Comment: Hey folks, I'm no saint but if you are a supporter of Obama please comment with respect towards his opponent as I think he would do just that. Regardless of what the Clinton's pull (as we all can see) the truth has its way of surfacing. Some of the comments on these blogs are fit for personal email exchange only.

I want a female President too. But we have to be careful in our selection of female candidates. Remember this lesson from history: Geraldine Ferraro's cheating on her taxes KILLED women's political chances at the Presidency until now, 25 years later.

Oh, yeah, Hillary hasn't released her tax returns yet. Are you old enough to recall what happened to Ferraro's candidacy after she released her tax returns? She got flushed down the toilet, and with her went the dreams of millions of American women. I don't want to give away the next 25 years to Hillary Clinton's mistakes.

Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll still be alive in 25 years, when Obama's daughter will run for President.

And maybe if I'm really, really lucky, Obama's daughter will turn out to be a Republican.

Comment: A blogger named Edson writes "Did the word Democrat really come from democracy?"

Here is a derivation of the words "Democrat" and "Republican."

The United States of America is a republic, that is to say, a Federal government in which the people are represented by elected officials from the various states. Before we were a republic, we were a democracy made up of 13 individual states that were not united. A democracy is a form of government where the individual citizens have the right to speak their minds and influence the political discourse. Democracy was named after Demosthenes, a citizen of ancient Greece with a speech impediment who practiced talking with his mouth full of pebbles to overcome his disability. Demosthenes later became a great political orator. This is where the Democrats derive their name.

The original Republicans were in favor of the states joining to form a republic (which is how that party got it's name). The original Democrats were opposed to this idea, they represented the individual states and were worried that the republic could gain too much power over the states, and through the exercise of tyranny, deny individuals their freedom. Trust me, people were pretty passionate about their liberty in those days, having just fought for independence from England. The Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were all hammered out by serious-minded men who sought to balance the need for individual freedom with our shared common cause, the needs for united strength and social order. Balancing the rights of the individual against the rights of the whole society is what America is all about. This is not only a great achievement for our nation, it is one of the greatest achievements of mankind. And we have, by and large, been true to our ideals over the past 227 years. The system of government we initially established, although needing occasional revisions, has stood the test of time.

Let's not forget where we started from, that impulse towards equality and freedom.

America is, with all it's faults, a meritocracy. Most of our founding fathers would never have had a voice in the 18th century English government they rebelled against, a monarchy where you had to be born into power. In America it was different. If you had intelligence, passion, ambition, drive, talent and a little luck, you could change the world.

This is the real secret to Obama's popularity. This is why a white, conservative middle-aged female Republican like me wants to vote for him. He's got that blend of intelligence, passion, ambition, drive and talent. I'm giving him my vote to proffer him the last ingredient, a little luck, so I can watch our Republican Democracy in action, and once again change the world.

    IN GOD WE TRUST

Comment: The Clintons hushed up a federal report issued in 1994 that warned of possible terrorist strikes, including how hijackers could use airliners to hit landmarks such as the Pentagon or White House. The excuse for the secrecy was that they didn???t want to cause panic. (To preserve the ???fairytale??? world image that the Clintons had promoted, ???don???t act, don???t tell???) . So far, the media and the opposition have refrained from reminding the public about the bitter terrible truth. That they FAILED to focus on terrorism, and FAILED to focus on Osama bin Laden. They FAILED miserably to focus an all-out effort to capturing or killing Osama bin Laden. The CIA report states that they were not authorized to ???kill??? bin Laden by the Corrupt Clintons. The Clintons attorney briefed the CIA on Bill???s special instructions: if the CIA captured him they were to make every effort to ensure his comfort. Comfort for a killer? CIA reports described building a custom-built ergonomically correct chair for the tall terrorist. Details of concern were the comfort of the shackles. Osama bin Laden had a long beard. The CIA was told that caution needed to be taken that the tape needed to gag bin Laden would not harm his beard. The Clintons were so cautious of international repercussions that they managed to obstruct and delay the capture of a most-wanted criminal. They had several opportunities, two terms in office, with much power at their command. Yet, they undeniably, unforgivably FAILED. This should be most memorable non-accomplishment of the eight years under the Teflon Team.
The 9/11 Commission, appointed to investigate the Al Qaeda attacks, would assess the Clinton Administration preceding 9/11. Clinton appointed Berger to act as his representative, Berger was given access to the highly classified material in the National Archives relating to 9/11. Berger testified at the hearing that Clinton did all he could to deal with terrorist threats. Later, when it was learned that Berger had removed Archive documents, the DOJ accepted his testimony that he had only taken some copies of reports to review, and returned them later, except for a few duplicates. Berger got off with a plea deal, surrendered his license to practice law and was not required to take a lie detector test. It was later discovered that MISSING DOCUMENTS from the Archives included CRITICAL ASSESSMENTS OF THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION HANDLING OF TERRORIST THREATS. It is not known what was in those documents that Berger risked his reputation, career and imprisonment for, and compromised the entire 9/11 investigation. The information could have provided answers to what went wrong before 9/11 and what COULD HAVE/SHOULD HAVE been done to prevent further attacks.
Proving loyalty has its rewards, Hillary selected Sandy Berger to be on her team of National Security Advisors

Comment: Sorry, I'm a middle aged white female professional who has felt the glass ceiling, but I can't identify with Hillary or with Geraldine Ferraro AT ALL. Ferraro's recent racist comments regarding Obama's skin color are despicable. And though I can fully appreciate what Hillary has accomplished, I have to disapprove of what she has done to get there. Not even mentioning the many shady deals in the Clintons' past, or Bill's out-of-control libido, I am appalled by what Hillary is doing to the Democratic party right now. It's a power play she should be ashamed of, her attitude of "take no prisoners and seize power at any cost." Her insistence on taking this to the superdelegate level and cutting a back room deal that disenfranchises the actual voters is a reprehensible replay of the 2000 Bush/Gore debacle. The problem with stealing elections is that it opens the door for a political free-for-all in which the individual voter's ballots have no meaning and elections are only for show. That's called fascism/dictatorship/communism (take your pick). It certainly is not democracy. So, even though I'm a feminist, I can't be swayed by feminist rhetoric when I see crimes against the American people being committed in the name of "girl power." I want a female President too. But consider how damaging it will be to women's future chances in politics, if our first female commander in chief is hated by the people for her skulduggery and election fraud.

And remember how Geraldine Ferraro's cheating on her taxes KILLED women's political chances at the Presidency until now, 25 years later. I don't want to give away the next 25 years to Hillary Clinton's mistakes.

Oh, yeah, Hillary hasn't released her tax returns yet. Are you old enough to remember what happened to Ferraro's candidacy after she released her tax returns? She got flushed down the toilet, and with her went the dreams of millions of American women.

Comment: IT SEEMS TO ME THAT DEMOCRATS ARE THE PEOPLE WHO SHOULD LEARN HARD
LESSONS FROM THE PAST. IT IS TIME TO TURN THE PAGE, SAY GOODBYE TO THE
CLINTONS AND TRY TO ENSURE THAT BARACK OBAMA IS THE NEXT DEMOCARTIC
NOMINEE. HE IS THE ONE WHO CAN DEFEAT JOHN MCCAIN IN NOVEMBER.

Comment: When is the media stop projecting and building up Obama. It is sickening to see CNN and NBC analysts or whatever they call themselves talking about him and trying to make a case for his candidacy. Though I liked him first, this media partsanship is making me drift away from him.

Comment: When will the media stop fawning over Obama? and ask him some tough questions?

    • Posted By: GirlOver45 @ 03/14/2008 13:19:18

Comment: He's had tough questions you just don't want truthful answers. Some people's brain is impermeable. Didn't you listen to the 20 debates?

Comment: This is a paraphrase of a previous comment by Thubba421. It's worth repeating:

When will the media finally ask Hillary Clinton "WHAT EXPERIENCE?"

Clinton is making a baseless assertion that she has "35 years" of relevant political experience. She must be counting the 16 years she spent at Rose law firm (1977-1993), specializing in representing mega-corporations such as Wal-Mart and Tyson Foods. Wal-Mart, famous or it's union busting and sexism, paid Clinton $18,000 per year for serving on it's Board of Directors, plus $1,500 per meeting and gave her $100,000 worth of Wal-Mart stock. And how could Hillary have been involved in foreign policy matters if she never had a security clearance, never attended a single NSA briefing, or received any of Bill's foreign policy briefings? The truth is that after she tried to force her health care plan down people's throats and it blew up in her face, Hillary was a relegated to relatively traditional role for the First Lady: showing her smiling face at events relating to women and children, and occasionally traveling on "good will missions" to other countries. She doesn't want to release the records of her schedule as First Lady, because people would see that she spent 8 years giving tea parties. For the facts that back up these assertions, see these websites:

    http://www.slate.com/id/2182073/
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18391632
    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18335120

When will people notice that Hillary has only 8 years in elected office, compared to Obama's 12 years? But, even if it were true that she had "35 years" of relevant experience, democracy is not a quid pro quo. Americans aren't interested in being told by ANY candidate that they are "entitled" to be their party's nominee. The last thing Americans want is another "inevitable" president put in place by political elites because of who they know, just like "W" Bush, who arguably may be the worst president in history. Puppet leaders of the United States, not elected by the people but engineered by a political machine? Elections where your ballots are meaningless? Is that what you want, America? If we let this happen, how can we call ourselves "the land of the free?"

Comment: HillarY needs to win the popular vote in order to secure the nomition. SHE ALREADY HAS pENNSLVENIA IN THE BAG. THERE IS NO WAY SHE IS can WIN THE MAJORITY of STATES AND DELEGATES. SO SHE NEEDS to win tHE pOpULAR VOTE SO THE SUpER DELEGATES CAN GIVE HER THE NOMINATION.

EVEN IF THEY RE DO FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN, she will still not catch OBAMA IN STATES AND DELEGATES.
IN A DEMOCRACY the MAJORITY RULES.
IF OBAMA WINS THE POPULAR VOTE, THE MAJORITY OF DELEGATES AND maintains a twentY state surPlus in election PrimaY victories then the suPerdelegates cannot make a case for HIllarY .
HILLARY CLINTON Needs TO FIND AWAY TO COMPETE IN THE CAUCAUSES AND in everY state. this was a crucial error in her camPaign and never mentioned among the "so called Pundits".

Comment: She does not have to win the popular vote. Right or wrong, all she has to do is convince the uncommitted superdelegates to support her at the convention. That's it. Of course if this were to occur it would stir up a host of issues, but I'm quite sure she and her team are planning for that. It's called crisis management. It's called contingency planning. It's called hardball politics. You don't have to like it, but it's reality.

Comment: Hillary's trying to rally the support of women is like OJ's appeals to blacks. Never have two so undeserving owed so much to so many.

Who recalls Hillary's executive experience as manager of bimbo eruptions? Hillary's blind ambition enabled a womanizer for years while at the same time she ruthlessly assassinated the character of those who had been victimized. More women like me should be outraged!
