Some say his ability to play political hardball goes back to his first campaign???.His overwhelming legal onslaught signaled his impatience to gain office, even if that meant elbowing aside an elder stateswoman like Palmer???Obama???s first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career???first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it???

Comment: Ashock -- I see the debate has moved on, but I just wanted to respond to your post to mine. My original point concerned a double standard in the media, which can't be bothered to take a closer look at McCain's buddies Hagee and Parsley. You never did address that, by the way. Instead, you just took off on me for being "on the Barack Hussein Obama bandwagon." Clearly, you're not a fan of the man, but I'd appreciate a response that rises above the level of personl insults. You don't know me, so kindly park it. And, you might want to get your facts straight. Michele Obama never said she hated this country, she said she was, for the first time, REALLY proud ot it. There's a difference. Voting "present" is an established procedural option in the Illinois state senate and is used tactically. Get past that Republican talking point--predictably malicious--and you find a record of solid achievements. As for flag pins? What do flag pins prove? They've decorated the lapels of the liars and scoundrels who've brought us to this point. I'll pass on the sanctimonious cant and rhetoric of kneejerk patriotism any day. They'e easy to adopt and make a swell club to turn against political opinions. Real love for country includes a critical vision as well as lapel pins and ritual gestures, and I have a real problem with those who make such things a litmus test, especially when it suits their political purposes to do so. It's a little too fascist for my taste. And as for what I mean by garbage? I'm talking about the rightwing noise machine that sets up a brainless din about flag lapel pins and names that sound Muslim or rhyme with Osama, edit sound bites to distort them or take one snippet and replay it endlessly out of context to play on people's fears, prejudices and resentments. THAT'S the garbage I'm talking abut. And are we talking to each other here? Sorry, but I kinda feel like I'm being talked AT. Not the same thing. And finally, what do I find impressive about Barack Hussein Obama? Among other things, the fact that he speaks ((yes SPEAKS - when did thoughtful, intellligent discourse become a bad thing?) -- to complexities, instead of appealing to the lowest common denominator. He says things that I've thought myself, but haven't heard other politicians say. And he challenges me as a citizen. So there's your answer, Ashock, and my last word..

Comment: Why did Obama THROW GRANNY UNDER THE BUS?????

    1) Granny said she was afraid of black men.
    2) Obama said her comments made him cringe.
    3) 2005 - 37,460 Black on white rapes (about 100 per day) - ZERO white-on-black rapes
See Department of Justice link: http:///www.ojp.usdo.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/cvus0502.pdf
    4) Granny is no fool as she walks down the street. Just ask Jessie Jackson.

(This is the kind of garbage that comes up when you want to use your typical white granny to cover your fanny. Don't just call me a racist for this post. Look up the facts about black-on-white crime. The numbers are dramatic. It doesn't matter why things are the way they are to an old woman, she is just wise to protect herself. She is not necessarily being a racist, narrow-minded, ignorant, or exhibiting racist behavior by being afraid of a particular group. She is being human.)

Comment: realpages, that link you put up is no good and as one of the other blogs said sounds like your more afraid of Black folks then Granny?

        Comment: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/cvus0502.pdf

And only a fool would not be afraid of a group that is 50 time more likely to commit a violent crime against them. Again, look up what Jessie Jackson says on the same topic.

    • Posted By: guardedlyoptimistic @ 03/25/2008 15:56:39

Comment: Number of crimes committed by Barack Obama = Zero!!!!.....So, by your "logic" that means John McCain and Hillary are responible for ALL the crimes committed by white criminals...that number is going to be much higher than the questionable numbers you cited! I think granny is a lot less afraid of black men than you are?

      • Posted By: realpages @ 03/25/2008 17:14:00

Comment: I in no way said the Obama is responsible for black-on-white crime. But, if I had made that stupid leap in logic that you mentioned, then Obama would be responsible for much more crime than the White candidates because black-on-white crime is many times higher than white on black crime, especially crimes of violence. Check the facts. Just because they do not agree with your preconceived notions and prejudices does not change them. (See table 42 of the DOJ link.)

        • Posted By: realpages @ 03/25/2008 17:42:39

Comment: Just to follow-up. According to the link in 2005, there were 550,000 violent crime committed by blacks against whites and 53,000 violent crimes of whites against blacks. That means there were 10 times as many crimes by blacks against whites than whites against blacks. Since there are 4 times whites as many blacks, that means that statistically a black person is 40 more times more likley to commit a violent crime against a black person than a white person to commit a violent crime against a black person. Granny can do 'maff'.

(Here is something to ponder. If today in America a black person is 40 more time likely to draw blood from a white person, then I wonder how much more likely a black person is willing to lie or obscure the truth when in a conflict or contest with a white person? ... or caught in a politcal jam?)

          • Posted By: realpages @ 03/25/2008 17:45:01

Comment: CORRECTION: Since there are 4 times whites as many blacks, that means that statistically a black person is 40 more times more likley to commit a violent crime against a WHITE person

Comment: THE LEVEL OF IGNORANCE OF THIS NON ISSUE IS REACHING A NEW LOW. REV. WRIGHT IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT AND THE PASTOR AND THE CHURCH ARE SEPERATE ENTITIES.

    1. OBAMA HAS SAID WORST THINGS RECENTLY ABOUT BLACKS SUCH AS AFFRIMATIVE ACTION IS A FLOP, OJ DID IT AND PUT DOWN THAT ROSCOE'S CHICKEN...........ETC. HE IS EQUALLY HARSH. MAYBE WE NEED THIS. A GUY FROM BOTH RACES WHO CAN BE EQUALLY UNCUT AND HONEST. WHEN HE SAYS "TYPICAL" REGARDING HIS GRANDMOTHER IN THE 70S-SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN ALL THE WAY TO THE WORST POSSIBLE WAY AND HE'S TELLING THE TRUTH BY THE WAY. NOTICE HOW FOX "NEWS" NEVER STATES HOW ALL THESE BLACK PASTORS AND CHURCHES THAT ARE ACTUALLY PREACHING AGAINST OBAMA DUE TO LOYALTY TO THE CLINTONS. I'VE HEARD FROM MY OWN EARS ABSOLUTELY MONSTER THINGS ABOUT THE DUDE IN BLACK CHURCHES. BY THE WAY-NOTHING WRIGHT CAN "SAY" CAN BE ON THE LEVEL OF WHAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH'S "ACTIONS" OF ALLOWING THEIR PREISTS TO MOLEST LITTLE BOYS AND NOT TURN THEM OVER TO THE LAW BUT SEND THEM TO OTHER LOCATIONS AND WHICH OF COURSE THEY CONTINUED THE HORROR.

2.MAYBE WE NEED SOMEONE THAT IS CRITICAL OF US(UNITED STATES) AT THIS MOMENT? WHY DID WE INVADE A COUNTRY OFF 4 (WMD, AL QUEDA, BIN LADEN, 911)FALSE PREMISES AND START A WAR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OUR HISTORY? WHY IS BIN LADEN STILL ALIVE AND TALKING SMACK? WHY HAVE A TAX CUT FOR THE WEALTHY IN THE MIDDLE OF WAR TIME FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY WHICH IS A MJAOR REASON WE ARE WHERE WE AT? WHY ARE GAS PRICES SO HIGH? WHY DO WE HAVE 4000 TROOPS DEAD AND WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT UP TO THE VP HE STATED "SO?" WHY DO WE IMPRISON MORE PEOPLE THAN CHINA? WHY DO WE HAVE MORE GUN DEATHS THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY ON THE GLOBE? WHY DO WE HAVE THE HIGHEST RECIDIVISM RATE ON THE GLOBE? WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA PEOPLE! THIS IS UNACCAPTABLE.

    3. "AMERICA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 1000 BLACK BABY DEATHS A YEAR!" WHO SAID THAT-NOT REV. WRIGHT BUT REV. ROB PARSELY FROM OHIO-MCCAIN'S SPIRITUAL ADVISOR AND A WHITE GUY-AND SAYS THAT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH IN HIS SERMONS. OBAMA'S INNER CAMPAIGN CIRCLE SAYS IF THE REV. WRIGHT GARBAGE KEEPS UP THEY WILL THROW THE CARD OUT SWIFTLEY AND QUICKLEYABOUT PARSLEY'S STATEMENTS AND HIS ANTI-CATHOLICISM VIEWS NUMBERS INFINITELY. THERE ARE 70 MILLION CATHOLICS IN THE U.S.(50 MILL IN VOTING AGE) TO GIVE YOU CONTEXT-50 MILLION PEOPLE VOTED FOR BUSH IN 2007 AND THAT WAS THE LARGEST TURNOUT IN HISTORY.

Media knows plenty and sadly has plenty invested in this election to change the conversation onto the real issues so they have stopped reporting with dignity. Op Eds sell more product so that is where investers want the effort spent. Corporate America has changed the topography of the conversation and really that is all it offers. They leave it to the readers and listeners to fill in the blanks hence that is why Talk shows and Rupert Murdoch style of news papers do so well. It is easyer to talk about non issues and let voters carry the conversation. Of course that results in less and less reporting and more and more opinions which everybody has got one. Not necessarily fact based as evident by the conversations going on, on the blogs and call in radio talk shows. Hey. it is not rocket sience it really is a simple idea. Just talk about what effects your life and how you would like to see it change or stay the same. Just talk about real issues! I am not afraid of a the grand hoax perpetrated by the Bush Administration, NeoCons and the Reagan Democrats we have been under the rule of these groups for to long it is time to wake up!

James Carville Sleeps with the enemy has for
practically his entire political career, no wait he is
married to the enemy, no wait he is the enemy
the Washington elite. He has spent almost the
entire time of his political career in the gutter he
forgot which way is down so it all looks like up to
    him.

Jealous of Dean's exaltation, because he is now seen
as the primary architect of the sweeping Democratic
victory in 2006, Greenberg and Carville are doing what
they see as the bare bones minimum to preserve their
now historic credibility as the premiere Democratic
consultants in Washington. This project may well prove
difficult, since both men have checkered past that
might not inspire confidence in their political
sagacity while Dean's achievement in 2006 now stands
as a shining example of the dawn of a new era in
American politics. Let us not go backwards while we
still have them on the run!

The political consultancies representing the so-called
"New Democrats'' movement that traces its origins
back to the Reagan era and the emergence of what is
now dubiously termed, "Reagan Democrats" had
    consciously and with premeditation aforethought
truncated their Party's operations across a broad
band of red states where they simply surrendered to
Reaganism, Republicanism and ultimately, the radical
policies of reactionary neoconservativism. This is the
DLC the people backing and stumping for Hillary these
are the people who have been steadily tearing the
Democratic party apart and they masquerade as real
democrats all over the web on blogs and in news rooms.
Wake up all of you Hillary supporters she is part of
the Reagan Democrats and Carville and Greenberg are
her top hench men among a whole crew of them.

Republicans love these people and have used them to
win elections for the last couple of decades for
president. US senatorial, US congressional, governor.,
mayoral, State senate, state legislative races all
over the USA these people are Republicans in a
Democrat's clothes. They are the instigators and
applicators of all that is dirty in politics and keep
the voting public from concentrating on the real
issues. They control the game and almost always have
suckered their opponents into playing it their way so
they can win elections. They play the percentages and
as history has proven they work in their favor. That
    is until 2006 and 2008

These people where not expecting and where blown away
by Barack Obama. It was decided that it was their turn
to win and it was all worked out for that to happen
that is why they picked and promoted such a weak
candidate in Mc Cain (Poor guy probably doesn't even
    know).
Time for a change, don't you think!
Time to start discussing the real issues, don't you think!

Comment: To Driverofwagons-Face it, the choices in this election sucks. We already knew Clinton and McClain are crooks. Obama was a true fresh choice for this country. In my opinion, the first flag for obama was church awarding Farrakan an award. No one can honestly deny that Farrakans way of thinking is not the way this country needs to go. Then we hear Obama's pastor's comments, even if it was just 30 seconds worth. I'm sure over 99% of church going people have NEVER heard such hatred in their church. Then, we hear Obama justify the comment by telling us we are "Typical White People". We all know about Bush's crookedness. So here's our choices this election: A woman who we call know lies, cheats, and, steals OR A white man who we know lies, cheats and steals, OR A black man who all we really know is he has loose ties to a radical muslim group? A man who ran on the platform of change. or that words matter. And then we hear that we are typical white people. Most of this country agrees we need to go in a different direction. But we also have to remember that we are in a war with an enemy that does not want peace with us. We either conform to their religon or die. Both Clinton and Bush knew of the threats to this country, and we all witnessed 9/11. Bottom line is, at this point in our history, do we dare elect a president that has any ties whatsoever with any radical muslim group? Do we really want to take a chance with the most powerful nation on earth? A wrong choice really could destroy this nation. So it boils down to voting the lesser of 3 evils.I've voted in this country since the Carter years, and I've always voted for who I thought could do the job, not by party. Remember that radical muslims want to DESTROY us, not be our friends. So can we elect a PERSON for president that is even remotely tied to a radical muslim group? Something to seriously consider...

    • Posted By: guardedlyoptimistic @ 03/24/2008 15:59:35

Comment: Senator Obama DOES NOT have ties to any radical Muslim groups any more than McCain has ties to the KKK. Obama CLEARLY denounced and rejected the endorsement of Louis Farrakhan, while McCain SOUGHT the endorsement of John Hagee. Rev Wright is a Christian leader, he is NOT Muslim! The Bush family has a long storied history of involvement with the Saudis as well as involvement with members of Bin Laden's family...that I find scary!

      • Posted By: Huachuca @ 03/24/2008 16:25:41

Comment: Begging your pardon, I did not say "Rev." Write was a muslim did I? And I hate to tell you he is not a true christian either. True Christians do not spew their hate of another race. And he did give an award to a known radical muslim didn't he? I know what the whacko white preachers "preach", this is not true Christiananity either. The point I was trying to make was : Do we take a chance on a President that has ties(no matter how loose) to a radical muslim group? As I said, radical muslims don't want to make peace, they want to kill us! Now, would you read what I wrote again and tell me where I said Wright was a muslim? And if you can tell me that Louis Farrakan is not radical you are only fooling yourself...

        • Posted By: guardedlyoptimistic @ 03/24/2008 17:42:16

Comment: True, you did NOT say Rev Wright was a Muslim. Farrakhan IS radical and IS a hate monger! Obama DID denounce and reject Farrakhan. So, since he HAS denounced and rejected him where is the connection? If "true christians" do not spew their hate on another race then there are definitely very few true christians out there. Most of those on here who have expressed racist views also "claim" to be christians! At this point we have only 2 possibilities, Obama or McCain. McCain does have connections to some of those whacko white preachers. I simply can NOT see any good at all coming from a McCain/Bush presidency, you could make a good case that he is even MORE of a war monger than Bush and equally as intelligent. Therefore were are left with one choice, Barack Obama! So...YES, we take a chance on him because any muslim connection there is VERY remote and nothing in his background suggest any "radical views." If you are opposed to Obama as our next president, who would you suggest would be a better choice?

          • Posted By: Huachuca @ 03/25/2008 06:40:49

Comment: He only denounced the Farrakan award AFTER the press brought it to his attention. He only denounced Wright AFTER the press brought it to his attention. Yes McCain sucks. NO, we do not take a chance on someone with even very loose ties to radical muslims. It's not a game of cards where you take a chance. It is about the SAFETY and SECURITY of this nation. I'm not white OR black, and Obama had my vote untill this hate stuff came out. Wright preaches the same hate Farrakan does. This country does not need to go in the past does it? All 3 choices suck, but I wiil not vote for someone who listened to such hate for 20 years.

So, yes Bush knew the Bin Ladens, along with thousands of other people. But no one knew untill recently, the type of "Religon" obama endorsed...

    Comment: For Driver of wagons:

You do understand that 99.99% of the people on here won't read that? That was good info; however, most people on here I think are paid to smear candidates. Its entertaining to an extent, then it approaches the realm of severe retardation.

And for my white counterparts: my grandmother was an open racist. One that was worse than Wright and more derogatory than Hagee. If I were running for president, I would have handled this bs just like Obama did. Why? Because she's my grandmother, and though I don't agree with her, she's my family.

Would it be an issue? Nope. Because I'm white. Think that's wrong? Then you really are truly stupid, as 99.99% of the assinine posts on here are from white people. You've got the .01% of black posters on here who actually make educated responses on the matter since they can personally relate to Obama, and actually know what he's talking about. You heard his speech, you heard his words, but were you really listening? Who will you remember this election, years from now? Will it be Clinton's mud-slining? McCain's senility and stupidity? Or Obama's speech?

Granted, as a person (not white or black or green or blue or brown or yellow, etc), Wright probably shouldn't have flied off onto that tangent.

The truth is, and you won't like this, is that we received hundreds of threats mentioning the WTC and 9/11 prior to the attacks. Our FBI, CIA, NSA, government, DID NOTHING! We had the ability to prevent this, and we did nothing. That is not anyone's fault but our own.

We went to war with Iraq because Bush said Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The UN did an investigation, which Hussein submitted to. No WMDs were found. Bush basically called everyone a liar. The UN told him not to invade, and Bush said "This is America, I do what I want." Is that the impression you want to leave on nuclear-powered countries?

Some of you are Clinton supporters because of issues, not this. This isn't for you, as you are part of the .01% on here. This is for the idiots.

I expect to get flamed on this. Oh well. The flame will prove your stupidity.

    1) Santley CEO, Philip Nolan, the contractor for the passport contractors gives Clinton a $1,000 contribution on 2/20/08
    2) Obama's passport records (which include visits, ambassador visits, who he met, where and when, possibly photos taken by embassy officials, and, recall that Obama's visit to Kenya was limited to a very small circle of advisors and family) are accessed on 2/21/08.
    3) Obama, in the Kenya garb, has his photo circulated through the Clinton camp on 2/25/08, implying he is a muslim and they don't deny they were involved in the drudge reports circulation.
    4) The Clintons called in favors to access his records and get as many "negatives" as they could, the Kenya photo, and put their spin on it. They are infanitely familiar with the inner-workings of the state department and seem to have a ready friend in Philip Nolan, CEO of the very company that hired and then fired the two contractors who accessed his passport file, Stanley, Inc.
    5) They made sure that it looked like this was a breach of all the candidates, when in fact the inquiry into McCain and Clinton were tests and set to ensure that "everyone" was a target.
    6) They are the same old Clintons, up to their eyeballs, in dirty politics and using the government to snoop, spy, and sabatoge anyone who stands in their way. Obama, better watch his back, with those two as they will stop at nothing, and use every inside dirty trick, including blaming the Bush's for their inside track.

Two issues need to be looked into. Why was this buried until after the contract with Stanley was awarded and who held up the release of this information. And second, whether in fact McCain was in fact breached at all. Many (except the media) are saying that McCain was not breached and that they included his name only to lighten the outcry from the left. Can you imagine if this was a democratic administration....the outcry would be unrelenting.

My review of the Board and Managers of Stanley revealed that many, if not most, were former Navy officers and/or Annapolis graduates. When I tracked the option transaction of the senior officials I found the dates paralleled the incursions into private files. The story was buried until after the announcement of the one-half-billion-dollar contract with State on 17 March. McCain certainly must know these people.

There are many that feel that McCain's file (and possibly Clinton's as well) were not breached and that only Obama's was. Once State knew that this was getting out, they included McCan and Clinton so as to give the impression that this breach included a republican as well to soften the outcry. Several blogs and one news outlet have put this forth as well. The media will let this die out just like all the other intrusions that have taken place over the last eight years. Can't you just hear the hard right if this were a democratic administration and this took place.

Comment: For Calliope - just who is keeping who from talking to each other? Looks like lots of talk here. People who want the best for our country don't want someone who refuses to salute our flag but yet can display them behind him when he is trying to cover up his boo-boos. Speaking of boo-boos, every time he has one he pulls out the race card. It wasn't his fault - it was a race issue. Well, for those of us who have lived thru civil rights and promoted it, this is one big slap in the face. Barack Hussein Obama has virtually no experience. Voting no to give the President the right to 'maybe' go to war was one of very few times he ever voted. Mostly he voted 'present' which is straddling the fence. So I can't see where that gives him judgement he would need to be President. He and his wife both got great education thanks to our governments equal opportunity acts and all she can say is she was never proud of this country. He got his campaign money for senator from a slum landlord and my guess would be that slum landlord in Chicago probably hurt more blacks and hispanics than whites. His father figure, mentor, pastor (if that us what you want to call him) for past 20 years hates this country and takes the Lord's name in vain inside of his so-called church. Now you explain to me (please) what is impressive about this man! If I make you or anyone else on here mad, than good. Maybe if you get mad enough you will start to think for yourself and not blindly follow eloquently delivered speeches that have no real meaning or content. As far as the media they did give about a 2 week break to Hillary and McCain and now it is right back to Barack Hussein Obama - they even broadcast his speeches live. They don't do that for the other candidates - so is that the garbage on airwaves you were talking about?

  • Posted By: Calliope @ 03/22/2008 1:26:06 PM

Comment: For Ashock - What makes you think I'm on anyone's bandwagon? I'm proud of the overall quality of the Democratic field this time around, and I'm impressed with Obama. And yes, his middle name is Hussein. General Bradley's first name was Omar. .John McCain's name rhymes with Saddam Hussein. So what? Who is it that's pushing this garbage on the airwaves? Thoughtful people? People who want the best for this country, and recognize that others who don't necessarily agree with them may also want the best for it? Or people who just want to keep us divided and not talking to each other?

  • Posted By: ashock @ 03/22/2008 12:07:09 PM

Comment: For Calliope - if you don't want John McCain elected then you had better get off the Barack Hussein Obama bandwagon. Anyone who can still think for themselves and not follow another Jim Jones will definetly vote for McCain rather than Barack Hussein Obama which will mean we will have another 4 years of crippling economy, war, etc

    • Posted By: guardedlyoptimistic @ 03/22/2008 21:01:44

Comment: Wrong! Anyone who can NOT think for themselves IS Republican and WILL vote for John McCain! ANYONE who would vote for McCain is voting FOR war, and also FOR a further deterioration of the economy! McCain is simply another four years of Bush!!! He's just a little older, a little more unstable, and a lot more of a war monger!

Comment: Great post army4rangerR! There is only one way of spreading HIV - so Wright (who is really Wrong) should get his facts straight. People better wake up and start thinking for themselves! Barack Hussein Obama and his wife hate America so much he won't wear a flag lapel pin, but when he wants to try to explain his mistakes he has a bunch of America flags behind him. Now unless you are brain-dead isn't that the phoniest thing you ever saw? Also, he didn't explain any of the issues that were brought up against him, he just blamed everyone else, including his white grandmother. He didn't mention his muslem black grandmother. Guess she didn't have anything to do with his hating America, just the "typical white person". Also, how about Richardson? Wonder what Richardson will think when Barack Hussein Obama doesn't pick him as a running mate because he (Richardson) is just "a typical hispanic".

Comment: In my travel today I did not see one single person in my community (no man, woman, or child) wearing an American flag lapel pin. I thought to myself "oh my God" they're all a bunch of America hates! There can't be any other logic explanation for it! Tomorrow when you're out and about you should confront each and every person you see who is not wearing their american flag lapel pin and ask them why they hate America? You know, that sounds pretty ridiculous doesn't it? I think so too! I think it might also help us to remember the words of Sinclair Lewis who said "When fascism comes it America it will be wrapped in an flag and carrying a cross!" ....looks like it might have arrived!

Comment: Consider a crowded bus stop, where everyon is jockying for position to get on the bus. Often this leads the mob closer and closer to the curb edge. A person standing behind another immediately at the curb turns side-ways, pushes forward, or is pushed forward. The bus is coming, and at that moment the person on the edge is purposefully or inadvertantly pushed, thrown, shoved etc... under the bus.

Comment: Just for the record....John McCain has welcomed the endorsement of Texas evangelist John Hagee and actively sought the endoresement of Ohio televangelist Ron Parsley -- both politically powerful, and both purveyors of bigotry -- antii-Catholic, anti-Muslim, anti-gay, and (if you scratch the surface of Rapture beliefs, anti-Semitic. Hagee, for example, has called the Catholic Church "the Great Whore" and proclaimed Katrina Go'ds punishment against New Orleans for its sins. Parsley is preaching a religious war between the Christian West and Islam. McCain has embraced both, and actively sought out Parsley. Tell me, where's the media firestorm? Who says there's not a double standard in this country?

Does he consider either minister like a member of his family - say - an uncle? Does he regard either minister as his personal spiritual adviser?

Double standard? How about reaching for straws.

Comment: Amazing how the Obama campaign has not "wanted" to make this Presidential race about race, but every time someone brought up something negative about Obama, the Obama campaign would bring up the race card.

So, if Obama gets the Democratic nomination for President, does that finally mean that the blacks can NEVER use the race card again?

  • Posted By: webb1969 @ 03/22/2008 7:18:40 AM

Comment: There has been alot of discussion around "throwing under the bus". Obama made a bad decision to asscociate with someone who has very radical, if not racist, ideas. I dare say that if John McCain associated with someone with similar ideas that the backlash would be enormous, and I believe that the Republican party would be forced to "throw him under the bus". My mother once said to me, "If you hang around trouble, then expect to get into trouble."
If I went to a church that taught "racism", or spoke that the "minority races" was the root of evil then most people would assume that I was a racist and they should. If you do not agree with what is being taught if the pulpit you can go to a different church. Rev. Wright's teachings are extreme and leaving his church is not the same as leaving your Country. There are thousands of Churches that do not teach such divisive ideas(Obama's own description of the teaching of Rev. Wright). There is only one USA.

    • Posted By: guardedlyoptimistic @ 03/22/2008 20:46:15

Comment: Excuse me...John McCain DOES associate with several people who have similiar ideas!! i.e John Hagee, Ron Parsley, Sean Hannity etc....but he doesn't have to worry about getting thrown under or even off the bus because the Republican party loves those kind of people and has been associated with them for many, many years. The Republican party is well known as the hate party!

Comment: In my opinon " the Chickenss coming home to roost" is no more racist then " thrown under the bus" they are both equivocal as they can be interpided as differnat things to different people . We know how our foreign policies have turned the other nations into this love - hate relationship with us, "chickens coming home ", relates to the drit we do internationally coming back to haunt us ( I know your momma's tought ya'll the golden rule) and thrown under the bus means to trample under foot so to speak but what I think Rev. Wright was saying is that we got drit for the drit we did. and he's not that far off. just as sure as someone is going to get thrown under the bus for this. It may not have been right for him to put in that way knowing that in white minds the image of Malcom X jumped up and scared a lot of them . but Rev. wright is not just a Preacher He like Christ is a revolutionist Yes I said it Chirst spent years going against the grain waking sleeping minds upsetting the status Quo . First I think it is silly to hold one Man responcable for another Mans actions
Pres. Bush is my leader but please don't hold me for the dumb things he does. but as my leader I will and have fought for his right to be wrong. No I'm not leaving or changing my opinon of America because of his mistakes . same as I'm not holding Mr. Obama for Rev. Wrights words . Think about it you will get it.

  • Posted By: Mooky_joe @ 03/22/2008 3:50:18 AM

Comment: First I do not think that Rev. Wrights remark was racist it may even be nationalist ,all it says is that when you do dirt, dirt comes back and do you. You may think of it as you get what you give . Now lets be frank our treatment of the Arab world has been shabby at best ,We ( I mean US americans ) have bullyed and cowled every thid world nation to do things Our way, We talk sweet and when they resist We put neighbor against neighbor , we hold Our Aid over their head like a sword until they comply. travel the world and you'll find most countries have a love- hate relationship with Us ( Americans) While I am a loyal American who has served my country and think there is no better place on earth, I am also aware of the wrong ( and right ) we do internationally. We don't have to look at any other nation but at our history to see we've got a alot of Dirt to clean up. and remember the first terrorist to bomb America was home grown. I really hope that I have not ofended anyone I just want to open blind eyes.

Comment: Sen. Obama stayed in that church because he liked what he heard. He chosen Rev.Wright to be his mentor because he liked what he heard. Do not even try to say the White race has not been abuse by our country and by the African American people. How do you think we feel when we lived in a community for 50+ years and then the African American people move in and take over. It is not because the African America people are black it is because they have no respect for us or our communities. Just like allot of the African American people have no respect for their own communities. For many years they live somewhere and after it turns into a drug infested torn down town-they move into a community that the White race worked very hard to make. This has been going on MANY MANY years! Our homes are finally starting to be paid for and retirement is just a few years away and then the African American people take over and we HAVE TO START OVER. DO YOU THINK THIS IS FAIR ??? We would like for our nation to help us when this happens but guess what -THEY DO NOT! We lose EVERYTHING we worked for all our lives. You may not know but many people can not sell their homes at all when that happens .AGAIN -do you think that is fair?
Now comes the big but-we do not go to church and vent our anger. We go to church to worship GOD and to come together in peace with one another.
I believe there are more African American people that are hateful then there are in The White race community. I do not believe it is most but it is allot. Look at the age of the young men and some women who latch out at their communities. Most are between 12 and 25 years old. In this group there are some that are even younger and some that are older. Anger grows in the souls of some people and it began when they where young.
If you listen to people like Rev.Wright-Know wonder this is so widespread in the African American people. If I had to sit and listen to my preacher tell me that the land that I live on and the people of my country hate me- I would be angry and stirred up also. When anyone is stirred up and have no outlet for it-it comes out in other ways. It would make my blood boil !!!

Rev.Wright has been Sen.Obama's mentor for 20 years. I believe and many people NOW wonder-how much is his blood boiling as he quietly reads his speeches to the nation?

Allot of people can no longer trust him. Not to mention his back and forth lies.

"No I was unaware of" or "no I never heard" or "yes I found out then" and then finally "well-of coarse I knew".

I wish we all could do a do over vote. I think the outcome would have been very different.

    I feel so betrayed.

here is what we do you make this film(video) and we'll get it distributed across the air waves and cyber space (of course we'll need a patsy who we can blame it on) and then we'll yank it and I'll fire the patsy and then I'll apologize to Barack Obama.. which will make me look like the good guy but we will have planted the vile seed and then we will just sit back and watch it fester. that is a great plan not original but effective

    suspended, SUSPENDED Thats it.

Well let us just slap his PP it will sting for a lttle while but then we'll make it up to him and get him back onboard for more foul play. don't you just love politics this is so much fun.

    From The Politico.com

An aide to John McCain was suspended from the campaign today for blasting out an inflammatory video that raises questions about Barack Obama's patriotism.

Soren Dayton, who works in McCain's political department, sent out the YouTube link of "Is Obama Wright?" on twitter at 12:31 today with the tag, "Good video on Obama and Wright." It has since been taken down.

Twitter is an online device that allows users to send out short messages and links en masse through computers or PDAs.

First of all the video is pretty lame and not very well put together (imo) secondly, from what I can tell, Soren Dayton had absolutely nothing to do with production of this video which was easily found on YouTube and disseminated all around the internet blogs and email blasts today! Also as noted above Soren was not working in a communications capacity for the McCain Campaign, which in my mind, makes his suspension extremely ridiculous!!!

It may be the result of ignorance on the part of the campaign management being so technologically impaired that twitter, feeds, and the rest are so completely over their collective heads that suspension was a default ruling until such time they could figure out what exactly went on here.

Of course you can guess my problem with this... The McCain camp has shown an utter lack of testicular fortitude in this instance. The ease in which they acquiesced and rolled over is exactly what I was afraid of with a McCain nominee. I realize you have to pick your battles but caving so fast on something so minor, in this instance, looks cowardly.

This is PrimeTime Politics and if your not willing stand by the people who are supporting you over something that's tantamount to forwarding an email... I say you may not posses the ruthlessness and the stones it takes to make the tough decisions to be commander-in-chief.

Being thrown of the pier you are expected to survive -sink or swim - unless tied up, weighed down with barbells or wearing cement shoes. Being thrown under the bus leaves out the important word "moving" and speed as in "Speed " or ''Red Heat". Only a head can fit under the ten-wheeler unless you are an Olsen twin or a Ritchie. this a job for has-been wrestlers and body-builders. Requirements :Must be able to lift and throw anyone under the bus. If you must throw someone under the bus, start at the front of the bus.Speed and timing are very important. Push as hard as you can. The News mentioned that Governor Patterson threw the unsuspecting Lila Kirton under the bus. This was a scienc project. He timed it perfectly.

Comment: Also, I am so sick and tired of people using the argument, when speaking of slavery in this country, that Africans started it, blah blah blah. I swear you all need an abject lesson in the history of ALL countries and cultures on this planet. Africans weren't the ONLY culture that had slaves from peoples that they captured when they were at war. EVERY culture practiced it. So that is not even a valid argument.

The reason that the wounds run so deeply in this country when it comes to slavery is that when the slaves were freed America wasn't "ready". Let me explain. Eventually the institution of slavery would have collapsed because someone would have eventually figured out that it wasn't "cost effective" to maintain slaves and it would have cut into their bottom line in the long run. Since slave owners were, in essence, forced to give up their slaves before they were ready, they resented it and the slaves. Heck, the slaves weren't even ready because they were essentially tossed out into the cold without any "viable" skills to survive on their own. Most of them couldn't read nor could they write. The only thing they knew was to work the fields and cook and clean for someone and that's what most of them went back to. Why do you think that most of them never left the south and became share croppers???? Whites weren't ready to accept slaves as "people" because of centuries of being told otherwise.

Basically, no one had time to adjust to anything.

Now I could go on and on about this for a while but I won't. If you want to talk to me, hit me up with an email at ladyt_28@hotmail.com to discuss it further.

Comment: It's funny to me that people think that Senator Obama "threw his grandmother under the bus" because he used the word "typical...". It's even funnier that these same people who think he threw his poor old granny under the bus don't think that he threw blacks "under the bus" as well when he addressed the anger that is felt throughout the black community. Well now THAT'S funny and odd indeed.
I read, on another site, where someone said exactly what I had been saying this whole time. If EVERY church going individual in this country stopped going to church because the preacher/pastor/rabbi said something that they didn't agree with, we would ALL be some church hopping folks.
I have NEVER in my entire 38 years of existence seen where one individual agrees with EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY WORD THAT COMES FROM ANOTHER PERSON'S MOUTH THAT IS NOT THEIR OWN!
What are you people nuts????!!!! If YOU believe everything that EVERY person you are associated with (preacher, boss, mother, father, aunt, uncle, grandmother, brother, sister, grandfather, neice, nephew, cousin (twice removed), etc.) then that would make YOU the bleating sheep that just follows around someone blindly because I don't see you or anyone else leaving their church of 1 yr. or 20 yrs. simply because the man (or woman) in the pulpit said something you didn't like, UNLESS...you DO agree with everything....hmm *things that make you go hmmm* What a bunch of hypocrits.
I'm sure you also don't like the "guilt by association" moniker either. That's what this is all about. Since Rev. Wright said some ugly things, Senator Obama was supposed to have gotten up, left and NEVER returned as should the entire congregation of about 8,000 (plus) that are members of this church but because he DIDN'T he is guilty by even associating with this man that he met while he was doing charitable work in the community by ministering to the homeless and feeding the souls of countless number of people in other ways.
I'm sorry, this entire argument is ridiculous on its face and all the way underneath the surface down to the bottom.
If you didn't like Senator Obama before, and you didn't have a reason (and this crap about him not telling you HOW he's going to make the changes are stupid because if you did a little research you'd know) then, him addressing the issue about race in this country (and statements that HE didn't even make for crying out loud) is just adding "fuel to your fire" for not liking him in the first place.

Comment: The point is that this man - this Pastor - has been his spiritual leader for 20 years. In my view that means he helps shape Obama's views and opinions. That Obama chose to continue in that church, hearing the things said, is problem 1. Problem 2 is he tried to lie about it. First it was he never heard anything wrong there. Then it was well, maybe once or twice. Then it was that he heard comments serious enough to discuss them with the Pastor. Which is it??? Problem 3: I left the last church I had fundamental disagreements with and to me racism is a fundamental disagreement. PARTICULARLY FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. That makes Obama ill equipped for the post (let's not even get into his qualifications....).

Comment: I would agree with you on your initial point however, it is flawed. SPIRITUAL leader is one thing but how about his MOTHER and his GRANDPARENTS were the ones that shaped his "views and opinions" about things as well as his own personal experiences.

Let me give you an example: I am a black female who is a Southern Baptist. In my church, my pastor does not believe that women should be in the pulpit for any reason other than to put water and something for him to drink on the little table that sits behind the podium. We have Women's Day celebrations and the speakers (who are female) are NOT allowed in the pulpit. That is discriminatory if I never heard the word and I don't believe or condone my pastor's belief in that aspect. Did I leave the church because of it? Well no, I didn't. Did I "disown" him because of it? Well, no I didn't do that either. My opinion hasn't changed and my opinion wasn't shaped by his either because in my OPINION, woman should be able to speak at the podium that is in the pulpit (not at one that is on the side of the pulpit) so she can be SEEN. But hey, that's just my opinion. And my VIEWS about it haven't changed either. I continued to go to that church too until I moved away because my husband is in the military. Now, having said that, if I were running for public office and it came out that my pastor has said these things about women and I said that "well I never personally heard him say this (which, coincidentally, I haven't but one of the OTHER women in the church told me this), and I said well if it's true that he said that doesn't mean I agree with him though.

Am I guilty by association for staying in the church?

Also, you must do a lot of church hopping then if you leave because I know you don't agree with EVERYTHING that the pastor says do you????

Comment: At least your Pastor is basing that view on Scripture:
          1 Timothy 2:12
          New American Standard Bible
But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
          King James Bible
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Where in the Bible are Rev. Wright's words based from?

Comment: Iamnotasused: When I go to church, my pastor says, "help thy neighbor" "do unto others asyou would have them do unto you" "give to the poor," etc. Black church, white church, hispanic church,--a church is to uplift the human race, not trash them. "Goddamn America" and we are responsible for 9/11 because we have killed people in other countries is so blasphamous, that this pastor Wright should leave this country and hopefully he will take Obama with him. With all this countroversy swirling around Obama, I would not vote for him and I'm a lifelong Democrat who has only voted Democratic. How are we supposed to raise our dignity in the world with such trash running for the Presidency--with someone who is supposed to bring honor again to our country? This sure doesn't seem like a good way to do it.

Comment: Are you talking about dwarf-tossing? School bus, city bus or ten-wheelers? Is the bus falling from the sky? You did not pay your fare, so you are thrown under the bus to finish the free ride. If you are thrown off the pier you are expected to survive - sink or swim - unless you are tied to a barbell or wearing cement shoes. If you are thrown out the window - opened or glass you are expected to survive from the first or second floors, maybe dead from the third floor and above and landing on concrete sidewalk unless as in the movies there is a swimmimg or old mattress or Spidey or Supe is there. If the bus is a ten-wheeler only a head can fit. Being thrown under the bus leaves out an important word "moving" and speed as in "Speed"' or "Red Heat " . To end up under the bus, start the throw or rather " push" in front of the bus. Did someone mention Governor Patterson "pushed" the unsuspecting Lia Kirton under the bus?

Comment: The important thing to note in all of this is that the bus has to be in motion and the undercarriage has to be low enough.

Comment: Hurrah! Let's talk about race. Let's talk honestly, because there are some things that need to be looked at.

    1) I will start out by THROWING MY GRANNY UNDER THE BUS. My granny was a racist. She was afraid of black men. Next point.
    2) Blacks were abuse by the KKK mostly in the first part of the last century and it essentially ended over 50 years ago.
    3) Black men are harassed by the police and pulled over just because of the color of their skin
    4) Over the last 45 years there have been an astounding 25 million black on white crimes.
    5) Over 10,000 cases of black on white GANG rape between 2001 and 2003 - ZERO white on black
    6) 37,460 Black on white rapes in 2005. ZERO white-on-black rapes
See Department of Justice link: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/cvus0502.pdf
    8) 1,900,000 Black on white crimes in 2002, 360,000 white on black crimes even though there are 4 times as many white than black. Those figures should be reverse.
    9) 7 year period from 1995 - 2002 the murder rate of blacks against whites was roughly the same as the rate of US troop deaths in the current Iraq war.
    10) My granny was afraid of black men.

    Oh yes ...

    11) 2008 - three incidents of government contracts looked in a black presidential candidate???s passport records.
