My 2009 Hyundai Sonata gets 32 mpg on the highway. No doubt the Miata is more fun to drive, but is this list supposed to be accurate or show a variety of automobiles?

I have to agree with Nitewatch about the Miata. As an owner of a 2007 Ford Focus that gets at least 27 mpg, I think this list cannot be too accurate.
A Miata, are you kidding me? 27 mpg is not in the top 10 of America's most fuel efficient cars. I remember getting well over 30 with my Escort that I had in college.
Where's Chevy Aveo or Cobalt or Ford Focus (all of which get over 30mpg)? How about the Saturn Vue or Ford Escape Hybirds, which also both get over 30 mpg? This list is a joke.
I also wonder about those great European diesels, too. I believe that they aren't around due to our pollution and safety standards.
Isn't this great? The only problem with this is that these cars (excluding the Mini) are B U T T U G L Y!!!!!!!!! Can't they make a decent looking car that gets good mileage? I don't want to drive an egg for the rest of my life!
Why not, it would match your head shape and brain size.
Here is the best way to get better millage how about we start rallying for less urban sprawl and more sustainable communities (how about up anyone?)
This is disgusting why are there diesels in europe that can double the milage of a lousy prius and yet we don't get any of them ! I had a 97 geo metro and got over 50mpg in the city in winter when millage drops. This is just a giant farce and marketing scam.

Another problem is that all this high tech stuff they're putting inot vehicles now some for flash and supposedly for safety's sake..adds weight to your vehicles...and that leads to lower mpg!!!
What about those old Geo Metros from the '90s,they were doing around 40 to like 50 plus miles to the gallon weren't they??
ha ha
In the early 80's a man in Watertown bought a full size Caddi and it got 50 miles to the gal..Cadillac and the dealership tried to get the carb back saying it had an experiential one on it with the tag attached..If they could do that then with a 500hp car what's stopping them now..
Please tell me which model of the plethora of 80's 500 hp Caddilacs this man bought. I bought 900hp 2009 Lincoln Towncar, and Al Gore shed one solitary tear on my intake manifold and it now gets 400mpg and shits windmills.
After reading these posts, I think some banjo playing albinos have mau-mau-ed your site.
If green houses gases are so bad why arent they proven if our oil is so high cause we import it from foreign countrys why does it come from mexico and canada ? if the us wants to do something about it why dont they drill our back yards ? if i was making millions on gas and lied to everyone every day about my political views wouldnt i be a terrorist or would i be a communist in a free land ? do we really want to tell the truth or do we just want to keep on making money from the american people ?
My 2008 ford focus got 37 mpg. at 70mph. on a recent trip. Two people, air on,golf clubs, luggage and cooler. You cant believe most of the articles in these magazines they can wright anything, they dont have to prove it.
THE PONTIAC VIBE I OWNED GOT A COMBINED 30+ AND PLENTY OF PICK UP. NO ONE EVER MENTIONS THIS FUN TO DRIVE CAR.
Why no mention of the Ford Focus that gets 35 MPG hwy? Typical anti-American reporting it seems.... The entire article lacks credibility by not mentioning the American cars that equal or surpass the Japanese in regard to fuel economy.
What about the Ford Focus at 35 MPG HWY? You obviously have an anti-American slant in your reporting. Typical of what I'd expect of MSNBC.
Try reporting news for once instead of spreading you anti_American agenda.
Another foreign car love fest article. Were are the domestic cars from Ford and GM that get 30 and above. I just bought a Chevy Cobalt and it blows the doors off the non hybrid cars listed in this article for both MPG and value. In fact my old 1997 Saturn SC2 gets a solid 34 MPG. This article is extremely skewed and misleading, to even list the 27 mpg Mazda Miata as a fuel efficient vehicle is joke. This article should have been titled ???The Most Fuel Efficient Foreign cars???. News Week should be ashamed of this article. If they were going to do an article on fuel efficient cars they should have at least did the research and look at all cars available in the US, foreign and domestic. News Week owes it's readers??? a follow up to this article.
