How Diane Arbus Got Her Freak On

The late photographer discovered some of her most famous images in Hubert's Museum, a Times Square freak show. Now a new book shows how Arbus, her subjects and the collectors who came after all tie together in a tall but true American tale.

Comment: As one of the "characters" in the book (not in line for for a mental health award ... some knowing chuckles with that comment!), I'd like to thank you for your thoughtful and intelligent review. From the seemingly least significant figure all the way up to the main characters, the author manages to entwine the hearts and minds of these seemingly disparate figures. It's a Wonderland of a book.

Comment: As one of the "characters" in the book (not qualifying for a mental health award ... we shared some chuckles with that comment), I want to thank you for an intelligent and thoughtful review of this remarkable book. - Valerie.

Comment: Thank you for your generous review. I should point out that, although I am admittedly a Greil Marcus fan, it was Elisabeth Sussman of the Whitney Museum who brought the "old weird America" formulation to Langmuir's attention, and that it was precisely this formulation that helped Langmuir understand the nature of the Hubert's archive.
    Best wishes,

Comment: ...................There but for the grace of God go I.....is this the famous saying?......Unfortunatly many are not fortunate to be born without flaws, I think we must just accept this as bad luck and either help if we can or just move on while being as kind as possible.
