Thank you, Mr. Jordan. I believe you have performed a great public service--not necessarily by attempting to help Mr. Obama (who I think is underqualified), but in illustrating the importance of the 100 or so UNELECTED folks who the newly elected president will bring with him (e.g., Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Rice).

You have obviously been watching and supporting George W. Bush too long. So you must have noticed where his so called "Integrity" has gotten us. Obama Is so Gifted!, he has both Integrity, Competence and Charisma. Of course his opponents want to focus the later. I am confident that if he continues with his winning game plan and follows the suggestions made in this article, he will surely win in November and become to the Democrats what Regan was to the Republicans. And, I???ll be looking at Conservatives in my rear view mirror.

I believe he can handle it, he is a person who thinks wisely before making decisions. The war in Iraq must end and all the bullshit spending. Clinton seems very ambivalent and is DISTORTED in her facts, except for her UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE which she ha sbeen pushing nearly 13 years ago. There are a lot of *** that will come out against Obama, but he has to stand firm , and mostly speak about the issues.

I don't want Obama as president. I do not like him. He is an opportunistic neophyte, a novice with very little experience. Grant it, he is a smooth talker and charismatic, but that does not make a good president. He rallies the crowds and they seem to be mesmerized by him. Not a good sign! Where is the substance? Being a good talker and able to rally crowds is not good enough for me, and should not be for anyone else either for that matter. It sure is slim pickings this year. Hillary is a disaster, too.

Where you see a "smooth talker", I think most people see charisma. Do you not think Obama has integrity? I think integrity trumps experience when voting for a President - a person of experience isn't necessarily a person of quality, but a person with integrity can at least be trusted to listen to the experts around them.

Obama will be a good President and the critics are quick to use the "experience" line. John McCain and Hillary has experience and they both voted for the war. McCain has said we'll be in Iraq for 100 years. Is this the kind of experience we need? I think not.

An excellent overview on how inclusive politics works. I think Obama would be wise to include the best and brightest in his cabinet--regardless of party or political persuation. I agree that Bloomberg, Nunn, and Hagel all fit that bill. Each of them seems to put what is right ahead of what is expedient. I think Obama is of the same mindset. I believe your advice would help him shape this as a race truly as one that is a choice between the status quo and one that advocates pragmatic solutions to big problems.

  • Posted By: DoveSong @ 02/25/2008 2:40:10 PM

My thought exactly. But who am I, just another "drone" who blindly follows? - Not! Those of us who are choosing Obama are intelligent citizens fed up with the way Washington does business. They have left decency out of the image of America. Obama will restore our place in the world. I believe that great minds think alike, and so he is probably already surrounding himself with the best and the brightest. I think those cabinet members are already on his team - or watching and waiting for the word.

Thoughtful article. I like the idea of a Republican on Obama's team. I do wish Obama could have the time to think strategically about the general election. Unfortunately, the Democrats' version of Mike Huckabee is still in the race and may refuse to bow out before the convention. So much for doing what is best for her party. Sigh.

You're being presumptuous, aren't you? Obama will never get near the Oval office unless he gets a personal tour from John McCain or Hillary Clinton....As for running a brilliant campaign, it's pretty easy to do if nobody has the balls to investigate, vilify or even question you. Your article is nothing more than the usual fluff coming for magazine. Don't you think the Amercian people are going to catch on to the mass media's game plan pretty soon. What are you going to do then.....

lamm01: I'm with you. This is just another piece of fiction writing to sell advertising on the internet.

Hopefully, neither one of you will take part in this year's election, the article was great and makes suggestions that make sense.

Such a strong response... How odd, you people are here. You act as if there is a difference between any of the candidates. All I see is just three white men. One's old, feeble, and can't speak for ***, let alone inspire anyone. The other's still shittin in diapers, preaching like a southern Baptist about change, and the other is just... creepy... That's just personality. All three of them will continue to drag the country to hell. So then why continue to act as if it matters?

    • Posted By: StrongArm @ 02/25/2008 3:14:46 PM

Thanks for your response! It's nice to know YOU won't bother mucking up the process by voting. And btw, don't come and hop on the bandwagon 2 years from now, WE DON'T want you!!!

  • Posted By: faramade @ 02/25/2008 2:54:16 PM

    To Tommypie :
Your fear is unfounded, majority of Obama voters are well educated so this notion that he is using oratory skill to get people to vote for him is absurd, it looks more like another Clinton tactics of attacking any state Obama won as "they don't matter" states so now his voters too don't matter.

  • Posted By: paulte @ 02/25/2008 2:53:47 PM

I always find it strange how Obama's race seems to be a non-issue in his bid for the White House by the media. America has matured on the race issue but not to that extent. There has to be a certain percentage of people out there who will just not vote for a black man for President. From what I've read at least 36% of the registered voters would never vote for Hillary Clinton. How about some polling on what percentage would never vote for Obama for whatever reason?

This article proves my point. How the likely candidates will joust with each other will determine the outcome in November the article maintains. Race and for that matter age and a Muslim connection are not factors. The media is very blind. I believe the number of people who don't like McCain but will vote for him (age notwithstanding) as an anti-vote, any anti-Hillary or anti-Obama will almost or perhaps even exceed the number of people who will be voting for John McCain. I fall into the first category because I am a conservative faced with a candidiate I don't like but I dislike Democrats more!

  • Posted By: curryjm @ 02/25/2008 2:53:21 PM

Sorry, but this kind of planning works both ways. John McCain will be up and running with a proposed cabinet long before the Democrats get their act together.

  • Posted By: l2nguyen @ 02/25/2008 2:47:22 PM

I love Mr. Jordan's idea of a shadow cabinet in waiting for Barack Obama's campaign! I think it will help build confindence and provide a perfect platform for going after McCain and GWBush on a host of issues.

Brilliant observation! Unlike some of the previous comments that sit in some murky area between social blindness, fear and apathy I think that you have a valid point. If after March 4th it appears that he will become the democratic nominee such a move would go a long way into assuring America, our allies and our foes that he is a true pragmatic problem solver as well as an inspirational leader.

I absolutely agree with your suggestion regarding potential cabinet members. It's not so much that some of these individuals are "Independents" or "Republicans" per se, but they seem to function outside of partisan ideology. As an "Independent" myself, I find it refreshing that we may be able to get past dogma and place country before party.

  • Posted By: DoveSong @ 02/25/2008 2:33:33 PM

I agree totally! I have been thinking of the same strategies for him, but who am I? I am one of those "drones" who blindly follow - NOT! We the People are thinkers and intelligent citizens who have chosen a bright and genius leader to help change our country. I am sure everyone on his team is thinking this way, too. He will undoubtedly choose the best and the brightest cabinet. He probably have them in mind now. I think the guns are already loaded...

Good ideas. I hope that General Zinni will also be a key person in the Obama administration.
