hmmmmm, not one american car, heck gm offers several cars that get over 30 mpg. and the sky and solstice get the same milage as the mx-5. where is this magazine's ownership based? Makes me think Japan.
Thats because this and other lists I have seen are made up. TDi's from volkswagen get between 40 and 50 mpg gallon on diesel or bio diesel. They are not even electric. My bettle gets over 30 as well. These lists are completly bought and paid for and in my opinion just plain stupid.
I cannot believe that the 2008 Focus is not on the list. We are currently getting 31.2mpg in town, running the air, etc, in the Tampa Bay area. Daily driving in town is a breeze. Cannot wait to get it on the highway and see what it does there!

I cannot understand why the 2008 Ford Focus isn't listed. We are currently getting 31.2mpg in town in the Tampa Bay area. Great ride and even better fuel economy than any listed here. Can't wait to see what it does on the highway !
Guess who's buying the rights to new technologies that would drastically reduce the reliance on oil to transport the next generation? The same folks who control energy today will control feasable energy technologies tomorrow. They have the resources to buy and control these technologies to either refine them to generate profits or to bury them if they appear to be a threat to there monopolies. Just my opinion.
These are just more of the hoax that they are trying to spread! Cmon look at the old hondas 30 mpg without a problem AND THAT was almost 15 years ago NOTHING has improved! you kidding me, One more thing I think all the car companys gmc ford and so on are all tied into the gas companys, either holding shares or getting payed off! They could do alot to change it but they wont THERE IS NO MONEY IN THAT FOR THEM!
AMERICA PLAIN AND SIMPLE! GREEDY GET MORE GREEDY you should see this house on a lake nearby it is owned by an OIL EXEC. Its BS folks!
Hybrids are no longer hybrids if you want to run the air conditioning or heater. They are back to 37 MPG. A lot of extra expense. Also, the polution to create them is never addressed, like the batteries.
Isn't this great? The only problem with this is that these cars (excluding the Mini) are B U T T U G L Y!!!!!!!!! Can't they make a decent looking car that gets good mileage? I don't want to drive an egg for the rest of my life!

In 1985, I bought a Honda CRX HF. Rated by the EPA as getting 47 MPG city / 51 MPG highway, I frequently got as high as 63 MPG on the highway while the worst mileage I ever got was 39 MPG (city driving with A/C constantly on during particularly hot Dallas summer). Purchased for $6300 new, I sold it four years later for $5100! What's wrong with this picture? While the CRX was only a sporty, little two-seater, one would think 23 years later we would certainly see significantly greater gains in gas mileage. As a practicing engineer, I'm baffled why everyone seems so impressed by the mileage some of today's hybrids are getting. The fuel economy improvement seems relatively marginal, at best.
I agree. In 1986, I bought a 1971 Fiat Spyder that got 42 MPG. What is wrong with these hunyucks?! And, speaking of the Miata, I had a Corvette last year that produced 29.2 MPG on the highway and 22 in town. ZOOM! ZOOM!
Anyone have any good gas comments about the Saturn Sky?
What is the Miata doing here with those numbers? Is there no "sporty" car with better mpg rating than that?
