I've just made copies of this article to give to my friends. The line about there being "only one reason to go to war and that is for a cause so great that it justifies asking people to sacrifice their children" just stayed with me. I've repeated it already to several people. As a mother of 6, four daughters and two sons 18, and 28 years old, everything you said is true.

Dear NY gal, Is killing human beings good, or bad? If compassionate mothers do it, then it must be good. Then Hitler's motive is another issue; there was nothing wrong with what he did. If, on the other hand, killing others is bad - as our society has traditionally upheld - then mothers would not do it to their children. As a matter of fact, there would be nothing more at odds with the job of a mother taking care of her children, than those mothers killing their children.
