I see the article failed to mention GM has more models getting 30 plus mpg than any other manufacturer- why is that?

Your article is seriously flawed. Jetta diesel should be second or third on your list. And the Ford Focus in real life driving beats your quoted EPA numbers considerably. On a recent long trip in a Focus, 1,500 miles, the average was 34 to the gallon. and my ex has a lead foot in the segments she drove. You have erred.

America is the easiest place in the world to hate. We even have Americans hating America. That's the price we pay for being the best at everything.
Have you forgotten that we live in America?? What about the American autos?? Like the Ford Focus, It gets 24 mpg City and 35 Mpg Hwy. It is a great car too! That is better milage than 3 of the cars you have listed! What a shame that the media has forgotten that American cars are still around.
America is the easiest country to hate. We even have Americans that hate America. That's the price of being the best at everything.
So this is what Nanny government has planned for us, and they claim to be concerned about public safety? I certainly don't care to ride around in something that looks like a Tupperware bowl on wheels. The Greenies and Goreboils expect Americans to give up all things luxurious or beautiful, and exist in a life of simplicity. It isn't the earth that needs saving it is the inhabitants, from the lunatics that have hijacked our country. They can park these things in front of their hovel, but for me it will be still be a Cadillac.
The reason that American cars didn't make the list is because the American auto makers haven't figured out how to make a fuel efficient car that can get good fuel economy, last a long time(years and miles), does not have to be in the shop often, and is fun to drive. Granted, they might get some of these points, but not all. Oh and there is another item: high resale value. Japanese cars are known for their durability, and comfort; especially Honda. So, don't get mad, either join the fun, or try to make some thing as-good-as or better. Don't hate.
I believe that the Japanese make a more reliable car that lasts a lot longer than the American made cars- Honda's get over 250,00 miles before they need major engine work and they are a lot more fun to drive! I've never owned a Toyota, but there are alot of them on the road. The other comments have been "why aren't American cars on the list?" Because in the past American car makers haven't found the formula for a long lasting vehicle. Hey, don't hate.
Technology, I share the same view as other here. What happenned to some of the great super econmy vehicles? Well they went with the 90"s. Remember the Daihatsu? a 3 cylinder 1.0 little 2 door hatch that will go around at 50 miles a gallon. As long as people keep going for bust inside car dealer lots the manufcturing companies will not do anything. They figure out you are paying for it now that everyone is running looking for a small vehicle? Anyone interested in a Daewoo Nubira 1999 for $1400.
Just a joke .
The Toyota Camry Hybrid should be #3 in this list as it gets better gas mileage that your selections for #3-10.
I am truly glad to see so many people respond the way I felt after reading this list about the top ten most fuel efficient cars. There was not one single AMERICAN car in the list, everything was Japanese (Honda and Toyota). I am disgusted that they did not put one American car on there that can truly out perform all of these cars. Also, one true reason that gas mileage continues to decline for all cars because of all the junk and safety crap that people think they need. The next two cars I will purchase after I finish college will be from GM, for two reasons GM is one of the few that can still make a lot horsepower with a pushrod V8 and still get considerable gas mileage and for their fuel efficient eco-tech engines. I am so sick of seeing corollas everwhere I go and then people telling me there the best. I feel like buying an american car just to be different, even if the thing was the most unreliable, piece of crap out there. Give America a fighting chance and do not neglect to mention them in this list.
70-80 MPG in my 2000 Honda Insight. Due to poor sales, Honda stopped production in 2006. This car first appeared at the Tokyo Auto Show in 1997. Is this the best that can be produced in 2008? The technology of the Insight goes back to the mid-1990s!
Why are american autos not in your list? The new 2008 Ford Focus gets 24 mpg city and 35 mpg hwy. Better then 3 of the cars you have listed. It is a great car.
Can't we find one all-electric car to put in these comparisons? All those shown still use non-renewable fuels which is in declining supply. Electricity is renewable, wind-producable, and environmentally pure. Lets stop looking in the rear view mirror and drive to the future looking through the windshield. .
It is a myth that so called fossil fuels are not renewable. Where did so called fossil fuels come from? I realize plants may be becomming extinct in the desert. They can make bio-diesel from alge and a bunch of other plants.
what about pontiac vibe...i have a 2004 and will be buying a new one...with 33 hwy miles and 26 city miles per gallon, its better than some of these and cuter too!!
In the 80???s Chevy sold a vehicle that was made by Suzuki named the Sprint. My first one was a 4 door 4 speed manual with air and it got 55 miles per gallon on the highway and my second one was a Turbo Sprint, Very Fast, and it got 42 MPG. The Sprint morphed into the butt ugly Metro and the MPG went down. What happened to these cars and why can???t we purchase a new one now?

what about the Hyundai Elantra at 37 hwy/26 city?
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAMRY HYBRID? I HAVE ONE AND GET BETTER THAT 7 OF THE CARS LISTED!!!
The sad part about this list? I've owned a 2000 Honda Insight for the last 5 years. In 75K miles of driving, most of it through the Sierra Nevada, I've averaged 70.7 mpg. Sure would have liked to see some improvement in those 8 years.
Another sad fact: The company with the highest fleet average mpg in 2007? Lotus :-)
They forgot about the Chevrolet Cavalier. I have a 2004 model and I am getting 34 mpg highway and 28 city
This report forgot the Chevy Cavelier (2004). I am getting 34mpg highway and 28 city. Better than some of the models listed in this erporrt
What about the 2009 VW Jetta TDI ? Surely it has better MPG than many listed in this article? What gives?
