Comment: The press will turn on Obama, and then blame America for putting him in office. Basically, we are all a bunch of sheep searching always for that guy we can have a beer with -- evidently that's the only qualification for becoming the Leader of the Fee World.

Comment: As an over age 50 woman, I have been fighting my whole adult life for
equality, fairness and the rights of the ordinary people. I for one was
a pioneer in the field of police officers. When I became a patrol
officer in the 1970's they still refer to me as a policeman. Most women
in my age group have made a change in the United States to turn back

discrimination in all areas of the work force. I felt bad after not

being able to vote by my party in the primary, but was hopeful I could

vote for Hillary Clinton in the main election. The speech by Senator

Kennedy excluded me completely. If this had been a fair fight, I might

have voted for Senator Obama but now if he gets nominated, I'm staying

home. I'm sure that other women ages of 50+ feel this way also. I hope

the youth and black vote will carry Obama through, But I won't be there.

I have no use for a party who would turn the page and leave me out. I

hope Senator Obama will remember us and not leave us out of his 3 R

speech again. Perhaps he should add the letter S to soothe some of us.

Other wise, Senator McCain may want our vote.

Comment: A woman who shows ambition and directness is shunned for having qualities that only men are admired for having. A man who shows modesty and optimism is admired for having qualities that women in patriarchal societies are expected to have. A double standard, anyone? As a women in a professional leadership role, I'm here to testify that it is a very difficult and lonely struggle having to deal with the unconscious maternal projections that people place on me -- and their subsequent rage when I have to make decisions that are not always comforting and easy to hear. Thank goodness racism has been (by-and-large) exposed for the scourge it is on human relations. We have a long, long way to go before sexism is exposed for the devastating and sinful ways it perverts and distorts human relations.

Comment: I am not sure who wrote this story but I am sure that person does drugs while writing. As a woman, I can say that I have never been more offended by a candidates sexist comments than the ones that I have heard from BO. He is constantly saying that Hillary Clinton is 'whining' or 'complaining'. I know without a doubt that if he were were engaged in a contest with a man that these comments would not be uttered. They would be replaced by compliments for his opponent for 'raising his concerns' or 'voicing his opinion' or 'being an advocate for himself'. It will take MUCH more than these types of articles to brainwash women into believing that BO could be the 1st 'woman' president. Please give us more credit that that!!!!

He intends to challenge whatever you held true before you read this article and only "real Leader" will emerge unscathed.

Comment: This is one of the most asinine things I have ever read. PLEASE. Now you want a black and a woman in the same body! Do you think that will ensure victory?

Here's why I support Hillary Clinton, 100%. I know her.

Here's why I do not support Barack Obama. I don't know him.

By the way, did you know Ted Sorensen, JFK inspirational speechwriter (and the author of his book, "Profiles in Courage" is helping Obama with his speeches. One of Obama's main speechwriters worked with Sorensen on his memoirs, which will be published in May on his 80Th birthday, for the past 6 years. That is why many oldies say Obama "sounds like JFK." Actutally he sounds like Ted Sorensen.

If Great Speech Making is the criterion for electing a President, we should elect Ted Sorensen, and he is only 6 years older than John McCain.

Senator Kennedy encouraged Senator Obama to run when Senator Obama, himself, said only 3 years ago, when asked about running for National office, "You know, I am a believer in knowing what your're doing when you apply for a job. And I think that if I were to seriously consider running on a National ticket, I would essentially have to start now, before having served a day in the Senate (U.S. Senate). Now there are some people who ;might be comfortable doing that, but I'm not one of those people." He sure changed his mind after serving barely 2 years in the U.S. Senate.

As far as those "racist" remarks by President Clinton, give me a break. They were NOT racist in any way. You have been listening to, too many talking heads. Look on youtube.com for "Clinto Jesse Jackson South Carolina" and you can see EXACTLY what President Clinton said, and in what context.

He was asked by a "reporter," What does it say about Senator Obama that it takes TWO OF YOU to beat him?" After you see the video, I think you will agree that President Clinton's response to the impudent reporter was NOT racist in any way.

Comment: The American Black community claims that they want to live in a society where discrimination doesn't exist, but they don't practice what they preach. when Obama continually pulls 90%+ of the black vote, it's obvious that most blacks are voting for a candidate because of skin color. Then ALL white/Hispanics and Latino vote for Clinton, she too WILL MAKE HISTORY for all woman of any color! Black men were given the vote a half-century before women of any race were allowed to mark a ballot, and generally have ascended to positions of power, from the military to the boardroom, before any women .Why is the sex barrier not taken as seriously as the racial one? Why is the black candidate given the continued media free pass and coronation and refusing to discuss his record. My family and friends have been following the 2008 Presidential election and feel overwhelming compelled to express our sadness, disgust witnessing the continued unfair disturbing treatment that Senator Clinton continually receives from men in the media. WE were frankly surprised to see how many men are threatened by Senator Clinton???s abilities, just read the articles. The daily gender discrimination and horrible names Senator Clinton is called, forced my family and friends to research candidates like obama ourselves since the media is no longer fair and unbiased. A black man has a better chance in this country than a white woman. It???s a shame that media keeps the race issue going in an attempt to disguise their gender discrimination against smart educated and powerful women. WE are tired of the race card that the media is creating and pushing in the face of voters. The media has dropped the ball. We the viewers and most importantly the VOTERS looked to news stations and newspapers for unbiased FACTS about ALL the presidential candidates to assist voters on making a wise and educated decision on who will run our country. Unfortunately you prove daily/hourly that your biased and often racial tabloid news It???s a disservice to our great country that you attack and discriminate a white female Senator and Former two term First lady who has done a great deal of good in 35 years of political service to our country that is dismissed and ignored for fear of upsetting a black candidate and his racial supporters. You should be ATLEAST reporting the differences and giving obama the same microscopic personal attacks that you continue to do to a white female United States Senator. You have no credibility in reporting the news. If we wanted this type of so-called news, we can buy the National Enquire. Women in this country should stand up and not be bullied by these men who do all they can to keep women underpaid and treated unfairly.

Comment: This article is merely another illustration of stereotyping in our society. Linsky places Clinton and Obama into categories of what are traditionally thought to be "feminine" and "masculine" qualities. If he were to discard that approach and instead focus on each candidate's actual experience and qualifications, this article might be useful in determining who would be a better president.

Comment: I agree with the person who advocated boycotting Democratic party. If Clinton is not on the ticket,I will look for a 3rd party.Democratic party needs to step up to the plate to stop this abuse of a woman candidate,on a daily basis. If Obama were treated like this ,I am sure the party would rebuke those as racist and would say that kind of behavior is not acceptable. If a woman is ill treated,it's obviously okay..boys will be boys.A party or a paper(or news magazine)that does not value a woman, has no value for me.

Comment: Read how terrible they talk about Hillary in this article. Totally unfair is the media!!!

Re ???Begrudging His Bedazzling,??? by Maureen Dowd (column, Feb. 27):

Ms. Dowd says Hillary Rodham Clinton is lame for accusing journalists of treating her campaign differently than they treat Barack Obama???s, and applauds the ???open-mindedness of the press??? in its treatment of Senator Clinton.

Here are the words she uses in association with Senator Clinton: ???desperate,??? ???primal scream,??? ???clanging,??? ???churlish,??? ???discombobulated,??? ???gloomy,??? ???flipping,??? ???begrudging,??? ???whining,??? ???experience,??? ???pea green with envy,??? ???Sybil,??? ???cascading,??? ???dizzying,??? ???unsettling,??? ???struggling,??? ???tartly,??? ???peevishly,??? ???pointlessly,??? ???sarcasm.???

And here are the words she uses for Senator Obama: ???golden child,??? ???sunny,??? ???consistency,??? ???bedazzling,??? ???confidence,??? ???excitement,??? ???exceptionally easy in his skin.???

If Ms. Dowd wants to make the point that she doesn???t like Senator Clinton, then she???s made it. If she wants to make the point that the press treats Mrs. Clinton fairly, contrary to what the senator may believe, then this column, alas, has made Senator Clinton???s point.

Comment: Wow! Newsweek is just as sexist as the rest of the media. You guys call this journalism? I do not think so. Anyone with half a brain will see this article for what it is-sexist.
Does not surprise me. If you look at our country's history-blacks were allowed to vote before women.
Unfortunately, sexism is still widespread and par for the course. With racism though, people get fired in their jobs and raked over the coals of even slight racial undertones. Newsweek=sexist pigs

Comment: I advise all women Democrats to terminate their affilliation with the Democratic party in protest to show that we do not accept a party that allows the belittlement of a female candidate solely based on gender, and deems it normal what we experience on a daily basis in the workplace, that a woman has to be three times better than a male counterpart to be considered an equal.
I don't know how we can expect change from a party that tolerates this kind of blatent sexism.

Comment: Hilary Clinton has NOT LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE!

Hilary Clinton is deluding herself that amassing information is the same as amassing LEADERSHIP SKILLS!

A nation needs a LEADER; because any computer today can amass information.

Hilary can't even run an efficient and successful national campaign.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, has been a Community Organizer, of the very people who are going to vote for him!

Also, just take a look at the Obama $250m national campaign, which is organized in a year to run intelligently, efficiently and successfully?
Senator Obama's national campaign is HISTORIC in so many ways!

Now, that's demonstration of LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE!

Comment: You can say this only because he has won a few states and you know why - Media Bias against Clinton and the bias for Obama. If she had won a few more states, this argument about successful campaign will not hold. The point is being in public office directly or indirectly, you do accrue a few enemies, which Obama never had to face yet.
And who is this 'leader' looking to for information in those debates mimicking exactly wahtever she says.
And who is this 'leader' looking to lift words from for his teleprompter ridden inspirational speeches - another 'leader' who failed on promises and rhetoric and whose state went to Hillary. You cannot fool all the people all the time and Massachusetts proved that.

Comment: Why are we as Americans so willing to support Obama? We know everything about Hillary and wether we agree with her methods or not we have to admit she has done quite a bit of good for our country. There is no doubt that she is in this with good intentions. Obama on the other hand has a past that we cannot be 100% sure of and though he makes it all sound good we really have no clue what this mans intention is and who his loyalty is with. As Americans are we really naive enough to turn our Country over to someone that we really and truly dont know? What if this is one of the many people in this world that was raised from birth to hate us. Why take the chance?

Comment: Your last two questions pretty much sum up your perspective. Who is the "us" you associate yourself with, the European-American "us", the Jewish-American "us", the blue-collar/working class "us"? Last I checked Sen. Obama was one of "us", born on native soil, pledging allegiance to our flag. As an American, protected under "our" Constitution, I know that the ???Executive??? is not a King and that we cannot turn our Country over to one supreme ruler. The Judiciary and Legislative provide the Checks & Balances that I need, to know that no individual can usurp my ???US??? of America.

Comment: Your last two questions pretty much sums up your perspective, you believe that Sen. Obama is not one of "us". Is that the European-American "us", the Republican-American "us", the Jewish-American "us"? Last I checked, he was an "US" Citizen, born on American soil, initially serving Illinois-Americans and now looking to serve all "US" Americans.

  • Posted By: collegevoter @ 02/28/2008 3:29:31 AM

Comment: Maureen Dowd wrote basically the same article in the New York Times.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/24/opinion/24dowd.html

It talked about how Obama had more of an emotive, feeling, empathy-driven leadership style than Hillary. Since so many women are apparently appalled by this article I hope they will go to the link and express the same shock and condemnation at her (a female author) as they did at this article. If the objection is really on the substance of this article, with all due respect, please, I would hope that you would do so. Since the premise was first introduced by a woman not a man.

Obama is the chair of a senate subcommittee that has not met. Why? Because he was too busy running for President. How can we entrust our country to someone this irresponsible? Also, if we vote for Obama based on fluff and feel good articles then it shows how stupid the Obamites really are. Obama will be another failure. Remember Jimmy Carter. Everybody wanted change then. But of course, real christains never bother with the parts of the Bible that purport loving your enemy, but are well schooled in the biblical accountings of jewish war history . REMEBER, AFTER THE OLD TESTAMENT CAME THE NEW TESTAMENT. AFTER THE RULE OF LAW CAME THE MERCY OF GRACE. AFTER AN EYE FOR AN EYE CAME TURN THE OTHER CHEEK. I do not know why fundamentalists just don't get rid of the New Testament, because apart from Jesus crucifixion and the Apocalypse, none of the teachings of love, acceptance and toleranceI have no relevance to the modern American ultra-conservative born-again Christian. I promise you all, one reward that won't be given on the day of judgement is a "Prize for Ignorance and Intolerance for Jesus.

Comment: Why was this article even written? Just more media hype flagrantly biased toward BHO. Is there another article favoring Clinton somewhere on "Page One" that I somehow missed? Seems that would be the fair way to treat her. I've quit watching the television coverage of 'Vote '08'. I've yet to find an internet MSM site that is giving her a fair shake. BHO has been handed the nomination by the media. I am sincerely asking here: Is there a nonbiased media site ANYWHERE? If so, will someone please post a link?

Comment: Are you CRAZY? They completely ignored Obama until he won Iow and it was obvious that he had built a HUGE grassroots movement that they had hugely underestimated. They placed Hillary out there is the presumptive nominee from the very beginning before that! He's been "handed the nomination" by the over one million individuals who have donated to his campaign (pretty sure that's a record) and by the millions who have voted for him, all the people who have gotten involved volunteering, phone banking, canvassing, etc. Hillary can't compete against a movement of young people engaged, and the media couldn't keep ignoring that! Sorry, I know she thinks it was like her time and this bad boy just came and stole it from her, boo hoo - but she wasn't owed anything!

Most people are reacting to the position their candidate is in and being overly sensitive. Everyone can atest to the fact how Hilliary presents herself as a tough womoan who is a fighter and how Barack contributes a calm, inclusive nature with a propensity to bring people together.

Comment: This article illustrates, in a backhanded and extremely sexist way, how Hillary Clinton would make the best leader, McCain second best, and Obama worst. Bravo Newsweek. Your magazine, along with all the rest of the mainstream media, have successfully murdered the Clinton campaign. Now you've even taken away her status as the first woman to have a real shot at the Presidency and given it to Obama. Again, bravo!

Comment: The primaries show that color is far less important to a surprising number of White voters than gender. It would appear that average White Americans are less racist but more sexist than most of us used to think. Of course the gender vote may have been distorted partly by Mrs. Clinton excessive emphasis on being the feminist candidate, whereas Obama always campaigns as the candidate of ALL Americans.

Last I checked, there are more "White" woman registered to vote than any other, so your premise that White Americans are more sexist than racist is absurd, "White" Women must be self-deprecating and hating themselves by not supporting Hillary, or maybe ??? just maybe they???re not practicing sexism, by not supporting Hillary solely because she???s a woman and not the best candidate?

I'm sure that most people go to churches or other religious institutions where the majority of the people look like them. I never thought I???d see the day when the Media is afraid to say a black person???s middle name.

Obama belongs to a church in which the pastor praises Farrakhan and as I learned on Fox teaches the Black Value System and focuses on black people! Why are non blacks NOT outraged? Instead of outrage, Americans of all colors and ethnicities embraces him. What is wrong with you?! PEOPLE WAKE UP!! Why am I the only one outraged!!

To my non black Americans and non racist black Americans, why aren???t you banning together to fight this and let it be known that the preferential treatment has to stop and that you are not going to support ANY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE that attends a church that focuses on one race for TWENTY years.

If the other candidates attended a Pro Whites Only church, there would be hell to pay. There would be blacks protesting and screaming racism. Why isn???t this so for Obama?
It is making me sick in my stomach to see what is happening and to see White America and other non blacks Americans just sit up here and take it!

DO WE WANT A MAN WHO HAS BELONGED TO A BLACK SEPARIST CHURCH FOR 20 YEARS TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF THIS COUNTRY?

    • Posted By: any1butDem @ 02/27/2008 12:50:02

Comment: Actually, I think Idecordre has been in this country long enough to understand it's principles. You on the other hand, ObamaforPEZ, have a complete lack of appreciation and gratitude for the very Patriotism that this country's strength was built on. Patriotism comes in one flavor which is a red, white and blue love for the country. It's the very patriotism you criticize that carried this country through such events as Pearl Harbor and September 11th. Without this patriotism, this country would have fallen long ago to the Germans or even communism. A very weak willed approach such as yours will cost us our freedom someday just because you want to bash patriotism. Why do you bash it? Obviously because your favorite candidate hasn't figured out the importance of patriotism either. I am not claiming the current administration is perfect. Far from it actually but I will take them over the empty suit talking head of Obama.

The beauty of this is that every time I put a U.S. Army uniform on, I get to think ... wow ... I get to be a defender of freedom for people like yourself to bash other Americans over PATRIOTISM ... something you have no idea about. Don't ever talk down to any naturalized citizen of this country again for they have a better understanding about patriotism and this country's greatness and how THE TWO GO HAND IN HAND than you ever will! Don't call these people fools and scoundrels over patriotism. How dare you! You don't have the right to criticize the very principle that gives you the right to spew this crap rhetoric.

He diverges from the obvious thesis at the end to make a personal argument favoring John McCain without first providing any substantive argument of evidence earlier in the essay. He does seem to have used proper spelling, punctuation ,and grammar. However, I'm going to have to recommend that professor Linsky take a few of the essay writing and lower division English classes they offer there at Harvard so that he can learn to avoid ad homonim argument and develop his thesis properly.

    Clinton - Great Debate
Bottom line - stop the bickering and the front runner should oust Mr. McCain in November. Democrats focus on the bottom line. Obama and Clinton both have commendable backgrounds and experience in fighting for the people not the rich so don't minimize his standards nor miminize hers. He is leading in the polls and won 10 straights States that should amount to something. ORDINARY PEOPLE WANT CHANGE NOT SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN THERE AND IS USE TO THE SAME OLD POLITICS. I TRULLY BELIEVE HE WILL MAKE A DIFFENCE AND THE DEMOCRATS SHOULD BE PROUD.

Comment: no one implied that Hillary is not capable of running the country. The facts are we need new leadership Bill Clinton had his run in the white house. We need someone new and fresh. He along with Clinton have fought for this country and are very intelligent. If we don't stand up now and make some changes. We will suffer big time. If you think times are bad now just let Mr. McCain win office. Again I say Obama is leading Mr. McCain by a big margin and the democrats needs to come together and stand together to make this necesary change. When you compare the two at the end of the day they both stated numerous of times they respect one another and there accomplishments so we should not try to down play what neither has done for this country. I commend everyone who is standing with Obama because new leadership is exactly what we need. Stop the bickering and do something.

And all the while we've been arguing back and forth about gays and abortion and getting nothing done on the home front!!! I can tell you the last one and that was in Iran in the 70s (remember back that far) under a Democratic Administration. And which grand image are you referring to? Pre-Bush? The guy has made mistakes, yes, but are you really trying to say that before him we had some great image in the world. Reminder, 9/11 happened at the start of his Administration but was in the plans for years (hmmm ... Clinton days). And sure, I too would like to see something happen to help in places like Rawanda and Darfur but then we get situations like Somalia again where we put our troops in difficult situations and get accused of meddling again.

You mentioned a situation from World War II earlier and that itself is hysterical as people in this country during that time would have had a field day with you for calling Patriotism "rhetoric" ... At this point, Otrauma keeps throwing the word "change" around so much that it is not just rhetoric anymore but it is cliche. Comment: Great article. Very insightful, and I think accurate. One of the ironies of Hillary's campaign is that she has continued to sell her masculinity, her toughness, as though we somehow need to be convinced that she is man enough for the job. What strikes me as odd about that is that was the one question about Hillary that was always settled in my own mind, long before this campaign began. I can't imagine that anyone anywhere thought she wasn't tough enough for the job, or enough of a fighter. That's more or less a given.
I was looking for other things from Hillary in this campaign. I wanted to see her humanness, her heart. I wanted to see if she had the ability to listen, instead of talking incessantly. On the practical side, I also wanted to see how well she would manage her campaign, the kind of people she would surround themselves with and their effectiveness, and how she would manage husband Bill.
After months of intensive campaigning, I'd give her a C+ or possibly B-. She has showed her heart at times, but she is a horrible listener. And, her campaign theme might best be described as "Ready, Fire, Aim." It's been all over the place. It hasn't been well-managed from any point of view. Her time has been overpaid and consistently under-performing. Husband Bill made major blunders, so much so that he might have cost her the election.
Still, all I really know about Hillary is that she's tough enough and a fighter, and that still seems to be all she wants to tell me.

The author has selectively picked his examples and ignored ones that don't support his argument.

Comment: Gosh, it so easy to "face" anything after the fact. No one outside of Trinity Church even cared what he thought until after 2006. All the armchair QBs of the world try to play smart now but when it was happening none of you had anything to say.

Comment: What you say is true, but the implications are horrendous. Obama is weak, and the last thing we ned is a weak president. The woman in this race is the strong one, and we desperately need someone strong and experienced to fix this country. Obama will go talk to the evil leaders of the world without preparation and come home losing and crying. If you want a rock star, vote for Brittany Spears.

Comment: I'm surprised Russert did not also ask Clinton to spell the Russian presidents name. The SNL skit caught the media bias to love Obama to a T.

Comment: I voted for Hillary, and do believe the free ride for Obama is now over. The Drudge type of scum are already in full swing, along with the swift boaters who having called McCain a collaborator are foaming at the mouth to get at a black man. Drudge put those photos up and said they came from Clinton, with no proof, setting up both for negative agitprop.
