Comment: It's not Hillary's fault that the DNC's delegate-nominating process makes feudalism seem avant-garde.
Asking Hillary to drop out in order to prevent dissension within the party is like a football team asking the referee to run out the clock to preserve a 3-point lead...

Comment: A few weeks ago, I was fearful that all this bickering and negative campaigning was going to hurt the Democrats. But now I think it's helps them. They are airing all their dirty laundry, and when it's time to go against McCain, the Republicans won't have any ammunition.

    Go Obama!

Comment: None of the substantive Democrats of the last 50 years would be welcome in this Party. Not Truman, not JFK,not Johnson or Jackson or Sam Nunn. It has purged its sensible wing and so is left with grievance mongers and faculty club social democrats.Until such time as it re-connects with the real world the Democratic Party, which has elected two Presidents in 40 years will continue to deserve its secondary status

    • Posted By: popmanifesto @ 03/31/2008 15:31:23

Comment: It deserves its secondary status to the Republican party? Please - give me a break! The past 7 years have been filled with unprecedented corruption, secrecy, trampling of the Constitution, and runaway spending coupled with huge tax cuts that has nearly bankrupted us, not to mention a war that is costly, bungled, unjustified, and un-American. The Democratic party isn't perfect, but it's a whole LOT better than what we've endured under Republican rule.

  • Posted By: popmanifesto @ 03/31/2008 12:52:21 PM

Comment: Too often on TV I see Republicans being asked if the Dems are hurting themselves with a prolonged campaign, and of course their answer is predictable. And it seems they've searched high and low to find Democrats who agree. The news media and their partisan pundits have done a wonderful job of setting in stone the idea that the Democrats are wounding themselves, perhaps fatally. And of course every statement that passes though the lips of Clinton and Obama (or her husband and his pastor) that could even conceivably be taken in the wrong way is blown out of all proportion and the same partisan pundits are invited to talk about how it is damaging to the candidates. Meanwhile, McCain gets a free pass and yes, those same partisan pundits are brought on to pooh pooh the idea that his "gaffe" on Iraq/Al Queda, for example, was anything but a slip of the tongue - despite his repeated contentions of the connection. Since these things are repeated so often, and since our national news media live in such a bubble, they quickly become the "conventional wisdom." Problem is, nobody's asking US what WE think.

I'm a Democrat and I have no problem with this campaign being as close as it is - and neither do millions of others in "flyover" country. I've been waiting all my life to see a campaign that isn't over by New Hampshire or South Carolina, where all of us can have our voices heard about who we want to be our candidate. But the news media can't seem to handle it, so they go into overdrive to create a storyline that there's something desperately wrong with this scenario. No, it's called democracy!

We're still 8 months from the presidential election and reporters, talking heads, and pundits are quoting polls that they know damned well are going to change drastically between now and then. Enough of the yapping over minutae. Enough of spending a sold WEEK pouring over the sermons of Obama's pastor and crying racism over everything that comes out of the Clinton camp. We've got very serious issues to deal with in this country and our national news media is acting like the National Enquirer and playing "gotcha" while Rome burns.

Eleanor, please take a respite from this meaningless handwringing and get back to real issues.

Comment: I have heard Clinton supporters say that they will vote for McCain if Hillary loses the nomination. To them I say:if you call yourself a Democrat who will choose to vote for McCain , then you are not a real Democrat. The substance of McCain's platform includes keeping America in a state of military confrontation forever. We will continue to waste money and the lives of our brave soldiers in an endless loop of violence. This philosophy will fuel more hatred and more animosity towards us. I have really bad news for you: there is NO WAY to declare victory against Al Qaeda, even if we capture Bin Laden. They will never wave a white flag to America. They want to die, and they will always be able to recruit more members as long as we are imposing aggression on their land. McCain would appoint 2 conservatives to the supreme court. That would take the conservative count to 7-2; we will continue to be adjudicated back into the stone ages. Is this the "substance" you're looking for as a Democrat? Do you really want to reward George Bush with a third term? I'm an Obama supporter, partly for his personality, but mostly for his purpose. McCain's platform is entirely unacceptable to any sane Democrat. As a true Democrat and Obama Supporter, I would gladly vote for Hillary Clinton if it was the only way of kicking the Republicans out of the White House. That's how strongly I feel about the deplorable predicament the Republicans have created.

Comment: I am a loyal Hillary supporter and an Independent. Under no circumstances will I vote for Obama if he is the nominee. I don't trust him..... He's a liar and an imposter. I only hope that when the Republicans reveal truth about him, then the American public should crucify the press (including your publication) for giving him the nomination.

    Comment: The Logic doesn't work...

I have been doing my best to follow the logic behind the repeated references to why Senator Obama should be held responsible for the actions of Reverend Wright.

I've asked the same repeated question, why didn't he leave the Church?

...until a Brit asked me, "Should the rest of the World hold Americans responsible for the actions of their President????

...he continued, "If the American people didn't agree with what their President has said or done, why didn't they leave?"

...he continued still, "Doesn???t this seem like some of the twisted logic of the terrorists who seek to harm Americans?"

If you're for Senator McCain, Senator Obama, or Senator Clinton, it is not a requirement that you have a logical reason for doing so.

However, in the seemingly desperate attempts to undermine Senator Obama's candidacy, one should be mindful of the twisted logic it may support.

...or you may come across as not being "the brightest tool in the shed!"

Comment: McCain WILL NOT MENTION REV. WRIGHT FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS.

    1. He was about to rip Hannity to shreds for bringing it up. Huckabee-McCain supporter and friend said" I understand Wright's pain because I am from the south and witnessed the level of bigotry" ........

    2. His pastor is Rev. Parsley in Ohio. I am in Ohio-Parsely is a known "issue" in Ohio. MSNBC and the Times are holding the story of him for just the right time and McCain's campaign knows this and that's why he doesn't say anything now about Wright-a clip of Parsley-"White America is responsile for 1000 black baby deaths a year." That is from THIS YEAR. LIGHTS IZZOUT.

Comment: Even if Obama were to lose to McCain this fall, he will still be president someday because he will be able to bank on the gratitude of millions of conservatives for having stopped Hillary. All he will have to do will be hang in there and move to the center a bit, and he will.

Comment: "Obama has more to lose from prolonged skirmishing; his campaign is premised on a promise to end partisan bickering. " Oh really? I thought he was in it to win. Anyway, there are ways to demolish her and there are other ways. His recent invitation to Hillary to stay in the race as long as she wants was a stroke of genius. Must have enraged her more than being reminded about any of her ridiculous lies. I won't vote for him, but I am grateful to him.

Comment: I am very unimpressed with Hillary. She had the fame, name, cash, experience.......ec. But her and her hubby let a fluke Iowaw win completely throw them off their respective gameplan. Also-IF ANYONE REALLY THINKS THAT MCCAIN HAS A CHANCE AGAINST OBAMA YOU ARE OFF YOUR ROCKER.

    1. Do you know how the debate will look with a 70+, volatile temper ex-pow prone for verbal gaffes against a smooth confident orator such as Obama? It might get comedic

    2. McCain doesn;t even have conservative base. Obama's base is strong as a monster-college kids, college degreed, women(when Hillary drops out), and minorities. Combine that with a 4 billion a week war , mortgage industry and the overall economy? I will be very surprised if McCain doesn't get slaughtered. The head to head polls that Obama has back crept into being-DON'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT TURNOUT.

    3. Obama only has to give one of those speeaches a week before electionday and -LIGHTS OUT

    3.

Comment: You assume that Obama will get all of Hillary's supporters, 28% of them said they wouldn't vote for Obama. How are you doing to win the Election that way?
Did you watch the debates? Obama sucks in debates. Obama is an orator only with a prepared speech. When he is on his own, he says a lot of "Hillary said it best." or "I agree with her on this." Or my favorite is the "Typical White Person" on the radio.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 03/30/2008 13:01:53

      Comment: Second.
Hillary's problem is that her campaign people didn't prepare for the long run. They assumed the nom. was hers in Feb. One has to earn it. She has paid these people millions and in my humble opinion, they are not worth it.. I'd want my money back.

Comment: Dems' squabbling won't kill their chances this fall. Dems themselves will kill their chances this fall. Hillary never really had a prayer, as 100% of the country knows her and 50% despise her. Obama looked promising for a moment, but now that his halo has fallen off and we look past the glow and at the candidate and his record, we see George McGovern with a baritone. How does someone become a great"post-partisan uniter" when he starts out, in both record and policy proposals, somewhere just to the left of Kucinich? He has a great future - as a "post-racial" healer and preacher. Perhaps he could begin with his own church - the one he had a chance to influence for 20 years, and failed miserably.

Comment: Michelle Obama commited no crime with her remarks. She said nothing any different that what you Democrats have been saying about Pres. Bush for the last three years by villifying him and placing the blame on him for everything that is wrong in the country and of course to you Democrats, he's solely to blame for the war in Iraq. We all know Hillary Clinton along with everyone else who voted 'Yay' to go to war. When you gang up on Bush and blame him and only him, for the war, is that being patriotic? In my book, no.

Comment: Then there is Michelle Obama, a very angry woman who expresses anti-American sentiments that, "life in America is not good, we're a country that is just down right mean . . . We're a country that is guided by fear, We're a nation of cynics, sloths and complacents." Mrs. Obama comes from a black blue-collar family, attended both Princeton and Harvard, is now making a six-figure income and living in a $1.6 million home. This is the couple we ought to support in the White House! I don't think so.

Comment: There are just eight months left until the next president of the United States is elected. This is the most important election in a generation. The problems that confront our nation are unprecedented: Iraq, Afghanistan, global warning, Katrina victims, mortgage debacle, Roe vs. Wade, healthcare, poverty. Hillary Clinton has been trying her best to lay out her vision for America, yet she is ripped to pieces by vitriolic media pundits. On the other hand, little has been said about Obama's disingenuous claims about his role in key legislation during his few years in the Senate, or how he attended Pastor Wright's services and never heard any of the sermons that were posted on You-tube! However, the media is going to hammer, and hammer at Senator Hillary Clinton - BECAUSE - IF (BIG, BIG IF) Obama manages to pull this coup off, the media have a very, very big story!

Comment: Rezko received a $3.5 million loan from London-based IRAQI billionaire Nadhmi Auchi -- a loan that was later forgiven in exchange for shares in a prime slice of Chicago real estate. Rezko gave $700,000 of the money to his wife and used the rest to pay legal bills and funnel cash to various supporters."

These Funds from Auchi's loan helped finance a complex series of transactions between Rezko and Democratic Presidential candidate Illinois Senator Barack Obama involving the 2005 purchase of Obama's Chicago mansion and Rezko's purchase of an adjoining landlocked parcel.

Rezko claims he paid ???full market price??? and Obama apparently received a ???discount??? of several hundred thousand dollars for his parcel. Rezko then improved his parcel to benefit Obama.

Instead of handing cash to Obama, Rezko handed Obama a preferential price for property. This is the same form of ???honest graft??? and preferential treatment that sent former Illinois Governor Otto Kerner to jail over 30 years ago, see United States v. Isaacs, 493 F.2d 1124 (7th Cir. 1974).

The Chicago Sun-Times recently reported that Mr. Rezko, around the same general period he was wheeling with Obama, also provided a preferential price for a property purchase by U. S. Representative Luis Gutierrez.

Instead of transferring cash to buy influence, Rezko was engaging in structured property transactions and preferential treatment of public officials to confer significant financial benefits on them, far above the legal limits of any legitimate political contribution permitted by federal law.

Thanks to the release of Barack Obama's income tax records, we are finally able to get some necessary perspective on the big favor Tony Rezko did for the Obamas in buying what has been termed in the press "the adjacent, undeveloped lot". It turns out this is a seriously misleading description.

Rather than merely purchasing a separate lot, Rezko appears to have purchased the yard of the Obama manse, and allowed them to live in the house+yard property, amounting to a gift (or loan, if you will) of considerable value.

Mr. Tony Rezko who owns a slum landlord business in inner city Chicago is under indictment in Illinois for seeking to extort money from potential state vendors.

The feds allege that Mr. Rezko was able to steer state contracts and policy decisions, such as authorization to build hospitals in specific locations, because he was so close to Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (for whom he was a top fundraiser) and because he was willing to share the graft with his cronies

Comment: I am a Obama supporter and will be voting for him-PERIOD. With that said-all politicians lie and or embellish. Anyne who supports this present administration who LIED us into an invasion of a country on 4 false rationales cannot say a word and has no standing. 4004 deaths and 4 billion dollars a week. Tha's alot larger of a deal than Hillary's Bosnia tale. On to my main man Obama.

To bring up Rev. Wright on Obama continually borders on a level of stupidity most people should not have. Mike Huckabee(I understand his anger and witnessed to why) and Hillary's on pastor(Whites can learn from Wright and he shouldn't be reduced to sound bites) says this. Rhetoric in my church has gotten more aggressive through the years with the OJ verdict, King verdict, Diallo and the anger at the Bush administration has caused in 99.999% of black church PASTORS to occasianally go off. Other words-I doubt that Wright preached at that level for 20 years for an hour and a half every Sunday for 20 years. He would have had a heart attack by year 3 and that's why Fox "news" had to splice 2 sound bites together from 4 years apart. Case in point -Only a devoted man of Christ and a Patriot that happens to be half black could ONLY STOMP FOR, HELP GET RELECTED, GIVE MONEY TO A CAMPAIGN OF A EX-KU KLUX KLANSMAN THAT IS SEN.BYRD. I have 0 belief in Islam and I couldn't have done that. Notice that when they show the inside of the church they never scanned the middle?-IT HAS A LARGE WHITE CONGREGATION. I love my pastor and he's been with my family through thick and thin but to judge me on 2 of his most radical moments in a heated sermon borders on RETARDATION. End of Story.

Comment: Many and I mean many Hillary supporters blogging all over the internet have made it plain that they plan to try and do a donor letter to Speaker Pelosi kind of extortion on the democratic party all the way to and through a walk out at the convention if they do not get what they want.
Credentials fights. The whole nine yards.
You may well be correct in your statement that many of these folks will support down ticket democrats.
What amazes me is that so many women would throw away the gains of two generations with respect to civil rights & health rights for women out of having their nose bent?
Completely amazing that so many that fought so hard would throw it all away and vote in a president, either by their direct support or through their abstention, who would add just as quickly as possible to the Roberts, Alito, Thomas & Scellia chorus that is singing refrains of; "Toss them a hangar".
      Amazing.
Perhaps you can help me out here. Is loosing this nomination fight worth all that?

Comment: Obama ought to withdraw from this campaign because his behaviors are destroying the Democratic Party and all chances for a Democratic win. He went on vacation thinking he had his nomination all wrapped up with his refusal to collaborate on a solution for the Michigan and Florida voters. Obama's claim that the votes be equally distributed between him and Hillary Clinton was preposterous! Obama will prove to be the downfall of the Democratic Party because the choice of McCain will upset all the visions of glory that run through the Democratic Party faithful. Americans will not elect Barak Hussein Obama to be the President of the United States. On the other hand, the Democratic Party will lose their core membership who watched in horror when Pastor Wright shouted his white racist sermons and accused the American government of inventing Aids to kill African Americans! The anti-American sentiments of Michelle Obama who went to Princeton and Harvard, is making a six-figure income and living in a 1.6 million home, the very poor judgment of Obama, and the hostile environment of vicious attacks against the Clintons by Axelrod and Obama will not be forgotten. Obama ought to withdraw from this campaign because he is the one destroying all chances for a Democratic win.

This is very important to our democratic process and we need to make a statement now to assure that the process is one of the people and for the people, and not one of the Party heads. That would be an awful precedent for us to set.

This is very important to our democratic process and we need to make a statement now to assure that the process is one of the people and for the people, and not one of the Party heads. That would be an awful precedent for us to set.

Please sign the petition today. Thanks!

Comment: What kind of leader will Obama be? Two things to remember: One, Obama does not want a re-vote in Florida and Michigan, preventing the people to vote for their leader. What kind of country that does not want a democratic election? Two, Obama wants Hillary to drop out. Russia's Putin made strong presidential opponents dropped out during their last election. Answer. Obama leadership will be DICTATORIAL.

      Comment: Silly!
Obama wants a vote everywhere. So long as the process complies with the rules he signed on to.
It would be nice if Hillary Clinton actually could believe in rules and, gasp, telling the American public the truth.
      Hillary Clinton. Combat veteran!
The only first lady ever to subject her teen age daughter to sniper fire and combat voluntarily.
Hillary Clinton. Tell any lie, defraud any donor, like Peter Paul compare your adversary to dubya and Ken Starr and his supporters to Judas on good Friday.
      Ya.
Just the kind of leader most American's do not want.

Comment: I guess you don't know your candidates history do you? He stated so many times that the votes in Florida and Michigan should be counted. But now, he does not want them counted because he would be behind in the delegates. As for lies, well let me see, there is Rezco, Rev. Wright, bill he claimed he authored but did not. Do you want me to go on?

Comment: we all know if this were reversed, and Obama was behind like Hillary is, there would not be even a question mark about whether or not he will able to win. Everyday, Hillary comes out with a different plan to get herself elected; its just sad that the blind HRC loyalists refuse to admit this to themselves. I for one, will not vote for HRC if she steals this election from Obama (and that is the only way she will get the nomination). She is tearing apart the Democratic party for her own political gain; she could care less about the party. as for the "you are an idiot" comment, umm, you obviously dont have your facts straight. Hillary and Bill had nothing to with the economic expansion at the time; that was an IT created boom. and secondly, remember that was when the Democrats lost their majority in the House and Senate. Al Gore blames Bill on his not winning the presidency on Bill's extramarital excursions...and it is fact that a 100,000 republicans voted for hillary in texas thanks to mr limbaugh...just ask yourself why? because they want her to be president? no...they know she will be easily defeated in the fall and that is a fact....people out there either love or hate hillary, and this 31 year old Democratic female (non African American) now also shares her enmity of Hillaary after seeing her campaign as nastily as she has.

Comment: Perhaps you might want to see if there is any truths in anything that Obama has stated before you go talking about HIllary. He has caught in some many lies now it is ridiculous. And then of course there is Michelle who is really proud of her country for the first time in her life (because her husband is running for President)!

          Little white lies?
          1. Obama lied about his experience. Go google Emil Jones and Obama and see how Emil Jones Bill-jacked legislation in the Ill Senate so that Obama can get all the credit.
          2. How about Obama lying when he said first that he didn't hear anything racial from Wright, then changed his story that he wasn't there personally to hear anything, then said on the View that if Wright hasn't "Stepped down" Obama would have left. You bash Hillary all the time for that kind of double talking, why nothing bad to say about the Great Obama?
          3. How about how Obama has repeatedly lied about how much money he recieved from Tony Rezko? First is was a few thousand dollars so he gave that sum to charity,. then his house deal, now he admits to recieving more cash from Rezko than before? What will he admit to next?

Comment: YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT:-)

If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

    You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

Comment: Here are some of the highlights of the Clinton's foreign policy and its achievements. Drafted before we knew of Hillary's "courage under sniper fire in Bosnia lie".
      1. American service members naked dead bodies being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu after team Clinton denied them the equipment & support they needed to accomplish their mission.
Soon after the remaining forces were withdrawn in what has become known as our first lost battle in the war against al-Qaeda and Islamic extremism.
      2. Rwanda is anything but genocide.
What may be the supreme example of the worthlessness of human life when forced to compete in the semantic driven world of team Clinton.
      3. We respect international law.
That is except when we bomb the embassy of a nation with the veto power at the United Nations Security Council.
      4. That long term deployments of American armed forces to places like Haiti are in our strategic national interests.
      5. Spending time before Monica on the Israeli Palestinian peace process was a waste of time.
      6. Reducing the military by 40% and calling it a peace dividend was in the strategic national interests of America.
      7. Changing the role of the Guard & Reserve from a strategic reserve to an operational reserve because it is more cost effective.
The results of # 6 & 7 are out there or the entire world to see.
      8. That the best way to fight Islamic Extremism was to ignore it.
Hence the reason two of our embassies were bombed in Africa post Somalia and Islamic extremism was able to rage unchecked throughout the 1990's. A few cruise missiles excepted.
      9. The unabashed belief that failure to support "W"'s war in Iraq would leave you open to charges that you were soft on national security and nobody is gonna call Hillary soft on anything.
Hence the reason so many in America lay the deaths and maiming of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's right at the Clinton's feet.
If they had courage and conviction of belief they would have stood on principal and damn the torpedoes.
Unfortunately for America's service members and their loved ones the Clinton's could not be bothered with trivialities like reading the intelligence reports or taking a principled stand that would stand up to the test of time.
This is the Clinton's foreign policy in a nut shell.
It does not stand up to the test of time.

Comment: YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT - if you think BILL Clinton is running for president. He isn't.

If I'm a doctor's wife, does that mean I can do surgery?
If I'm a lawyer's husband, does that mean I can defend you in court?

The fact that he was president - and not a particularly good one - doesn't mean being his wife translates into experience at anything except being First Lady.

Your examination of BILL Clinton's record is inaccurate at best, and downright ficitonal at worst, but HE ISN'T RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.

      She is.

Look at HER record - as senator, not First Lady, because First Lady doesn't count - and you will see that she doesn't have any more or less experience than Obama. Her record as a law partner is questionable.

Personally, I don't think any senator - and that includes McCain - has enough experience to run for the highest executive branch office, I think only vice presidents or governors do, but senators is what we're stuck with.

But please - stop claiming Hilary is a good candidate because of what you think her husband did. First of all, he didn't do much, and second of all, she won't, either. HER record shows that.

Comment: Oh, and last but not least I have read her records and she has done a great job and stood up for the working class people. Whereas Mr. Obama has done nothing but - Present no vote on most things except on the ones where he has voted almost exclusively with everything that Republicans have tried to pass.

Comment: I agree with many of the other comments that the Clintons' could care less about the Democratic party. They want Hillary to win at all costs. If they destroy the party or another Democratic candidate in the process so be it. I am one of those voters who would vote for Obama but never vote for Hillary. The notion that the Clintons' have helped build the Democratic party, or will help reunite it after this " Hillary or else" campaign is nonsense. They have done more damage the Democrats in the past and during this present campaign than any other political couple. When Bill dropped his pants in the White House, he dropped the Democratic party into a hole it has taken eight years to climb out of. Now, just in time, he is back with Hill in tow to start digging another hole. To say the Clintons' are divisive is far to kind; toxic is more accurate. The sad truth is that they would rather see McCain elected than Obama, and will cotinue to attack him with that result in mind.

Comment: Operation Chaos needs little help from Rush Limbaugh at this point to turn into Operation Conflagration. The likes of hate mongering sociopaths like Limbaugh to inject more divisiveness into the Democratic party, are being allowed to happen by the weak leadership of the Dems. Had Hillary not run for president and another candidate took her place, for better or worse, Bill Clinton would have been the "wise party elder" that would have brought the Dems together. Bill is partisian in favor of his wife and the Dems are left with only Howard Dean to retore order to the chaos. The fact that the Clinton's care little about party unity is obvios. Operation chaos helps them. It is clear now that the only way Hillary wins is to forsake the Democratic party for her own gain. By making Obama "unelectable" in the fall, Hillary wins by default. She defaults the election to McCain in 08, no matter who the Democratic candidate is. She runs in 20012, against a one term president in McCAIN. She wins no matter what. This is sad. Hillary speaks of the sin of disinfranchising Florida and Michigan voter? How about all the young voters who trusted in a democracy. The Clintons do not win in a true democratic majority. The Clintons win on voter suppression and pluralities. Look at the two elections Biull won. He won with 44% of the polpular vote in 92 and 46% in 96. This was all with the help of the neophyte, Ross Perot running as well.. The Clintons sit back and the American people just give them what they want. Only in America!

But there are some people who are afraid to see a sudden twist of event or a change in the ending that they want to stop the movie or the play. Kids are scared of horror movie.

Comment: "A church that can be CHARICATURED as out of the mainstream"? Eleanor have you lost your mind? Do you really think that it has to be CHARACATURED in order for it to be a millstone around Obama's neck? Do you doubt for an instant that the Repub 527's have all of the church's web content (much of which has been pulled recently), plus EVERY DVD that Jeremiah Wright ever offered for sale. They don't need to "characturize", all they need to do is create 100 different commercials consisting of nothing but the church, Rev Wright, and Obama's own statements about his membership and support, and that will be more than enough to render him unelectable. These groups have their cannons fully loaded, and are just sitting back, drinking a few beers, and waiting for the word as to when to light the fuse. September sounds about right.

Comment: Very perceptive article, Elanor. As a hitherto Hilary supporter, I have also now come around to the realization that preserving the democratic party is supremely more important than having Hilary run for an election she will never win against McCain.

Not after that elaborate and well choreographed Bosnia sniper fiction. It is extremely hard to swallow that I can point my children to somebody as my president, who has such a lie to her credit, repeated over and over, implying other witnesses were liars, until some people put together a video clip of the episode. What would Hilary tell Chelsea?

On the other hand, when I saw those Rev. Wright???s clips, I swore NEVER to vote for Obama. He could have ducked and groveled with apologies and waited to Fox News to play those clips until people are fatigued by it. What did he do? He decided to confront America with a groundbreaking narrative of race.

I don???t know any other politician who would have tried to address race in that way. Before be gave that speech, he must have known it was a massive gamble, but I guess he decided to put his presidential aspiration on the line. He damned the consequences. This convinced me he had character, and the speech itself showcased how incredibly perceptive he is. I was, however, still firmly on Hilary???s corner, but I had been persuaded I would vote for him if Hilary did not make it.

What did Hilary do? Incredibly, she managed to turn this one against her. If she and Mark Penn hadn???t cobbled that Bosnia tale and left Obama to his own Rev. Wright???s devices, Hilary would have likely gotten the nomination. Desperate for a way to deflect the Bosnia fiction, she decided to say something that was calculated to make whites not vote for a black.

This should never be allowed in any decent organization or society, certainly not the Democratic Party, quite apart from the fact that no demographic group ever has been as loyal to the party than blacks; no other group votes 70-90 percent Democrat, and they have been voting for white people 98 percent of the time. Without their support, I doubt that there would have been a Democratic president in the last 50 years or so.

It is morally reprehensible than any Democrat, not least the Clintons, who have benefitted from and helped black people. If this is the kind of thing left for the Clintons to do, it is time for them to step aside.

Let us face it: Hilary is damaged goods from this point on. Sad but true.

Comment: I want a female President too. Many women share this desire, but in attaining it let's remember that we have to be careful in our selection of female candidates. Here's a lesson from history: Geraldine Ferraro's cheating on her taxes KILLED women's political chances at the Presidency until now, 25 years later.

And oh, yeah, Hillary hasn't released her tax returns yet.

Are you old enough to recall what happened to Ferraro's candidacy after she released her tax returns? She got flushed down the toilet, and with her went the dreams of millions of American women.

I don't want to give away the next 25 years to Hillary Clinton's mistakes.

Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll still be alive in 25 years, when Obama's daughter will run for President.

    • Posted By: redmanrt @ 03/30/2008 16:29:23

Comment: On taxes: Hillary forgot to report her $100,000 windfall on a $1000 investment in cattle futures to the IRS. It became public after the statute of limitations had passed. That alone disqualifies her and makes anything Ferraro did seem minor. The humorous part is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. I would happily vote for a woman candidate if she were really tough like Thatcher and not a weak thug like Hillary.

I'm an Independent who leans Dem but, while I won't vote for Grandpa McCain it's becoming close to impossible to vote for Obama (as much as I might want to). All the math says that Hillary can't win and yet it's just something she and Bill can't seem to face. She's soooooo close. It must feel awful (seriously). But, we know the Clintons won't do the right thing and withdraw and throw their support behind Obama because, after all this is all about them and it has been for the last 4 years. But, my God this is turning out to be a colossal mess!

Comment: When you have a woman running for the Presidency and a black man ahead in the race for the nomination you can't help but have a race and gender race. Either it was going to be Hillary claiming Obama is ahead in the race because he's a black man, or Obama claiming Hillary is getting a pass because she's a woman. Someone is going to have to bail out for the good of the party. It's usually the one losing. Being that it's Hillary and the Clinton's do look at the Presidency as an entitlement, there's no way Hillary is going to throw in the towel unless she gets a visit from the Democrat leadership. This is where the Democrat leadership rolls up their sleeves and confronts the one losing and makes a leadership decision. Why? The sooner the better for the party. It's time to move on and start preparing for McCain. Any further delays only gives court jesters like Rush and his Operation Chaos more time to convince Democrat voters his Operation Chaos is working. The time to act is now. Not next week, next month, Now.

We all know that women are very passionate when there is something they believe in and I believe the female voters have a LOT to do with the voice and vigor in this election. Does McCain have that much support from women? I don't think so. Maybe things will settle down between the conventions in August and the general in November. They will settle down enough that Dems will have to decide if the want the not quite good enough DEM vs Bush's Iraq man. Of course many DEM voters may not defect to McCain, but simply show their voice by staying home. I know I might.

I would love to support Barack Obama and actually because he seems qualified and he IS Black. But he is a liar. He did not leave his hate-filled church and continues to double talk about it. Hillary and McCain are also proven liars. So let's look at Hillary and Barack on the issues that matter to me--a liberal democrat. They have exactly the same positions. So then what makes the difference? Hillary Clinton is married to the best president of the last fifty years. Like it or not feminists--that is a reality and that's the real edge. And you get two great leaders for the price of one just as we did when Bill was President. (Remember--the bumper stickers in the 90s? "Impeach Clinton and Her Husband Too.") The tragedy is that black people who once called Bill Clinton "the first black president" have turned on the Clintons and co-opted all the right wing hatred toward the Clintons because they want a Black man to win. Too bad. That is racism too.

I think he uses certain things to his advantage. HE IS VERY LIBERAL. Has anyone viewed his views on same sex couples and do you remember his comment about sex ed for 6 year olds is fine? I think Hillary and Obama are VERY different in the Health plan too. Obama does walk a fine line in the TRUTH. He claims he didn't vote for the iraq war...a top selling point to his supporters. OK, does he mention he wasn't even in the Senate when the vote was taken? ALSO, he keeps stating that Rev Wright has retired. Look it up online, the last sermon was in FEBRUARY like last month! I don't think he's even collected his first retirement check!

Comment: Single party politics. It does not matter who wins, Mcain, Clinton, or Obama. They are all the same. American militarism will continue. Welfare for the wealthy will continue. Corporate control of government will continue. The US will continue down its path of fascism.

The only differences between these "candidates" is abortion and gay rights. Both are non issues created to keep working people divided and distracted while the super rich rob them blind. Just this week the federal reserve engineered a deal whereby JP Morgan buys Bear Stearns at fire sale prices with US taxpayers picking up all the risk (hundreds of billions of your tax dollars). So courtesy of the fed Morgan gets billions of good collateral at low cost and no risk. Oh, and did you know that Morgan is one of the principle owners of the Fed? Probably not, and you will not here the candidates talk about it.

Only two candidates ran that could have saved America, Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. They never had a chance, the corporate media ,made sure. Now we have the three stooges. If you think one of them will make a difference, you are a bigger stooge than they are.

Comment: Please tell me you are kidding, right? Dennis Kucinich was a disaster as Mayor of Cleveland, he would be an even bigger disaster in the White House.

Comment: Eleonore Clift's been afflicted with OBAMYOPIA! How else can one not arrive at this diagnosis after reading her nonsensical opionion piece. I would assume she wants Obama to be annointed at this stage without first waiting to test the Democratic will of those unheard of voters? Typical Obamyopia! Make way, the Miessiah has entered the Kingdom! Methinks you've been listening to too many Uncle Jeremiah Sermons. No, it's not the SISTERHOOD, Eleonore, that has allowed two young impressionable little girls to witness the wild pelvic gyrations on the Pulpit (simulating a sex act) of Obama's Spiritual Mentor, while he's screaming:

"Bill Clinton loves us like he did Monica....he's riding us High, like he did Monica!..."--while being pushed on the back by an enthusiastic congregant! Now that's Sunday School Catechism one wants to stay away from, don't you think, sister?

Eleanor, where was Obama's Parental Judgment, never mind "presidential"? Why did Obama not remove his kids from such toxic, profane environment and start a "conversation" with his mentor 20 years ago, instead of giving a lofty, politically-expedient Speech to hypnotize a Nation? He could have saved quite a few souls in his own Congregation from generationally passed on hatred and challenge his "uncle'"s "incendiary comments" a long time ago!

Well, you know what I think your next column should do? Persuade your "Precious Obama" [as Lou Dobbs had called him back in January] that atonement could come in the form of a small donation for an X-RATED WARNING SIGN to be posted by a children's advocacy official--right outside his "Church of Hate". Before he "transcends" the need to do even this much for children...Nice to know you advocate "Porn on the Pulpit" as suitable Sunday School Catechism! See you in Church!

Comment: Well now to Obama's credit he is throwing Rev. Wright under the bus now too.

"Had the reverend not retired and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying there at the church," Obama said.

You criticize Clinton for her missteps but this takes the cake. Why is he already contradicting himself not two weeks after he gave that speech? Why did he stay for 20 years but only now feel uncomfortable?
I can never vote for this man.

Comment: Well said. Eleanor has long been a left-wing extremist, but this article is over the edge. How on earth anyone can watch the vidoes of Rev. Wack-job and not want to hurl is beyond me. And you bring up an excellent point; Obama took his young children to these hate-spewing sessions! His judgement simply must be called into question. The left-wingers who run the Democrat Party will look past this, but the larger population in the general election will not. Obama is toast, but don't expect the Obamabots to realize it until it is too late.
