He specifically said that since his daughters came from a well-to-do background, they should not be given preferential treatment. If you watch his race speech closely he already addressed this issue. I'm not entirely certain that he knows exactly what the remedy should be here, except that he believes that we need to stimulate opportunity for all people, not just blacks. I think that he would support an end to affirmative action, but maybe not in the same manner that this Connerly guy proposes. I think he believes that we need to create opportunity and stimulate the economy. Also he wants to provide education for everyone. From preschool to college graduation he has a vision for America's schools that don't leave people behind. I think that his health care plan is the only one with a ghost of a chance of passing. His plan is voluntary, his plan relies on a partnership between government and private industry. I'm excited about his plan, and believe that if it came down between Hillary or Obama, that people would vote against Hillary's plan simply because they don't like her. Republicans really hate her. I'm more hopeful that Obama can be the president that can get the Republicans to the negotiating table so that we can finally get health care in this country.

Just take some time and look at all of the things that you may overlook in your daily life that was invented or started by someone black. Life for us has been hard since day one. No preferential hiring practices for ex-felons EVER. I believe in helping people who have tried or are trying hard but don't have the opportunities of the college educated. Comment: He didn't go from Occidental to Harvard Law, he went from Occidental (undergrad) to Columbia (undergrad) then to Harvard Law. He did this the way most people (black and white) who transfer to better colleges do: They work hard.
He was in Occidental, because, as you rightly point out he probably did do more drugs and not work as hard as he should have. Don't think this was too uncommon in the 70s but whatever. When he got to Occidental he realized he better work hard, got his butt in motion, got great grades and transferred to Columbia. When there he studied political science, worked hard, and eventually made it into Harvard Law. When he couldn't find a job, he was smart enough to take a position as a community organizer. Whether this was calculated or not I don't know or care. Everyone calculates when they take a job. That's why they take it. They calculate how much money they can make, where it is, what the chances for promotion are, etc., etc., etc.
From there he used his intelligence, political acumen and hard work to move his way into the statehouse. Rather than sitting around he was smart enough to talk to the leader of the state sentate, head every committe he was offered while others sat around and eventually get to the U.S. Senate.
This is not affirmative action, it's intelligence, charisma, and political acumen the same tools every U.S. President, be it John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, or Bill Clinton, used to rise to the top. He's better than the other candidates at the things that get people elected: namely charisma, an interest in other people and bold ideas He happens to be black. Get over it.

I do hand him the praise of being smart and working hard, but I also think he was handed a lot of breaks that not everyone gets.
