Though I disagree with Mr. Buckley's ideals and even been disappointed at some comments he made, I do respect his intelletual conservatism. I wish that the so-called republican base with its conservative roots would actually take the political debate to a higher level. But the problem is that the republican base and its mouthpiece of Fox News never take the high road and actually give an intellectual answer to their conservative beliefs. I'm tired of conservatives or others in the right using dead-end arguments, red herrings, or even hate speech in order to get their point across. If you really believe in what your talking about, then have something to back it up with, not just talking points and punch lines to support their views. Why has public debate got dumber and less articulate over the past couple of decades?
There are those who hope to out-Buckley Buckley. But this is an impossible task. William F. Buckley so clearly articulated a thoughtful conservative vision that every person listened - whether they agreed or not.
