I do not see the necessity of naming Republicans to a Democratic president's slate or cabinet. The feeds the silly claim that Republicans are the ONLY ones that can be smart on defense. I don't buy it and it would make this Obama supporter FAR less enthusiastic!

330 days till the end of the Bush administration!

    • Posted By: Evax @ 02/25/2008 2:33:53 PM

True, Republicans may not be smart on defense. Saddam Hussien's Republican Guards failed to protect him because they were Republicans. The burning question: Has Obama ever shown talent, guts, or records in national defense? The naive people he recruits into the Pentagon may be less competent than the Republicans. The devil you do not know is worse than the devil you know. Obama has to let voters know what will happen when he takes over the Oval Office.

If you are unable to highlight Obama's policy in a few snappy sentences, you do not know his policy or there is no policy at all.

Evax, that is an idiotic statemen! You are so use to sound bites that you dont realize the real solutions are usually very complex. Please stop watching sit coms and read some very good history books. NO real policy can be described in a few sentences.

Two articles on today's news are "must read" for Obama's adoring fans.

The first: "Nation of Islam leader Farrankah" tells of Obama's destiny to save the entire world. Say what? I know Obama's church thinks the Nation of Islam is okay, but I don't think the typical American thinks so.

Second article: "Promises & reality set to collide". This article is right on. All the promises sound good, but not one candidate has shown a realistic way to pay for their promises. Obama's plan to pay for all his promises doesn't even come close to paying the actual tab. Likewise for McCain's ideas. The article did say Hillary had a feasible way to pay for her programs, but has yet to address bringing down our nation's deficit. In fact, none of the candidates has shown a way to bring down the deficit. This needs to be done before we face a bursting of our national "bubble".

One more article of note in today's news. Sen. Obama and Sen. Hagel have sponsored a bill in congress to make it madatory for America to give aid to hungry nations. This is a "feel good" bill, but once again, they do not have a plan to pay for it. Where and when will this end? When China lends us enough to own all of our country?

I hope Tuesday's debate asks some tough questions about how much their programs will cost and how they expect to "realistically" pay for their programs while bringing down our national debt at the same time. Now that would be interesting.

Don't look now, but I think the Democrats plan on raising your income taxes. Of course, the Republican's plan just seems to be to "stay the course" and continue to spend more than they take in. One thing for certain, whoever gets elected, we're just going to get screwed again.

I guess many of you do not realize that we are spending 12 BILLION dollars a MONTH in Iraq, with nothing to show for it but almost 4000 service people dead and almost 40,000 with life altering injuries. When we got into this, Bush and company said the Iraq oil would pay for the war. If the oil fields ever get to even 75%, all of the money will have to go to the rebuilding of thier own infastructure the fighting has destroyed.(Baghdaad still has onely 1 hour of electricity in some ares, this in a country were average summer temp areover 120F) Get out of this quagmire, and 144 Billion Dollars a year will cover the cost of the Democrats programs.
By the way, no matter who gets into office your taxes WILL go up, either hidden as fees or increased prices of goods becausse of tarriffs. Bush and CO have given us an unpresedented deficit, we will ave to pay the piper sooner or later or the dollar will be worthless and our recession will become a full fledge depresion.

    • Posted By: StrongArm @ 02/25/2008 3:22:25 PM

And I hope you understand Bush and Cheney are the one's who have us in the fiscal mess we are in, and please don't waste your breath with a response. Tuesday will be great for those who have not made up our minds. I like you want NOTHING but tough questions so we can put an end to comments like yours!!

Mr. Jordan, by appointing people from Washington (Hagel, Bloomberg and Nunn), the very agenda of "change in washington" will lost in Obama's message. I agree with you that Obama needs to get into the general election mode, but he needs to infuse some fresh blood and new perspective into how washington functions....now isn't that Obama'smessage so far?

Mr. Jordan you lay out a brilliant thesis, Bloomberg, Nunn and Hagel would be a great base to show the American people that Obama means change. We the people need change. An Iraq war that is killing our economy , killing our citizens, and killing our country. We need to focus the monies into our cities. Our citizens are not safe to walk the streets, crime is a major issue for the average American. INVEST IN AMERICA FRIST.

Better yet, why not engage Colin Powell as his military affairs advisor and Secretary of Defense...

    • Posted By: lillea @ 02/25/2008 11:15:10 PM

Do you really think that Colin Powell will accept defeat and turn tail and run???? Come on, he is more nobel than that.

Anyone with common sense will not vote for Obama versus McCain. I think there are talkers and doers and Obama is in the wrong business, he should be a Preacher not the leader of this country. His domestic policies are flawed and his foreign policy is devoid of substance. If he is elected get ready for the perhaps the biggest redistribution of wealth, I may think of buying property in Cleveland or Detroit. I am not a huge fan of any of these guys but will base my decsion on the lesser of three evils. Hillary Vs John would be my preferred square off.

Your republican ass wouldn't last 5 minutes in Detroit or Cleveland "whitebread".

    I love him

The problem with this election is that too many people put "getting rid of Bush" and his party ahead of what history has taught us about the dangerous world and the need for an experienced leader who our enemies will respect or at least not walk all over. People have apparently forgotten (and some never knew) about Pearl Harbor, and evils of WW II, or the Korean War or the Cold War when weak or inexperienced leaders would have been a disaster fo the US and the rest of the world. You are right to raise these issues of the qualifications of the candidates to do more than make nice speeches and make us feel good.

I THINK THAT JORDAN'S COMMENTS ARE VALID. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT OBAMA HAS ALREADY BEEN SMART ENOUGH TO THINK ALONG SIMILAR LINES, THAT HE IS OR SOON WILL BE AWARE OF THE PIECE, AND THAT HE WILL CONSIDER ALL SENSIBLE ADVICE. IT APPEARS THAT OBAMA IS ASCENDING AS HE IS NOT BECAUSE THERE IS ANYTHING LACKING IN MC CAIN OR CLINTON, BUT BECAUSE HE HAS THE CONFIDENCE OF KNOWING JUST WHO HE IS AND THAT HE IS OBVIOUSLY A CUT ABOVE THE "OLD GUARD."

Good ideas Hamilton... What I might suggest is that he also do is take a portion of big contributions he's getting on-line and do a "Ross Peroit", a series of half-hour infomercials with lots of charts and graphs and detail. Show how McCains budget plans call for deficits as far as the eye can see. Strip the bark off McCain's claims to fiscal responsibility. Do one on healthcare, point out that McCain has says we have the greatest health care system in the world because he's enjoyed taxpayer paid socialised medicine his entire life. Do one on jobs, growth and training knowledge workers. Do one winning the hearts and minds of those beyond America's shores. Do one on global warming. Run them after 60 minutes on cable, post them on the internet.

If Obama gets the nomination, he may well pick retired General Tony Zinni as his V.P. You could not design nor build a better choice for Obama! Zinni is a Marine's Marine, a guy that under different circumstances, was as much a hero in Vietnam as McCain. He had a brilliant career in the Corps, at times putting his career on the line in order to do the right thing instead of what his superiors wanted. Zinni served in the Gulf War, and served as CENTCOM afterwards. He attempted to tell the Bush administration that the intelligence they were giving the public was totally wrong, but was told his advice wasn't wanted. Zinni would be a crushing blow to the McCain campaign. He has far more national defense and foreign affairs expertise, and, can articulate it much better. His selection would instantly wipe out the McCain gameplan to try and exploit Obama's lack of military service and lack of experience in foreign diplomacy.
He has great respect among many important people in the middle east, and has a history of being able to get things done working with them

LVwatcher, Louis Farrakhan is now irrelevent.
Obama has distanced him self from him.
CNN???s Don Lemon interviewed Louis Farrakhan on March 9, 2007 and this is what he said-
FARRAKHAN: I???m not saying that I???m going to vote for him, but I like him because he???s fresh.
LEMON: Do you think that Barack Obama is the answer to George Bush?
FARRAKHAN: No. I think he???s capable of being an answer, but who will provide him with the money so he can contend with Mrs. Clinton and her big bank, or Giuliani and McCain and their growing bank? So the people that bankroll you, they???re the ones that ultimately call the tune.
LEMON: So what are you saying?
FARRAKHAN: I???m saying that, no matter who sits in the White House, if you don???t uproot the structure that corrupts them, you still don???t have a president, you have a figurehead.
LEMON: Do you think Barack Obama can do that?
FARRAKHAN: No. Absolutely not. He knows some of the ugliness of politics, because he???s been in it long enough, but the real wickedness of the face of politics, you???re looking right into the face of Satan himself, And Satan doesn???t intend to be uprooted by an upstart from Chicago or Ms. Clinton from New York.

I would like to bet that Sen. Obama has all of his ducks lined up as far as his V.P and cabinet !!
Look out Honest John the Truth Train is coming !!!!! coming !!!!

That Barack Obama will need to encircle himself with experienced, senior advisors in order to become a worthy commander-in-chief says it all. John McCain is experienced and proven in domestic and foreign affairs already - before making a single cabinet appointment. Change is fine, but change for its own sake to untested, unproven leadership in today's complex and hostile world is simply ignorant.

As a "slow to come around" Obama supporter-fearing that our country really isn't as progressive as it likes to think in electing a black president-I would agree with your thoughts that his entire campaign has been based on bringing about change and unifying parties. AS a registered "democrat" I often feel there is little difference between parties so placing the telent and expertise in each role necessary to run our country despite their political affiliation sounds like a brilliant idea and would not prevent my vote. In fact it would further stregthen my decision. As much as we all appreciate Sen. McCain's dedication and years of service, I'm not interested in 100 year wars and fighting other countries. I'm interested in seeing our country take the lead once again in ushering peace, improving our economy, healthcare and higher education opportunities. Frankly, I don't think McCain demonstrates his experience in these areas anymore that Barack demonstrates YEARS of Military service. Enough already-let's see some new ideas take a chance with a "blended" party of personnel making it happen!.

Wow someone finally admit Obama is Brilliant. Please keep it quiet thats his secret weapon let his opponents continue to underestimate him and think he is an empty suit running around spreading hope let them think he is an idealist who is rhetoric with no substance. Dont let the cat out of the bag that he is smart. But not only is he smart he has guts. He calls the republicans on their hypocrisy. They question his patriotism he doesnt shrivel up instead he question THEIRS. I think Obama can handle himself with them.
