Great article, it shows that the place that many of high society thought was below them to shop at is going to be the only place to shop in the a min. They have to take in account the rise in inflation and the decline in the economy in their sales, yet they continue to grow. The article raises good points of how society would spend ridiculous amounts on coffee and chocolate just to say they are consuming that product but go to Wal-Mart, Costco, or Target for the necessity items. We are just a people who are so consumed by image or our wants that we have driven ourselves into debt.

The other issues that will be raised if stores continue to close and Wal-mart does continue to thrive are the monopoly factor they will possess. For at that point they can price items at what they want for there will be no competitors have price wars with. This goes back to the mom and pop issues/ debate that Wal-Mart has had for years. But we shall see what happens as the economy and time continues to go on.

Sorry, but if Wal-Mart is making more money it's because they raised their prices--contrary to their own claims. I shop there every week and in the last 5 weeks the local store is nearly empty. When they yet again raised the price of cat food another 10%, for a total of 25% in the last four months, I put stuff back on the shelves and went to Dollar General instead.
