jobs in the near future, the threat of a recession, the lousy housing market, expensive healthcare, and illegal immigration.

I think the March 3 Tony Rezko corruption trial in Chicago will determine if Obama remains in the race. Obama's ties to Rezko really weave a web. While Rezko was in jail he received a 3.5 million dollar loan from Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi millionaire living in London. How in the world did Rezko meet this guy? Wow, Obama may be in this thing thicker than it looked like from the beginning.

    • Posted By: StrongArm @ 02/25/2008 3:11:37 PM

The trial will have no bearing whatsoever! The news media and the republicans have gone over the guy with a fine tooth comb. Who gives a rip how Rezko meant the guy? It will mean nothing when all is said and done, so find some other crap to support your dislike for the him.

Obviously we do read the Sun times, but do not take what they write as gospel. Start checking other sources, and the fact and suppositions that they make. Most do not stand up in the light of day. These are the same people who ignored all forensic evidence and findings of four independant and three Republican investigation to try to convince the public that Vine Foster did not commit suicide.

Throwing out "Hussein" and "Farrakhan" is typical of commentary that tries to sell race-baiting and attacks on anybody with education and vision as something like patriotism and common sense. McCain is the same guy who will sell out his principles for votes, like he did last election in South Carolina over the Confederate flag. That tells you just about what those many black soldiers fighting and spilling blood in Iraq what kind of Commander-in-Chief he will be. He's the same guy who will use public funding and then try to slither out from under his word. Everybody can sling mud. Somehow it is okay to elect a C student who avoided service and has no clue about foreign policy and few scruples about sending our forces into battle with less than quality equipment, fewer scruples about choosing his aides with ties to business, outing CIA agents and the like and no scruples about undermining our civil liberties.. But it is a problem to have a president with intelligence, service to the community, a commitment to eschewing the kind of high school name calling that passes for debate for so many others, playing down our obvious military power in favor of the more lasting, influential, and absolutely necessary diplomatic power that a true superpower has. Read a book, why don't you. Great nations and empires keep secure and keep control by being smart and working the angles on their enemies. They use the military when they need to make a definitive statement and to take out real rivals. Going for the sword first or with a limited amount of diplomacy is the sign of a failing nation or empire. Good leaders don't have to be soldiers. Look at our founders and see. We are a country that can be led by a Washington, but we also get led by Jeffersons too.

The last 7 yrs. have probably been some of the toughest ever to be president. The only reason we haven't been re-attacked is because George Bush had the cojones to put us on the offensive. I don't know of anyone who complains about a loss of civil rights or liberties. This is strictly a media issue.

      • Posted By: justchuck @ 02/25/2008 8:02:52 PM

George Bush did not "out" a CIA agent, and has never even been accused of doing that. I uess you mean that woman that appeared in Vanity Fair with her husband diving their convertible, lol, and then they wrote a book about it, lol. Oh yeah, she had sunglasses on, great disguise. George Bush also served his country. I also don't hear any soldiers complaining. They are doing what they trained to do, agreed to do, get paid to do, and it is for a very worthy cause. World War 3 is here. Smell the coffee. Obama has never done anything other than be a "community organizer" and a politician.

        • Posted By: goodatmath @ 02/26/2008 1:22:21 AM

You need to get your facts straight. The picture in the convertable was taken almost a year after someone in tthe Bush administration blew her cover, then lied about it. Bush himself said he would fire anyone involved. Which of course, he did not. And you will NEVER hearsoldiers complain about thier comander and chief, since it is illegal for them to do so as an idenitified member of the armed forces. Really you and EVAX need to stop watching TV, listening toRush and Sean and start reading History Text Books and International News agencies so that you can get an asortment of information. You sound do much like the idot who said "Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up."... Or was that George W.?

        • Posted By: waterman3 @ 02/25/2008 9:40:22 PM

Actually the only thing that Bush has organized is a rally of Democrats against his administration.
Why haven't we invaded North Korea, where they have WMDs. Oh, thats right, no oil there.

          • Posted By: lillea @ 02/25/2008 11:19:55 PM

Obama DID make a few under the table deals while he was a State Sen and early in his US Senate year. The truth will all come out next week in a trial in Chicago.
You can get all the details at the Chicago Sun Times.
Obama hasn't totally kept his hands as clean as he has been telling the public. He is part of a corruption investigation in Chicago.
He may have to give up his run for office before Nov.

        • Posted By: Abdiel @ 02/25/2008 8:47:31 PM

His administration outed a CIA agent. If you listen, you will hear soldiers complaining. And, at one time you could see them buying their own supplental armor. JUST paying your soldiers gets you mercenaries. Paying and caring for your soldiers gets you a real fighting force. We are distinguished as a nation because we care for our soldiers. We don't leave them behind and we don't use them recklessly - at least not until recently. If WWIII is here, then we need to fight smart and hard. We haven't been attacked here in part because we have given our enemies targets closer to their homes and because we have finally starting at least looking at the previously relatively free flow of people across our borders. If you want to be willfully ignorant about Obama's legislative accomplishments, that's beyond help. But most of our states would be better off if our state legislators did focus on home issues and get into the streets of their cities and towns. Obama did that for many years before entering the national scene. Dismissing an agent as "that woman" says a lot about your real patriotism. Talk about serving your country. Spies don't get the benefit of the Geneva convention and all that jazz. They get shot, period. So, if you want to talk about serving your country, you go and do the dirty work that gets the info we need and take the risk of operating without a diplomatic net. If you are a spy with your cover blown, what else do you do but become quite visible.

There is no defense for George W. Bush. He is just an embarassment. There is a defense for the old SecDef Rumsfeld, a defense for Rice, and even for Colin Powell, but not this bumbling man who can barely speak the English language.

On the issue of loss of civil rights and liberties: a quote from Benjamin Franklin (maybe you know him) "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both"

Maybe we should just become a police state and monitor everything going on and arrest every possible criminal offense. We can put cameras out on every road and mail you speeding tickets for every time you go over the limit. You'll lose a little liberty, but you will gain security by safer roads.

      • Posted By: x2c2 @ 02/25/2008 8:55:39 PM

You must be out of your mind! Every true patriot in America knows that what has made this country strong for the last 231 years is the fact that our civil liberties are preotected above all by the constitution and the Bill of Rights! Without civil liberties, democracy will fail and become a dictatorship. Why do you think the cold war ended? GW was the first American attemp at making out own little Napoleon and what a miserable failure he has been.....

America is under God's judgement. We have let him down back in 1957 when the great healing ministrys took place, it is now 2008 & 50 years later look at the moral decay. God brought our for-fathers here for his glory and now the American people forgot about what God done for them. Now lets put our enemy in the White House. Obama is not a Christian and does not agree with that belief. You foolish people that voted for him. He's going to bring the MUSLIN MOVEMENT RIGHT IN YOUR OWN HOME !! Mosul means city in IRAQ. God have mercy on the U.S.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet. Then and only then will it be over. I would lose respect for Hillary if she dropped out now. There is still hope AND she still have a chance. Obama has been getting a free ride. One more thing if people really like his xerox speeches, they'll love the xerox results. Hillary won Massachusettes for a reason even though the deck was stacked with the support of the Governor, John Kerry, and the Kennedy's (Caroline and Teddy) for Obama.

If Barack Hussein Obama is the Democratic candidate I will vote for McCain. I am a Democrat. I hate McCain but I do not trust anyone with Hussein in their name and with Muslim roots. Not at this time in history. If Michael Bloomberg/Al Gore ran, they'd get my vote. I'm still pulling for Senator Clinton, she really isn't out of the race by any means. We cannot let down our guard. Have you forgotten September 11th? Think of American safety, the quality of American lives. I just do not trust Obama.
