Comment: I agree, if her name wasn't Clinton she would have not even tried to say in this long. But the Clinton name has pros (it's familiar) and cons (scandal).
Comment: I agree, if her name wasn't Clinton she would have not even tried to say in this long. But the Clinton name has pros (it's familiar) and cons (scandal).
Comment: So people didn't like her even back then, in her home town.
Comment: Hillary Clinton needs to begin to prepare her exit from the race... Several sources in her own camp admit that she has virtually no chance of winning the nomination except if she succeeds in finding James Hoffa's body and moving it in Obama's flower garden to put the blame on him.
Since there is little chance for the body to be found, she makes all these negative assertions. The goal seems to be the 2012 election. By putting enough doubts on Obama, Hillary is hoping that he will lose to McCain and that she or Chelsea (who is also an experienced leader after her journey at the White House mansion) will be able to run in 2012. The Clintons might then be able to capitalize again with the rental of the Lincoln Bedroom to big lobbyists.
Whatever happens, since the Judas story with Richardson, we know that Hillary believes in ressurection; she or her husband Bill would be Jesus if I understood correctly the story. So, we can assume that Hillary will not hesitate to play the kamikaze with this election or the next one since she will probably reborn again, as the savior.
Hillary Clinton needs to begin to prepare her exit from the race before she hurts herself or others.
Comment: I'm voting for substance over form. This is an ironic article.
The point that's been missed in all this, "if only Barack wasn't black" debate is that if only Hillary's last name weren't Clinton this race would be over long ago. The sole reason she is still in this is because her name is Clinton. Any other candidate who was this far down (whether you think it is far or not) would have been pushed out by now.
Look at Edwards, look at Richardson, look at Dodd, look at Biden. Only the Clintons are allowed to stay in this. The truth, beneath all the whining about how unfair the press has been to her, is that she has essentially been allowed to stay in this because she and her husband represent a brand name. A faded brand name that has lost its luster to the voters (as proven by the results) but one that nonetheless is barely hanging on. That was the point of this column and it is, sadly, true.
Comment: How did Hilary become Hilary Clinton? Hmmmmmmm
Hey I got it! She married William Jefferson Clinton.....
My that was easy
Comment: I am growing tired of sexist comments against Hillary. She really is STILL STANDING.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCG5Tp4ZwZI
Comment: After all the media bashing and pure hate directed tworads Hillary Clinton she is still standing. I am willing to bet that in 2009 people will look back with a deep sense of regret that they allow hate to overide reason and good judgment. For the truth is whether she wins or loses the Clintons will be just fine. But can you say the same for yourselves given that you would have voted for form over substance?
The poor gets poorer and the rich gets richer because the latter do not allow hate, anger, and malicious gossip to rule their decision making. For what is important is the effectiveness with which the person can discharge his/her duties as opposed to likability. Do you really imagine that the President will ever be your buddy?
Comment: It's no big deal...unless you locked into dogma and tradition. Whatever floats the boat is the standard in politics. Not any different than Obama saying could have, should have, would have after Rev. Wright retired. It's so easy to say the politically correct thing than doing the right thing. Just don't know how you could tacitly agree to the inciting rhetoric of the pulpit denouncing the country. It's politics as usual, say what is necessary to get elected. There is no real integrity in politics.
Comment: After reading "When Barry Became Barack", a rather long article on the formative years of Obama, I was ready to dive into "How Hillary Rodham became Hillary Clinton" expecting the same in-depth and insightful treatment of Hillary's formative years, BUT ...... I guess I expected too much!
Comment: A rose by any other name is still a rose. It doesn't matter what you call her, Hillary is still who she is, doing what she does, saying what she says, and generally being Hillary. Vote for her at your own peril!
Comment: Well, gosh, I really wondered why Hillary's changed what she was called so many times. I was curious if it had anything to do with why her campaign slogans also changed frequently. However, I wasn't ready to rant about any of it until I read the ridiculous comments here. Are there this many stupid people on these blogs or is it the same four writing on all the blogs? The ignorance displayed is depressing. It's not that you're for or against one or the other candidate. It's the illogical, ridiculous claims you make. They make no sense and make you look like an idiot. Think about what you write before you put it out there. Of course, you're certainly entitled to write what you like and to look like an idiot if you like. I'm learning not to read these comments ...
Comment: Welcome to the new young Democratic Party. Hatred, cruelty, condemnation of a woman for using her maiden name, and because her spouse had an affair, and because they don't like her pantssuits. If these bloggers are the Democrats of the future, then the old Democratic Party of the past certainly is gone.
Comment: I have never heard so much hate among our media toward Hillary Clinton. Obama to the media can do no wrong. I find him abusive to his wife and little girls listening to Rev. Wright preach hate toward American and blame America for all the problems in the world. Obama is a Muslim and I do not understand why we would want someone to be the Comander in Chief that have no real solid background of strong family. (I agree with Pat Buchanan!!! 40 years later 40 trillion dollars and they are victems!!!) We do not want to become a welfare country are a third world country. Vote Hillary!! If Hillary does not get nominee EVERYONE WILL VOTE MCCAIN IN TEXAS AND THROUGH-OUT AMERIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
annie C
Comment: I have never heard such hatred toward another person. I would never vote Obama I find him abusive to set 20 years in his church with his wife and little girls. I do not want my country learder to come this kind of teachings Beside what do we really know about him. I find his background very distrubing. He his a Muslim regardless what he says. Media can see no wrong in him, but what is right? We do not want to become a welfare country for the blacks (Pat Buchanan is right 40 years later and 40 trillion dollars and they feel like they are victems) give me a break. VOTE HILLARY CLINTON.
Comment: Hillary Clinton is the most dirty politician among democrats in recent history. Her negative campaign based on deceptions and lies should disgust any decent democrat, or voter in general, to vote for her for the nomination or during a general election.
Fortunately, even insiders in her campaign confirm that the chances for her to win the nomination are slim to none: see the articles
CLINTON'S CHANCES VIRTUALLY NIL...

STORY BEHIND THE STORY: THE CLINTON MYTH
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9149.html
So Hillary now understands that she will not win the nomination and she is playing for 2012 by making sure that the democrats will lose in 2008.
Let's hope that the superdelegates will put an end to the campaign of this kamikaze who believes in ressurection; after all, she is supposed to be Jesus or one of his associates if Bill Richardson is Judas.
Comment: I???m a Hill-raiser turned Obama supporter.
How can we trust someone who refuses to be transparent?
What loving parent would take their child into a hostile country?
Ron Brown???s plane that was shot at and shot down while on route to Bosnia; not Hillary Clinton!
What decent person would steal the life story of a deceased man and tell it as if it were there own experience?
How can we trust that Hillary will tell the truth at a time when we really need to her it?
Comment: I am with you. I was for Hillary BUT I too saw through the lies. Why would you take your child to a hostile place? She has lied about this too many times.
Comment: It's time to quit the crap and go find her hubby and go home....she is a liar, she is a cheat, and she would take her own daughter into a war zone under snipper fire LOL Clinton people wake up and smell the coffee....these people Bill and Hillary are pathologic and psychotic!
Please get off the train of lies because you are going to be held accountable to being associated with these Arkansas hoods!
Comment: EVen if you throw in Bill Clintons record with Hillary......it is still not as bad as Obama and Michelle.
However, I don't think you should consider the spouse. The spouse is not running for President.
Newsweek: Let's talk about Rezko, Farranhkan, Rev. Wright, Rev. Meeks, Bill Ayers, Black Liberation Movement, as well as Obama statement about Israel. Nothing concerning Hillary is as bad as Obama.
Hillary was in Bosnia and she was representing the U. S. Obama has never been sent to represent our Country to Bosnia. The only play Obama has gone outside of the U. S. is to see his kin folk in those countries. Wake up America. Save America from this left wing liberal that is Anti America.
Comment: Are you serious? And ??????? What a waste of time and space..
Comment: Hmmmm.....It's funny you say that in defending Hillary Rodham Clinton. Using your logic tephraim - can you not share the same sentiments in the same tone, in defending Barack for his pastor's actions? Or, are you going to contradict yourself and set a double standard on this issue? Judged for one's own's actions - not by the actions of someone you know....Hmmmmm
Comment: ???I did dodged bullets, at that place, Bosina.??? Hillary Clinton
???I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky.??? Bill Clinton
Should she now disown Bill Clinton, as his influence on her is evident. If Barack is influenced by his 20 year relationship with Rev. Wright surely Hillary is influence by her 30 plus year relationship with Bill. Hmmmm.
Comment: What's in a name? So why doesn't Obama use his middle name? How convenient!!
Comment: That is not common practice in this country. Do you use your middle name regularly, I don't.
Comment: Yes, I always I use my middle name. Which is Mendez by the way, I am very proud of my Hispanic hertiage.
Comment: Your erudite encapsulation of Hillary Rodham Clinton demonstrates the fine, unbiased journalism of Newsweek, a pillar of current events. Newsweek's priapism for Senator Barack surely will elevate itself in the pantheon of historical lore. Once again, an outstanding job here has highlighted the plight of women much to the dismay of People Magazine's readers who, if turned to the Dark Side, might enjoy this article.
Comment: Back in the day, Bill Clinton risked losing an election because his wife didn't bake cookies and kept her maiden name. Michelle Obama says: "for the first time I am proud of my country" and the country barely notices. Yet Hillary invariably finds much that is positive about this country whereas Michelle criticizes everthing endlessly. Actually so does Obama, they both act like America is scum and unless we hire them to straighten us out all will be lost. The Clinton's have never acted like that, they effected positive change by helping people feel good about themselves.
Comment: Why isn't anyone addressing the comments and opinions of Rev. James Manning who has publicly and proudly attached himself with the Clinton campaign? His views are the most racist and derrogatory than anything that Rev. Wright made. I am prouder of the KKK than this man and why hasn't Sen. Clinton been required to denounce him?
Comment: She can not be held responsible for his ignorance. One should be judged by their own actions, not the actions of those they know.
Comment: She got married like a normal person.
Comment: Newsweek wants to make sure everyone younger than 50 thinks using any surname not your husband's is a big sin, do not trust her. This proves sexism is the issue of this election. Instead of making progress in the 60's & 70's, Women's Movement has been forgotten & Newsweek is telling our daughters that they must not be individuals, they must conform. Hillary has always had to bear the brunt of medias' criticism for being her own person. You go girl, we are behind you all the way.
Comment: Why did Newsweek have to write this stupid story. They gave Obama a cover and wanted to prove something by saying something, anything about Hillary. As a Hillary supporter I could have done without it. Why is the press still insist that they are not biased. They were praising Obama last week for his candor how about some candor from Newsweek. Next cover. Why Newsweek is madly in love with Obama and want to have his babies.
Comment: Obama supporter Bill Richardson is not--to use weird James Carville's Easter metaphor--a "Judas" ... unless you share the cultish view that the Clintons are our Messiah.
However, there seem to be quite a few Barabbas--thieves that got away--peopling Hillary's campaign.
Remember the pardons for union-busting Marc Rich and the narcotics traffickers?
Remember the sleezy get-rich-quick schemes the Clintons themselves engaged in?
Remember the credible allegations of mistreatment by several of Bill's paramours?
Remember the theft of the dreams of an entire Democratic Party, which had to watch their leader--a serial lout--defend himself on national television for peccadillos not even acceptable for adolescents in high school?
I really don't care to see him featured on a cable television program about "Ex-Presidents Gone Wild."
Don't care to see him occupying the White House, which is maintained by the taxpayer.
Really don't care to go down that road when the country is facing so many problems in so many areas.
Move on, mates. Just move on.
Comment: Stupid remarks are of no use. Treating people crazy, when you don't understand things. Shame on you guys for you only think through your racial and sexism. You should stop viewing the two candidates with either with your racist or matcho eyes. Comments like these are not constructive at all and contribute to the division of Dems which will not help at all. If you do not have anything intelligible to bring up don't post useless comments. This article, though difficult to grasp the sense and motives, is worth being in the columns.
Comment: Instead of writing this piece of garbage and all the other article like it, why doesn't anyon at Newsweek have the guts to write an article about the sexism that is driving much of the ranting towards Hillary. Oh you all think you're so brave to talk about race. What a bunch of cowards. Sexism takes a MUCH bigger toll than race does in terms of lives ruined, deaths, etc. There are hundreds of hate crimes against women every day and you don't even bat an eye about them. Every 4 hours in this country a woman is murdered by her husband or boyfriend. Every 15 seconds a woman is beaten by her husband or boyfriend. Rapes account for more emergency room visits for women than car accidents and muggings combined. In Los Angeles 50% of all 911 calls are for domestic violence--that's right, HALF of all the calls. The number one cause of death for women in the work place is homocide. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. And that's just in this country. In other countries women are killed with impunity just for existing. So, why don't you get off your butt and do some REAL journalism, instead of this piece of nothing.
Comment: Right, I support your comments that is the reason why, instead of bringing up negative things we need to make intelligible comment in order to contribute to the improvement of what we read, see or hear. Negative comment will only continue to inflame the situation and none of the two will ever be president.
Comment: Shame on you two guys. If you don't have anything to say, just keep quite instead of adding to the racistic and sexist comments that tear off politics of the USA. Dems have the choice to make. Whoever gets nominated has the right to and it's not up to rapaces (racists and sexist) to bring any comment that is not constructive at all. Hillary or Obama, it's a matter of choice and let the people chose.
Comment: WHAT, exactly, is the point of this article? What, you couldn't find any material for your daily Hillary bashing so you had to come up with something to write? Because this "article" is basically only good for lining the bird cage. It's snide and meaningless. I am so disappointed in Newsweek these days. I subscribed for many years because the writing was thoughtful, articulate, and I learned things. Now, it's just become Obamaniac Central and so much of the writing is trite and I don't know anything more after reading most of the articles than I did before I read them. What happened to you--are you all smoking crack or what?
Comment: I really have to laugh at the Dems and the media. When the nomination process all started Hillary was the Dems' Darling. She would kick tail and become President. The media ran with it. Now...a guy that talks the talk pops up and almost everyone in the party and media are abandoning Hillary like rats off a sinking ship! The rats are scampering after the dream like lemmings over the cliff. Well....that's what it is. A dream. The Dems and the media should wake up. Stop dreaming. Obama could make a good TV newscaster and that's about the extent of his talents. In the political arena...Hillary should still be the Dems' Darling. If Obama WERE to become President (and that's a stretch) the rush over the cliff would be inevitable.
Comment: Sadly this country still struggles with the following issues: racism, sexism, homophobia, bias and so on and so forth....Not to mention: corruption, political unaccountability, assaults to the constitution....we should remember that one day, these present times will be viewed as "the bad old days."
Comment: You have a seven page article on how Barry Became Barack and a half-page article on how Hillary became Hillary Rodham Clinton. Could the bias be more apparent? The first article is written in glowing terms as usual (quoting mostly from Obama's own autobiography) while the latter is negative and sexist.

How Will Hillary's Bosnia "Whopper" Play in the Media?
By RJ Eskow
If you're Hillary Clinton and you've just been caught in a "whopper," the only thing to be grateful for is that it's Good Friday and people are distracted. How bad could this story be for her? When you tell the American public you faced gunfire, and it turns out all you really faced was a little girl with flowers - well, that's as bad as it gets. When you dramatically say you made a journey that was too dangerous for the President, only to have it revealed that he made the same trip two months earlier - and that your teenaged daughter was by your side - that only makes it worse.
If they wanted to, the networks could juxtapose video of Sen. Clinton's dramatic recitation of the battle with this clip of that sweet eight-year-old on the tarmac with a bouquet. The question is: Will they want to?
Just this week Sen. Clinton said that she landed in Bosnia under "sniper fire," adding: "There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base." Clinton used to tell Iowa audiences: ""We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady."
And her 16-year-old kid?
This latest deception is documented in detail in the Washington Post by a reporter who was there. The paper awards her statements "four Pinocchios," a rating they reserve for political misstatements they describe as "whoppers."
"Whopper" (Merriam-Webster): "An extravagant or monstrous lie." ...
Comment: Reading this brings me very close to tears. Is it really that offensive in America for a woman to keep her birth name -- even as a middle name -- when she gets married? How very hateful to women who simply don't want to dishonor their identity. This just breaks my heart. And what Hillary has had to endure from a mean-spirited press breaks it too.
Comment: Was there a point to this article, or did they just forget to print the second page?
Personally, I think she would do a lot better without him - he is just baggage that drags her down.
Comment: The coverage of Hillary Clinton's campaign is so poor it is almost criminal. The press should be ashamed for its Obama propaganda.
Comment: Amazing what people choose to nit-pick about. Just Hillary is fine with me, as would any of the others. She still is the same person. Apparently she makes a big impact because she is running against the press and Obama and lots of little kiddies on the blogs and she is still in there Atta, girl Hillary.
