Photojournalism has lost one of its giants. A member of the esteemed Magnum photo agency since 1966, the Welsh-born Griffiths was a canny observer of daily life, as is evident in the pictures he made on walks through countless cities. But he'll be remembered best for his work during the Vietnam War, culminating with his 1971 book, "Vietnam Inc.," which helped accelerate the West's disillusionment with the conflict. "Not since Goya," said Henri Cartier-Bresson, "has anyone portrayed war like Philip Jones Griffiths."
